If you're not near a television right now, you can still watch MSNBC's live feed of the debate between Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan right here. You can also use the comments section to weigh in with your take before, during, and after the big event.
Update: I'd originally posted a live feed, but now that the debate's over, I've swapped it out for the full, start-to-finish video of the debate.

when are the republicans going to stop lying, side-steppimg questions and finally give an answer to the actual questions.
When the sun swells into a red giant and swallows the Earth?
Wow. Romney odds taking a dive on intrade.
VP Joe Biden kicked butt !
Congressworm Pinocchio Ryan lied his arse off as usual !
Benjamin . . . When media professionals stop accepting those lies and flip flops and begin acting like investigative journalists. When they stop allowing spin and start caring enough about their craft to follow up obviously ridiculous answers to their original questions.
And when we all start demanding that they tell the truth and force them to defend their positions with those things we like to call "facts."
In other words, probably not anytime soon.
I don't get the Ryan debate prep. That story about Romney being sympathetic with a family struggling in the aftermath of a tragic traffic accident-- due to the length of it, it had to be prepped in advance, but what were they thinking?
It baffled me. Was Ryan just going off script?
What this debate CLEARLY showed was how much Americans ALL Americans dislike the smug Ryan. He is ill prepared un specific out classed and simply out of his league. ; ]
It will once again in the morning remind America why they to dislike Mr. Romney. ;]
Cheers
Cheers!
Also I MUST point out Vice President Bidens experience as far as technicalities rules and regulations of debate rules. He knows what he can do when and how. ;]
Cheers
Cheers!
Mr. Ryan is pathetic. Mr. Romney did himself a favor in his debate Mr. Ryan did not. He used many many words to talk in circles and say NOTHING. He was and still is unable to use specifics he loved to talk "stories" and how to reminisce but talking in reminiscing circles doesn't give concrete a foundation of fact and policy.
Cheers
Cheers!
Last tonight is anyone else disturbed at Mr. Ryans forgetting of the question by the moderator about what a decorated soldier asked? What the heck was he trying to say there? ; ]
Cheers
Cheers!
To John, I perceived it the same way that you did, that one story of Ryan's showed how phoney and plastic him and Mittens are. He told this story as if it were the only time it happened. In my head I'm thinking that Romney probably staged the whole event and filmed it for future reference when he needed it for his campaign, like something Will Farrell would do in his movie, The Candidate.
The folks in the R camp are actors and the surrogates just want to praise the act.
Yet those in the D camp are impressed with truthfulness and accuracy.
I noticed the people in the crowd being asked on Hardball, the folks that said they were voting for Obama expressed their reasoning in a concise manner, while those voting for Rmoney were just slinging words like Communism and Freedom, just vague.
I wonder which version of Paul Ryan will show up tonight.
sorry Racheal, but watching the dabate with all the side chatter is like watching Morning Joe just to hear Willie Gist or Mika B.
From WI: I think you're all inexplicably over-estimating Paul Ryan. He has, indeed, worked to create a certain image as intelligent, a "policy wonk," etc. Paul Ryan, a product of privilege who has shown his contempt for the non-rich, is a standard political reactionary, an extremist "with a Grand Vision," arguably a sociopath. He might look like Eddie Munster, but there is nothing funny about him. His contempt for "the little people" makes him entirely unsuited for public office.
Lets get it on Big Joe!!!!
Finally I get to watch you guys narrate, couldn't get it for debates or convention :(
I hope this weeks moderator doesn't have Alzheimer's.
How can PBS appoint someone to moderate a debate that can't manage to do any math or history?
Money has to come from somewhere, and Romney claims this will come from spending cuts. Budget cuts are called austerity, which works like this:
Romney says he can't tell anyone what he wants to cut because "it's complicated".
It's not complicated.
It's a lie.
Romney collapsed the Massachusetts economy using the same kind of lies.
Romney destroyed Massachusetts economy so bad that unemployment went from #37 to #47 because he has no idea what government does (click here for reference).
Romney made Massachusetts unemployment better by making unemployed residents flee the state after he cut off unemployment benefits that they paid for (click here for reference).
Let us remember this is a contest between not just two candidates, but two parties.
One party says tax cuts for the wealthy pay for themselves. One party says the Bush Tax cuts create jobs for Americans. Of course, that's not true, because (1) Those tax cuts are in effect right now, and have been in effect for over two presidential administrations. Not only did they not create jobs, they have fed an investment trend that directly undermines American jobs by investing in China and the far east. (2) Government debt under these tax cuts has increased massively. Obviously the tax cuts DID NOT pay for themselves. They never have, and they never will.
When it comes to details on those tax cuts and the budget, one party simply refuses to produce specifics for it's plan. "Trust us", they say. They also said that when they claimed Iraq had WMD to justify their war. How soon we forget.
One party says we need a bigger, larger military. Even larger than what we have right now. One party thinks we can solve any foreign policy problem with bigger guns.
One party says Obama's health care reforms are a disaster and are harming Americans. Oddly those reforms were largely based on a republiucan plan put forth as an alternative to "Hillycare" back when Bill Clinton was presidcent. The primary difference was Hillycare proposed an employer mandate to cover all employees, while the republican plan proposed an individual mandate to accomplish universal coverage. Now the same people who designed these reforms stand vehemently AGAINST them. Why? Well... -basically because Obama said yes to their idea.
One party has operated in Congress and the Senate to completely obstruct all reforms president Obama has attempted. Their policy has been absolute scorched earth and poisoned water. No compromise. Their intent was to deny and prevent Obama from accomplishing anything, even if some Americans suffered or died as a result of that obstructionism. Their leaders stated publically that their number one priority was to make Obama a one-term president, and by doing so they would kill all of the progressive ideas Obama was elected on, -once and for all.
One party claims we should protect America's "national interests" by going around the UN to topple the Assad government in Syria with military force (much like the western-backed toppling of many other Arab states in the mid east). That sounds to me more like it is in Israel's interests than our own. No American needs to die for questionable wars on the other side of the world that accomplish nothing. No more American tax dollars for those wars either.
the moderator said 'congressman'. I had heard she wasn't supposed to do that.
Am I the first on here?
EDIT: No.. I'm the 9th
omg do I want to wipe that smug smirk off ryan's face
Ryan: “These pretzels are making me thirsty.”
I have never seen someone drink so much water during a debate.
Ryan had to drink water to stop the flames from coming out of his ears.
joe needs to quit laughing
Liars are funny.
Joe sure does have the giggles tonight.
I'm not an expert on international law, but...
can we really attack a sovereign nation because we don't like their weapons capability?
only if you are a neocon
Yes. We can in fact attack a country because we don't like their weapons capability, or the hair cut of the average joe on the street there, or simply because it's Tuesday. We can attack and declare war on any country we wish so long as Congress passes a bill appropriating funds that can be spent on the attack and/or declares war. And that is because the US Constitution invests those powers in the US Executive and Legislative branches and states that those powers and authorities can not be delegated or abdicated.
As far as the "International Law" thing goes, it like all laws is only valid if it can be enforced. And International Law as it stands now can not be enforced. No matter what's going on in the world someone on the UN Security Council, the only body that has the actual authority to even make half hearted attempts to enforce International Law, will always Veto the enforcement action. The so called "International Courts" (and even the War Crimes Court in The Hauge) have no power to enforce their rulings without the approval of the UN Security Council.
This does not stop individual countries from adopting or accepting rulings or measures from these bodies, but doing so without a UN Secruity Council could be a violation of an existing treaty or a violation of "International Law" in and of itself.
Mostly spot-on but most recently the UNSC has approved enforcement actions in Kosovo, East Timor and to eject Iraqi forces from Kuwait.
And then-Sec. Gen. Kofi Annan has said that in his opinion Pres. GW Bush's war in Iraq was "illegal" as it defied a prior resolution that called for a second resolution in the event Iraq was seen in gross violation of sanctions and inspections.
Hey, I remember you, Paul -- you were the kid down the block who was always right, even when you were wrong -- a real bully. So you've grown up and haven't changed a bit . . .
Amen!!! Tell it , Joe.
Joe is doing well. He should watch the sarcastic chuckling, but he's staying on point well and doesn't look nervous. Ryan looks real nervous. Watch the chuckling, Joe.
Well, there's a lot to laugh at.
Ryan just tried to make out that unemployment nationally is around 10%! Wow!
Ryan lost that exchange very badly...Ryan should have said there are too many communities, too many sub groups of Americans, where unemployment is still way too high...but he didn't and VP Joe jumped. Kudos to him.
I actually agree with you. Instead of doing what you said he should, Ryan sloppily tried to extrapolate one locality to the entire country. And this is the GOP's numbers guy.
UGh! I can't listen to another insincere family story told by Ryan or Romney. It is so obvious they do it for effect. The problem is they lack the emotion and feeling those kind of stories need to make them effective. Ick!
Of course, everything they say is for effect. VP Biden recounted his personal loss (which I can't imagine the struggle) but he did it for effect.
Duh! However some can pull it off because they genuinely feel what they are saying while others just robotically state it. Advisors told Romney and Ryan to "insert story here" and it shows.
VP Biden did not bring bring up his personal loss for effect. Ryan did that with a Romney personal loss - not his own. Biden had a response, a personal repsonse about a personal loss and one that was genuine.
No one can get a sociopath to tell the truth. Even if you showed them an actual recording of what they did, they will deny it was them or they will say it was altered. They are incapable of redacting statements which prove false. How on earth would we be able to converse with other world leaders with men like R & R running things? I feel it would lead to a total breakdown with first world leaders. The world is watching what goes on in America. I am quite sure that the top European leaders and the leaders of other US allies are as nervous as many as of are that there would be no more trust between our nations.
I wish the mod would ask ryan about ayn rand
Joe is speaking so straightforwardly and from the heart, and he's not forgetting to stay on point. Look at Ryan's expression--at his eyes. He knows he's BSing.
I'm TOO nervous to watch live so I'm on here and semi-listening to CSPAN. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would believe in these two jokers enough to vote for them! Surely a puzzle to me!
oh I know what you mean!!
ditto. i cannot bare to watch....too nervous and I get upset when the GOP ticket begins to shape-shift on national TV and the uneducated can't tell a lie from their "standard' "original" platform(s), we never know what we are getting!
I know what you mean....first debate with President O and the tool Romney...watched about 10 min. & saw the train wreck coming...had to get the wine bottle, switch channels. Tonight I am a bundle of nerves, can't watch full time, flip back & forth with "Shutter Island" who knew a psychological thriller is more calming than the debate. Every time I flip to debate and I see that insipid, condescending, bemused expression on Ryan...I want to leap through the tv to slap it off his face. Can't wait to hear Rachel and the gang's analysis. Keeping my fingers crossed and saying novenas that Joe scores.
I have been thinking the same thing. Those who watched only the first debate and never paid any attention prior to that would not know that Romney was shape shifting yet again.
tha finland thing by ryan was a proven lie
the fact checkers will be on overtime tonight!!
Personally I like joe's amusement. It sends the message that what Ryan is saying is BS
His amusement is dying down over the course of the debate. He's hitting on the seriousness of the GOP's policy preferences, so there's less to smile about. The longer this goes on, the more obvious it gets that Ryan is regurgitating talking points. So is Biden, but Biden comes across with far more sincerity and credibility.
Wow, Monk, we are on the same wave length tonight (sorry). I agree, had Biden losing the laughing has made him more engaged and sincere. I'm afraid he's eating Ryan's lunch. There's been a couple of hiccups but he's much better on the attack. (And Ryan does seem to be repeating points instead of restating them in different ways/context. Poor performance.)
Looks like the momentum will turn back towards the President.
(Hope all my friendly enemies here read this.)
