Arkansas state Rep. Jon Hubbard (R)
Arkansas state Rep. Jon Hubbard (R) thought it'd be a good idea to pull together a series of letters to the editor he's written, and then compile them in a book called "Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative." I think it's fair to say he failed to think this through.
Excerpts of Hubbard's book have started to make the rounds, offering the public a chance to learn exactly what it is that's "frustrated" this particular "conservative." For example, the Republican apparently believes slavery has received a bad rap.
"... the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth." (Pages 183-89)
African Americans must "understand that even while in the throes of slavery, their lives as Americans are likely much better than they ever would have enjoyed living in sub-Saharan Africa."
"Knowing what we know today about life on the African continent, would an existence spent in slavery have been any crueler than a life spent in sub-Saharan Africa?" (Pages 93 and 189)
Hubbard's book goes to say, among other things, school integration has been a mistake because black students have corrupted white students.
And as it turns out, Hubbard's colleague, Arkansas state Rep. Loy Mauch (R) has also written a series of letters to the editor, some of which also defended slavery. This is the same Mauch who "helped organize a 2004 conference calling for the removal of an Abraham Lincoln statue in Hot Springs, which included a keynote speech entitled 'Homage to John Wilkes Booth.'"
Arkansas GOP officials "tried to distance themselves" from the two state lawmakers over the weekend, but it's probably fair to say the Republican outreach effort to minority communities has suffered another setback.

Racists and Liars have always been with us. What is frightening is the penchant for electing these scum to office!
Sounds like your lost of words.

I wonder if the person on that site is the same person as our troll.
You might be right Entropy
"The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship"
Soooo Kidnapping, torture, rape, murder, and an institutionalized system of inhuman degradation are all pit stops on the path to citizenship?!?!?!
Has anyone checked to see where this guy gets his sheet cleaned?
I honestly cant come up with a cogent rebuttal to this because I am seriously sick right now
What Hubbard said does not merit a "cogent rebuttal", it should be treated like the bigoted filth it is.
Things like this demand a cogent rebuttal if for no other reason than to illustrate their ultimately flawed weakness. So I took some time to think and process, (I try to never go off half cocked because all that does is reduce debate to schoolyard shouting) and having done so I think I understand why this bothers me so much.
It's not this mans beliefs, it's not even the fact that he is a lawmaker, or the basic and fundamental evil of this ideology. Those things do disturb me on a very profound level but what when you get down to the core of it bothers me most is that their are people wiling to use this to acquire power, influence, political and financial gain with an utter and complete disregard for the consequences of their actions.
This is the political equivalent of biological warfare. They have used all the means at their disposal to cultivate a disease that they believe will destroy their rivals but that through distance and carefully chosen words they themselves can be inoculated against leaving them the only survivors.
But things like this, like disease never remain contained and they mutate and become more virulent and eventually turn on those that created them and ultimately leave nothing but chaos and destruction in their wake. Saying that this disturbs me would be the most gross understatement imaginable because my genuine reaction is closer to genuine terror. I served in Bosnia and I have seen first hand the result of bigotry pushed by rhetoric beyond the point of sanity or reason, and I hope and pray to all I hold holy I never see it again.
I am not making the leap that one lone bigot in a State legislature will destroy the republic with his self satisfying demagoguery. Rather I am suggesting that left unchallenged it debases and rejects the ideals and lives of all the men who have suffered and died in the pursuit of the justice and equality throughout the history of this nation.
Perhaps it is telling that we have taken for granted for so long that this demon was banished that we are startled when we see it's head reared openly in the full light of day. That we would rather wish to dismiss it as a child's fairy tale of a boggy man that once was but may never harm us again, but we would know that that would be untrue.
Battles have been waged throughout the history of this nation in defence of the ideas of equality and liberty and the greatest victories in those battles have come not with bullets but with words and deeds of public courage that are supported and defended by the best of our ideals.
We should regard things like this not as smoothing to be dismissed out of hand and forgotten but as a reminder that the rights and privileges so hard fought for must be defended. The those ideals we hold dear must be exercised or that they will wither. Perhaps it is time to walk through Alabama again.
.
Has anyone checked to see where this guy gets his sheet cleaned?
They no longer wear sheets and the pointy hats that drape their faces and hide their identities.
Now their fashion is to wear Tea Bags.
The "tea" made from those tea bags they wear? Well, it's still brown but I wouldn't want to drink it, considering what it smells like. Doesn't seem to stop the Tea Bagger though.
.
maddow l go take up home cooking 101. Another one of your Pot Stirring. Nobody's buying it anymore.
Wow, so by quoting such stuff she is stirring the pot? So you do not believe her but then you must not believe your own ears either.
Buying what anymore? The hateful words of a man that are facts published by himself? Poor troll, it's so silly to watch you try to deny reality. It's also nice to see that you also seem to have no problem with slavery with your attempt to ignore it and then decry those who call those who support slavery to task. What a sad little man you are, "bronzestar".
I think what bonzestar is trying to say is that, this story isn't worth covering, because you know it talks about THE OTHER.
It's a personal chronicle of his book. He has the right to his own personal thoughts. Just like you parking in a handicap stall when you not handicap. The sky is not falling. Our laws wouldn't let it get to first base. Let Arkansas Deal with it. Maddow running out of GAS. Let's get to real issues, like 582,000 part time jobs from Obama Glowing job report. zzzzzzzzzzz!
Yes he has the 'right' to his own personal thoughts and WE have the right to know what they ARE and not vote for him. Go away.
We also have the right to point out that Hubbard is spewing bigoted filth, and hold him accountable for it.
Mego --I take it the truth hurts, when you say, "go away." So your in support of control and monitored Journalism, put it simply stop freedom of speech? Are you just too intimidated!!!!!!
EntropyRules
--Do you really believe the voters are that naive in these days and time. We have bigger problems than this garbage. All Maddow is doing is trying to stir the pot for the Rublicans, deterring from the lack luster performance of Obama at the debates. It's nothing but a chess game.
Ooh, a troll parade! I don't know how they do it, day in and day out and no stars in their life. Poor Bronze star here is still searching for the gold.
angel-- I take it you were raised under some power lines? Don't like my memorandum. So they bother you, or just might be the truth.
bronze,
I hear you. Everyone has a right to their opinion. Everyone has a right to run for office, and get elected. A racist small minded jackass being in the AK state legislature is factually nothing new. We should all be tempted to look at the car crash but move along anyway. Except, there two problems. First,it's 2012. To have such conclusions is to expose your ignorance for the world to see. Even though he has a right to do that, shouldn't AK citizens know who they've elected? Second, Maddow Blog isn't and has never been national politics only. Thank God there's a forum to proudly discuss stupid elected officials wherever they are.
What did you get your "Bronze Star" for? Being stupid enough to raise your head above the ridgeline while the bullets were flying, as you have done here, moron?
Thanks though for the daily demonstration of stupid stupid has to be to be one of you ignorant southern pieces of something we scrape off our shoes. Too bad we didn't get rid of more of your ancestors when we had the opportunity.
TCinLA--- You really don't have much to say do you. I'll take that back, your speechless. I'm not going to insult you, you've done that to yourself.
718bknyc---"To have such conclusions is to expose your ignorance for the world to see." That's your quote, be a little more specific on your back door remark. Back up what your saying. And if this article is not in reference to politics, then you must have tipped the bottle to much last night.
Look who is getting all pissy about language...the worthless troll who is incapable of expressing himself better than the typical ESL student.
EntropyRules--- You like to micro manage people don't you. You want to be in control. NOW I'm going to give you a second chance on my remarks. Read it again, open your mind and broaden it. maybe , just maybe you'll catch where I'm going with this.
I can see that you are a bigoted troll making excuses for a bigoted politician, and making pathetically lame attempts at a guilt trip.
EntropyRules-- No guilt trip for me. It's you that has the guilt trip. You've lost control. But I do have to admit, you amuse me the character you are.
It doesn't seem to know what a "guilt trip" is. Such a mental giant...NOT!
Gee he never answered what he might have gotten a bronze star for. Could he have been awarded one for stolen valor?Did it come from a pawn shop?
.
I would never dream of inhibiting anyones Freedom of Speech and Expression.
It's best when people expose their Mental Diseases and Malfunctions themselves and using their own words.
.
The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.
Well, the ones who weren't worked or beaten to death, anyway.
Your fat jelly ass wouldn't last two seconds - Can we revoke your citizenship now?
White people can't become a plurality of the population fast enough. Obviously, not all white people are like these guys (I'm white), but those who are and who get into positions of power are only able to do so because whites have had a clear majority. That's what makes the Southern Strategy work. The ongoing demographic shift is the only sure thing that will 86 the political relevance of these people.
That is what's got those folks so upset and possibly why they don't like birth control being readily available.
If slavery was such a blessing in disguise, perhaps he should try it himself. There are some fields he can work in and some shackles he can wear...
He is a slave to his own stupidity.
So being kidnap, hauled across an ocean in chains. So you can be humiliated, beaten and degraded, all so you can make someone else rich. All the while you and your people are treated worse than sub human beings, and more like a necessary property you really don't want. Is soooo much better than living a life as free person in your own home land. Because a couple of 100 years later, you can become citizens of the country who enslaved you in the first place. Is a far better deal than any other immigrant to this country, by boat on their own free will.
OK not to sound like I'm playing the Race Card here, but only a white guy would think that slavery was a good thing. I'm not one of those people who becomes overly anger about Slavery and America's past dealing with it. And I'm not one of those guys who see a racist around every corner. But I'm also not one of those guys who think that just because we as a country elected a Black President, that racism no longer existed in this country. Yes we still have them, and yes slavery happened in this country. But to suggest that because of it, I should be grateful, because I'm now a citizen of this country. Is completely one of the single most dumbest things anyone, more less a politician, can ever say on the subject.
Calvin -- yes his thoughts are distorted. I'm not defending him. But does that make Al Sharpton an exception to the rule? Sharpton come up with some stupid remarks! We all have our skeletons. It's how we control them.
Hey, lying bagger, go to Free Republic or one of those other knuckle-dragger web sites.
Now who's the Racist! Prove that I'm lying?
No it doesn't give the Rev Sharpton any more latitude than anyone else. Or anyone else who uses the subject of Slavery or racism as a political tool. To be completely honest here, I personally do not like anyone who does this, regardless of their ethnic background, or their reasoning in doing so.
All Sharpton' Jesse Jackson, The NAACP or any other person or group, who uses this subject as a tool. Are no better than their opposing side who does it the same thing.
I'm not blind to the fact that racism is still around, or that slavery happened in this country. But I feel like if we as a country, are ever going to truly move past it. Both sides are going to have learn to stop perpetuating the issue, and using it as some kind of justification for their cause.
Race baiting happens on both sides of politics. And until both sides learn to not use this country's past and present for that matter, as some kind of prop, we will never live in a "post racial society". Not as long as both sides use race to insight fear or mistrust against each other.
I remember after coming home from serving in The US Army, I was walking down the street. Two guys in a pick up truck slowed down and started throwing pennies at me. Saying "go back to Africa you N*!" At first I was quite mad, then I felt pity for them. Because they didn't know that I swore an oath to protect this country, and by default them. So they can act the way they did towards me. Now I could have acted in a more argumentative and aggressive way towards them, but I didn't. Because it wouldn't have changed the situation at all, only made it worse. And secondly I was not about to let two men I have never met, or will never see again, make into a person that I am not.
Calvin ---I can appreciate your honest statement. Thank you
That's mighty white of you bronzehead.
EntropyRules
Your still hurting inside aren't you???? You just don't like anything do you!!!
More projection.
What is really sad, because this is a red state, it really doesn't seem to matter what these people say. The more crazy they are, the more people seem to like them.
Words of a true, moden day humanitarian.. Your Mama must be so proud! Can somebody help me? I forgot where I parked my time machine! Ugh...
it's probably fair to say the Republican outreach effort to minority communities has suffered another setback.
Doesn't that assume racists are a majority community?
Actually my reaction to the idea that this is a setback to minority outreach is "do they really care?" The sentence makes the assumption that reaching out to minority communities is a priority or even on the radar screen. In some states, I'm not so sure, but especially in some congressional or state representatives' districts, those kind of comments are probably essential for victory.
all unsuprising coming from ignorant men from a state that seems to go out of its way to glorify stupidity. Sometimes I think it would have been better for the confederacy to have left, though it would not have been better for the slaves there. I wonder, since slavery is so great, would Mr. Hubbard would consent to be mine? I promise only beat him mostly to death and golly I would promise that as long as he survived, he'd get a special present.
It would have been better if the confederacy had been "ethnically cleansed," starting with the hanging of the great traitors Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and all the rest of them.
What is so frightening to me about having politicians in office that think slavery is a good thing, is that slavery is bigger now then in any other time in history, children, women and other adults are being brought to American and forced into slavery. Columbus, Ohio is one of the major hubs for slavery, to the point that there is now a shelter dedicated solely to helping slaves regain their freedom. If politicians think this is a great way to become a citizen, these poor people are doomed.
CAC gotta be CAC.
Mauch has been a known entity for some time now, hailed publicly as an example of the increasing political influence of the white nationalist League of the South, of which he's long been a member.
If his fellow Arkansas Republicans are only now publicly distancing themselves from him, that says a great deal about them -- they're not bothered that he holds these views; they're upset that they've suddenly become more widely known and might reflect poorly on them.
The time to distance themselves from Mauch was six, seven years ago. Too little, too late.
That this man is a "Representative" of his constituents tells me two things:
1) WE so have not become a "post-racial" society.
2) There are people more ignorant than he is, and more dangerous cause those low-information sheeple voted this guy into office!
This man and the sheeple that voted for him are proof of how dumbed down and grossly undereducated that these people are. It is also a symptom of the societal break-down that has been taking place over the last 25+ years! This guy wants to re-introduce "slavery" - fine, I hope his fat ignorant a$$ is the first on the "sales block" after I've whupped him a few times, I won't forget to mention to him how lucky he is and how much better off he is!
Naughty Big Bird for causing all these changes to our regulations and laws that created immense greed and the destruction of our world economies. Especially these corrupt wars you created Big Bird in Iraq and Afghanistan and to think you want to cause more wars with no solutions shame on you. And all that cash you have hanging out of your pockets Big Bird that just isn’t nice look at all the people you put into misery, despair, violence, and death. A long with our environment you destroyed that will and has caused sickness, starvation, droughts, worse severe weather, and just more violence with death. Don’t know Big Bird what to do with you, maybe a very long stretch in prison or force you to have to live in those conditions until you fix and clean it up.
in case you've missed the recent stories, thanks to the koch's and their millions, arkansas is likely to follow the other former members of the confederacy into the american version of the middle ages by electing a republican majority legislature. not that their democrat predecessors were any great shakes, but these clowns with their anti-sharia, anti-immigrant, anti-evolution, anti-tax laws are truly something to behold. when rome fell, indoor plumbing and brick laying were forgotten arts for nearly a milennia, but superstition, intolerance, benighted religion, and crude aristocracy reigned. churchill foresaw this in nazism and warned of a new dark age made more sinister by perverted science. david barton and creationism come to mind.
If Republicans get any crazier I just don't know. This is just another disgusting example of Republican stupidity and Republicans say they want to promote Democracy in the world. Does Republicans want to restate their comments to what they really are? Extremists of hatred.
So your saying the republicans are the demons of this Country. Look I voted for Clinton, then Bush. I believe during the times those individuals were right for the JOB. What ever you blame Bush for I can blame Clinton, this can go on and on.
It is time to stop patronizing these Republicans, when they have such awful agendas for people. It doesn't matter anymore who is a Republican, when this type of crap is allowed to go on with the GOP/Republican Party. All these Republicans are corrupt, when they allow this crap to go on and continue even if they only temporary say it is bad than go back and kiss the butts of these extremists of hatred. Trash is trash there is no other way to put it.
I've seen some pretty good yellow journalism from the Obama Camp. Be a little more specific with your statement.
Come here little bronzestar doggy, time for you to stop peeing on the fire hydrants before we have to call the dog catcher to come put you in the pound.
TCinLA--- your intimidated with the truth aren't you?
Typical bagger...their idea of truth is nothing more than Ideologically Sound/Theologically Correct bullpucky.
EntropyRules--- Since your trying so hard to look intellectually smart in front of the whole world. Lets change the subject. Why did Obama face look like he dropped a load in his pants during the debates? Can you answer the question
Did bronzestar77 start telling the truth where did that happen. I must of missed it.
Deb,
Bronzehead is typically (of those on the right) averse to objective reality. His last post above is a grotesque attempt to deflect attention away from his own failings.
Deb--- You want to get in this intellectual discussion with me and Entropyrules, or what ever his name is. Throw on the table Deb.
Meanwhile, bronzehead is still throwing up all over this thread.
Wait a minute first and foremost Deb never brought up the issue of Bush or Clinton. You brought that up all on your own even though it had nothing to do with her statement. Secondly your statement in response to hers doesn't disprove her statement nor indeed does it address anything she said. The two are non-sequiturs. It's like I say I like bananas and you respond with I'm sure glad people didn't live in the Jurassic Era. The two conversations are completely unrelated. What does blaming Bush or blaming Clinton have to do with Deb talking about Republican extremism? You don't even correlate the two conversations: you just make the disjointed statement without any rationalization behind it.
You then say I've seen some pretty yellow journalism with the Obama camp in regards to Deb saying that she doesn't like how Republicans lie and say things she disagrees with. Again the two statements aren't related. What does your statement of you seeing yellow journalism have anything to do with Deb's statement? You then tell her to be more specific. More specific about what? Your comment had nothing to do with hers so to what are you wanting specifics- her comment or yours??? What would yellow journalism have to do with Republicans lying? Again you present the premise and don't follow through.
You then insult people as being unintelligent. How can you even begin to stand on the ground pointing to other people saying they're stupid when a. your comments don't seem to be correlated with the conversation at all b. your comments don't refute or address anything going on in the conversation and c. you haven't proven anything that you've asserted?
Well I guess cartonnthenews settled that and it is true.
Since China will have the world's largest economy in the not-too-distant future, something that almost certainly impresses his type of thinking no matter what, I'm sure Mr. Hubbard wouldn't mind his family being kidnapped now, taken to China, and put to work in some slave factory to eek out a barely subsistence living so that his future grandchildren will live in the ....
What a fu king asswhole.
The lesson he is referring to already happened in Egypt, why would we need another lesson on that particular event, and why would he believe we still need another lesson today. He is the one who needs to learn something here from History and that is you don't treat anyone like a slave not, even your own dog, Romney needs a few lessons about that one too.
Republican outreach to Blacks is pure fantasy. They trot out this idea every four years, but have no intention of pitching to Blacks. It would hurt them too much with the bigots who are an indispensable part of their base.
As for Hubbard's comments - his ignorance is almost beyond belief. No matter what Republicans are saying about him now, Hubbard is the kind of guy they love.
These conversations crack me up, We all know these guys don't care about Americans working, The only goal they had was to get Obama out of office. . And they claim its because of Religion, but they are backing a man now whom belongs to the Club they called the biggest threat to Christianity at one time. And maybe they are drinking his Kool Aid. because , Brigham Young was very outspoken on these matters.
“Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man mixes who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.”
Brigham Young
And the way the Church operates, we are helping old Willard reach the Celestial Heaven.... can't come soon enough if you ask me.
Has anyone checked with Egypt lately - they might be willing to accept the Israelites back into bondage.
Would this be known as the Republican None-State solution?
Do you believe Israel should be in Bondage. And this topic is in reference of Hubbard Chronicles. Is this Liberalism VALUES?
That a wingnut who never served a day in his life misappropriates the term Bronze Star is a nice demonstration of what scum you southern traitors are. We know you didn't serve because that's not what you scum do, since you're all cowards.
TCinLA--- If your trying to intimidate me good luck, but your lost for words. Your fellow showman normally will stand down and not show there true colors.
The irony of a bagger who can't express himself in passable English is mind-boggling.
EntropyRules
--- I know your trying your best to shine on this forum, it's called getting control of the situation. Do you think your doing a good job?
A) Projection B) Another pathetic attempt on his part to control things.
EntropyRules-- Na it wasn't me making any pathetic attemps toward you, you came after me.
Misrepresentation and self-pity from the worthless troll.
EntropyRules
-- Your Parts aren't working to well are they!!!
Says the worthless troll who can't express himself in even halfway decent English.
A. no you started throwing out insults before anyone else did
B. You completely misunderstood Adam's point. Adam is saying that Egypt would like to put the citizens of Israel into bondage- IE referring to slavery. And since the Republican lawmaker was defending slavery, Adam is asking does this mean that Republicans would like to see Israelis in bondage? He is obviously speaking tongue-in-cheek to point out the stupidity of the statement given by Hubbard.
C. What liberalism values? You ask the question "do you believe Israel should be in bondage" which shows right away that you did not understand Adam's jest. You then say this is about the Hubbard Chronicles and then ask "is this liberalism values?" What do liberal values have anything to do with Hubbard's Chronicles? What do liberal values have anything to do with the jest by Adam? If his joke was that he doesn't want to see Israel in bondage and that is therefore why he finds the statement by the congressman to be ironic at best, then by saying do you want to see them in bondage are you not then asserting that you DO want to see Israelis in bondage? This comment could not have been made any more confusing
Thanks for trying Cartoon -I tried to explain the joke to my dog - he didn't get it either.
The hits just keep on coming. Todd Akin, Michele Bachmann, Rand Paul, John Hubbard and more to come. I wonder how Alan West feel now. He would have to work for his citizenship. So Alan you will have do a lot of boot and a$$ kissing (which you are already doing) in order to become a citizen. The Native American is the only natural race here but you have White people such as John Hubbard and others making the rules as to who can and cannot be citizens. 21st century and if left to John Hubbard and friends there would still be slave ships coming to America.
Some wingnut earlier today said that Maddow was lying about strip clubs in Cincinnati...said w-nut claimed there were none...
Wellllllllll...not so much... I googled and discovered only around 80+ strip clubs in good ol'Cincy...
Wingers really are bubble people...and this racist idiot from Arkansas isn't surprising in the least.
Wingnut, I take it new word for Republican. Mmmm Looks like you prove those Republicans are Wingnuts, espesially when it come to strip-clubs.
PARTY FOR THE PEOPLE-- Explain to me about
Minnesota Democrat Kerry Gauthier Caught In Rest Stop Sex With 17 Year-Old
What planet have you been on, moron? Wingnut has been the term for you asswipes forever.
TCinLA---- Then you answer the question? Is it rightnut or wingnut, either way just answer the question?
Another typical worthless troll tactic...try to get people to argue about frivolous "issues".
EntropyRules
-- again speechless, nothing to say, just to say something, meaningless! ! Just trying to make PARTY FOR THE PEOPLE EXPLAIN HIMSELF. does that bother you?
Trolls (such as your worthless self) spewing verbal vomit disgust me.
EntropyRules
-- Ok Ok I give up, you win. It says in the Bible, " The First will be
Last and the Last will be First." I'll be LAST OK it's your Show. Tell Deb she can be a witness to this.
Irrelevant Bible quote.
EntropyRules---- Yes, but a very good quote, you have a great day.
Good for nothing in the context of what you have been spewing all over the thread.
Well in direct answer to the person you're referring to:
A. He wasn't caught having sex. He admitted that he had, had an affair with a person who at the time of their affair was 17
B. He admitted it publicly (it was not brought out after a scandal) and then resigned and apologized for it
C. 16 is the age of consent in Minnesota. While I personally have a problem with a middle-aged person sleeping with a 17 year old any day of the week, it isn't illegal in the state of Minnesota or at least it wasn't at the time this happened. The biggest deal then was that he slept with someone who was a staffer, but since he apologized and held himself accountable for it I'm not sure what this has anything to do with anything.
D. A Democrats sexual activity in the past (this happened in what the 80's?) has nothing to do with a person claiming that wingnuts (a common term used to refer to those on the right- FTR the left wing equivalent is "moonbat") are factually wrong when saying that Maddow incorrectly reported the number of strip clubs in Cincinnati. Your response doesn't provide a counter argument or denounce the argument made by Maddow or the commentator on this thread, so I'm assuming that means you concede that the numbers are correct. In which case this means you're employing a red herring to change the topic in an attempt to move away from the issue of falsely accusing Maddow of something to a topic you feel is more defensible (that, ironically enough, you still lied about).
