I've seen President Obama give a whole lot of speeches, but I honestly can't recall seeing him have as much fun on the stump as he did today in Virginia. The president wasn't just taking on Mitt Romney's record; he was also having a great time doing it.
The Al Smith dinner may have been last night, and both Obama and Romney may have both delivered some great punch lines, but the president's riff on "Romnesia" was at least as funny as any political humor I've seen in a while.
It's a four-minute clip, and for those who can't watch clips online, I'm running a transcript below. That said, this one's worth watching, not just to see the way in which Obama delivers his attack, but also to appreciate the style of the president's closing argument against his challenger.
There are a lot of ways to go after a rival, some more aggressive and abrasive than others, but to paint an opponent as someone who deserves to be literally laughed at may be the most brutal approach of them all.
Here's the transcript:
"But now that we're 18 days out from the election, Mr. 'Severely Conservative' wants you to think he was 'severely kidding' about everything he's said over the last year. He told folks he was 'the ideal candidate' for the Tea Party, now suddenly he's saying, 'what, who, me?' He's forgetting what his own positions are, and he's betting that you will too.
"I mean he's changing up so much, backtracking and sidestepping. We've gotta name this condition that he's going through. I think it's called "Romnesia." That's what it's called. I think that's what he's going through.
"Now, I'm not a medical doctor but I do want to go over some of the symptoms with you -- because I want to make sure nobody else catches it.
"If you say you're for equal pay for equal work, but you keep refusing to say whether or not you'd sign a bill that protects equal pay for equal work -- you might have Romnesia.
"If you say women should have access to contraceptive care, but you support legislation that would let your employer deny you contraceptive care -- you might have a case of Romnesia.
"If you say you'll protect a woman's right to choose, but you stand up at a primary debate and said that you'd be "delighted" to sign a law outlawing that right to choose in all cases -- man, you've definitely got Romnesia.
"Now, this extends to other issues. If you say earlier in the year I'm going to give a tax cut to the top 1 percent and then in a debate you say, I don't know anything about giving tax cuts to rich folks -- you need to get a thermometer, take your temperature, because you've probably got Romnesia.
"If you say that you're a champion of the coal industry when while you were Governor you stood in front of a coal plant and said, 'this plant will kill you' -- that's some Romnesia.
"So, I think you're beginning to be able to identify these symptoms. And if you come down with a case of Romnesia, and you can't seem to remember the policies that are still on your website, or the promises you've made over the six years you've been running for president, here's the good news: Obamacare covers pre-existing conditions.
"We can fix you up. We've got a cure. We can make you well, Virginia. This is a curable disease.
"Women, men, all of you. These are family issues. These are economic issues. I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as anybody's sons. I believe America does better, the economy grows more, we create more when everybody participates, when everyone's getting a fair shot, everybody's getting a fair shake, everybody's playing by the same rules, everybody's doing their fair share. That's why I'm asking you for another term as President of the United States. I need you to help me finish the job."

So good and so clever. And the Obamacare hammer line? Terrific.
But a question: What happens in Debate #3? Which MR shows up? And does this latest tempest-in-a-teapot about Libya (about Obama saying it wasn't "optimal") have any legs -- either because it's all the MR campaign has or because the press still wants this to be a dog fight? Eager for answers . . . .
I trust that Obama's folks are fashioning the hammer to crush that attack as we speak . Mr. Romney is going to try to be polite this time , but I think Obama will win the chess match
I hope you're right, at least about the chess match and the victor.
About MR being "polite," I'm not so sure. You're probably correct that he'll try not to hector as much as he did in the second debate, but I hope he's the same aggressive guy he was this week. The more like a bully he seems the better . . . .
Notice how Obama was headed straight to that stage, until he saw that young kid and stopped dead and spoke to him. Now that is class. I love Obama in Virginia......not romnisia.
FORWARD!
SparkleMotion!, I agree with you. The more he's a bully and walks all over the moderator and is disrespectful of the President, the more he puts people off. There were a lot of people that didn't like that. With the exception of Chuck the toad Todd. He said, as usual, that both of them did it.
Thanks, Phenner. I'm with you.
I had no idea about Chuck Todd on this note, but sadly it doesn't surprise me. He's a master of the fine art of false equivalency. Only a small step to the magical world of seeing no difference between assertiveness and outright rudeness.
Thankful Mom -- I didn't see the video with the kid. Where can I find it?
I was watching it on TV before Obama came in, the video above starts after Obama is on the stage. Maybe you will catch the full thing somewhere on TV today.
There's no possibility of Romney being polite and following the rules. He's never done any of that anytime in his entire life. Being a racist, misogynist bully (i.e., a Mormon) is who he is.
sick-n-effin - I think I have to disagree with you this time. I don't think Romney has a polite bone in his diseased, entitled CEO body. Oh he may try, but he just can't stop himself from interrupting, trying to control everything around him, and trying to keep Obama from having his say or the final word in anything. He doesn't know how else to operate. He cannot tolerate anybody disagreeing with him, or worse yet, pointing out the error of his policies, thinking, or math.
Plus, by Monday night we will have enough polls from battlegound states showing Obama in control of at least the electoral vote. Romney will be back to feeling desperate, and think he must go on more of an attack. The righties will want that anyway and he'll want to get them fired up.
Notice how Obama was headed straight to that stage, until he saw that young kid and stopped dead and spoke to him.
He asked the kid how he felt about paying down 16T in US debt for the rest of his life.
Let's see, where to start....?
First of all the debt was closing in on 12 Trillion at the end of Bush's budget through the end of October 2009. And secondly the Bush economic meltdown and simultaneous tax cuts for the rich destroyed the revenue streams coming into the Treasury. And third the $Trillion Bush wars of choice and his unfunded and unnecessarily generous to Big Pharma Medicare Part D prescription drug act costs billions of dollars every year. Given all that there was NO ONE who could have become president without these yearly debts.
So blame Obama all you like roscoe's chicken and waffles. Your right wing talking points will get called out here.
The Romnesia riff is 100 per awesome! President Obama ought to just stay on this upbeat trend, interject a little humor into every speech.
"Sick-n-effin-tired" I would love to see a "polite" Romney, but I don't think that guy exists. I think Romney will continue his bull-in-china-shop approach as it's his only M.O. And his supporters love it, sadly. They think it shows strength. But the rest of us just see a disrespectful, spoiled rich kid who's sole motivation in life is grabbing whatever he can for himself. How people can look at his demeanor and think that he's going to care about them, let alone the poor and elderly, is beyond me.
First of all the debt was closing in on 12 Trillion at the end of Bush's budget through the end of October 2009.
So what?'
Obama still asked the kid what he thought about paying down 16T.
There's too much at stake for politeness.
It's time for a pit bull in the WH. That's why the polls are going Romney's way.
A pit bull is a hardheaded SOB who can't be controlled onces it has an objective.
Mitt Romney isn't fit to lick a pit bull's ass. He's incapable of taking a stance and sticking to it. He'll say whatever his current audience wants to hear, and he'll throw his base under the bus to do it.
And you like it. Pathetic.
roscoe's-chicken-and-waffles:
You're right about one thing: There's too much at stake for politeness.
So let me break it down for you:
"So what" comment? For real? What an ignorant ass you are.
Either you are profoundly dumb, or your hate for a black man, doing a great job at cleaning up a mess that he inherited despite GOP obstruction is so strong that you can see nothing else but right wing lies.
People like you disgust me.
And there is alot at stake: ignorant knuckle draggers can stay marginalized and go back under the rocks where you came from.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
My friend has her 22 year old son on her insurance policy.
He doesn't have a job, so what is repealing Obamacare going to do? Kick him off her policy.
What people do not understand, is that the jobs Rmoney has sent to China are not going to help OUR economy. It's going to help the Rmoney family and friends' economy.
We are being left behind, as they mentioned you are on your own and we are taking away the safety net, too.
Shop around. Borrow from your parents, but we are cutting education funding,
Romney polite? Oh no, no, no, folks. That's not what it is. What it is is cold, vicious, aggressive, unprincipled, focused ambition.
There's only one way to beat it. Kill it. Just kill it. When you get it down, you twist the knife, you stick the head in the water till it stops breathing. That's what Dems have to learn to do. Because Republicans don't and won't hesitate to do it to you. Take a good look at Mitch McConnell, at Mitt Romney, at Paul Ryan. When you look at that you are looking at viciousness with a phoney smile.
Could not agree more. The world is his boardroom and he's the almighty CEO. God help America if he's elected.
roscoesmith: Calling Mitt Romney a pit bull is an insult to millions of great dogs.
Chuck is fairly left of center. But, only a partisan hack would have said either of the candidates acted differently. Two peas of the same pod in that regard.
this blog makes no claim to being neutral does it? It's a generally recognized Obama apologia, yes?
I don't think "apologia" means what you think it means.
No
Definition of apologia -- justification: a formal, usually written, defense or justification of a belief, theory, or policy
i thought you're here to comment on the content of Steve's posts.
When you can't challenge the message, pick a fight with the messenger.
I agree with Khayyam. Hope Entropy is reading!
Shooter Just so you know I really do appreciate you being here everyday doing what you do and putting up with all of us terrible "Apologists", because it reminds us just how important the things we believe in really are and more importantly why we believe them. You have done more in your own small way to help the democratic party and the progressive cause than you will ever know and I just wanted to say thank you.
Awwww, man! Hahahahahahahaha. Airball is so upset it's partisan around here. Hey dumba$$, there's nothing wrong with choosing sides. Just choose the one that tells the truth, that makes decision using facts, evidence, and reason. Balance is bullshhit. Truth is unbalanced. Balance makes truth sick to its stomach. All that is necessary is fair and accurate, and when the truth is known, f ck balance.
The troll continues to show its desperation over R-money's inevitable loss. The writing is on the wall, the rats are deserting the sinking ship, etc. And the troll can't stop any of it. So, instead, the troll does the only thing it is capable of doing: it trolls.
Dragoon is right, Blankman is doing US a favor. Thanks Blankman, it's your hysteria about President Obama that has made us really look at why we choose to vote for him, to see the stark differences between both candidates and their ideologies.
See George W., was an arrogant, totally ignorant, a real dummkopf, he was an embarrassment on the world stage, he started two wars - 1 of them based on a lie for empire and the enrichment of the Plutocracy! The rich siphoned off the treasury, and WE the PEOPLE paid for the largesse of the banksters, and while Mitt has all of W's failed advisors, people like you are still ready, willing and angry to support him - even though his policies will hurt 47% of Americans! Mittens has lied on everything and yet you still want him in office! It's people like you that I pity, you haven't the mental faculties or you are just too intellectually lazy to figure out what's going on, you want an "authoritarian" figure that will usurp our democracy and turn us into a Fascist nation; and please don't think that poor white people won't get caught up and cast out! But you don't care, which makes you selfish as well as ignorant!
So yes, thank you. Because without sheeple like you, I might not be as clear in my thinking!
Zora
Romnesia, Big Bird are what the Dems are using as a platform ? I know you must be kidding or have you finished all of the Kool aid ?
If this were a sporting event with Obama as the manager he would have been shown the door years ago. When does he own his presidency ? When does he own his lies and deception and America bashing ? What new direction has he proposed for this country for the next 4 years ? Same old thing. Bigger government, more spending and legislative stalemates. Think most people are sick of all this and want to get something done. Obama has had 4 years of steering this ship and to coin his own phrase "should not be allowed to drive any longer".
Little tip for you----the Election will not be as "close" as the media and left have predicted ........Romney although no where near a perfect candidate WILL be the next President....Take a deep breath and start dealing with that thought.
Just choose the one that tells the truth.
It seems to me that liberals choose whoever promises them the most freebies, shortest work hours, and, ahem, medical marijuana.
And it just seems to me that conservatards choose whomever fox news tells them to.
But it goes further than that: It just seems to me that conservatards are ignorant and will vote against their best interests because...well...they are stupid.
And it just seems to me that conservatards choose whomever fox news tells them to
Not true!!
I vote for whoever will cut my taxes and reform entitlement programs.
Since LBJ started the "War on Poverty" the taxpayers have paid out 16 trillion to the bottom rung in this country. Does the number, 16 trillion sound familiar? Yep...the entire national debt!!!!
Just imagine how well off we'd be if we didn't waste all that dough because the clowns that were collecting back in the 60s have millions of children and grand children doing the same thing today.
You mean the SS and Medicare we pay into all our working lives. Those the entittlements you mean? I would call the "earned benifits". We PAID for them just like we pay for health and life insurance. And I really doubt you pay enough taxes for them to worry about. But I would rather see our tax money going to help the peopel of this country as opposed to every other country. But you righties don't want YOUR taxes going to help anybody but you. I think that's called selfcentered.
rosco, people like you are why Limbaugh still has a radio show and I am a democrat.
I have this funny feeling that you are coming to from the undisclosed location of your Do-it-yourself Ted Kaczynski cabin where you can sit and work on your manifesto about how all those "clowns" are sucking the life out of this country.
The problem is that the "war on poverty" that you so casually deride did a lot of things. By helping people out of poverty they were allowed to spend more money and pay more taxes. It allowed many of them to own their own homes thereby creating demand and more jobs for a lot more people, same with cars, farmers, the list goes on and on...so unless you are willing to rage against the whole capitalist system that is the American economy I would suggest you turn off the radio and open a book, Try starting with one written by a fella named Adam Smith and if that is to long for you then one by Jonathan Swift I think would suit you.
"I vote for whoever will cut my taxes and reform entitlement programs."
Rosoe, and that's why you are one of the sheeple! Taxes are what WE pay as a people for services and benefits: public education, roads, trash, fire, police, etc. - the fact that you don't know the basics speak volumes. That "16 trillion paid to the bottom" that you speak of, please tell me where did you get that figure from? As a nation WE are in debt because those "tax cuts" you speak of went to the highest earners, 2 unnecessary wars, and a prescription drug benefit that's highly profitable for Pharma - that IS WHY WE ARE IN DEBT!
So tell me, how do you feel about the welfare being gifted to BIG OIL/COAL/PHARMA/Agriculture? How do you feel about those top 11,000 corporations that pay little to NO taxes? Just imagine how well off WE would be if we closed the loopholes and deductions for them!
And I'm sorry that you think SS adds to the debt - it doesn't it comes out of your taxes with every pay check - see we pay in all our lives and when we're old, we draw out - they're benefits; and just in case you don't know every year SS sends out an itemized list of what you paid in and how much you will get out starting at age 60+ and above. As for Medicare - we pay for that too! And while you may have a trust-fund for your old age, BZ to you, everyone does not!
Selfish!
You mean the SS and Medicare we pay into all our working lives. Those the entittlements you mean?
No
I think that's called selfcentered.
Yes You're right. If I don't look out for myself will you do it for me? The democrat party isn't known as the part of hate and selfishness for nothing.
It is wonderful to have open dialogue about political points of view, but I am damn tired of Republicans assuming they are the only ones who work, work long hours, never use Government programs and never use medical marijuana. Get your head out of your Fox News Ass - Democrats work, we work hard are loyal and work long hours when necessary. You are a fool if you think Republicans do not get food stamps, welfare, housing assistance, V.A. Benefits, and Social Security. How ignorant for you to imply that Republicans do not cancer and other diseases that would require medical marijuana.
By helping people out of poverty they were allowed to spend more money and pay more taxes.
Thanks to liberal democrats there's more poverty today than ever. You idiots make working for wealth an option. If you don't want to work just vote for a lefty and get a check. That's the main reason do everything I can to pay as little tax as possible.
Lorr
Go to South side Chicago...Obamaville...and tell me the taxpayers dollars are being put to good use.
Pay people a decent wage and they will be able to get above the poverty level.
Taxpayer dollars are not being put to good use when you have wars that are not necessary - Iraq.
Taxes are what WE pay as a people for services
The "WE' you refer to are the rich. 5% of the population pays 90% of the taxes. Don't give me any liberal "WE" crap!!!
Pay people a decent wage
People get paid what they're worth. A non-English speaking toilet cleaner gets minimum wage, a hedge fund manager that makes billions for his clients gets paid millions.
Is that so hard to figure out?
Taxpayer dollars are not being put to good use when you have wars that are not necessary - Iraq.
I agree 100%
A lot of people are not paid what they are worth. You look down your nose at a person cleaning toilets and you make assumptions about them. For over 30 years the top 1% income has increased 275% and the middle class income has increased 18%, so why is that? How did that 1% earn that 275%, wasn't it through their hard work and the hard work of others who worked for them? Where is that trickle down - you would think over 30 years more than 18% would trickle down.
Good night
Ohhh: roscoe's-chicken-and-waffles is on an ignorant right wing rant!!!!
LOL!!!
You just showed everyone here how much of an ignorant selfish @!$%# that ou are! Good for you RCAW!!!
Folks: THIS troll is the reason why robme lyin joke of a candiate is running in the first place. Extreme right wing bs is why robme is quickly becoming a caricature of a human being, and why we all must vote for Obama.
So rant and rage on roscoe's-chicken-and-waffles. You are the best reason for voting and for a woman's right to choose!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Really? You do realize that "non-English speaking toilet cleaner" is a human being, right? With hopes, dreams, ambitions, a family, just like you or me?
The problem with your brilliant argument is that our country is founded on the idea of giving people the opportunity to improve their lot. And when you do backbreaking work all day, and get paid so little that you can barely house and feed yourself (much less a family), the notion of upward mobility is a farce. The American dream becomes a myth.
So, what's your answer? That we should live in a society where we keep people so poor that no janitor can ever NOT be a janitor? At that point, we might as well just adopt a caste system and call it a day.
joke of a candiate?????????????
The joke is your next president.
LOL!!
That's a good one, enema!!!
LOL!!!
People get paid what they're worth. A non-English speaking toilet cleaner gets minimum wage, a hedge fund manager that makes billions for his clients gets paid millions.
To those that much have been given much should be expected.
Not everyone is smart enough to be a hedge fund manager. There are those that are working at the best of their ability to be a toilet cleaner and as long they are doing the best they can with what they have been given, then that's fine by me.
Roscoe, why do you have to say "non-English speaking?"
I
This is freakin' classic. He honestly looks like he is enjoying himself.
He definitely has got his groove back. Just in time delivery works!
It is definitely and good PR. I think it could backfire even with the Obamacare hammer. Romney could turn back on this using Obamacare as his own tool...but we'll see.
Still, clever.
RobDon:
What a shock.
The only backfiring happening, RobbieDonnie boy, is the backfiring that comes from the fact you're not firing on all four.
More right wing name calling. Wow, surprise there.
Like Jeff Foxworthy, except...you know, funny.
The Jeff Foxworthy delivery connects with people. Nice touch!
What an amazing speech! The Obamacare line is priceless!
I think he may have crapped his "magic underwear" that could be called a case of "Romarrhea"
That's what comes out of his mouth! Heehee
OOOOOoooooooooOOOOO!!! Romney got clowned!!! LOL! :D
(very clever, btw, how he used the once derisive "Obamacare" to crack jokes on Romney)
Rachel, I love your show and watch everyday. I have a question for you and I hope u read this and get back to me. are u aware of Grover Norquist and his role, money, and power existing in our congress? Also are you also awear of the amount of devestation that this man as caused on our whole existance. I just read up on him and I am in shock at so many things, and so many things now make sense to me. I think everyone should know about this man.
aad1ram@yahoo.com
I'm quite sure Rachel is well aware of Grover Norquist- I'm almost certain he's been mentioned on the air, as well as on this blog. Also, I sincerely doubt Rachel will correspond with you personally over this- she doesn't have time to respond to every fan. Frankly, it's a bit condescending that you would approach the host of a successful news program with well-known information that you "just read up on" and assume she's unaware of it.
Angela - pay no mind to Jurgan's snark here. I'm not sure that Rachel herself has time to even read every comment on this blog (which would probably be why the show has folks like blog editor Steve Benen, technician Will Femia and others to write and maintain it).
On the other hand, I've been a fan of Rachel's for years now (even since before she had her own show on Air America Radio). Despite her commanding intellect and impressive educational credentials (Rhodes Scholar, Oxford U. DPhil in PoliSci) she's always been friendly, utterly unpretentious and welcoming to those with a genuine interest and willingness to learn.
I'm sure that Rachel would be pleased (as am I) to learn of your growing awareness of the insidious nature of Mr. Norquist's influence on our society. Congratulations on breaking through the propaganda befuddling so many of our countrymen, and welcome to the Blog! I hope you'll continue to post here and be part of the conversation...
@Pretzelogic in Philly, PA: First of all, I love the name because my favorite snack food is pretzels and my favorite football team is the Steelers (All day baby!). Secondly, I just wanted to commend you for your kind and eloquent way you addressed Angela, in response to Jurgan’s very behavior. Jurgan, must be a Mitt Romney supporter. Because he/she is a bully as well! I hate bully’s! Especially the grownup kind!
If you have forgotten how much you have stashed away in offshore accounts, you may have Romnesia!
I you forgot what you said what ever it was, you may have Romnesia!

If you forget what state you live in, you may have Romnesia!

What kind of beast is it that would destroy the US..........................Romzilla!
Dang! This would be a good one for Rachel to put on air, but there are so many....she wouldn't have the time.
If you give a speech saying you can't be bothered with 47% of the people (that are moochers) and then say you are for 100% of the people.....you have Romnesia.

If you think you "saved the Olympics," you definitely have a terminal case of Romnesia.
But fortunately for you, ObamaCare covers long-term treatment, since it's going to take the rest of your life to cure you of this.
Sorry TC , but Mitt is hopeless. As a Mormon Bishop his religious beliefs ban him from taking his Meds. Mitch's line at the Al Smith dinner about abstaining from alcohol for sixty-five years as debate prep made me think that what he really does need is to wake up in a drunk tank, with no clue, just once. Romnesia is fine for George W Bush, with his substance history, but I think somebody needs to spike Romney's KoolAid for him.
If you make a wrong right turn at Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan, you might end up in Romnesia!
Get Enraged and Engaged:
Mooch the Vote 2012!
;-)
TC, to quote a good ole boy comedian "there's your sign". I happen to like some good ole boys upon occasion, as lots of my relatives were absolutely good ole boys that survived the Great Depression. In a past life, I also had a father in law that had hunting dogs, Redbones. He cooked the best mac and cheese and greens you ever ate.
Pretzelogic: I guess your fond of Dubya...
Breaking NEWS!!!
They have found WMDs in Iraq.....A giant bag of pretzels! Heehee
I guess the truth is too hard to swallow!
#10.9
@xxx ooo: Good one x! :)
Barry is hope is you will get amnesia and forget that last four years. High gas prices, 16 trillion in debt.
Why do you keep bringing up GW Bush!
I vividly remember the last four years, especially the way the treasonous GOP tried to undermine everything Obama tried to accomplish up to and including the deliberate trashing of our credit-worthiness with the debt ceiling nonsense. Try again, nimrod.
And how much of the $16 Trillion was a pre-existing condition? What do presidents have to do with gas prices (do you prefer a command economy)?
The guy put out the fire and is restoring the house and your complaining that the walls aren't painted fast enough or to a color of your liking?
What we really remember is the eight years before the last four......and the comparison. things are so much better for the last four when we brought our troops back from Iraq. killed OBL. Gave women the Lilly Ledbetter act, and started moving forward despite the undermining of the republicans. Now they want to put romney in and move back to the dark, dark, dark ages.
If you think Obama is responsible for the 16 trillion debt when it was put on Bush's credit card.......you may have Romnesia.
http://americablog.com/2012/03/under-what-party-did-gasoline-and-oil-prices-reach-their-peak-republican-of-course.html
Under George Bush gasoline prices were at their highest *ever* until the economy crashed.
If you think gasoline prices weren't high under George Bush, you may have Romnesia.
See? This is why you want to know your doctor's political affiliations before you let him come at you with those leeches and bleeder knives.
I do appreciate all the Republican M.D.s for their efforts in proving that Doctors are not "God."
Ok- I won't vote for George bush if you won't vote for Jimmie carter. Now that this is settled, how do we go about getting the current team out of the white house so we can make some economic progress...
Rusty, it's not the team in the White House that needs to go. It's the team in Congress that's holding back economic progress.
I wish you Libs would make up your mind..one minute you are talking about how the country is making progress because of Obama and his policies and then the next minute you are blaming the congress for holding back progress and not allowing any of Obama's policies to make it through...oh, that's right,,,you guys have Obamanesia...
just saying...
Formerly- would you be talking about the team in congress that rejected the other sides input and demanded bills be written behind closed doors, only to be available for reading after the vote? If so, I tend to agree with you...
Thankful Mom-3182614, THE Lilly Ledbetter act a gift to women, what gift????
drpaultyler -- If your screen name means you are a doctor, better increase your malpractice insurance because you are becoming so impaired that you can't even write a coherent English sentence. It isn't your grammar, it's that it has about as much meaning as last night's plate waste.
Stormguy - Your reasoning makes very little sense. Yes, there has been progress, BUT the progress would most likely have been greater if many (not all) policies hadn't been blocked. So it's a perfectly valid statement to say you want to keep one part of the equation and not the other.
It's a little like getting paid $2000 one month, and then spending $1500 club hopping. Which part do you blame when you don't have enough to pay your bills? The income or the unnecessary money-wasting?
I LOVED THIS!!!!!! Way to go Mr. President!!!
I hope he doesn't quit his day job! hee hee hee
I sure don't want to see a man with romnesian at the helm.
It's a thing of beauty!
Wow, he's doing Foxworthy's routine. Who knows, that might win him some votes in the South.
They probably attack him for plagiarism...

You're on the money X!
Now that Gov Romney is lauding his accomplishments as the Gov. of Mass. wouln't it be appropriate to point out that Pres Obama has a 19 point lead over him. If Romney was so terrific why aren't the people voting for him. I know that this is considered a "blue" state, but the point that he emphasizes is that he was able to deal with both sides. Why hasn't Romneys campaign even fighting for this state ?
He has Romneisa..

@xxx ooo: X, you're on fire! LOL!
LOVE IT.
Here's a little Romnesia when it comes to values or is it diversion? Watching the Catholic charity event last night, inspired me to write a little something. A large number of faith leaders speak with more volume against a couple of issues at the expense of so many other universal values they and we, believe in. Unless you write in an extreme candidate that exactly follows your faith you have to go down the list of these universal values and determine which party or candidate serves more.
Contraception, gay rights and abortion take center stage in the values debate, pushing back far more critical causes, but I'll get back to these at the end. Historically proven economics that serve everyone and strengthening healthcare are both strongly supported by the vast majority of spiritual leaders including Catholic bishops, scholars, health organizations and nuns. Catholicism is the largest faith in South America and there is a significant Latino community within the Catholic Church, because they understand we need to build an immigration policy that lifts up those here to help build this nation. There is no greater sacrifice than those who put their lives on the line for others and our soldiers in the pursuit of peace deserve intelligent and deliberate leaders who do not overextend our precious troops. Droughts, storms, pollution and dependency cost us dearly, in so many ways, we have to be the leader in producing renewable energy technology to strengthen our country and the planet we are gifted with.
Back to the issues you most often hear about, abortion will always be a difficult issue and because of this it's not something that anyone else can decide for anyone else, at least in a free country. Making sure insurance companies pay for contraception when people can't afford it means a whole lot less unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. If you're opposed to contraception you're still free not to use it. There are far more verses in the Bible about not judging others then there are about who you can and can't marry. Let me finish by listing off just a few other issues to consider including, torture, the death penalty, caring for the poor and disadvantaged all over the world, leaders except responsibility to learn from their mistakes, respecting all faiths and non-believers, diversity, working with the international community, respecting everyone through civil discourse and a willingness to compromise so we can work together to get things done. You decide who best represents your values.
Truth is I would not encourge that anyone have an abortion. I just think it is your right to decide. I never was in the position, but in my youth saw many girls take or make many decissions to solve the problem of un-wanted pregancy. You could go to a home, and stay and give up your child to adoption. People went to hacks, because they saw no other way. Others who could afford it went to places like Mexico and had abortions. I also some keep their children and parent and child both suffer from it. I just do not understand why any one wants to get involved in making that decission for anyone. I think they are taking away freedoms.......They say they don't want bigger government, yet here they are trying to make things government business. This decission is off limits as far as I am concerned.
That's fine as long as you do your own thinking...in a logical way and not a emotional way.
I personally don't know if I'd ever opt to abort. I have one kid and am having another. My first child--I was terrified. I wasn't sure I was ready, but I never thought of aborting once. HOWEVER, I've always supported friends who have opted to abort. It never entered my mind to convince them to do otherwise. It never crossed my mind that what they were doing was wrong. I held their hand and marched right with them to the clinic. My choices are personal, just as theirs are. It's probably why I liked Biden's stance so much in his debate with Ryan. What I understood from what he said was that while his faith teaches that abortion is not an option (he's Catholic--to which I can relate in terms of how those nuns hammer beliefs into our heads), he knows he has no right to impose that faith on anyone else, and so I admire him for his integrity.
I bet one of Obama's daughters came up with that little blessing.......ROMNESIA
Does this mean we can start calling conservatives "Romnesiacs"?
I have a the feeling that as we begin to find out more and more about this terrible, debilitating condition that we will discover one of it's primary causes is an overdose of Fox News.
and lush rimbrain. That is another debilitating condition all together. It is called make up things and they become true (in their minds) I think it is more lush delusional.
Someone call the CDC they must quarantine FOX they are spreading it far wide & high!

Thank you.
UPDATE: Further diagnosed disorders

Derp,
Your attempt at humor is a big FAIL!
Conservatards like yourself are devoid of humor.
Just sayin.
This was fantastic.
Perfectamundo!!
Please visit Romnesia.org and donate generously. This is foundation dedicated to finding cure for the deadly disease called Romnesia that afflicts some very rich people with a distinct possibility of others getting infected.
Thank you
Willard took the cure but he's immune.
ROTFFL.
Interesting... somebody registered romnesia as a "dot com", "dot net" and "dot org" in January - specifically, on 1/8/2012.
:D

An original thought from the leader of the free world.
Bottom of the ninth men on second and third and Obama at bat. Calmly he watches the first pitch go by..stee-rike , he shuffles and grins as he tells the catcher "Slider? You know better than that". Grinning like a man possessed he again watches as the second pitch goes by..steee-rike two!. He looks knowingly at the catcher "Heck of a curve he has,it goes all over the place". Grin gone he focuses not on the pitcher but on the center field wall and WHAM, home run ---Obamacare covers pre-existing conditions!
I will decrease the deficit by half, hit that one out of the park. HOME RUN. Or running home to Hawaii.
ROMNEY: I — I think interesting the president just said something which — which is that on the day after the attack he went into the Rose Garden and said that this was an act of terror.
OBAMA: That's what I said.
ROMNEY: You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack, it was an act of terror. It was not a spontaneous demonstration, is that what you're saying?
OBAMA: Please proceed governor.
ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror.
OBAMA: Get the transcript.
CROWLEY: It — it — it — he did in fact, sir. So let me — let me call it an act of terror...
OBAMA: Can you say that a little louder, Candy?
CROWLEY: He — he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take — it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that.
Now THAT is a HOME RUN. robme should go back to one of his many homes with his soiled magic underwear.
"I've seen President Obama give a whole lot of speeches,...." yes that is true because that is all he does - talk, talk, talk with no action and no leadership.
Before you lefties go off on a tangent, let me remind you of something -
"I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."-Voltaire
So we will all just go on talking, and that means that the no leadership qualification, won't be stoping the man with romanesia .......Voltaire was a very bright man. The more willard talks the dipper pit he digs for himslef to fall into.
Tell that to Osama bin Laden and the workers in the auto industry. And all the non-dead troops safe at home. Mission Accomplished.
You mad?
If you think that all President Obama does is talk and can't remember- the passage of Obamacare and Lily ledbetter, the death of Osama Bin Laden, the historic highs of the stock market, the months and months of job creation, the reduction of unemployment numbers, increase in consumer confidence, increase in new housing starts, reduction in foreclosures, the withdrawl from Iraq, the American Recovery Act, Wall Street Reform, the Consumer Protection Bureau, the rescue of the auto industry, the repeal of DADT, the ousting of Hosni Mubarak, the expansion of Pell grants, the cutting of the payroll tax, signing a new GI bill, the new START treaty, removing Bush era stem cell research restrictions....
...you may have Romnesia!
Thanks awfully, Old Wanker, for coming by and giving us our daily demonstration of the fact that Mencken was right when he said "In this world of pain and sorrow, there is much to be thankful for; as for me, I am thankful I am not a Republican."
Thankful Mom-3182614 that would be the deeper pit.
and on leadership, like the empty chair for the last four years.
Derp,
Again, there goes that ignorant trailer park conservatard "logic" again.
Just letting you know...
I'm not sure theres a cure for Willard....Greed is incurable.
Greedy willy.
He better hope he never needs blood I understand that blue is hard to come by..
Well, he certainly isn't a red blooded American! just lives in a red state of mind.

@Thankful Mom: That's for sure TM!
I began calling Obama care , ROBAMA care 2 years ago.In all my years, I have never witnessed nor thought I would,a candidate succeeding so far using a fuel of blatant lies.
Thanks awfully, Old Wanker, for coming by and giving us our daily demonstration of the fact that Mencken was right when he said "In this world of pain and sorrow, there is much to be thankful for; as for me, I am thankful I am not a Republican."
Sorry, President Obama got there first.
Apparently it's true, Republicans/Tbaggers/rightwing nutjobs don't have a sense of humor.
"Romnesia" is a humorous play on Mr. Romney's name that points out Mr. Romney's well-documented inability to remember what his position on any policy is for more than the amount of time it takes to stand up in front of a different crowd. Mr. Romney can easily rebut any charge that he indeed does suffer from "Romnesia" by taking a position and sticking to it.
But then, what will he say to those whose votes he needs?
Sorry, "Robamacare" just isn't funny. Not because I support President Obama, but because it implies a motive behind Obamacare that just isn't there; namely that seeing that everyone in this country is covered by HCI, even if the Federal government has to help pay for it, is somehow robbing someone, somewhere of something.
We won't even go into the rightwing nut-jobs fascination with "things" being rammed down their throats...

Derp,
I am thankful that you are not a Democrat.
So am I
Conservatards often lack awareness, Derp.
Which is why you are glad you are not a Democrat.
Just saying.
