Romney campaign chairman John Sununu has been a little unhinged in his attacks on President Obama -- and sometimes, more than a little -- and in the wake of last night's debate, the Republican was in rare form with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell this afternoon.
Note Sununu's particular choice of words: he isn't just condemning the president in a rather classless way, he's using words like "lazy," "incompetent," and "disengaged." Asked if he wanted to take the words back, Sununu used the identical words again.
Sununu also said today, "When you're not that bright you can't get better prepared."
There was a point, not too terribly long ago, when Mitt Romney claimed to be outraged by sleazy, personal attacks, dragging the presidential campaign into the gutter. Given this, should we assume Romney will accept Sununu's resignation today?
Also, putting every other consideration aside, it's hard not to be offended by the casual and baseless smear of the president's intelligence. For years, Sununu and many of those who share his contempt for Obama have tried to make the opposite case: the president is too professorial and bookish, more comfortable at Harvard's faculty lounge than the "real world." Now we're apparently supposed to believe the opposite smear: that the scholarly, Ivy League, law professor president just isn't "bright" enough for the often-buffoonish Sununu's standards.
It's ugly and unnecessary, and given Sununu's routine difficulties with the basics of current events, rather ironic.

Sununu is a pompous A-- To tell lies must be a necessity to be Republican. everyone of them do it well!
Is anybody else here old enough to remember John Sununu being asked by George H W Bush to resign as his Chief of Staff, after he got caught using military jets to take him to golf resorts, ski lodges, and even his dentist in Boston? He cost the taxpayers over $600,000 for personal frivolous travel. Why is this guy talking on anybody's show? He should still be hiding in disgrace. You're NO PATRIOT John Sununu. You're still no better than a thief to those of us who remember you - a man who showed himself to be unworthy of the public's trust.
Unfortunately, this is AMURRICA, where those on the right are given a free pass whenever possble.
and will still whine about "media bias".
At some point in the life of every
empire of record comes a time when an unqualified and egotistical leader takes
control of the reins of power. Rome enjoyed the reign of Nero and Caligula and
others of that cloth and survived, for a while. Russia, England, China, France,
Germany, Prussia, Hungary and others also endured these self-indulgent tyrants
for a lengthy period of time. Now, America is faced with the choice of adding
its name to that infamous list of disastrous historical errors by voting for
our own home grown version of incompetence in Willard Romney. As America
endures this Republican economic skid, some there are who want to over-correct the
slide by changing drivers during this crisis. However, that advice is not a
wise plan considering our perilous financial condition. Small and incremental adjustments
should bring America back to a safe and steady course going forward. Vote to
re-elect president Obama on November 6th. You will be glad you did.
I felt Sununu's comments were really racist. I don't say "racist" as a catch phrase. Sununu called the President lazy. Unintelligent. And he used a joke by Obama ("they made me go out for pizza") to reduce him as a delivery boy. What I heard was a not-so-subtle "N"slur. Dumb black delivery "boy".
I am white. When I heard this, and Andrea Mitchell's attempt to let Sununu take it back/rephrase, I saw red. Through the whole debate I saw a smirking, lying, rude, pompous ASS named Willard Mitt Rmoney, and I wanted to shove my foot into places that have never seen the light of day.
I believe when you expect to debate one person and another shows up, you are really off your stride. I believe when you raise your voice in an argument (last night was NOT a debate), you have lost. And I think with the lies (and EVERY pundit -except Faux News said Romney lied), Rmoney has run with the fishing line and Obama will reel him in.
Former Governor Sununu was rude to Andrea Mitchell, disrespectful of the president, and seems to be determined to outdo himself at being arrogant, overweening, condescending and deeply, disturbingly wrong. Was he channeling Dick Cheney?
Why does the media give Sununu energy? What is the point? He doesn't offer anything of intelligent political discussion. Is this just to "stir the pot" ??
That would be a hell no Rachel. No apologies and no one is getting fired.
By now those seeking the truth are not going to let the President's lack of performance last night deter them from voting for him because they know that the alternative lying and delusional Mitt Romney is not the answer... and for Mitt to have vitriolic people like Sununu running around spreading mean-spirited and hateful racist comments about the President of the Unitted States is beyond the pale... Romney if he had any balls would demand that Sununu apologize
This guy is the most obnoxious individual I have ever listened to. They're paying him really good money, I'd say. He needs a good knock across the head.
Really? This is the guy you have speaking for your campaign? That says A LOT right there. Not only are his comments low class but they are absolutely ridiculous. As Rachel says, you can't have it both ways. They paint Obama as an intellectual elitist from Harvard AND someone "not that bright". Okay. Who ARE these people? Really! The man got in to Harvard, first of all, on nothing more than his merits and hard work, becomes President of Harvard Law Review, goes on to teach Constitutional Law and is a State Senator, US Senator and President of the United States. Not bright? That's more than a reach, it's absurd. This man couldn't even hold a conversation with the President. What a tool!
The fact that Romney has this fat, racist, giggling bag of pus as a spokesman speaks volumes about what kind of man (and I use that term loosely) Romney is.
When did we become so disrespectful of the President? During the "Bush" years (as the media likes to call it) or is it just because he is not caucasian? Mr. Obama is still the President and should be referred to as such whether we like him or not. How can we expect our children to learn respect if we don't practice it ourselves? To call someone lazy because they were politely waiting their turn to speak is disgusting and does not speak well of the speaker!
We became disrespectful of the President precisely when the president became a black man.
It is despicable, and to a degree I blame CNBC for giving an inbred waste of DNA like Sununu a platform to foul the airwaves.
Apparently Romney's bulldozer bullying makes it o.k. for Sununu to be incredibly disrespectful of the President and Andrea Mitchell. YUCK!
John Sununu should just go ahead a say "Obama doesn't want to work for his government check."
Wow, if Obama would not have had altitude sickness like Gore said he would've won. The mere fact that Romney even brought up Solyndra was disrespectful, what was he thinking, everyone knows that the wind/solar guys are way less greedy than the oil companies. I mean really, like we could have used that 80 billion somewhere else, like for hiring more teachers? This is just plain ridiculous…. SAID NO ONE EVER…..
SuNONO used classic racist code words - lazy, incompetent, not that bright. (Sununu must have been watching himself on the monitor.) I was surprised he didn't refer to President Obama as "boy." How shameful that in 2012 such hatred still exists! Will the racist hate ever end............
Sununu didn't have to call the President of the country "boy". Romney already did that when he compared the President of the United States to his 5 "boys" who "keep telling the same lies over and over thinking he will believe them."
What filth!!!!!
Watching last night's debate, it was clear that President Obama was off his game- very disappointed. But I couldn't help but wonder who that guy in the red tie pretending to be Mitt Romney really was. Clearly, Romney approached the debate as an aggressive vulture capitalist, someone "entitled" to transforming not only the debate format but the marketing of a totally new set of "facts." Romney's demeanor proved him a bullying, condescendin, billionaire CEO who enjoys firing and belittling regular folks. His quoting the Constitution and attempts to convince viewers that he is the guy to stand up for the middle class came off shallow, insincere, and inauthentic. Romney's performance served to cater to the here-to-fore unimpressed Republicans' and ultra far rights' wet dream- a 90 minute "panderpalooza" to undecided Republicans seeking validation that Romeny will govern from the middle, despite his months of catering to Ryan-esque Tea Party wingnuttery. Despite his behind closed doors dismissal of 47% of the American people, his plans to protect the wealthy above the economic recovery, and his draconian proposals to reduce the debt, Romney proved once again that he will say whatever is necessary to say to win the election. Truth and the country's future recovery be damned. It is no surprise that as video proves his high level medacity, the morning after flip-flopping has already begun.
John Sununu is another word for vile.
Shamumu was disgusting. Obama does more before 6am than he does in a month. Sad, angry old man, Shamoomoo is.
Did anyone else watch Pres. Omaba's body language last night. What I saw was a very smart campaigner setting up an opponent. " Give a man enough rope and he will hang himself" I believe the President was setting up Romney allowing him to reveal his .. Hidden agenda and maybe implausible plans, and to come at the President with his best shots.
Did anyone else notice when Romney interrupted President Obama slyly bowed his head smiled slyly and wrote down Romney's rants. Do any of you remember Rocky training for his World Championship match with one arm tied behind his back egging his opponent on with "... Is that all you got.. " while all the while waiting for just the right moment to show his opponent, he was only playing with him and now he will hit back with both hands and show the world who is the true Champion of this contest.
I believe Pres. Obama and his campaign strategy was to let Romney get a false sense of security and maybe just maybe reveal his true nature and some specific agenda to the American public. The least the President would get out of this gamesmanship was to see what Romney's strategy is. Romney and Ryan have plenty already out in public record to bury them both. This first skirmish was just adding fresh fodder to the Romney sty.
This coming from a man who can not tie his own shoes ... Really ?!?
This Sununu guy is rude, prejudice, and aggressive, especially toward women. Anyone could feel Andrea’s frustration dealing with this psychopath! Besides, looking at his physical appearance, he seems to be the real lazy one. President Obama’s diligence, modesty, truthfulness, and respect toward others have made him this popular. These
attributes are what resonate with the American people, not how good a salesman
he is. On the other hand, last night we saw quite a revealing performance of a
cunning corporate CEO, Romney, selling his bag of lies artfully yet at any
price. If we allow this snake-oil salesman to succeed and close this deal with us, he will bankrupt the country again like his predecessor buddy Bush!
I am so repulsed by Sununu thjat I am having a difficult time typing these words. Integrity is an empty void with this Republican Party.
I think the Republican party needs to denounce this as well as the Media needs to get involved.
Sununu needs to look into a mirror and see if he can face that face looking back at him - this will absolutely alienate rather than welcome
