Former President Bill Clinton was in Ohio this morning, campaigning for President Obama, and reflected on this week's debate. Clinton mentioned the voter who said he'd supported Obama in 2008, but added he's not as optimistic as he was four years ago.
Clinton told Ohioans, "I thought he was going to cry because he knows that it's not fixed." The Romney campaign seems to think that's wildly important, distributing the clip of the comment, and issuing a statement that reads in part, "We agree with former President Bill Clinton. The economy has not been fixed under President Barack Obama."
The year-long effort on Team Romney's part to build up Clinton's credibility continues to amaze me.
The Romney campaign is excited about Clinton conceding that Obama has not finished fixing all the problems he inherited from his Republican predecessor. Of course, this isn't exactly groundbreaking -- Obama says this all the time -- and as Romney himself has conceded many times, the economy has improved since the president took office.
But notwithstanding the few seconds Romney enjoyed, take a look at what else Clinton says in the clip about Mitt Romney: "He thinks we're dumb."
"This guy ran Bain Capital and is a business guy, and he's hiding his budget? That ought to tell you something. Well, he's hiding his taxes, too, but he's hiding his taxes in the years when he earned ordinary income. He's given us two years when he was just running for president. And, he's hiding whether he would have signed the Lilly Ledbetter act. He's hiding everything. He doesn't want you to think about him. He wants you to think, 'Oh this economy is terrible. I'm a jobs guy.' And as President Obama said in the debate, if I brought you a deal to Bain Capital and I said, fund my new business, I'll give you the budget sometime in the future, just trust me on that, you wouldn't give me one red cent, and we should not give him one vote on that."
Romney keeps elevating Clinton, giving him unrivaled credibility and stature, as a way of positioning him as the good Democrat, and Clinton keeps explaining to people that Romney does not deserve and has not earned their support.

Boy, does he have perfect pitch; he taps into the simmering resentment of the lower middle class such that they believe he is one of them and speaks for them to them.
Bush had a knack for this also that is under appreciated and was a key to him successfully hiding his boarding school roots.
not exactly. bills education about people is to understand relationships, accept people, and accept yourself AS one of them. its not a pretense or a put on. its a reality of humbleness, humility, modesty, and appreciation.
DUMYA hasnt any of that. dumya is a fool, a coward, and a degenerate.
mitty? he wants to attack iran then send troops to jay-roo-solemn to occupy it with a pretense of protecting it after he attacks iran, then he wants to steal it. he has a cayman llc land deal to develop it for theme park, condos and time share. he wants you & yours to pay for his war, fight his war, die in his war while he gets to join the billionairs club. and what would you call that?
I think Clinton thinks Romney is dumb. Duh.
Just out of curiosity -- why can't Obama do this? Obviously, Romney thinks we're stupid.
Make this a commercial. Use the $180 million to run it 24/7 in OH, VA, FL.
Speaking of commercials that should be aired by the Obama campaign - how about the comparison between Romney's 5-point plan and Dubbya's promises, shown on Rachel's show last night? Just a split screen with Romney stating his "plan" followed by Bush making the same promise before he drove this country right off the rails...
Ohhh that is gooood!
OK Obama...put out an ad...
Bill Clinton was fantastic today. He needs to crisscross OH-VA-FL for the next 19 days.

"...., if I brought you a deal to Bain Capital and I said, fund my new business, I'll give you the budget sometime in the future, just trust me on that, you wouldn't give me one red cent,..."
The President is right that he wouldn't get 1 penny. But the thing is the GOTP has been doing that for years, that's why the sheeple continue to vote them into office in spite of the fact that the sheeple aren't doing better economically - it's just smoke & bad mirrors!
Wake up sheeple, before WE all get slaughtered! VOTE out the GOTP!!
Clinton paraphrased what Obama said, but made it much better. Obama asked Romney something like "would you invest in that project?" and Clinton said not "one red cent."
Only Bill Clinton is Bill Clinton, God bless him.
Good Lord, what are they smoking in the Romney camp?
On another note, if Romney is truly all that as a "bid'nessman," why did Bain Capital need to be rescued by the FDIC - with Romney screwing them out of $10M in the process? If he's so great on matters of business, why does the state Romney formerly governed now want no part of him as president?
The fact that Massachusetts doesn't want any part of the guy, should be the Ultimate Red Flag to the rest of the Country.
Great Post...Thank you and I hope its okay for me to quote you on my fb-timeline.
Here's another one for you, Bill, free of charge: Let's say a candidate says he's gonna RAISE taxes by 20%, but will offset that raise with new deductions, credits, etc...... so it won't raise your taxes, really....... and when he's asked about details of the deductions, he says he'll tell you all about that AFTER the election......So, how do you think that proposal would fly?
Seriously, a Kickstarter campaign requires more information than Romney is giving us about his budget plans.
This just in: The Tax Policy Center has found that "based on the details he has offered, the deduction cap idea would leave a $3.3 trillion shortfall in the budget if he follows through on a promise to reduce income tax rates 20 percent below Bush-era levels, cut corporate taxes, and repeal the estate tax, Alternative Minimum Tax and taxes in the Affordable Care Act." http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/10/mitt-romney-deduction-cap-tax-policy-center.php?ref=fpnewsfeed
I'm terrified to think of Romney and the Republicans in charge of anything....Massachusetts is glad to be free of him.
If you are interested in seeing some of Romney's financial twists and turns, check out the article in the new Rolling Stone. I so want to see this guys taxes.....What he does may not be illegal, but he's certainly immoral...and he thinks he should run the country. As James Lipton said "What we saw was a debate between a president and a boss."
( And the boss is a huge *rick ! )
There's only one way to prove to Mitt Romney you're not dumb.
I'm sure a lot of you have run across something like this, but I urge everybody to consider this:
http://pol.moveon.org/2012calls/cantgo.html
Maybe Rove and rancid Reince are conceding that Romney is a secretive douche, and that people already know that. It's factored into whatever they say.
Here it is. It's simple. Just go read it. Then you'll understand. http://www.romneytaxplan.com/
The tactic here it to confuse We, the stupid People, (a/k/a You stupid People) into thinking that Pres. Clinton agrees with RoMoney. Our votes will prove otherwise. We, the People MUST win this election all the way to dog catcher! NO GOP.
AMEN to that
I don't know why republicans do not have a problem with Mitt's position. If President Obama was making this statement, "I can cut taxes and make everyone happy while erasing the deficit and reducing the debt", I would say great, how? It should be expected the no matter your party affiliation, we the people deserve details.
Of course you know why. The reason is that none of this matters. The bottom line for Republicans is, "Let's get the BLACK guy out of the WHITE house." We've seen this for 4 years in congress. Has anybody had enough of it, yet? I, personally, am disgusted!
Time to start talking about what a Romney/Ryan/Wall Street presidency would mean in the immediate short term as concerns monetary policy: the floodgates of all that cash that has been hoarded for over 2 years will be released full throttle -- family consumers, municipalties, pension plans, small businesses will be able to borrow recklessly again because Obama won't be standing there with Biden and Elizabeth Warren and Barney Frank and a number of other totally pistolwhipped politicians and cabinet members and aids and staffers who WILL fight to prevent that debacle.
And this time around serious debt may be met with serious inflation: climate change and the scarcity of resourses that rests outside of any economic model discussed in this forum. Plus all the gambling.
The taxpayers will breathe relief at first because all this (paltry = cake) money will flood the streets and then after a while, after all the machinery of the casino has been ramped up again, after its been used ruthlessly to collect as much debt as possible (and that process would happen quickly -they are cat burglars now with a mitt man) then at just the right moment leverage it and run.
And THEN we will be Greece.
And THAT is what this whole little gluttony of money would be about: "shame on you citizens! You can't control your spending. You aren't thrifty or godlike and have wanton sex after you go level a Walmart shelf of video games into your massive shopping cart for layaway. (BTW the most offensive commercial I think I've ever seen. Tantalizing. Walmart of course).
And then the Mitt comes due.
Kabiddle -
I remember when Dubya sent out $600 to us after he had promised to send some of our tax money back to us. I also remember talking to some of my Republican friends about it and some of them were almost in tears because we had a president "who kept his promises!" I thought to myself, "$600? My God, you'd have thought their lives had changed forever and ever. $600? That's it?" Turns out, he probably spent much more money than he had to. Probably could have gotten the same reaction if the rebates were under $100, because all they wanted was to be able to say "Bush gave some of our money back!" They would still be able to say "see, we were right" which is the most important thing to conservatives.
I live in a state where early voting has begun.I voted for Obama this morning and was happy to do it.
thank you CHINO22. You are a great american.
When will someone ask the simple question of all the undecided voters who are leaning towards Romney because of his successful experience in the private sector: "Do you really want the country run the way Bain Capital did business?" Bain went in, took the tough decisions (firing people etc) and made money for its investors. Only problem is, Mr Undecided Voter, in this scenario you are the person who would be fired (or would suffer the other tough decisions relevant to you, e.g. no health care) and the 1% are the investors...
Clinton sure is having fun, kinda missed the guy!
He with his right wing cronies, says government handouts are bad, yet when he ran the Olympics, he asked for numerous handouts, and put our government in debt over 16 million dollars. He lives by a double standard, let's go to war, just don't send any of my sons to it, let's hire more middle class, but not let them earn a decent wage. It's apaling, and it s disgraceful, and any woman who would vote for this looney bin, seriously needs to have a competency hearing to see if she is sane.
People need to WAKEUP and listen to the entire context of what President Clinton had said:
http://www.c-span.org/Campaign2012/Events/Bill-Clinton-Bruce-Springsteen-Campaign-for-President-Obama/10737435021-1/
Yep, Pres. Clinton hit the nail squarely on the head with that call.
Not only does Romney think we are dumb...the entire GOP thinks we're Dumb and have thought this for a long time.
Eight plus years ago, when they realize how badly they had screwed up and the economy was due to crash...they started throwing "Bush after Bush" at the American people, while they continued fleecing the system and forcing manufacturers into the outsource arena.
Four years ago, Romney could have step into the ring and ran for President, but he chose to sit it out.
So they threw poor ole dumb-ass John McCain in as the sacrificial goat...all the time betting against him via bad advice...(hence; the poor choice of running mate...S. Palin). Talk about dedicated to the party...McCain probably agreed to be slaughtered.
Now the heavy lifting and toiling is out of the way...here they come back to finish what they set out to do originally..."Perpetuate Their GREED!!!!"
Only the Name have Changed...It's still the Same Grade B Movie...But this time they scraped the bottom of the Thieves Barrel to give a new version of the same Virus.
Romney is like a Computer Virus "Worm or Trojan" type. That stealthily infects a system(the US Treasury) and steals a penny every microsecond while replicating itself. It seems like nothing is being harmed at first...until the system crashes. President Obama the Antivirus we elected to cleanup the mess left by the original Virus, injected by the GOP/more accurately( The GOB's...Good Ole Boys).
Now that things are beginning to look up...Here they come again with another infestation named "Romney/Ryan."
A Virus by any other name is Still a Virus...and I can assure these two Lying SOB's are nothing but Politically disguised Economic Viruses.
One more thing my Fellow Americans...
If you elect them. Once they're in Office. Romney and Ryan no longer be spending their money, or the money of all those Campaign Contributor's money.
They are will be spending yours and your children's money, cause those contributor are expecting an ROI for their Campaign Funding.
George, the GOP doesn't think we're dumb, that's why Santorum said they will never get the smart people to support them. But they know that the Religious Right are dumb. All you have to do is say "Those Godless Democrats" and they will go any way you want them to. The voters in the South think they will finally dominate the North by putting people into office who will replace our Constitution with the Bible. They need to be stopped.
That is really well said George.
Just wondering why the DNC isn't running national ads about the Filibuster and the House GOP hamstringing the efforts of the President and Democrats to move us out from under Bush policies and the recession?
We need to re elect Obama but now that we all have seen how not taking advantage of a majority leads to an erosion of that consensus and defeats our goals.
Has anyone else seen this yet??? Very damning of Mit & company...
http://www.thenation.com/article/170644/mitt-romneys-bailout-bonanza
Why is that all of you do not see the root of the problem? Here is the Federal Reserve buying toxic assets from banks(their own creation), using money they create out of nothing.
Every injection ($40 Billion per month) reduces our purchase power. Where are the advocates of the middle class, the poor, saying anything about that? Who needs taxes when every month we get the dollars that we work for buying less?
I do not hear Obama, Clinton, Romney, Rachel Maddow, Hannity, saying anything about that.
