Deb Butler is running for state senate in North Carolina against incumbent Republican Thom Goolsby, who voted for a bill requiring women seeking abortion services to undergo an ultrasound and wait 24 hours. "This is Goolsby's contribution to women's health," she says, presenting a transvaginal probe to the camera.

Up the Republic!
I'm outta here before I go even further south.
Not that we really needed to see that, but okay...let's go with it. Yeah!!!
Actually, we did need to see that, but only because Goolsby and so many other Republican legislators decided to tag along into doctors' offices with women.
Seeing it is what makes this such a strong and gutsy ad. - No one should be forced to have to FEEL it when visiting their doctor to make difficult and personal decisions that Goolsby and others like him have NO business getting in the middle of in the first place!
No doubt the opposition will fire back that this ad isn't very lady-like. To those people I have a two-word rebuttal: penis envy.
So North Carolina Republicans are like Republicans everywhere. They want to follow us all into the bedroom and into our doctor's office and dictate what happens there. However, according to PEW women don't care; I guess they are all cool with that.
If you can read this, your government is too close.
(Does anyone know of a poster of one of those? If not, it sounds like a great fundraiser.)
@DC actually it should be a poster with a vaginal probe and the wording should say:
If you have to go thru this, your government is too close!
It would be more enlightening to have the stats for this race and see if this ad is catching on with voters. I suspect it will make women pause before they vote for the Republican. This is a big issue if Dems can capitalize on it. That is how Dem women running for the Senate are making headway with voters. And that is the way any Dem can make inroads even in solid Republican districts.
And there has to be more of this, especially in turnable red districts in purple-to-blue states.
The Dems need to use it in all districts, including the really safe red ones. It won't necessarily win a race, but it will show the potency of the issue. And that will make Republicans nervous and afraid to advocate more of these extreme positions.
I am fortunate enough to live in Deb Butler's district. She is an intelligent, savvy, woman, who works tirelessly for "everyday" people. Deb supports education for ALL-not budget cuts, sustainable job creation -we live on the coast/Cape Fear River, and stands firm for women's rights!
As for Deb's opponent - He stands for none of these ideals.
Perhaps someone should offer one of these to Renee Ellmers. She could keep it on her desk in Washington.
Nice ad. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat, if I had to live there!
I am very lucky to be in Deb's district and very proud to be supporting such a strong, smart, savvy, hard-working woman! Her opponent rode in on the Tea Party coattails in '10 and we can't wait to see him booted out in 2012! Go Deb!!
Now we know exactly how big, Big Government really is.
Wow, that brings to mind this petition for bill of reproductive rights.
