Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In light of Mitt Romney's reversals yesterday on reproductive rights, this new Planned Parenthood ad is especially well timed. It's set to air in Colorado and Virginia.
* In Ohio, the new NBC/WSJ/Marist poll shows President Obama leading Romney by six, 51% to 45%.
* In Florida, the NBC/WSJ/Marist poll puts Obama's lead at just one point, 47% to 46%, though a University of North Florida poll, conducted a few days before and a few days after last week's debate, shows the president ahead by four, 49% to 45%.
* In Virginia, NBC/WSJ/Marist has Romney taking a one-point lead, 48% to 47%, but a CBS/NYT/Quinnipiac poll shows Obama up by five, 51% to 46%.
* In Wisconsin, the CBS/NYT/Quinnipiac poll shows Obama leading by three, 50% to 47%.
* In Nevada, Public Policy Polling shows the president ahead by four, 51% to 47%, while a Suffolk poll shows Obama ahead by two, 47% to 45%.
* In Pennsylvania, the latest Philadelphia Inquirer poll shows Obama up by eight, 50% to 42%.
* In national polling, Fox News shows Romney taking a one-point lead, 46% to 45%, while a YouGov/Economist poll has Obama up by three, 49% to 46%.
* In Senate race polling, Dean Heller (R) is up by three in Nevada; Bill Nelson (D) is ahead by 13 in Florida; Sherrod Brown (D) is leading by 11 in Ohio; Tim Kaine (D) is up by six in Virginia; and Tammy Baldwin is ahead by just two points in Wisconsin.
* And the more former Gov. Charlie Crist (I) endorses Democrats in Florida, the more likely it appears he'll run for governor as a Dem in 2014.

At least the Senate polls look favorable. Obama should be leading Rmoney by 16 in Ohio, but it's not a surprise in that the state's 4th century inhabitants would vote to seal their own economic depression for a further 20 years.. Ohio, the heart of it al.. ahem, the heart of darkness? The heart of the 4th century?
Why do these people vote against their own interest. Mindboggling !!!!
I don't necessarily have a problem with people voting against their own interests if they think it is for the greater good. For example, I would be happy to see my own taxes go up so long as everyone more prosperous than myself saw their taxes go up as well and the revenue went for things that I thought would be good for America. That said, the people I despise are the ignorant peasants who have been conditioned to literally worship those who are much wealthier than themselves and who vote to impoverish their own children and grandchildren in order to lavish greater benefits on the nobility that will be ruling over them.
hey now...i live in ohio...
for what it's worth national journal notes: "Part of Obama's advantage in Ohio is built from voters who have already cast their ballots or say they will before Election Day. Obama leads among the 35 percent of self-reported early voters, 60 percent to 38 percent, according to Marist polling."
we don't live a 4th century style here in Ohio. You must be from Michigan, the home of twit robme.
It is probably not a good idea to try to pin much about the budget on Ryan in the debate. He will say that Mitt is the leader of the party and policy maker. His voting record on women's rights and the ACA are etched in stone so he can not squirm out of those.
Ask lyin ryan about the 33 bills he co-authored in Congress about " legitimate" rape , "redefining" rape', and " forcible" rape. Let him explain his positions ( other than missionary). I have a daughter, this smarmy sleaze will not be making policy or rules that harm her or her friends (30 yr olds). We fought the rape bills and rape laws 40 yrs ago. WHY are we still fighting them? Why does he insist on telling women what they can and can not do? ( one look at him, gives me a big clue ). Why is it up to the RETHUGS to control women's reproductive health or for that matter, their general health?
Hey Steve, please bring up the email that the head of Westgate Resorts, David Siegel, sent to his employees telling them that if Obama wins and raises his taxes, that he might have to fire some or all of them. . Despicable.
This, despite the fact that Siegel's company is "The most profitable Timeshare Company in History". He, and many others, sound like a bunch of screaming toddlers.........
ok, I almost never post links in comments section. But this one has me sputtering.

Really? On what planet, Mitt?
Thank you for the link. I posted it to my wall. It's disgusting!
What a douchbag, speaking out of his ass. My own father died of cancer because he didn't have insurance. He clearly stated in his death bed that he is refusing treatment because he didn't want to burden my family with debt. I guess being isolated among the 1% doesn't give him much of a chance to see people die of not having enough money.
Freedom Stiffness?..
If Romney is elected..then who will be president?
Exactly......everyone is complaining about having no specific info from Romney on how he is going to do what he says........it's very simple to understand for me.....when the filthy rich buy the presidency for you.....you don't know what they are going to "allow" or "make" you do, so you can't give specifics until the markers are called in...... Just one horrible fact to deal with when you sign a pact with the devil!!!!! And we are all gonna be at the filthy rich's mercy if he gets in.......just sayin.
They won't tell you what they will do. If they, stumble up, and win. But they can tell you what you should do with your vagina. If they do (win) I'm moving to the Gran Caymen Islands or Switzerland.
It looks like Romney, doesn't care about any woman. Let's face it even if your are against Roe and wade, not all women go to Plan Parenthood for the same reason. I remember having to go there for check ups because I couldn't afford the reg Doctor's. His mother and His wife are probably very domineering, In my many of years I have been a live, If A man treats women like this, he feels he as too, so he can get back at women, so he feels more like a man..Poor Fool, try standing up to the women in your life instead of taking it out on the rest of the sex.
Is this the ROMNEY - RYAN solution to broader Tax base
SAVE THOSE PANTS AND THEY MIGHT COME BACK INTO STYLE:KNICKERBOCKERS
Reagan's TAX POLICIES did, however, REDISTRIBUTE
the TAX BURDEN significantly, even if they failed to reduce it overall.
By cutting income taxes, which are paid at a higher rate by the WEALTHY.
while increasing payroll taxes, which are paid at a higher rate by the working
poor and middle class,
Reagan shifted the tax burden down the income scale.
During the 1980s, the total effective federal TAXATION RATE forthe POOREST
ONE-FIFTH of AMERICAN families actually INCREASED by MORE THAN 16%.
By CONTAST, the effective taxation rate for the WEALTHEST ONE-FIFTH
of families FELL by 5.5%,
and the
RICHEST ONE PERCENT 1% of AMERICANS SAVED EVEN MORE:
their TAX RATE FELL by 14.4%.
oh no Obamascare:

in additional polling
the two national trackers have different results...gallup has obama down one while rasmussen has obama up one [not a misprint]
and a detroit news michigan poll was obama up 7, 49-42
Why isn't there more coverage and attention paid to the Senate race in Indiana? Joe Donnelly is running hard against Tea Party favorite and anti - bipartisan Republican Mourdock.
Rachel,
It just amaze's me that this election has brought out the dumbest segment of our society but then again that may be a good thing because maybe then we can put "Them" on notice to "Catch up" with the rest if the human race and move forward instead of being "Anchored' in all of our past political dogmas and controlled belief systems or mindsets.
The part that bothers me the most is "This segment of our society" has forgotten the basic reasons for choosing a candidate.
Let me know if you agree,,,
First and foremost a candidate should and must be "Honest". I think we can rule that out with Romney and Ryan because not only are they both lairs they are bigots and segregationist.
The Second trait or quality they should posses is "Truthfulness". Again, we can rule Romney and Ryan out because they lie and are controlled by their distorted belief system(s) along with that segment of our society that actually agree with them.
The Third quality that I believe they should posses is "Humbleness". There again, Romney and especially Ryan don't know the meaning of this trait and will never understand that trait because both of them consider themselves "Above" all "The People" (except for that one percent) who got that way from the labors of Blood, Sweat, and Tears of the people who labored their lives away as their slaves and put them there.
All and all, this election choice should not be a complicated one and the choice should be for a candidate that "Serves" us all and not "Their personal" interests, belief system(s), or prejudicial and bigotry choices. This "Means" that any candidate should be "Colorless" "Honest", Truthful", and "Humble" and especially devoid of any prejudices, bigotry, hatreds or all of the other demented traits associated with some of our elected officials who have wormed themselves into our political arena.
If we as a culture boost about how our society is honest, truthful and humble then we really need to redefine ourselves to adhere to those (and more) good qualities or traits because as long as there are individuals (in our government) who still control these segments of society then we as a culture will "Never" evolve to the next level of intelligence and will again be anchored in our political quicksand.
I have already "Moved on". r
Use the polls and whatever happens in the upcoming debates to motivate us instead of panicking, which is all people here if you are panicking, we need to get serious and continue to speak with conviction about what each and every one of us will personally lose if we don't reelect Pres. Obama. Bring it down to mainstreet and tell people how women will once again have to pay higher health care premiums then men. Women will lose the protections of equal pay for equal work. Are children will bear the deficit burden of tax cuts for the wealthy that once again a Republican Pres. is proposing without telling us how he will pay for it.
Will someone please take note that the pollsters are doing an Obama/Romney matchup and not including Libertarian Johnson or Constitution Goode which will both take votes away from Romney. Most of the Paulbots went to Johnson. Put Johnson and Goode in Battleground states for polling and you will see Romney go down. Not to mention national polling is worthless as we vote by states not nationwide and this year they are oversampling the SE part of the Country.
I would love to see Rachel address the issue of the Catholic Church as propanda machine for the Republican Party. My address was given by my parish to a 527 group called Catholics For Ohio who sent me a nice flyer accusing President Obama of destroying religious freedom. Although it states that it is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee, it has Republican stuff all over its website. As a Catholic and a liberal, I am sickened by the way conservatives have hijacked my church. There is a separation of church and state for a reason and these people just don't get it. I have seen parishes sign people up to vote in September, rail against abortion in October, and then allow people to put "vote our values" Republican flyers on our windshields. Is this legal?
Amen! “Values Voters” is a term that attempts to delineate that there are those who have values and those who don't. Everyone who even puts a little bit of thought into their positions does so by considering their values. I too would love to see Rachel and others start speaking to how democratic values also line up with some pretty universal religious values, including Catholicism. We are responsible for the care of the environment we are all gifted with. We should lift up the least among us so all of us prosper. We have a duty to the sickest among us because healthcare is not an individual responsibility, unless you can operate on yourself, so the best healthcare system is one for everyone, by everyone or Medicare for all. Peace, prosperity and freedom are what drive every soldier to put their lives on the line for us, so we have a duty to elect leaders who understand a strong military depends on a smart national security strategy that does not uselessly overextend our precious troops. “Thou shall not judge…” also applies to love, which is a deeply personal experience that no one else, especially the government, can determine for someone else. I could continue on but for the purposes of this election and the future I hope, like you, Democrats are as righteous about our values as Republicans are. Speaking of this election, we should be continually bringing up the letter to Congress from the Catholic Health Association of the United States and 43 different organizations of Catholic Nuns supporting Obama care by saying, “For us, this healthcare reform is a faith mandate for life and dignity of all of our people.” Last but not least, everyone should be talking about the four letters to Congress from the Catholic Conference of Bishops in strong opposition to the Republican budget written by Paul Ryan that Mitt Romney's budget is based on. They call for “a circle of protection … around essential programs that serve poor and vulnerable people.” The bishops declared that “deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility efforts must protect and not undermine the needs of poor and vulnerable people… the proposed cuts to programs in the budget reconciliation bill fail this basic moral test.” If you can't tell, I'm with you on this one libgal.
Romney in Asheville, NC speech talks about a special American flag (owned by the Boy Scouts) that was blown up on the Space Shuttle. I couldn't believe it - I was shocked by his lack of taste. Absolutely shameful.
Hey Joe, KICK HIM IN THE BALLS AGAIN !!!! Great job
