The Caymans offer Mitt Romney's money a lovely view.
In some ways, Mitt Romney is a walking, talking self-refutation of his own economic agenda. The Republican presidential candidate believes if Washington uses tax policy to put more money in the hands of the very wealthy, those "job creators" will pump those gains right back into the Americans economy, benefiting everyone else as the capital trickles down.
Romney, meanwhile, is extremely wealthy, has benefited greatly from tax breaks, and sent much of his money overseas. It would appear Romney's wallet has debunked Romney's economic agenda.
Rhetoric notwithstanding, questions about the candidate's offshore investments aren't going away.
Mr. Romney, responding to opponents' barbs about his use of overseas tax havens, has offered a narrow defense [of his offshore holdings], saying only that the investments, many made through the private equity firm he founded, Bain Capital, have yielded him "not one dollar of reduction in taxes."
A review of thousands of pages of financial documents and interviews with tax lawyers found that in some cases, the offshore arrangements enabled his individual retirement account to avoid taxes on its investments and may well have reduced Mr. Romney's personal income tax bills. But perhaps a more significant impact of Mr. Romney's offshore investments has been on the profit side of the ledger -- in the way Bain's tax-avoidance strategies have enhanced his income.
When Romney released his 2011 tax returns, the materials came with a campaign-written FAQ that insisted he wasn't evading or reducing his tax burden by stashing his cash in the Caymans. That wasn't quite true. In reality, Romney put his money into funds that in turn evaded taxes through Cayman accounts.
The New York Times report moves the ball forward by focusing on a related angle: Romney reduced his tax burden by using Bain Capital offshore investment strategies. As Laura Clawson explained, "In other words, Bain avoided the taxes through complicated offshore investment strategies, increasing Romney's profits. Then, Romney's own tax bills on those tax avoidance-inflated profits were, most likely, further reduced by the location of his investments in the Cayman Islands and other notorious tax havens."
And why doesn't everyone do this?
Because, as the NYT added, "elite investors like Mr. Romney are able to increase their fortunes in ways unavailable to most taxpayers."
One set of opportunities for Romney, another for those Romney perceives as lazy parasites who refuse to "take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Leave the poor man alone. After all his wife had to watch him give away millions in order to clean up his tax return before he released it. The air thickened so much around her that I swear I could actually see the ice forming as she talked.
It's only temporary, Ann. Once the election is over, you can file the amendment to the return.
You'll lose a little from the lost interest for a few months at most.
This bimbo is Blowhard eddie without a penis, or maybe she does have one and eddie doe'snt. Either way the garbage they spew is so stupid it is funny. Not as funnt as you edhead and madcow followers but veryvery close...
This is why the Romney/Ryan plan makes sense! They're well aware of all the sneaky dodges rich people use to avoid taxes.....and may recognize that if they get rid of all of them that a reduced tax rate will not reduce Federal Income.
Of course, they can't tell us this, because it would make Mitt look really bad. That's why the math is so secret.
Except for the part where the amount of tax revenue this kind of stuff costs the Treasury--as opposed to outright law breaking like hiding money in countries with stringent bank secrecy laws--can be calculated with a fair degree of certainty and getting rid of it doesn't come close to offsetting Mittens new tax breaks for our poor, beleaguered Noble Galtian Overlord Job Creators.
And this is exactly why Mr. Robme need not become President of this nation!
One set of rules for him and his 1% buddies, another for everyone else!
FAILURE and treason, how much more must Americans see before they wake up?!?
Failure and treason? Here's real failure and treason for you
As for the treason part we have:
And all this covered up by Democrats with by-lines. This is failure and treason.
blanks,
You are full of @!$%#, as usual.
Repeal of Habeas Corpus? Oh, my, Obama must be the greatest traitor of all, secrectly amending the Constitution and all. Do you even know what Habeas Corpus is? Try going out and getting arrested, see if it still exists. If you truly believe everything you say, and are not just a soulless troll, you need pychiatric help. Immediately.
Edit: After some consideration, maybe after getting arrested, habeas corpus wouldn't work for you, given I think you would be deemed a danger to society.
No, no. Shooter has a point. But then, we don't want to talk about the war criminal that is ex-president Bush and the illegal war he started- though I suspect Mr. Shooters memory is too selective for that sort of debate.
However- it is nice to see ol' Shooter start to lose his cool. Started out as a 'gentle troll', and has progressed into irrationality as the Romney campaign has fallen apart.
@shooter- your oversized right wing is showing. May wanna try to, ya know, tuck that back in and all. ;)
Oooo, Blankman, haven't seen you all day. As usual your observations are aimed at the wrong President. It's alright, calm down, breathe, breathe deeply. I get it, my response took you totally off your usual, don't worry, you are among people that know you, and we will help you out against your own worst instincts....Peace be with you...
Zora and Donna: Shooter did a pretty good job highlighting the short comings and missteps of this admin. There are not two sets of rules; however not everyone can take advantage. Can everyone take advantage of the mortgage deduction?
You can't ignore the fact Obama declared he would get the unemployment rate down and cut the deficit in half. The surge in Afghanistan alone belie his deficit pledge. His "shovel ready" statement belies gitting the unemployment pledge. His "inherited" statements are growing old.
While I'm not an ardent supporter of Romney, I believe change (not Obama's type) is warrented. This admin is either incompetent or naive. And, certainly not transparent.
Tom,
This is coming from a person who plans to support robme knowing that robme will eliminate the medicare program that you use, so excuse me for not taking anything you have to say seriously.
Donna...,
He's just another pathetically obvious phoney.
Romney has no plan to eliminate Medicare . He proposed giving anyone under 55 a choice of medicare or a voucher.
A voucher. Huh.
The Romney-Ryan voucher plan would increase costs for people with Medicare to save money for the federal government. Because the voucher would not keep pace with medical costs, Medicare beneficiaries are likely to owe thousands of dollars more annually. Half of Medicare beneficiaries, about 25 million, live on incomes of $22,000 or less. They cannot afford the Romney-Ryan plan.
Rep. Ryan claims that people over 55 would be unaffected, but a Romney-Ryan Medicare overhaul could have devastating effects for seniors. The Romney-Ryan plan would encourage healthier people to enroll in private plans, leaving older, sicker people in traditional Medicare. This trend would make traditional Medicare less able to compete, meaning higher premiums for people with traditional Medicare. Rep. Ryan’s plan also would repeal health care reform improvements to Medicare that provide savings for beneficiaries on prescriptions and preventive care.
The Romney-Ryan plan would not be better for today’s seniors or for the millions now contributing to Medicare who expect it to be there for them. Under the Romney-Ryan plan, people would pay more for less health security.
And again: This is coming from a person who plans to support robme knowing that robme will eliminate the medicare program that you use, so excuse me for not taking anything you have to say seriously.
I can't respond to you since I get the impression you are confusing today's medicare with a proposal effective at least 11 yrs from now.
By the way, under ACA, people will get vouchers to join exchanges. Today, two large companies stated they will discontinue their health plans and give employees a fixed amount to buy a plan. This may or may not be a trend
Of course you can't respond, Tom, because you are hell bent on voting against your best interests.
You insist on staying ignorant, even after others have called you out on your ignorance as well.
But hey, stay stupid. It's your choice to do so.
But excuse me if I don't take anything you have to say seriously.
And he is probably worth a lot more than $250 million. A lot more. Why? We are currently in a world where investment returns are 2-3%, max. Some exceptions, of course. 3% return on $250 million is $7.5 million, That is generous, and presumes all his investments were winners.
What did he say his income was last year? $13.7 AGI. Between 5 and 6% return on investment. In a 2 to 3% world. Hmm.
Pshaw, pshaw, pshaw - I call pshaw on the poseur show called the Romney/Ryan campaign!
Someone who has the audacity to reduce his tax bill using an off-shore strategy is not qualified to make national decisions regarding national security and national tax policy, as he has shown himself simply by employing such strategy to be a cheap skate when it comes to supporting our national treasury so essential in collecting revenues necessary to carry out the functions of government - you know like filling in pot holes, changing street lamps, providing for our common defense, paying our obligations, and so much more that can't happen so long as the Mitt Romney's among us keep deliberately shirking their tax liabilities!
Mitt, you're unfit
to be our president! -Kevo
Romney contributed $3 million to carry out the functions of Govt. How much did you contribute? I'm pretty sure nowhere near that amount. Which, economically at least, Makes Romney a much more valuable citizen than you.
RobMe is a blood-sucking parasite, and thus nowhere near being a "valuable citizen" no matter how much you Randbots adore him.
Hey shooter, shiny objects prevent you from sentient engagement.
Your panting drool about the 3 mil misses the point of equitable tax rates and percentage of liabilities skewed in favor of the rich at the very real negative cost to the rest of us. Ah, but I've scanned many of your posts, and I don't think you know just what the argument is when you respond with your drivel.
Honest, tax paying citizens deserve to be my president in the ideal, but Mr. Romney has proven so far below any effort to become an honest tax payer, he deserves the amnesty he most probably exercised when his Swiss tax scheme was deemed illegal, but he does not deserve to be my president.
Now, quit while you're behind! -Kevo
Equitable tax rates? Half the country pays zero income tax, and you're still not happy? Tsk. The point remains, economically, Romney is a more valuable citizen than anyone here.
Meanwhile if you have some evidence Romney did something illegal let's see it.
Those on the right have little or no interest in objective reality. Their idea of "evidence" is Ideologically Sound/Theologically Correct propaganda/talking points.
If Romney didn’t answer right away and did not know how to reply about equal pay for women, then it is exactly because Romney doesn’t really want to pay hardly anything to workers. Look at what he has done along with his Bain Capital buying companies in China that basically have slave labor. Remember the comments made that Romney was a cheap bastard right from Bain Capital that is exactly what he will do is give every benefit to the rich and crap on everybody else. Romney acts like he is some expert, but is really just some blood-sucking leech that doesn’t know anything, except how fast he can fool and steal from the average person. Romney and Ryan are obsessed with money and have no control to help anybody, except how many pennies he can pinch to put in their pockets. Romney and the Republicans have been pulling this scam too long at the very misery, despair, and death of people. Certainly, these people are sick and they cry at the thought of paying a penny more in taxes. These people are not even loyal Americans, but would sell out America to the highest bidder as fast as they could as they fought over who would get the bigger share of profits. If the Republicans get in control of our government again, it will be them sitting on that porch drinking lemonades and complaining about the slaves not working hard enough in the heat of the sun. Also, that you do not deserve food, drink, or shelter, because you have not worked hard enough to serve their financial needs.
Please be careful using the words "tax evasion" and "tax avoidance". There is an important distinction between them. "Evasion" implies an illegal act, while "avoidance" is merely a legal strategy.
It is enough to say that Romney avoided taxes by using creative methods that are outside the scope of almost all other Americans. It is unnecessary to say that he is guilty of tax evasion.
If Willard took 'Tax Amnesty' in 2009 on his USB account in Switzerland, he IS GUILTY of tax evasion! USB got caught with ILLEGAL TAX EVASION schemes. They paid a fine of more than $700 Million and had to report the names of more than 4000+ Americans with the illegal accounts. We KNOW that Mittens had an account with USB in 2009 and closed it in 2010.
Unless Willard releases his 2009 tax return (which would show if he took tax amnesty), we can rightfully infer that the reason is that it would show that he got caught with 'his hand in the USB cookie jar' and was participating in an ILLEGAL TAX EVASION scheme.
Show us your tax returns Willard!
If Romney were to get elected, how long will it take him and his rich and powerful friends to change the tax code so that those tax evading plans are tax avoiding plans?
Maybe THIS is how the Romney/Ryan plan will reduce taxes for everyone: they'll show us how to DODGE taxes using the "offshore technique". Genius!
Rather than trying to explain the tax avoidance to folks, lets just go with Romney's statement indicating there was no tax avoidance involved in using offshore accounts. It's highly counter intuitive to invest money overseas and provide no reason for the investments. Romney's goal is to be President of the US. His investment strategy is quite anti-American and/or stupid.
Maybe just a sin of omission. You mean the Obama Campaign Cash Bundler Jonathan Lavine?
Interesting the link to the article proves the false premise of evading taxes.
Romney put his money into funds that in turn evaded taxes through Cayman accounts.
They owe the money at a higher tax rate when they repatriate the money back to the U.S. Besides, Bain Capital is really good for Obama.

Actually, skipperz,
I make more money than YOU do. :)
Funny, I called your punk ass troll bitch self out with plenty of facts yesterday. :)
And again: I can say whatever I want to say however I want to say, and if a punk ass troll bitch like you has a problem with that, then that is your problem, not mine.
If that avatar is really what you look like, you're no troll - you're a zombie!
Here's the full quote in that TNR article:
"The taxes you evade by putting your money in the Caymans aren’t your own personal income taxes, but your offshore investment fund’s corporate income taxes. More Holz-Eakin:
In other words, the Romneys aren’t evading income taxes by putting their money in the Caymans. The fund they put their money into is evading taxes by parking itself in the Cayman Islands. As a result, that fund (and therefore the Romneys) get to keep more of the profits. Why evade taxes when you can get somebody to do it for you?"
So Romney invests large sums of money, ostensibly taken from looting U.S. companies, and parks in the Caymans until such time as conservatives enact a "tax holiday" where he can bring it stateside after paying a token amount of tax.
If you want to call that patriotic, knock yourself out.
Nonsense. It is well documented that no corporation or very very few ever pay 35% corporate tax. Most pay none...because of all the tax loopholes. As far as their off shore investments they do not have to be held accountable for how the money is used. All these guys care about is profits. $100 million is not enough. So much for the trickle down huh. If they want to pay lower taxes in Brazil then keep their business in Brazil. But the cost of admission to our democracy requires these elites pay their fair share in taxes.
Recall that the rate used to be 91% and we had no bubbles or recessions and corporations kept their money in their business. Now the 'used to be taxed' profits go instead to CEO class having risen 275% over its work force.
What does "bundling for Obama" have to do with stashing cash in the Caymans. Hiding cash offshore should be enough to tell you this guy is not fit to be president because Romney/Ryan have only been concerned with profits and should stay in the private sector. Their greed disqualifies them from any government positions. Republicans try to tell us Ryan is a serious intellectual type but that bubble has been busted over and over by Paul Krugman..
Stop changing the subject and look at Romney/Ryan. They are not fit for our nations highest offices. Sorry about it.
Doubtful on the income Donna. And I don't think symbols for swearing are really facts.
But yes you can say whatever you want. Which isn't much more than "Oh yeah you $%#%. Eat #$@. That's the usual response.
Skipperz,
I could give a rat's ass if you believe me or not, @!$%#.
And yes I can say whatever it is that I want to say and however I want to say it. And If you are so butthurt about it, little troll boy, so be it.
And since you do go on about me, your little feelings seem to be hurt, little punk ass troll boy. Or else you wouldn't keep on about it.
So go @!$%# yourself.
:)
:) is right, punk ass bitch.

the emoticons wouldn't make it appropriate, of course.
Romney doesn't have that one invaluable human instinct that most non-sociopaths have, a sense of right and wrong. As long as he can benefit himself personally, and it is even remotely legal no matter how morally wrong, he sees that as doing good. He just doesn't like it when vague ideas like ethics get in the way of a bit of profit.
Romoney follows all the rules of Mormontology, which means in this world he gets to be rich, while he gets to be god of his own planet in the "next" world - at least that's what L. Ron Hubbard, er, I mean Joseph Smith, promised him.
Romney is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with our tax system which has been developed by the wealthy and special interests and for the wealthy and special interests. Our tax code is proof that buying people in Congress is very profitable. It is also certain that the code will never be revised to eliminate all the exotic deductions preferences and credits so long as we keep electing politicians who are merchandising legislation. The problem is deeper than Citizens United ruling; it is a systemic problem with our election process. Overturning Citizens United is a start, but we still need election reform before Congress will be something more than a whorehouse.
Mike, your post is right on the mark. I find it tragic that so many middle class people do not recognize this.
Absolutely. More important than reversing "corporations = people" is "money = speech." We need to remove money as a variable in the political equation.
It is totally feasible. Ban political advertising and build a social network where every candidate has an equal voice and voters can "pull" information to them based on their residency. Candidates can qualify for the ballot through virtual support of their constituents. Those without computers could still access information through the mail or at centers established at local libraries.
All of this could be done at a miniscule cost when compared to the billions that are spent today.
All that is needed is the political will to do it (aka, the hard part).

You didn’t figure that out yet the so-called Romney’s healthcare. That was set up and developed by people who really cared where Romney used them as a needed illusion he was a nice guy to fool people. Romney is lucky he can even figure out what time it is let alone actually do something that really helped people, except to how he could gain something financially at the expense of others. Romney even crawled over by Ryan, because he needed some sort of plan that he could never figure out himself. And it shows Romney’s real abilities, when he picked a plan that would be a total failure, except again foolish nonsense that only helps rich people. Yep, the greedy bastard Romney is the same as he always has been.
Daniel;
Johnathan Lavine is not running for President of the United States. Mitt Romney is. There is no "sin of omission" here. You are attempting to interject information that is entirely irrelevant to the article or to Mitt Romney's foreign bank accounts or his tax filings.
It is amazing to me that Mitt Romney can understand the intricacies of keeping his money away from the United States tax collectors while still maintaining that lower corporate tax rates on business will create jobs here. Businesses and investors who keep their money in offshore accounts have no intention of using that money to create jobs in the U.S.
S.D. Jeffries
What a great argument. Money from the same BAIN fund is only relevant for Romney. Pretend to follow the money.... only if it is a Republican.

The fact remains that Romney made his money "harvesting" U.S. companies, then parked the money off-shore so he wouldn't have to pay taxes on the income. That may be fine for your average blood-sucking 1%er, but it's not going to help you if you're running for President.
That you would choose to vote for such a person is your problem.
The U.S. economy is still the largest in the world. My hope is that the American consumer will stop buying products/services from these economic vampires and start enacting legislation that levels the playing field. If you believe that everyone outside of the upper class the ranks of millionaires and billionaires are worthless slackers, as Romney and Ryan have so "inartfully" proven, treating the working people of this country like so much dirt is a natural extension of such an ideology. Romney thinks that America is only held together by the brave purchases of car elevators and luxury yachts by the selfless men and women of the top one percent. With half of America "moochers" and "takers" selfish enough not to make a million bucks in a year, the rich are forced to carry this great nation. Mitt Romney is a clueless and callous charlatan, incapable of understanding Americans. progressive
A real patriot, that one,,
Stealing from America,,, the one that made his obscene wealth possible??
Even worse, those on the right in general applaud RobMe for it.
EntropyRules
I have no doubt they would all do it, if they thought they could get away with it,, sad
Really, the most bothersome thing about Romney's tax returns, to me, is the utter hypocrit they make Mr. Romney. Mitt Romney disdainfully calls out the 47% of Americans who do not pay income tax as lazy victims, while he himself does not pay an income tax. Hypocrit in the extreme. Furthermore, the taxes he does pay, allow him to pay only $3 million in capital gains- when, if that were taxed as income, he would be paying about $7.5 million. That is a $4 million tax break for Mitt Romney. One would assume that Romney believes that he has earned this money- so, why is it okay for him to not pay income taxes and to pay less taxes as a result of capital gains when almost half the nation are lazy bums because they do not pay income tax? It is ludicrous and it makes everything the man says about taxes that much more unpalatable. If he pays even less taxes because his money is in the Cayman Islands and such, then that just makes him that much more of a hypocrit. And this man wants the American people, most of which do not have the option of hiding their money in the Caymans, to vote him President.
Jealous of the rich is what it sounds to me. Given the comments made on this blog I would conclude your all middle class. I'm not saying that's bad, but I'm saying most of you don't have the smarts or guts to ever go for it, to take a chance. All you are capable of doing is complaining about how the rich are screwing you over.
You haven't a clue why the tax code is written the way it is. If you run up the taxes on the rich they'll put their money elsewhere. I know, that's fine with you!
In a few years we're going to be dealing with inflation because the federal government has put over 2 trillion into the economy. In the 80's it was double diget inflation.
There are 5 countries in Europe that will be going bankrupt. Greece is already there and just a few days ago Spain had asked for help.
Three cities in California have filled for bankrupcy this year and there are more to come.
If you think the rich are bad, wait till you realize how much better city, state and federal employees are making out and you're paying for it. You could take all of the money the rich have and it wont get us out of the financial mess were in.
Great! Another troll! <sigh>
Yes, Donnna, it's yet another worthless troll full of fact-free baggerbabble.
WOW!!! A whole lot of dialogue. Before you vote, ask yourself, DEEPLY.....why do YOU want 4 more, long years of OBAMA??? If you'd like a society that works for WORKERS and employers, please vote Republican.
Here, let me correct that for you:
If you'd like a society that works for WORKERS and employers, please vote
Republican.Democrat.You're welcome.
There are 3 remaining ideals in this world....Capitalism, Socailism, and Communism. How can ANYONE in the U.S. not vote for Capitalism?? If you want either of the other two systems, vote for Obama. If you believe that Capitalism stoked the founding (and future) of the United States of America, vote for Romney. It really, IS, that simple.
LOL! you sure are a funny troll! LOL!
Actually slavery stoked the founding of the United States of America. Which of your "isms" does that fall under?

First off I would like to say thank you ms Maddow for being one of the best speakers and thinkers of our world today. The country needs more people like you to be the voice of reason in such times as when we have the current horrid election as this. First off claiming that republicans wants workers....I am one of the 47% of this country that Romney claims will never vote for him. Here is a little background on myself to give you a big picture.
I am a infantry marine veteran of the former Iraq theater. I served in 04-08 so yes I actually saw the real ugly side of things. I have applied for nearly a hundred jobs in my area and within 60 miles, and no one but one company hired me. While hired I had through the roof production, outdid nearly every co worker in my manual labor job, and was fired three days shy of being off probabtion.....I am unsure what other conclusion I can come up with other than they were playing alot of workers, but as an at will company that is their right. Though here is your proof.
You have a veteran right here, who has applied for job after job, has been denied coverage for dental care by the v.a., to which I am rated 80% disabled. That is right even after being told by the V.A. on my first application for benifits that I am severely disabled, I STILL looked for work! Yes I currently barely live off my disablility, and have been denied on more jobs than I can remember. So I tell you this, Mitt romney is a blite upon this country. He is hiding money yet claiming that there are people who are sucking the country dry, there are, but mister Romney, if you say we are relyant on government and this country to live and we don't produce why don't you help?
Maybe most won't understand that, if you avoid taxes after making your money off the backs of Americans, are not you by closing the shop and ending their job making them as such? You directly ended jobs for self gain and profit of your company and yourself, yet here you are claiming you do not have to reviel your money and tax info as well as your secret account. Sir, listen to a young veteran currently going through some of the hardest times he has ever experienced, yes Iraq included. We should not have to fight for our lively hood after fighting for greedy men like you tell us we are useless people who are draining the economy. Well sir, your party is the one that made the Iraq war even possible.
On a final note, should I mention a man I know who currently is bound to a cane, missing his right thumb, has no controll over his right index finger, oh he was a machine gunner, that is known as a trigger finger (In other words he was no longer able to continue his military job), and also has molten metal now stuck in his face. Would you like to tell that man that after being pinned under a truck after an IED killed his driver and aputated his Corpsman leg, should he turn to find work with a useless hand that he uses now to brace himself on his cane while he drags his fused ankle around?
Please people do not believe the hype, believe the real story about two vets you just read if you took the time. I hope you keep doing what you are doing Ms Maddow, you ma'am give one vet hope. Thank you again.
Thank you for your service, Mr. Loomis. And for your eloquent statement. I just don't understand how anyone can support the Romney/Ryan campaign. Neither man seems to have a heart, and the brains seem to be deficient.
Hi James,
Just wanted to pass along to you an approach I used in finding employment. Pick out several companies that offer work the matches your skill sets. Know something about the company, when they started, the name of the President or CEO ect that way you can talk about the company your seeking employment with. Find out who does the hiring in each of these companies. The next thing you do is to visit these companies every week and ask if the are hiring or will they be in the future. Many people percieve persistants as a person who is hard working. It does work.
My daugther gave me some good advice was I was going through a difficult time. She said to me, "Don't be a victim". I had to give myself a hard look and it changed my attitude for the better.
It's surprising what you can learn from your kids. Speaking of kids, my daugther went to the same high school as Maddow but she went to UW and then ASU for her law degree.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and maybe you should know I'm a conservative. Were not all bad on this side of the fence
Oh, thank you so much for your condescending pearls of wisdom. Unfortunately for you, they are very basic stuff and have been common knowledge for decades. So, you can cut the faux-reasonable act.
I am sorry I have to agree with Entropy to a point there Les. You arrogant man. Yeah now why didn't I think of that, spend all week visiting companies with my skill sets, hole crap four years later and you figured it out for me! Thank you.
.....Please do not think that you are talking to a child, at the age of 18-19 I saw enough and did enough to mature very very quickly. I went from 19 to 40 in about two days. Sir, I do plan and reserch a company, but those wonderful skill sets? I was an infantry machine gunner. Tell me one place besides a contractor position to go back to the very hell I survived to spend another year at and another birthday at? Seriously think about what you say and the fact that you are using a comment from a child and not only that but your daughter. The fact that your daughter is trying to motivate you tells me that you have recently hit depression and most likely are lost your job due to the economic crisis, so guess what you are a victim.
Your daughter says don't be a victim, tell your daughter, then take away the victimizers. The greed of the 1%, or in America's case the upper 10%, is what makes victims and a victim cannot just stop being a victim. You will always be a victim by its definition, cause if it happens once then you are the victim. Accept that title there is no shame, I am the victim of a crap job market, my father is the victim of the hell in vietnam (Highly decorated before you even start commenting). Despite all that you can say yeah I was a victim of the depression that hit after eight years of a man that I refuse to talk about. Then once an employer actually pulled his head out of the sand and hired me I got my life back on track. Oh wait that last part is the fantasy hence keeping one such as mysel in the victim status.
I am not blaming anyone for these problems, maybe saying one is more responsible than the other, but I certainly am not trying to say oh woe is me. I am saying that the harsh truth is that no one wants to hire a man who has been doing nothing but shooting big guns at people and living in the most crap conditions one can see in todays military. That whole respect for the veteran's thing ends as soon as it comes to keeping one in your employment where he could be around other people. That might just turn out bad so let us avoid it and tell the veteran he isn't qualified for a factory job where he has to put boxs in another box on a big conveyor belt. That would be to hard for the psycho.
One last thing, why did you have to even write back to me? I honestly wish you had done the smart thing and take what I said for what it was, an angry rant of a stuck in the middle guy. I really think you should stop trying to play the big brother or fatherly voice helping out my poor helpless self. Maybe you should help your own family and yourself considering it is your child telling you how to shape up your life. Didn't anyone ever tell you it is suppose to work the other way? PARENTS TEACH YOUR CHILDREN, do not let them pass you and teach you for the rest of their life, it is called becoming dependant! Or as Romney would say, becoming a victim.
