Arkansas state Rep. Jon Hubbard (R)
Arkansas state Rep. Jon Hubbard (R) thought it'd be a good idea to pull together a series of letters to the editor he's written, and then compile them in a book called "Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative." I think it's fair to say he failed to think this through.
Excerpts of Hubbard's book have started to make the rounds, offering the public a chance to learn exactly what it is that's "frustrated" this particular "conservative." For example, the Republican apparently believes slavery has received a bad rap.
"... the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth." (Pages 183-89)
African Americans must "understand that even while in the throes of slavery, their lives as Americans are likely much better than they ever would have enjoyed living in sub-Saharan Africa."
"Knowing what we know today about life on the African continent, would an existence spent in slavery have been any crueler than a life spent in sub-Saharan Africa?" (Pages 93 and 189)
Hubbard's book goes to say, among other things, school integration has been a mistake because black students have corrupted white students.
And as it turns out, Hubbard's colleague, Arkansas state Rep. Loy Mauch (R) has also written a series of letters to the editor, some of which also defended slavery. This is the same Mauch who "helped organize a 2004 conference calling for the removal of an Abraham Lincoln statue in Hot Springs, which included a keynote speech entitled 'Homage to John Wilkes Booth.'"
Arkansas GOP officials "tried to distance themselves" from the two state lawmakers over the weekend, but it's probably fair to say the Republican outreach effort to minority communities has suffered another setback.

I suppose it is easier for one to stand afar and justify the cruelty of slavery. What about the estimated 3 million slaves who were thrown overboard during the middle passage to this country? How did they benefit? The so called greatest country in the world was propelled by slave labor and the total annihilation of Native Americans. I guess those (Native Americans) who are left should be thankful for their reservations in this land of plenty. Free speech is an important virtue of this country. But, so is the right to an education. It is expected that those who take advantage of free education will avoid the "foot-in-mouth" disease.
PhiHen---- Thank you for the best statement of the day. On this forum all morning, sure allot of hate, bitterness, and down right mean. That's OK, good luck to you! And I'm a first timer.
It's no more than you richly deserve, troll.

- It just sounds like you need to take a nerve pill, think that would help?
Says the troll who has been bouncing off the walls all over this thread.
EntropyRules--- So what, I enjoy it.
Lol lol lol! Now there is a fascinating admission!
.
They want to put Woman back in the kitchen , bare foot and pregnant.
The rest of us they want to put in chains.
What? You're not Black? Do you really think race makes a difference? Really?
Oh my, the correlation that can be drawn between being a captive of The Boss Man and the Stockholm Syndrome resulting in the Right Wing wanting and willing to put themselves into chains and the Right Wingers being too dumb to know it.
And the vitriol experienced by those not of the Right Wing who are fighting the shackles of self imposed servitude.
.
This type of distorted thinking is exactly what the Communists, the Nazis, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, the Tea party, McCarthy, Mitt Romey, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Fidel Castro and host of others have used to manipulate the truth for their own devious benefit.
I never thought I'd ever say this but, thank the FSM for Nixon's "Southern Strategy"! Otherwise there's a chance this twit could have been a Democrat. As I don't doubt somewhere there's a Democrat who's racist, at least we've made it necessary to hide bigotry, and stupidity, such as this!

I normally abhor such comparisons, but saying slavery was a blessing in disguise is like saying the Holocaust was good for the Jews. (Full disclosure: I'm Jewish.) But I'm not surprised. The myth that the Civil War was not fought over slavery - the 'states rights' the Confederacy wanted to preserve was the right to own slaves (read the secession documents) - still endures in much of the South and in large parts of the GOP. It's not really surprising that there are those who regard slavery as a positive.
This is off-topic, and I can't provide a link, but in the late 1980s there was a bizarre magazine "debate" between an ultra-conservative rabbi and Sidney Hook, who at that time seemed to be conservative America's favorite atheist. The rabbi actually delivered himself of the pronouncement that the Shoah (I'm not Jewish, but I strongly believe that is the correct term) was the punishment of "G-d" because the Jews had become too secular.
This goes nationally to some degree too. Just heard Tim Griffin (AR 02; Karl Rove's bud) radio commercial saying that Obama spends $1 billion of taxpayer dollars to buy cell phones for "poor" (meaning black of course!) people. Right in the heart of Little Rock at 7:45 this morning on the sport talk radio. Completely a lie! (http://www.factcheck.org/2009/10/the-obama-phone/)

If turnabout is fair play?
Jon Hubbard, should against will give up his comfortable existence, and be shackled and locked in darken hold of a wooded ship to Africa. Upon arriving here be auctioned, and worked to near death, starved and beaten for stupidity. Then after a generation, be offered freedom to fight for the next 150 years to gain dignity and to be rewarded with 'Africa' Citizenship. There upon, he can be ghettoized, given as little education as possible, and told to rise himself up and accept Voter Suppression, until after a Supreme Court, as ruled after the election of his vote was valid. Then after being subject to centuries of latent hatred, then to show his wise choice of slavery, be asked to pay the bill for his transportation to Africa.
If the so called white humans in these raciest of states, is to reconsidered for re-entry into the civilized world, then they need to travel the same path, and walk in the same shoes, and suffer the same centuries of fate, all this and more needs to be taught not by their religion, but by the same leather strap of forgiveness. It called the strap of forgiveness since otherwise it would be certain death.
If turnabout is fail play then all must play fair?
My father was a stupid racist. My children aren't. Why is this still a thing?
