as it did in illinois this morning. showed up at my deep blue precinct in chicago's 44th ward about an hour after it opened and stood in line for 45 minutes.
Dang.
Just finished voting 2 hours ago.
Line was about 20 minutes long about 60 miles west of Los Angeles.
There were about 20 people voting and 2 election workers looking up records. Every single voter was over 50.
Note: California has no voter ID law, so you can have a relative or close friend that does have ID verify your identity for you.
Can I have a witness?
Hi Laura.
Thanks for the article.
wasn't it rather damp "60 miles west of Los Angeles"?
Texas mat be red but it's getting more purple it seems. Wouldn't that be something to have Houston and Austin go for Obama?
Also, that link for NC in #17 is very cool. Hope folks are watching closely.
Ventura county is west of LA.
The coastline faces south.
The fact early voting has started in Texas,
Clearly, the Republican party vexes...
They think votin' needs trimmin'
'Midst minorities and women...
Their loss will strike in their solar plexus...
Texas is about about 50% Hispanic.
Yeah, but many Hispanics are voting for Romney. I had a "conversation" with my friend over dinner last night and he is more concerned with the moochers. He would not listen to other issues.
@KOBOL - This is an interesting comment. Here in Missouri, my neighbor is voting for Romney for the exact same reason. They are afraid of the moochers. Mind you, my neighbor would technically be classified by Romney as being a moocher because her and her husband are on disability, Medicaid and food stamps, but that does not matter to them. They feel they have worked and earned what is coming to them. Everyone else in their eyes must be lower income, black and never worked a day in their life.
Funny thing about Romney.
The #1 "moocher" right now is the US military, and Romney wants to increase that spending despite the fact that we are no longer at war.
Romney says he wants to eliminate "moochers" that retired on social security after paying into it so that the wealthy (like Romney) don't have to pay for the wars Bush started in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Maybe it's me, but it does appear that the lines for early voting are longer and longer!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!
going to try to go tomorrow to vote, I live nearby so I will go try every day if I have to,or just sit in the parking lot,so I can be one the first to get in....vote vote vote vote obama/biden 2012
I think that long early voting lines means more Obama/Biden and Dem voters coming out...lets keep that disparity to 30 points!
Houston Chronicle Newspaper endorsed Romney this year after having endorsed Obama in 2008.
Just saying...
What I don't understand is that Bain Capitol owns the voting machines in OHio and I think PA. Now we are told not to worry but I am not of that sort. What can be done to stop this, in my eyes, voter fraud? Who is watching this company with a conflict of interest on top of this MittyTwitty's family has ownership also, so the conflict of interest is all over the place. Where is the long arm of the law? That is what I want to know!
I read the same thing!!! Romney will always make his own rules - Commander-And-Thief!
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2012/10/20/romney-family-investment-ties-to-voting-machine-company-that-could-decide-the-election-causes-concern/
It's not just Tagg. Ann Romney also owns an interest as well as another family member.
So understand this: Ann, the wife of the Republican nominee for the office of the President of the United States owns an interest in the electronic voting machines in the state predicted to decide a very close general election.
It's their turn indeed.
Gonna give it a day or two here in Austin.
I hear there have been substantial lines--a GOOD thing for Democrats in this gawdawful red state.
Voted this morning in Northside of San Antonio (Most RED), the lines in the afternoon were long. The city newspaper endorsed OBAMA! But, now all the FOX watchers are cancelling their subscriptions. Turn out is huge, maybe this is a good thing? But, boy, do I feel like a minorty, minority!
Voted in Dallas and there were several in line about a 30 min wait at l pm. San Antonio, Dallas, Austin all voted Obama in 2008...Texas will someday become blue, but because of recent report of Romney owning voting machines (all in TX) please sign this petition and pass it on regarding an immediate investigation in violation of conflict of interest for a candidate's family owning voting machines w/Bain and GOP major contributors involved! http://www.change.org/petitions/attorney-general-eric-holder-investigate-tagg-romney-owning-voting-machines-in-ohio?fb_action_ids=3931793659866&fb_action_types=change-org%3Arecruit&fb_ref=__bwCEoEtBmD&fb_source=timeline_og&action_object_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A355187317906306%7D&action_type_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A%22change-org%3Arecruit%22%7D&action_ref_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A%22__bwCEoEtBmD%22%7D
Already signed it. But, we should not be surprised that the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.
Signed and posted on Facebook.
Will Fox News sit up and bark over this or will they condone it with their silence like they do so much other Republican corruption?
I also signed it and made a suggestion that every state should vote by mail so than no-one gets left out of voting.
So if they own stake in voting machines in Texas, is that maybe why we've had a dumb Repub for governor (first Bush, now Perry) for so long? I still find it hard to believe that these guys actually won this position so it seems like maybe it could've been rigged???
My SO's son just posted that he voted in TX today. I commented that it was probably useless because of the antiquated Electoral college. But I believe that it is a sign of voter enthusiasm.
We still need to make a statement in Texas!!! Lots of other races and a city tax issue on ballot.
Unfortunately Texas runs deep blood red. I stood in line 20 minutes, but I returned to the library, the line was 3 times as long as the AM. What is really bothering me is the fact that Romney family purchased interest in the Austin company Hart Intercivic that will be supplying the e-voting machines through the US, including OH, CO, etc. He will be our next Commander-And-Thief!
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2012/10/20/romney-family-investment-ties-to-voting-machine-company-that-could-decide-the-election-causes-concern/
I feel exactly as you do and the computer voted on today was one of them. Read all the Tx computers owned by them! And many in swing states! http://www.politicolnews.com/tagg-romney-invested-in-ohio-electronic-voting-machines/ Dallas went for Obama in 2008, not sure what will happen now? I always vote even though Tx Red, I think it won't be Red for long and had a dream went Blue this election??? Sign this petition to Eric Holder, this is clearly a confilict of interest and needs immediate attention! http://www.change.org/petitions/attorney-general-eric-holder-investigate-tagg-romney-owning-voting-machines-in-ohio?fb_action_ids=3931793659866&fb_action_types=change-org%3Arecruit&fb_ref=__bwCEoEtBmD&fb_source=timeline_og&action_object_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A355187317906306%7D&action_type_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A%22change-org%3Arecruit%22%7D&action_ref_map=%7B%223931793659866%22%3A%22__bwCEoEtBmD%22%7D
600 short of 50k signed ... Have not seen any reports on the news about this or MSNBC??? Why?
Just signed, it's over 50k now and moving up fast.
I am a Houston-area voter. I went to vote on my lunch break and the line was manageable. I was about 7th in line, but every voting machine was taken. The entire process took about 25 minutes. Interestingly, I was in line behind a Houston City Councilwoman. Most of the talk outside the room was about women's issues and the extremist candidate for Texas Senate, Ted Cruz. While most believe the rural areas of the state will put him over the top, the Democratic enclaves are pushing hard to elect Rep. Paul Sadler to the Senate from Texas. Gotta love the democratic process!
And the Houston Chronicle endorsed not only Romney, but the extremist Cruz too. Here's their explanation: "There's a lot we admire about Sadler, particularly his demonstrated ability to reach across the aisle and work productively with his political opponents for the good of Texas. But Sadler is practically poking at embers to keep his campaign from burning out altogether. Why? Because of a simple lack of interest and support from his own party. Sadler's candidacy is well-meaning, but an exercise in futility."
So Sadler might be the better candidate for Texas but since he doesn't have any money backing him, he doesn't deserve an endorsement. Now that's backward thinking. Oh my, how long will we have to wait to turn this state blue?
Not very long , that's why our REPUBLICAN led legislature tried to enact that right wing voter suppressing id law. They are afraid of the LATINO vote. With the candidates we have this year, they should be more AFRAID of the woman's vote. I am woman, watch me VOTE!!
i vote absontey. i voted for obama/bidan. this country has been through alot in its histery,
it took grate leders to brings us out. obama is one of those grate leders that has keept as many promases has he could, considering that this congres has done more to hinder recovery than it did to help it. i don't understand how so many people liston to romney. he has twisted the truth so many times i am suprised that he can keep up with all the twisted lies.
Voting tomorrow in Southeast Houston. Am definitely voting for our President and Mr. Sadler, too. No TEA PARTY for me.
Rachel, The first day in NC early voting had long lines at the various early voting sites. I went today and no lines, smooth, well organized, and helpful volunteers to answer any questions. The place I found was sent to me after being contacted by email from Obama campaign, gave them my address, and zip and up came the wake County Community College. Took me about 10 minutes from start to finish. The site was about 10 minutes from my home. This week they are adding more early voting locations. Where I went was open from 11 - 7 every night including weekends until Nov 3rd. There were whites, blacks and Hispanic, both young and old.
Thank God Gov Purdue vetoed the photo ID law attempted here.
everything comes down to one word,......care,......with care,...we don't hurt one another,....we don't steal from one another,....for we care,...pain and suffering ,....always comes from those whom don't care,......so do you,....or you don't,....it's up too us all,....to really care,...for it's the human thing to do,.....there is a disease out among us all,.....killing our society,....like a cancer,.....alcoholism was an unknown disease at one time,...we made great steps in dealing with it,......this one is a mental disorder,....as bad as being schizophrenic ,....greed is just this one,....it's so completely taking away our humanity,....our DNA tells us that our human ancestors were at one time at a population of only 1000 people,....to survive,....the ones that became close,...pooling all of the resources,.....loving,...sharing,...living,.....that's what makes us human,.....and this greed,.....this mental disease,....is destroying us,...
Voted first day in NC. Lines were long at lunch but went quickly. Looking at the comparison of numbers between where we were in early voting in 2008 and 2012, this day (15 days out) in 2008, NC was at about 351k early votes with ~60k of those coming from Wake and Mecklenburg counties, which heavily favored Obama. As of today for the general election, NC is at ~487k with ~100k in those same two counties. I think NC (even with polling--I get 3-5 calls per day) is going to be closer than folks think if those counties hold and keep growing. Interesting site to track the daily vote totals in NC: http://www.carolinatransparency.com/votetracker/
Thank you. This seems useful to know.
We have heard the phrase many times that " It takes a community to raise a child." Romney doesn't have that in his heart. He only cares for his own and his money. He will lie, cheat and steal to make money or win an election if he can. I fear that the US would lose world ranking if this mad man takes office in Jan. He wants war with Iran. He wants to do away with public schools and foodstamps. He wants this country to be like it was in the 1930's when people starved in the streets and slept in tents or under bridges. He could care less what happens to the US. He has enough money and surely a bunker somewhere to hide as society collapses. He is sick and perverted.
Just watched the NEWS and looks like the library I voted at this morning experienced a black-out - News says no votes were lost, but how are we to know? I also noticed a sign posted at the door that stated no cameras, smart phones, dumb phones, ipads, etc needed to be OFF. It apparently was a Texas law. Anyone else have this type of law in their state? If we cannot have these electronics on, how could one record voter suppression?
I hear you. We've gotten so inundated with the antics of Republican corruption that we're jumping at everything.
I sincerely hope your library was only what it was, a black out...sigh.....
To Kobol, are you aware that Kobol is an anagram for Kolob, the planet that Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, said was the center of the universe and where the Gods live? Kobol was used as the home planet of the series Battlestar Galaxia, which was done deliberately to relate to the belief that the Gods live there?
Wow... loved reading the comments about the long voting lines. I live in a solid red state and throughout the campaign season I have watched for Bishop Romney's bumper stickers, only about a dozen. Lots more for Obama! Makes my day each time!
Please folks, make sure everyone you know is voting, drive them if you have to.
I've been working the polls in NC and everything has been going well so far. "Democracy in action" one voter in particular said to me.
North Carolina ought to do what my state ( Washington ) did when we had low voter turnout - VOTE BY MAIL. I received mine on Saturday and filled it out and mailed it off already. If anyone asks me who I voted for,I won't tell them until after election day ( SUSPENSE !!!!!!! ).
I voted this past Thursday in Gwinnett County, GA, an Atlanta suburb. Long line...took an hour and a half. The poll workers were very efficient moving people in and out. The wait was definitely due to the volume of people turning out to vote. The crowd was very diverse in both age and race. My in-state college son voted on Friday and the line and wait time were about the same. My out-of-state college son has mailed his absentee ballot.
Early voting started in Wisconsin today also. My husband voted around noon, I voted around 4:15. Both times, not a soul there to vote. I am in the midst of a bunch of old conservative republicans, and am nervous about this election.
Good for you, feels good and hopefully they will be counted.
There is something that struck me a few times when I hear "conservative". It seems conservatism no longer includes conservation of resources and not being wasteful.
Conservatism has turned away from that in favor of supply side economics that includes spending on unnecessary quagmire invasions propping up corporations, obstructing voting process, privatization of military, education and prisons, etc.
Just an observation.
Had to miss the debate tonight, worked. Said a prayer at 9 c'clock for the US tonight.
The Poor Voter on Election Day
by John Greenleaf Whittier
The proudest now is but my peer,
The highest not more high;
To-day, of all the weary year,
A king of men am I.
To-day alike are great and small,
The nameless and the known
My palace is the people's hall,
The ballot-box my throne!
Who serves to-day upon the list
Beside the served shall stand;
Alike the brown and wrinkled fist,
The gloved and dainty hand!
The rich is level with the poor,
The weak is strong to-day;
And sleekest broadcloth counts no more
Than homespun frock of gray.
To-day let pomp and vain pretence
My stubborn right abide;
I set a plain man's common sense
Against the pedant's pride.
To-day shall simple manhood try
The strength of gold and land
The wide world has not wealth to buy
The power in my right hand!
While there's a grief to seek redress,
Or balance to adjust,
Where weighs our living manhood less
Than Mammon's vilest dust, --
While there's a right to need my vote
A wrong to sweep away,
Up! clouted knee and ragged coat!
A man's a man to-day!
Anagram for "ELECTION RESULTS" (with added punctuation): LIES! LET'S RECOUNT!
This private-company-owning-public-voting-machines jazz is as corrupt as it gets. No matter how many safeguards you put on electronic voting, there's always a hack or back door into the system that fuels corruption. Where private business and/or partisan groups are involved in owning of voting machines, something fishy is going on.
Why is the government allowing it???? If Obama retains the presidency, I hope he looks into this issue.
