Tonight's guests:
- Ryan Grim, Washington bureau chief for The Huffington Post
- Steve Schmidt, senior strategist for the McCain-Palin campaign and MSNBC political analyst
- Joan Fitz-Gerald, president of America Votes, former Jefferson County, CO clerk
And here's executive producer Bill Wolff with an explanation of the late breaking developments that will lead the show

I heretofore nominate Rachel Maddow for a Presidential debate moderator!!!
I second!
Wouldn't that be great? She surely gets my vote!!!
Dear Mr. Ryan,
Congratulations, A-hole. You are one of the 20% dependent on the federal government.
Oh, and, as a self-proclaimed "numbers guy", would you mind showing us the math, no matter how fuzzy, that was used to design your marvelous budget?
Most sincerely,
A concerned citizen

Tucker Carlson pulled a fast one on the crazy right wing world today! He reported on this video back in 2007 while at MSNBC. Same video, same analysis. BTW, Obama was talking about fed Katrina response... This isn't new, it's a retread and a very weak one at that. haha And FoxNews fell for it! Bha!
here is video from that MSNBC show 5 years ago... http://youtu.be/TyaNm3zHMRY
WHAT a joke!
Tucker Carlson is a joke,,
Is Bain harvesting again?

Are these Republicans total idiots, when they act like having black people develop businesses in the areas they live in as a bad thing. It is astonishing that Republicans really can be that stupid, when isn’t it a goal of a city to promote businesses in all areas of the city so a city can prosper and people can have better living conditions. I guess I can really be surprised yet that Republicans can still get really dumber.
Mr Ryan is somewhat correct with his 30% but not for the reason he thinks. Salvador Minuchin, a pioneer in establishing the field of Family Systems Therapy, said: " people who are financially secure think in decades; poor people think in terms of where do I find food for supper tonight" So it may be true 30% cannot express their American dream. But is not because they enjoy being poor; but because they are so busy trying to keep from being hungry or finding a safe and dry place to sleep they have no time to pursue a dream. R&R's policy would not help them explore a dream. It would give them less chance to achieve a dream.
Just what "American dream" is this Ryan fool talking about: Mitt's dream of being POTUS? His dream of being Vice-POTUS and one day the real thing? This qualifies as many people's worse nightmare!! The only thing that comes close to being as scary is Sarah Palin any where near the White House!
Kill me, please, if they somehow manage to win.
I am one of the infamous 47% and I will NOT apologize for being retired and drawing on my Social Security anymore than Veterans, the disabled or the working poor need to be tarred with the rich man's brush as being of no consequence in this Nation. Romney/Ryan make me sick.
One of the things I find reprehensible about republicans is that they seem to forget that people in this country work more than one job and still can't make ends meet. These same people make below a living wage and that is horrid for a country that boasts it is the richest in the world. What is bothersome is that there are Americans who believe that these people are moochers. I wonder if they are going to stand up to companies and ask for a living wage to be paid to these moochers. As much as I think that Steve Schmidt is one of the sane republicans, he seems to forget what the real America for the 30% is really like. Time for a living wage and let the 1% stop mooching off of the 30%.
This my first comment and I screwed up the sign in and double posted. Promise to do better
Hi,
I just saw the segment on the voter ID monkey business in Mass.
I've served as an election day precinct warden in the Roslindale section of Boston, 4 times since 2009.
There is NO way I would have allowed printed materials like that in the precinct. Indeed, only the official signage that comes in "the box" (with the ballots) is allowed. ALL other materials must be a minimum of 150 feet away from the polling place. This 150 ft rule is often trampled, by everybody. But, even so, not within the polling place. If the people in the show's segment were outside that distance, they could display anything ... even Yankee signs.
The precinct wardens in the story were derelict or complicit in this. Campaigns may assign "poll watchers" to observe. These folks may issue challenges, with cause, if warranted. Otherwise, they need to stay in their designated spot, and keep a sock in it. Period.
Anyway, I was a little disappointed by what was in that segment.
BTW, I was the warden for the Special when Brown won Teddy's seat. The Brown Campaign's poll watcher complimented me for my professionalism in running the polling place that day.
Go Pats!
I am one of the 30%-45% of people receiving $$ from the federal government. I recently retired at age 65. I believe in the American Dream! I *AM* the American Dream. I worked most of my life and paid into Social Security for the promise of being able to retire someday. I am entitled, as are millions of other Americans! And I resent the mud-slinging political rhetoric of the Republican presidential/vice presidential candidates who can't see the people behind the numbers they report.
Don't forget about True the Vote. You should do a whole segment on their activities to suppress the vote.
"Democratic Party is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read: UNFORTUNATELY, MOST VOTERS DON'T KNOW THIS.
#1 you cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
#2 What one person receives without working for , another person must work for withoutreceiving.
#3 the government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
#4 you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
#5 When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
