Tonight's guests:
W. Kamau Bell, host of "Totally Biased" on FX, comedian and activist
Bob Herbert, distinguished senior fellow at Demos public policy advocacy center and a contributor for PolicyShop.net, former columnist for The New York Times
And here's executive producer Bill Wolff with a look at tonight's show:

I'd like to see Jill Stein on Maddow.
I'd like to see any dyke ON Maddow ...... just to see how she actually performs.
I would have loved to see Rachel really grill Chris Dodd in her interview way back in 2008, grilling him about his refusal to consider reforming Freddie and Fannie and in him taking a sweetheart loan at a truly sweet low rate. But, alas, she just fawned over him. No grilling. Just expressed her gratitude that he was in senate and on this housing case...
I thought comment 1.1 was in bad taste.
daughter of f*ckwads, you are beyond contempt.
Flag the troll - that was in VERY poor taste - I am surprised that Julia didn't ban him! Maybe she's gone home!
Why does this Maddow girl look like a lesbo? And the stupidity that comes out. Wow.
8trillion in new spending from Romney. I want and did vote for the CEO. Can't be any worse than the non birth certificate holding Muslim that is in the office now.
I'm truly sorry, nondemo, for your lack of awareness, comprehension, discernment and decency.
Just for your awareness, President Obama was born in Hawaii. Hawaii is one of the states in the United States of America. I'm sorry you missed that class in school. The sovereign state of Hawaii has certifited by both verbal and written communications as to the veracity of his birth in Hawaii. I'm sorry you didn't get those classes either (reading and speech).
Further, as noted in the brouhaha in 2008 he was, and is a member of a Christian Church (though I don't think he is a member of the same church as he was in 2008). Not even in the fantasy world of Republicans can one be both Christian and Muslim at the same time (See John McCain's rejoinder to the lady that accused President Obama of being Muslim in 2008. He is a Republican so you should be able to believe him.)
However, what I am sorriest about is your inability to think critically about rumors, falsehoods and propaganda with no basis. To simply waste the precious right to vote and throw it away so carelessly is pathetic. Perhaps you should have checked out the progress made in the country over the last 4 years.
But then, it's just much easier to believe anything said that is negative to shore up your hatred.
Or you could be just a troll, in which case, I just wasted 5 minutes of my life.
Just a little bit going on today in the news :)~
Um, I'd skip that one.
You would think that the Tea party and Ron Paul supporters would be furious at another Republican offering $8 trillion in spending without being specific on how we will pay for it. They got left at the altar when it came time to choose a Republican presidential candidate so I hope they leave Mitt Romney at the altar, for the sake of fiscal responsibility they hold so dear. Are there any deficit hawks or libertarians that Rachel could have on to discuss their concerns, if they have any?
For sure. I remember the right being appalled because Obama wouldn't give specifics, only framework, about health care reform, preferring to let Reid write it in the senate.
Now, it is funny to see Obama totally forget that concept and wet himself on a like approach.
Reid write it! @!$%#- wasn't he the one that said you have to pass it to know whats in it?
Lol, no, that was Pelosi.
I will repeat Mr Willy the flip flopper. He did a commercial when he ran for governor of Massachusetts. He stood in front of the Salem Electric Power Plant then run by coal that left many a roof stained with coal dust. His statement had to do with the cleaning up of the plants pollution or shutting down. Once the man was elected I believe we never heard about it again. What reminded me of it again this time was his statement on how the United States could be self reliant for energy with oil, gas, nuclear and coal. What was that last one???? FLOP FLOP FLOP!!!
I need some clarification. I think I heard Mrs. Romney on the View this morning say that although Mitt didn't go to Viet Nam, he fulfilled his military obligation by going on a mission for the Mormon church in France. It seems she also said her son was fulfilling his military obligation by treating some soldiers coming back from War? It was such a slippery talk from her that I am not clear. Her other sons were fulfilling their obligations by going on missions for the Mormon church? I don't understand just what she said but it seems like she is planning to do away with the separation of church and state and making Mormonism the official church? I just don't get it.
Well, her husband said that the 5 "boys" were fulfilling their civic duty to the country by trying to help him get elected.
Personally, I don't buy either argument. Proselytising for a church didn't get the Lutherans, Catholics or Baptists off from miitary duty. And as for his "boys" campaigning for him, that is more a crime against the nation than a civic duty.
And while it is all well and good for the son that is "treating some soldiers coming back from the war" I would find it much more honorable if he were treating those soldiers over in Afghanistan, not in the peace and comfort here.
The biggest laugh I had was when they were trying to pin her down on something (I forgot what) and she said "I wish you could get my husband on the couch to explain.' (Whew!!!!!!!) Now that would be something to see!!!!! Especially when he refuses to go on The View because of Whoopi Goldberg and the other 3 women who are not right wing apologists.
I'm just saying. . .
The shows on MSNBC have totally missed Obama's strategy in my opinion. At the first debate President Obama was a gentleman. He was polite. He was not rude. His intent was to raise the bar for integrity in this horrible exercise of politics. And actually if you really had faith in the president you would have noted he was able to get Romney to show his hand, D. Bender, on Stephanie Miller's radio show, said President Obama's 2nd favorite game after basketball was POKER. And that is what Obama did at the first debate. HE took Romney's measure; had him show his hand and then acted on it at the second debate. Also President Obama planned this "comeback" at the very venue he was comfortable with , the town hall meeting. Ye of little faith of the President and knowledge of his Poker playing talents were among the many who preferred to make the President look like a dolt when he really was demonstrating extremly competent political savvy. Shame on the media!
If his intent was to allow the centrist 20% to see Romney, and get a feel that he could be presidential, then you're right, Obama was successful in doing that. I must say, it was a goofy as heck strategy If you're right.
He's a Chicago thug, he knows how to play dirty.
I find it a riot those that depict Romney a "bully". I guess hypocrites can be blind...
Watching your Al Smith coverage live, someone needs to tell Chis Mathews to lighten-up a bit, he's looking a little stiff:
Like a cat in a room full of rockers.
Like he got a bad piece of chicken.
Like an Obama stalker.
Like the dude at the podium just farted.
I'm watching ROmney at the Al Smith Dinner...he's not funny although his elite Catholic audience seems to think so. He's mean spirited and a bully.
Romney was much better than Obama
Romney did seem more presidential.
And more sincere at the end...I thought he was going to go over and hug the President.
Of course, he was supposed to be telling "self-deprecating" jokes not continuing the campaign at the dinner. 14 put downs of President Obama and one weak joke about himself. As usual, President Obama followed the rules (Presidentially) and only hit the Romney campaign 3 times, I think those were ad libs in response to Romney.
Maddow please just go to FOX NEWS. Maybe then Romney will come on your show.
I know you're losing sleep at night over that. You really think he's funny?
What??????
I thought it was funny when Romney said that during the stressful times of the campaign he could lean on his wife for support and Obama could lean on Clinton...wonderful line and probably more truth in it than one would think.
I think Bell and Rachel were too easy on Romney's comments at the Al Smith dinner. Romney's jokes were much more pointed, offensive and attacking. Some of his comments clearly exceeded any propriety, while the President was respectful and much funnier.
They realize that the lines are written for them. This was nothing more than two court jesters competing for the nod of the aristocracy. This evening's remarks really mean nothing, but watch! and see how the dumb-ass media tries to spin it into something more.
Romney went to his writers and asked if they had any jokes for him.
They said, "Yes. But we can't reveal them until after the speech."
Is it too paranoid to wonder if there might be a right-wing plot to create electoral fraud scandals, now that their suppression efforts have been thwarted? The early voting tallies, and their reaction to them seems to send a clear signal that they plan to challenge these votes. Does the GOP plan to use allegations of massive voter fraud to invalidate the entire proceeding?
This issue of voter suppression has been very high profile this year, and so tensions over the issue are already extremely high and I have to say I am concerned that the possibility that this manufactured scandal will cause tremendous damage to the credibility of our social contract.
There have already been several instances of it by dems in Ohio
Gee, I haven't heard about any except the ones that the Republicans are pulling. Where is the links that document the ones in Ohio?
The only other case I heard was the dummy that pulled down the Republican signs and went on a major binge afterwards. You can't trust an alcoholic to do anything right.
The people who put together that 8 noviembre pamphlet should go to jail.
Could someone please send me a picture of pouty-lipped mock-serious Rachel? Thank you.
