Pursuant to Laura's difference-spotting challenge yesterday, and the show's exclusive coverage last night of Pennsylvania's weak effort to inform voters on the subject of I.D. requirements, Kent and I got to thinking about making some changes of our own to the VotePA web site's advisory (which VotePA also appears to have found the inspiration to change since yesterday). Some of our results:

Or they could just go crazy:

When Holder (Not the detective from The Killing) gets done persecuting pot stores in CA, perhaps he can muscle the state of PA to adhere to court orders. Where is Rendell, Casey, hello, PA anyone home?
The only thing I would add to that last one with 'Voters are not required to show photo ID to vote in 2012' is a very large "so FU teapubs" right underneath that line. And I really like having Corbett's face on there. They really should do that so people know who actually supports all this stupid crap.
Congratulations PA.. The birthplace of libertine!
Welcome to the Fascist Tea Party state of Pennsyvania.
Dont have to show ID in Washington state, for registering, yes, to vote no. The whole state votes absantee ballots.
These are scary times for true democracy....
Your comment inclined me to think of the "Carpet Bagger" era , soon followed by the Ku Klux Klan . The typical movements of this sort seems to latch violently on to any social angst available , certainly recognising the rights of formerly despised groups would be rich in easily disposed victims of this type of predation .
The Tea Bagging hero's seem to have missed little from Nathan Bedford Forrest's and George Gordon's founding thoughts . Gordon who if there is a such thing as a former Confederate Brigadier General was likely in the minds of the "faithful" amongst their generals against unarmed non vilolent opponents .
George Gordon from Wikipedia -
..."a white man's government", "the reenfranchisement and emancipation of the white men of the South, and the restitution of the Southern people to all their rights."...

I wish many of the great liar's from history could stand up and bow to demonstrate respect to the great achievement in erecting a wall of rubber and glue misinformation and denials , in an "Information Age" . Modestly directed from job exporting mugwump , his royal highness , Mittens the fraud , who accepts fealty as his due .
The fraud is not in the vote, but in the quest to stop some voters. (Pssst. They might be democrats, or poor, or elderly, or all three!!!) Protect your rights, many have died for them.
Can we vote on the pictures? I like Picture # 3 best!!
Some years back the conservatives and the liberals were up in arms about a "national ID". I didn't worry much about that being military and having carried an ID since I was 24 years old. Now the conservatives want all of us to have a picture ID. Ostensibly this is for voter fraud prevention. Is that the real reason? Do they just want us all to have ID so the "papers please" thing can go nationwide? Why are we all in this handbasket and where are we going? Are we in a time warp? Is this 1930 Germany? Just askin'!
You're right, Col Jim. One big bugaboo for conservatives was HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act of 1996. Among other things, HIPAA established national healthcare provider identifiers, national payer (insurance and Medicaid) identifiers, and a national healthcare beneficiary identifier. All of this was to make billing and coordination of benefits run smoothly. Hah! Guess what, all the conservatives, especially the religious right, got all up in arms about the personal beneficiary identifier and blocked its implementation. Why? Because apparently in the Bible (or some wacko derivative thereof) there is something about a universal identifier and the Mark of the Beast and some such nonsense out of the book of Revelation. Anyway, it has never been implemented for healthcare. There may have been some "papers please" resistance to it, but by and large, conservatives are pretty happy with Nazi-like identification measures, such as the voter ID stuff today.
Does it really say ut-nay ot-nay equired-ray? That's pretty tricky for people whose first language isn't English!

I love it!!! (even made me spit out my Dr Pepper, lol) I promptly shared it on FB!!!
PA state government is a slimy GOP-dominated backwater where judges and buraucrats resort to deception and trickery to suppress the vote. By the way, I am not a "new user," but the web page I am presented over my Lockheed Martin/USG censorship regime- intercepted and maliciously tampered with connection says that I am, and that I "may notice a few temporary content restrictions." This is deceit and trickery on the federal/fusion center level that targets journalists and other alleged "dissidents." Please see VicLivingston(dot)blogspot(dot)com recent stories for details.
I hope these states will get volunteers to watch the polling places for instances of trying to hand out provisional ballots. Do not accept one of those unless it's absolutely necessary.
I read something very disturbing about giving first time voters. They may receive a provisional ballot. I would push for a standard ballot. Maybe vote by mail/absentee is best?
I recommend checking your state/commonwealth website (Secretary of State)
Here is CA's provisional ballot info: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_provisional.htm
If you are a first time federal election voter, you might need your I.D. or they can hand you a provisional ballot, which is mostly just to humor the voter and probably not count. Bring and I.D. or vote by mail, if possible.
I own a home and have voted in PA since 2009, but currently teaching on the Navajo Reservation. I download the application for absentee ballot a few weeks back and of course got a rejection because I did not include my ID. Today however I talked with the election clerk in McKean county and she relented and is sending me my ballot.
We have information that incumbent Republican candidates in suburban Pennsylvania are going to put out door knockers on Democratic doors, to tell them that they NEED a photo ID to vote-We hope to call them out on this but maybe Rachel could spill the beans
The PA Dept of State website states first-time voters have to produce an id: http://www.votespa.com/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1174125&mode=2.
When you talk about the PA voter id law still being touted, DO NOT leave out the library system. Chester County Library, ccls.org, has a link on their website (still) saying voter id is the law. It's infuriating considering taxpayer money subsidizes them, not coins from Corbett's own pocket.
I just checked the Allegheny county voter information site and found that they are saying that first time voters need to present a form of picture identification in order to vote. This appears to be a very deliberate form of miscommunication. Here is the site: http://www.county.allegheny.pa.us/elect/index.aspx
Wouldn't what Republicans in Pennsylvania are doing be considered contempt of court? Just curious. Usually if a court rules a certain way and then those on the losing side of ruling refuse to obey the court's ruling, then they are in contempt of court, sometimes with heavy penalties until the losing side obeys the court decision. Is there any recourse by Democrats to have the court find the Republicans in contempt of court?
Rachel. Ohio's Supreme Court ruled ten years ago that our educational funding system is unconstitutional under the Ohio constitution. Our house has been controlled by Republicans. Hence, they have simply ignored the ruling. Nothing has been done to fix a system that is grossly unequal and horribly inadequate in its poorest districts. Welcome to the Midwest.
I just checked out the Allegheny County Pa site and found that they are telling new voters that they must show i.d. Here is the site: http://www.county.allegheny.pa.us/elect/index.aspx
There are so many people who will be confused about this. Its a shame that the suppression continues despite the legal victories.
I don't understand why showing an ID is voter suppression? I have to show ID to get on a plane, to get past security when visiting a client, to cash a check, to buy a six pack, to operate my car to the polling place to cast my vote. Otherwise if I didn't want to vote for myself, I could send me 15 year old son or gardener to vote for me.
Unlike the requirement for an ID card to get past a security post, cash a check, drive a car, ad infinitum, the right to vote is a constitutionally protected right and is cited in at least three places in the constitution
Perhaps, the citizenry would be well-served by you sending your son or gardner to vote in your place.
Not only where are the 2 Democratic senators, but where are the local news stations on the this subject. Hello ABC, CBS and NBC local news stations this is a big story. Its time that you start covering it.
Because of your show tonight, I checked our township's website and it still reflects incorrect information concerning the Voter ID laws in PA. I will be putting pressure on our local township mgr to correct this. But, this makes me wonder just how many townships in PA have incorrect information at the local level.

Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention.
Isn't it TREASON to try to Suppress the Vote in a free & Democratic Country
Sununu did not say Obama was stupid... he said he was not that bright..
He said O was lazy and I guess if you only had 1 cabinet meeting so far this year in July what would you say... not showing up for work? Is that lazy or is it something else like not engaged or or busy or golfing or what...
Clark - with all due respect, do you know the role of the Cabinet in today's time? The cabinet means something completely different today than it did before... and should really not be used as measuring stick of the President's performance. He has people he consults with. There is nothing that states a President has to meet with his cabinet "X" amount of times -- just that he HAS one. Again, this is another supposed big revelation that the conservative party has come up with - thinking they are saying something revolutionary, but not understanding what they are repeating. If you need to know what the President has accomplished during the past 3.5 years - then why don't you do some research - and THEN decide whether or not you want to be upset that he didn't "meet with his cabinet" the amount of times you believe he should have.
PA voter ID (BS)
just watched the show tonight with my mom back home in camp hill pa (cumberland county). Rachel mentioned our red county which is right across the susq river from harrisburg. had to see the cumberland election site for myself (not surprised). then tried to find the phila.gov updated info (X river from camden). what i found was not what was on the show:
http://vote.phila.gov/
http://vote.phila.gov/voteridentification
http://www.phila.gov/Pages/default.aspx
(#4 bubble in scroll screen)
@Rutgers... that's really interesting. I see what you mean. This is the site we used. Oddly, the .gov one you found says "for demonstration purposes only; not an official website." I'll look into this. Thank you for pointing it out.
I think what you've found goes to the larger point: There's so much room for confusion, in so many places, and the state hasn't yet covered all the bases.
