The award for the year's most satisfying political smackdown goes to Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who, in this video, defends Speaker Peter Slipper from ouster by the Opposition after being caught sending salacious text messages. A fiery Prime Minister Gillard countered that it's Opposition Leader Tony Abbott who is the real misogynist in this story and then proceeded to let him have it for 15 glorious minutes -- to his face.
Her attempt to save him failed, however, as an embarrassed Slipper later resigned, but what an attempt. For those who can't play video here are some highlights:
“I say to the Leader of the Opposition I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man [Abbott]. I will not. And the Government will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. Not now, not ever.”
...
Because if he wants to know misogyny looks like in modern Australia He doesn't need a motion in the House of representatives, he needs a mirror. .....I was offended too by the sexism, by the misogyny of the Leader of the Opposition catcalling across this table at me as I sit here as Prime Minister, 'If the Prime Minister wants to, politically speaking, make an honest woman of herself ... ' -- something that would never have been said to any man sitting in this chair."
...
"I was offended when the Leader of the Opposition went outside in the front of Parliament and stood next to a sign that said 'Ditch the witch.' I was offended when the Leader of the Opposition stood next to a sign that described me as a man's b***h. I was offended by those things. Misogyny, sexism, every day from this Leader of the Opposition.”
And that's just a taste. Reports the International Business Times: "During her lengthy harangue, Gillard noticed that Abbott was apparently distracted by something, leading her to sneer that he was "now looking at his watch because apparently a woman's spoken too long."
For everyone Stateside who's fed up with "legitimate rape," Governor Ultrasound and the seemingly nonstop assault on women's rights, it wasn't nearly long enough.

Wow. Awesome. How cool was that?
And is it just me or is it difficult to hear her clearly.
I know my hearing sucks and it's not the volume it's the tone that I struggled with.
Anyone.? And thanks.
I heard her just fine - and Im a man!
The English Language Lives!
Has anyone realised that the person-hood amendment means that every miscarriage has to be investigated as a death and possible crime. All pregnancy tests will have to be registered so that if the person does not give birth it can be investigated as to whether there was foul play.
All women of childbearing age will be under constant government scrutiny to see if they are committing murder.
Are those statements included in the amendment or are you suggesting those could be unintended consequences?
A person dies there is an investigation, even in a hospital. If a foetus is a person, you know it exists because of pregnancy tests, if the woman does not give birth then it is dead. If it is dead, it has to be investigated. This means the police will have to watch all women and monitor pregnancy tests. Possibly the sale of "feminine supplies." This is a direct consequence.
It is the same as if animals rights people made animals people. Every squirrel hit by a car would have to be investigated by police the same as if a person was killed.
Now do these people intend for these investigations to happen. I do not know, I do not think either group thinks clearly enough to see that far ahead. Though agents of the DEA have been recorded talking on an independent DEA grips web site about making birth control illegal being their growth industry to keep them in work and give them more people to assault.
These are not clear thinking people they just are people who want to control other humans.
Imagine how much this would cost. It would increase the cost of gevernment in this

Woohoo! Go Prime Minister Gillard! Golly she's terrific. I love how Tony Abbott's initial sneer when she started speaking dissolved into a frown...
Not long enough is right! Hear, hear!
Warren: Brown had 'exactly one chance'

Stick to your guns, Scott

Don’t let up on the fake Indian, Scott.
Is she going to stop mentioning that you’re a Republican? Of course not. So why would you choose to unilaterally disarm?
They want you to be “gentler”? Ask your friend John McCain how gentle worked out for him.
Since she began checking the box, Granny Warren’s life is a testament to the truth of Sir Walter Scott’s immortal line: “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.”
She’s always backpedaling, covering up her tracks, trying to explain away some hole in last week’s explanation that has since been rendered inoperative by a new inconvenient truth.
You needn’t keep banging away on her fake-Indian problem. She keeps digging that hole deeper and deeper herself. This week’s TV spot about her parents’ so-called elopement — she’s throwing her own paternal grandparents under the bus as racists. Isn’t family lore great?
One thing I would bring up again is the $750,000 paycheck she and her husband collect from Harvard Law. That really hit home in Jon Keller’s debate. Everybody has high tuition bills to pay. People were talking about that revelation for days afterwards.
The no-interest $50,000 loan from Harvard also is worth revisiting. This is a woman who has led an incredibly privileged life, post-checking the box. For example, she and her daughter — the second-generation moonbat who got the state to send out voter-registration forms to all welfare recipients, including illegal aliens — wrote a book in 2005 entitled “All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan.”
Check out the Amazon reviews. Certain words recur: “simplistic” and “fairytale.” As one reader put it: “I doubt the authors have any real experience in the real world.”
I was surprised in the first debate that she didn’t mention her baby, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. You should be ready for it, though, Scott. Just read the Wall Street Journal op-ed by a Texas congressman that ran Sept. 19.
A few highlights of the story: The CFPB budget is $447 million; about 60 percent of the 958 employees make over $100,000 a year; the director’s secretary gets $165,139; they print documents in 187 languages ... this is Granny’s greatest achievement, another out-of-control, do-nothing bureaucracy full of otherwise unemployable lawyers. And you can bet it’ll protect consumers just about as effectively as the SEC shielded investors from Bernie Madoff over the decades.
No need to ask her again to release her law school employment applications. She can’t, obviously, or her campaign is over. So hit her on yet another of her stonewalls — she won’t give up the list of millionaires and billionaires she’s been consulting for, even though she’s required to report them all to Harvard Law School.
As The Wall Street Journal said yesterday, voters need to know who else she’s been working for besides LTV Steel and Travelers Insurance so they “can decide for themselves if she’s really a handmaid to the plutocrats disguised as Robin Hood through November 6.”
One last thing: If she brings up Sen. Jim Inhofe again, tell her if she’s really worried about him she ought to think about running against him. In her home state of Oklahoma.

I would like to see more US women politicians with this woman's courage to speak her mind.
Can you imagine Michelle Bachmann speaking like this? Me neither...
If someone like Gillibrand did something like this, the issue would be her "intemperance," and not the fact that the guy was a sexist @!$%#.
Wow. I wonder if the Right Honorable Opposition Leader has any "family jewels" left after that. This should go into the history books as the definition of "righteous smackdown. Speak sister! Awesome.
After 4 LONG years in office, all Biden can do is smile the fake smile with his old fake teeth.
Stay classy there, you hillbilly dumbass. Nobody in your family has teeth - real or false. Too bad my ancestors didn't kill a few more of yours when they were hiking through your former prison colony.
An authentic example a true class. Hate and crazy talk typical of a liberal fascist.
Glad the folks in Georgia saw the same VP Biden I did. Snark ridden, smarmy and dismissively arrogant. A real loser only a "loser" could admire.
Somebody is NOT telling the TRUTH about Benghazi. I think it's the Obama Administration and VP Biden proved that last night. Joe Biden just became this generation's Spiro Agnew!
Yes, stay Classy Mike. I agree with You. Yours IS the true class act. Thank You for your contribution.
Step aside, OLD MAN.
Can anyone seriously watch Biden tonight? Wow, so tired. Ryan represents the next generation, Biden represents the ancient past.
Rachel.....why in the HELL is your top story about Australia when a Vice Presidential debate is underway? Smilin' Joe ain't cutting it tonight. Ryan leads the pack.
Thanks for the demonstration of what the term "southern dumbass" means, you Confederate traitor, but we've now had enough of your Southern-fried dumbassery.
Thanks Mike from Georgia for articulating the misogynist face of the Republican party!
I'm in love with this woman!
And as awesome as this is, I feel like an ass for thinking "She looks amazing!" I'm a sucker for a redhead.
Havent been able to watch the video yet, but it sounds like a good relief after it being suggested that her father had died of shame. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/opinion/political-news/died-of-shame-focus-on-abbotts-use-of-controversial-phrase-20121010-27cgd.html
VP Biden the obvious winner if you are in the middle class or below. Congressman Ryan the clear winner if you earn a Million or more per year, if you're a religious fundamentalist, someone who thinks women are less than men, or if you believe in sending more jobs overseas so big corp can optimize profits. Ryan still won't give details because he knows it will cost the Romney/Ryan ticket votes is a big way. The details he gives are "general" and not "specific."
VP Biden the clear winner if you are middle class or below. Congressman Ryan the clear winner if you earn a million dollars a year or more and pretend you can't do the math on his extreme budget cuts and what they will extract from the middle class in order to give millionaires more tax breaks so wealth can trickle down a few pennies at a time ... a reverse Robin Hood budget plan.
Does anyone think it is odd that another Country is going through what we're going through, as far as the effort to demoralize women. No way in hell is this a coincidence, the Corporate disease is flowing throughout the hemisphere, I thought I smelled something.Fe Fi Fo Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.
What country is Rupert Murdoch from? Oh that's right Australia. Of course he got a republican to fast track his American citizenship so he could buy American media networks.
Sure wouldn't want to be this guy when his wife sayes" let me tell you about my day at work and how was yours" He most likely excused himself so he could pick up some milk. Bet, The dairy sure seemed to be closer than it use to. Momma isn't happy isn't noboby going to be happy. She brought the A game and servered A burgers on tghe barbie.
She is truly incredible. I wish we had more politicians like her in the U.S.
Thank you so much for this, Rachel. This is awesome. I can't even imagine a female political leader in the US getting to say what's really on her/our mind, like she did. Fantastic! Perhaps some day we will get this much Freedom of Speech! Way to go Aussies!
