Republican Richard Mourdock, his party's U.S. Senate candidate in Indiana, has earned a reputation as one of 2012's most notable extremists, but the candidate clearly broke new ground last night in a debate with Rep. Joe Donnelly (D).
Explaining why he believes the government should force women impregnated by rapists to take their pregnancy to term, Mourdock argued, "[E]ven when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen" (thanks to Joe Sonka for the tip).
It didn't take long for Democrats to connect the comments to the national race.
The timing for Mitt Romney couldn't be much worse. With two weeks until Election Day, the Republican nominee is eager to narrow the gender gap, and shift attention away from his party's "war on women" agenda. But just this week -- literally, Monday -- Romney appeared in a new ad announcing his support for Mourdock's candidacy.
As it happens, the only general-election Senate candidate in the nation to benefit from a Romney ad is also the Senate candidate who believes rape pregnancies are divine creations.
Last night, as the controversy went national, Romney spokesperson said the former governor "disagrees" with Mourdock's comments, but refused to say whether Romney still supports Mourdock's candidacy. It's not a trick question; a yes-or-no will suffice.
Of course, Romney went much further when denouncing Todd Akin's "forcible rape" comments.
What's more, the larger context reinforces the fact that the Republican Party has a meaningful policy problem.
Most GOP candidates are less ridiculous when defending their position, but dozens of Republicans this year are arguing that the government should, in fact, force women impregnated by rapists to take their pregnancy to term. The vast majority of Americans reject this, but the GOP, in 2012, doesn't seem to care.
Indeed, none other than Mitt Romney's running mate has said the "method of conception" is irrelevant in his calculation of reproductive rights.
As for articulating this position in a nauseating way, Mourdock now shares the stage with Republican Sharron Angle, who said during her Senate campaign that impregnated rape victims should make "a lemon situation into lemonade."

Maybe Mitt has worked to change his campaign rhetoric to hide his conservative core and lure in swing voters with sunny talk of peace and bipartisanship, but the heart of the Republican Party continues to lurch farther to the right than ever before in history. Romney is in bed with right wing neanderthals like Mourdock and Akin who believe women are useless parasites that can be controlled by male politicians. And not only that, but they openly attack basic science and peddle thew most insane and unhinged theories to back up their hateful positions. Make not mistake; if Mitt wins the right wing crazies will be calling the shots in America. - progressive
neanderthals are still modern, these are dinosaurs
How did this party get such a foothold in America? Money, white privilege? Sometimes I think we are still fighting the Civil War, or a returning to the Dark Ages. It is scary.
"How did this party get such a foothold in America?"
Because just like in Germany under Hitler, the left acquiesced and abdicated each and every time these supposed "Christian" religuluounists complained that "their religuluous liberties" were being infringed, no matter what the issue! And just as the religuluounists have freedom for their religuluoun, I too should have the freedom from them and their false idol worshiping cults!
And yes, WE are still fighting "the Civil War" - when the GOTP started courting the votes of the angry "southern whites" after the passage of the Civil Rights act - they emboldened these sheeple by continually blowing their "dog whistles" to "those other people that are stealing your jobs/endangering your community/stick your stereotype here".
These people are a cancer on the body politic, they are the Christian Taliban that would have "the government" enforce their will on US all! This is what you do when you are afraid, and trust me these sheeple are afraid of everything that is beyond their control!
And because they are a danger to themselves and our republic they must be voted out of all public offices; maybe then they will wake up and see the damage that they are doing by supporting policies that are disenfranchising US (90%) all!
This party got a foothold because a whole bunch of stupid americans voted for it in 2010. mitt will win for the same reason.
This is the norm for the Evangelical Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. We laugh but it's not funny these folks really seriously want to pass a law that reads "If s Woman is pregnant due to a rape she should be chained to a gurney and forced to give birth to the rapist baby with no say in the matter and on top of that give that rapist child visitation rights this has been the position of these Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Steve King, Louie Gohmert and Michelle Bachmann's of the world then when we on the left refer to them as "Wingnuts" it's us that are wrong.
I would go a step farther and say that most of them blame the actual rape itself on the women.
Forcing women to bear children is seen as a punishment for unseemly behavior.
The right frames the argument as being concerned with the "rights" of the unborn but it really about keeping women subservient to men.
This isn't even the lowest position on the matter. In order for the rape baby to not become a 47%er parasite and criminal, I would imagine a sizeable number of these folks would love to mandate that the victim marry her assailant. You know, two parent households and all.
That is what the Old Testament advocates. Look it up: Deuteronomy 22:28-29. I would be unsurprised if there were some Republicans who would advocate that.
@SRA1984, and in Deuteronomy 23: 1-2, "If a man's testicles are crushed or his penis is cut off, he may not be admitted to the assembly of the Lord. If a person is illegitimate by birth, neither he nor his descendants for ten generations may be admitted to the assembly of the Lord."
This, of course, was written to the Israelites, the people who were promised the New Land. However, if we are to take it literal today (which I don't), in the case of rape let's just crush or cut off the man's penis who raped the woman. Then they will not be allowed in the assembly of the Lord.
Also for the women who are going to have illegitimate children from the cause of rape, these children and their children for ten more generations to come will also not be allowed to be in the assembly of the Lord.
Why would any "christian" want this for a child? If these politicans are so staunchly "Christian" I believe it is very "UNCHRISTIAN" of them to say "it is a gift from God" when God doesn't even want the child to be in the assembly of the Lord.
How does any of this make sense? Put your religious positions aside...NO ONE should tell ANYONE what a woman should do with their unborn child. And as I just wrote to Rachel Maddow on a personal message, if these male politicians want to force women into not being able to use contraceptives, or have an abortion if the woman thinks that is best for them and their child, let's make sure we put on the table that men need to have a vasectomy-even at an early age. I know they would argue their right to have children would be taken away, but NO...they could plan ahead and have their sperm harvested for when they are really ready. This way women wouldn't have to undergo abortion in any case. It's not like it's a fun day at the clinic to go have an abortion...it's just what every woman looks forward to...COME ON...these decisions are never taken lightly and to take women's rights away makes me sick to my stomach.
Mourdock argued, "[E]ven when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."
Rapin' and impregnatin'...Truly, the Lord's work is never done.
You know , I really don't much care for Mourdoch's god . If I was going to believe in one I think I'd pick a kinder gentler one who doesn't micromanage this sort of thing including football , baseball and all other sports.
Well stated! Aaaeeeemayen.. The Lord's work, that's rich!
I really do think that religion causes a mental disorder in some people.
Hey, maybe that can be a new defense for defendants in rape cases "I was just doing god's work"
The smallness of his God amazes me. Now, my God is apparently much more powerful. She doesn't allow those little souls to suffer an abortion..... they just get moved to another body or wait for a better time and place to be born.
The phrase "God works in mysterious ways" sums up this guy's twisted view. So if God wants it this way, what's a woman to do? Just shut up and bear it is the GOP answer.
Oh, I think Republicans are pretty much inured to "gaffes". If one said rape only takes place on UFO's, it would just be proof of how big their tent is.
It's not a gaffe. It's genius, so Romney won't disavow this comment. I was thinking that the Republicans need to get together and agree that there's no such thing as rape induced pregnancy, since as we all know, women can shut that whole thing down in the case of legitimate forcible rape. Now I realize that, confronted with the fact that pregnancy can indeed be the end result of rape, Mourdock is essentially saying that, if for some reason the woman fails (yes, it would be the woman's failure to stop the pregnancy, and why did she dress that way in the first place? She was asking for it. Some women rape easy) to shut that whole thing down and becomes pregnant, it's because it was God's will. Akin should call to thank him for giving him an out.
Don't attack. Sarcasm/snark.
The add is out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdnnETAyGmM&feature=share
If, indeed, "God intended it to happen", then it follows that rapists are just doing God's work.
(Maybe we are wrong about all those Catholic priests!)
Nicely put. However, you use the phrase "it follows" - this implies logical thinking patterns, and evaluating information to determine if it makes any sense, and these things are not part of the Teatard mindset.
I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to ask the candidate if, in the case of the unthinkable happening to them, he would thank his wife's or daughter's rapist for following God's plan for them. Or maybe rape is only God's plan when it results in a pregnancy. Who are we to decide God's views on rape?
If you were to ask a RWNJ what his position on rape would be if it involved his wife or daughter, the answer would be that his wife or daughter would never put themselves in a position to be raped; i.e. the woman is to blame, a virtuous woman doesn't need to worry about being raped, the rape victim asked for it, etc. etc. I'm old enough to remember "a woman can run faster with her skirt up than a man can with his pants down" argument being seriously offered as a reason that roe v. wade was unnecessary. I've heard people say they are voting Republican because all of this is "just talk" and that nothing will come of it. No, they DO mean what they say.
While I agree with Tommy1733 that logical thinking is not part of the teatard mindset, let's take this one step further - if it is God's will that a woman is to be raped, that woman should not try to fight it or escape (actually, any crime victim) because she would literally be fighting the will of God. Of course then it wouldn't be a forcible "legitimate" rape. And she should thank God should she be blessed with child. And there you have it, connect the dots and the logical conclusion is that rape is a blessing.
Those who stomp and scream on the right are getting their way. It bothers me that any sane individual would dismiss the power the far right religokooks have.Mitt, unlike Ryan, has a somewhat mid-stream record on abortion yet his party has forced him to go farther and farther to the right.
If you think the crazies are not running the republican party then I suggest you go back and look at their platform. Remember they even got the democratic party to bow to their inclusion of God in place of Creator.
It reminds me of how that damned little dog Toto pulled the curtain back on the Wizard.
This is the unreasoning reality that underlays the policies of the extreme religious zealots who pull the GOP strings.
Mitt, whose son Tagg built in a forced abortion clause into his surrogate pregnancy contract, is worse than a hypocrite. He is an entitled rich man who believes his pronouncements do not apply to him, his family and their wealth unit peers. A female commentator Kate Boland in my local Fl. paper wrote about women's issues and defined reproductive freedom as one of a few 'narrow issues' that aren't a primary focus for women. Planning a family is a primary financial issue for women and any man who cares about women. Legislators have no business dictating anything about the most important decisions in any woman's life. If this does not effect you, it will certainly effect someone you care about at some point in your life and their life.
God never intended for any woman to be raped, period. How could they say such a hateful thing against Our Father? He doesn't give us a lesson and he never punishes. That seems to be the sole purpose of the Republican party, they have ordained themselves judge and jury. It's not a good idea to try and step on Gods' back, use him at your leisure, walk all over him and put words and thoughts in his mouth. You can't outsource God for your own selfish agenda.
If you honestly believe that everything that happens in the world is due to the Will of God™, then rapes are no exception. You can't push responsibility to Satan, or Free Will Turned To Evil, or whatever, since that only happens because God allows it and could keep it from happening if He wanted.
So, yes: God (assuming He exists the way the wingnuts all claim He exists) allows rapes.
Thy will be done. I interpret the word will differently. Not anything that happens in this world is God's will. Now, in heaven that's a different story.
Not anything that happens in this world is God's will.
[I'm going to assume you meant "everything" there, otherwise your sentence makes no sense.]
Of course, it absolutely is God's will. If God knows something is going to happen, has the power to change or prevent it and doesn't, that means it was God's will for it to happen. Sorry if you don't like that, but it's an absolutely unavoidable conclusion given the attributes Christians give their God.
According to Christians? Jesus isn't even a Christian.
God doesn't give a rat's ass about women. I thought that was common knowledge?
True colors, and not a moment too soon.
Spot on!
For verification, just take a look at the Old Testament.
but god also talks about stoning adulterers. newt gingrich anyone?
Sigh. Is there another Bible out there that's been published that I don't know about? God never stoned anyone. They will however stone you when your walking down the street, they'll stone you even when your driving in your car.
Has anyone asked those stoners who their God is? -Kevo
This is a prime example of how Mr.Mourdock's god is truly incompetent, indifferent and crazy.
I hope Democrats all over the nation make a big deal out of this, because this is a pure Republican belief. His view is not different from Congressman Ryan's.
I get freakout sometimes, just imagining that conservatives and Neoconservatives may take the white house, and the Senate. And given that the man running for the White house stands for nothing and is an empty suit, they won't hesitate to push him aside and plunge the world again in chaos.
God will never stand for it.
Obama says that such situations, a pregnancy resulting from rape is not an "optimal" work of God
Ok pat I'll play your silly game. What do you think?
Or haven't you gotten your opinion briefing yet today?
Stupidity reaches new low.
Obama says that such situations...
Did he? Where, exactly?
What about those Giants?
Pattie (Paddie? Patty? Paddy?) keeps talking about his Imaginary Friend. It's kind of touching.
If the rape was devinely purposed or inspired, how then should a rapist be held accountable?
Well, there should be written proof of the divine inspiration -- a permission slip, if you like, and notarized with the official Deity seal -- before it can be considered legitimate.
Your error here is to contend that somehow God "inspires" or "ordains" the act of evil. No, God is not the author of sin. Sin is NEVER divinely inspired. Here we move back to the book of Genesis and the story of Cain & Abel. As reflected upon in his encyclical Evangelium Vitae.
"Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him" (Gen 4:8): the
roots of violence against life
7. "God did not make death, and he does not delight in the death of the
living. For he has created all things that they might exist ... God created man
for incorruption, and made him in the image of his own eternity, but through the
devil's envy death entered the world, and those who belong to his party
experience it" (Wis 1:13-14; 2:23-24).
The Gospel of life, proclaimed in the beginning when man was created in the
image of God for a destiny of full and perfect life (cf. Gen 2:7; Wis 9:2-3), is
contradicted by the painful experience of death which enters the world and casts
its shadow of meaninglessness over man's entire existence. Death came into the
world as a result of the devil's envy (cf. Gen 3:1,4-5) and the sin of our first
parents (cf. Gen 2:17, 3:17-19). And death entered it in a violent way, through
the killing of Abel by his brother Cain: "And when they were in the field, Cain
rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him" (Gen 4:8).
This first murder is presented with singular eloquence in a page of the Book
of Genesis which has universal significance: it is a page rewritten daily, with
inexorable and degrading frequency, in the book of human history.
Your error is to assign to God the sin. A sin here which is not only against God himself but that against the very command to "love thy neighbor" as well as "Thou shalt not commit adultery". God cannot ordain nor can He commit to author an intrinsic evil which is rape or muder. As though God himself has authored or ordained throughout eternity to assign to man a "sin unto death".
In his encyclical The Slendor of Truth Pope John Paul II does the same. He begins his encyclical on Moral Theology centered on truth or as Pilate himself asked our redeemer, "What is Truth". Pope John draws our attentions on the scene where the rich young man comes to our Lord and askes, "Good Master, what must I do to inherit the kingdom of God." Our Lord replies, "Why do you call me good." "Only God the Father is Good". By nature, we are made in the image and likeness of God the father. Our natural design as God's creation is towards being "godlike, GOOD"". What Thomas a' Kempis calls the "Imitation of Christ".
In other words, Pope JP II draws us to reflect on passages of God's divine revelation to answer even todays' most difficult questions of good vs evil and the fulfillment of His divine plan for mankind. That divine revelation is found in both the Sacred Scripture and through God's divine deposits of faith, Sacred Tradition and His Church. Which all leads to an understanding of the Church's Catechism of the Catholic Church. Here you will find the "blue print" for your answer.
Now, as for the question of the product of rape ( to put it in generic and excuse me base terminology) a pregnancy born from a evil action, rape. You must also view the acts of redemption as given us through the life death and resurrection of the divine savior, Jesus Christ. It is only thru what is the most evil action of human history, the condemnation and betrayal and murder of Jesus on the cross. From this evil action eternal life is gained. Suffering begets divine favor.
The Church is clear that even in cases where the original action is towards "evil" an outcome which glorifies God can be the ultimate outcome. As with the example of the rape and murder of St Maria Goretti, her rapist and murderer comes to St Maria's mother after his prison term and begs the forgiveness of Maria's mother. St Maria's mother forgives this man, even taking him in as her own son until her death years later. From a repulsive and evil act there is enclosed in this story the divinely inspired story (you recall the good theif at the crucifiction and the favor Our Lord confers on him. "This day you will be with me in paradise") of forgiveness and redemption. This is an example for us.
As for the Church's teaching on this matter, I have given you a fundemental underpinning. Now YOU go and research the Catechism of the Church and find the answer for yourself. It IS in there. Yes, I am propagating the faith, smiling as I do so.
Now, each case is judged on a case by case scenario. However, in the case of rape and a subsequent pregnancy, what IF the father of the child is the natural father of other children between the two and this rape charge is after the fact by weeks even months where the mother & father are suddenly seperated by disorder in the relationship mabye even the fault of either the husband boyfriend vs the wife mother girlfriend or that in the reverse. That is just one of a thousand or more ways in which the scenario proposed here can be made complicated.
again PJ II teaches us:
36. Unfortunately, God's marvellous plan was marred by the appearance of sin
in history. Through sin, man rebels against his Creator and ends up by
worshipping creatures: "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and
worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator" (Rom 1:25). As a
result man not only deforms the image of God in his own person, but is tempted
to offences against it in others as well, replacing relationships of communion
by attitudes of distrust, indifference, hostility and even murderous hatred.
When God is not acknowledged as God, the profound meaning of man is betrayed and
communion between people is compromised.
In the life of man, God's image shines forth anew and is again revealed in
all its fullness at the coming of the Son of God in human flesh. "Christ is the
image of the invisible God" (Col 1:15), he "reflects the glory of God and bears
the very stamp of his nature" (Heb 1:3). He is the perfect image of the
Father.
From man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting" (Gen 9:5):
reverence and love for every human life
39. Man's life comes from God; it is his gift, his image and imprint, a
sharing in his breath of life. God therefore is the sole Lord of this life: man
cannot do with it as he wills. God himself makes this clear to Noah after the
Flood: "For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting ... and from
man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life" (Gen
9:5). The biblical text is concerned to emphasize how the sacredness of life has
its foundation in God and in his creative activity: "For God made man in his own
image" (Gen 9:6).
Human life and death are thus in the hands of God, in his power: "In his hand
is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind", exclaims Job
(12:10). "The Lord brings to death and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol
and raises up" (1 Sam 2:6). He alone can say: "It is I who bring both death and
life" (Dt 32:39).
But God does not exercise this power in an arbitrary and threatening way, but
rather as part of his care and loving concern for his creatures. If it is true
that human life is in the hands of God, it is no less true that these are loving
hands, like those of a mother who accepts, nurtures and takes care of her child:
"I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a child quieted at its mother's breast;
like a child that is quieted is my soul" (Ps 131:2; cf. Is 49:15; 66:12-13; Hos
11:4). Thus Israel does not see in the history of peoples and in the destiny of
individuals the outcome of mere chance or of blind fate, but rather the results
of a loving plan by which God brings together all the possibilities of life and
opposes the powers of death arising from sin: "God did not make death, and he
does not delight in the death of the living. For he created all things that they
might exist" (Wis 1:13-14).
I will leave you half way thru this marvelous work of Pope John Paul II it is up to YOU to research and find the answer to your question here. I have given you a root to your answer. You fulfill that truth.
As for me, I know it is similar to suicide, this is know to be a mortal sin. A sin unto death. BUT THAT DOES NOT mean that every person who dispairs who commits suicide goes to hell. Quite the contrary, each case is judged by God on a case by case manner.
As an old friend of mine Fr Charles Segulia once told me. In the seminary we studied the question, one which is NOT answered and no human knows the exact answer.
Did Judas Iscariot go to hell for betraying Jesus in the garden?
We DO NOT know.
Maybe there is your fault or problem. God is mysterious and you are trying to solve a mystery you do not understand. Sort of like Augustine trying to define and comprehend the Holy Trinity. It can NOT be humanly done.
google Evangelium Vitae, there is your answer.
It's so cute when Pattie (Paddie? Patty? Paddy?) gazes at his navel and talks to his Imaginary Friend.
Perhaps a prison term would open Mr. Mourdock's eyes when he must decide if rectal tears are god's will as well after Bubba welcomes him to the cell.
I feel that the Republican Party has more in common wityh the Taliban than with the average American. They are completely commited to forcing "faith based" policies down the throats of those that do not share their faith or their interpretation of Scripture. Hell, they want to make poeple that DON'T believe in the magical, invisible guy in the sky behave in accord with their dictates.
Freedom of religion means you can also chose freedom from religion. I guess that is OK with these creatures as long as you are legislatively required to behave as if you share their beliefs.
Where do these people come from; surely not the American I come from.
Religion and Freedom don't really belong in the same sentence together. It is a contradiction.
why does this happen only with rape? i have never heard anyone say - oh he was asking to be murdered, he deserved what he got. murder happens because there was a crazy man let loose on society. the same reason as rape.
Abortion isn't a subject that most people like to talk about. I myself really hate talking about it, but it needs to be in the forefront of disscussions to set the record straight, it's the law, period. Choice is the law and it needs to remain the law. I am pro-choice, I always hope the choice is life, but who am I to dictate the choices other women are forced to make?
I get it, abortion is so offensive to the religious right wing, but what's abserd is their stance in dictating what's best for others. I believe in God and I also believe He gave us free will, free will to make our own choices.
What we need more than anything now is strong leadership, women to organize and push back.
Ditto what posters above have said. The whole "God intended it to happen" argument can go both ways. I'm sure this ilk believes god don't make mistakes, so one wonders why they so desperately need secular laws to see that His will is done. I'm pretty sure the Big Guy Upstairs doesn't need their help...
Not to be crude, but maybe the other side of the coin in abortion is that God wants his little zygote-fetus-baby angels to come join him in Heaven. I thought that was a good thing in Christian worldviews--the moving on to a better world unpolluted by us cruel earthly beings who God just so happened to create in his image.
Anyway, Murdoch has proven himself, Romney and the GOP, to be scumbags who are more than happy to "pray away"-by-legislative fiat anything that doesn't fit into their PSEUDO-religious world view be it to the detriment of women, LGBT, or the poor. Ecclesiastical opportunism at its worst, says I.
They've probably been raping their wives every other day, so they are asking for Gods permission now. Kind of like Joseph Smith being caught with his pants down by his wife. Oh, Honey didn't you hear, God said it was okay. Give me a break. There is no spin room where God would enter.
Actually, Smith had at least 27 "wives," probably more like 30+. It's kind of hard to count since many of these women were married to other men and the "sacred marriage" to Smith needed to be kept on the down-low so as to avoid unpleasantness. Some of his wives were still children when God told Smith they needed to grace his bed, like Helen Mar Kimball who was 14 at the time Joseph "Horn Dog" Smith "married" her. Some of these women were so luscious that God told several Pioneers that they needed to have sex with her. Zina Diantha Huntington Jacobs Smith Young was "married" to Henry Jacobs, Joseph Smith, and Brigham Young (not one at a time), and had children by two of them. Smith fell down on the job in that case, probably because, by then in his late 40s, he just couldn't service all his wives any more. I'm sure God was pretty disappointed there.
If he was around today, he could have gotten hold of some of that new testerone medicine, Axiron, It turns your penis into an iron axe. How sick.
Let me guess: God chose these lucky women from a heavenly binder?
I mean, look, these are the kind of sentiments that belong to an ancient tribe living at the bottom of a volcano. But what's even more worrying is how it's becoming increasingly difficult to get yourself disqualified from American politics. We've become so polarized and intent on winning the war, nothing a candidate does or says will have an impact on the way we vote. It only makes a difference among the undecided, but they're so dumb all a candidate has to do is deny everything he's ever said, re-invent himself into something he's not and they'll buy it.
I got a glimpse of who the undecided voter is, Nell. How is she gonna help us, she's still dancing in the wind shielding herself from evildoers. The World according to Colbert. I was on the floor laughing hysterically at that one. We went to see that movie, and all my son did for a week was imitate her constantly, running around the house imitating Nell.
With all his insight, he can be the national eulogist: Bush didn't lie. God just intended for all those veterans to be killed or maimed.
I had an interesting discussion with my 14 year old grandkid about this. She is pretty freaked out, to say the least. Being young and somewhat reactionary, her first thought was to ask me if I can train her to shoot a 9mm this coming summer- when she'll be visiting. Hmmm.. that's doable, but WTF, I do have mixed feelings on that. I suggested two things she can start on now-- becoming an extraordinary 'sprinter' and learn the basic 'breaking holds' martial arts. I even offered to pay for a self defense course.
She was raised to believe that her body is exclusively HERS and no one has a right to interfere with how she decides to use her 'baby making' parts. No one. Ever.
She is allowed limited dating. So, I asked- "did you know that there are drugs that can make you sleepy and vulnerable..?". Wow, she does- she lectured me about Roofies (I guess..?) and other drugs. The girl does pay attention.. that's for sure.
So... I ask myself... what about the young girls that don't follow the media and don't much care about these ugly realities that exist ?? Victims ? Stupidity ? Overly propagandized ?
I feel for the youngsters.. how can they make sense of this BS ???
Yeah, But, Momma he's a magic man.
Beware: Bridge Out -Sarchasm Ahead!
RBNoah, I suspect you and your granddaughter have Liberal leanings. Which makes life difficult.
If you were a Republican, you would know that "Just say no" is the answer! Abstinence is Teh Way.
Unless you're a Rapepublican.
Day If he was republican he would have given her an aspirin and told her to hold it between her legs if someone trys to rape her.
Of course I'm a progressive. And most of my family are as well. A few exceptions, of course. No ones perfect (snark!)
I just find it sort of sad that I have a grand-daughter that is reacting to the current "woman's reproductive rights" BS with such feelings of hopelessness. And a huge desire to protect herself with a weapon. I was hoping to put this off for a while, because I don't think a 14 year old should be all that comfortable shooting a 9mm pistol. But, alas, if her mind is still made up by summer-- well, she can choose between several I have and a few more my son has. At least she'll learn firearm safety the correct way. My son (local) has already taught his 19 year old step-daughter to strip, clean, and shoot 'her' Glock. She is shooting a 6 inch group at 50 feet. "I" can't do that !!
Pity we have to teach our kids to proactively protect themselves.
Thank you Republicans and thank you, Christian taliban.
THIS is who they are.
THIS is who they've always been.
not a shock in the least
Has it really sunk in to everybody that Richard Mourdock and Todd Akin are running for the United States Senate? In 2012?
If not, sit back and let that sink in. Let it also sink in that Mourdock is the favorite.
Now ask yourself, how did this happen? Here's how: these people have not been stood up to. Democrats have cowered from engaging the bullies and liars. Not just the social bullies and liars, but the economic bullies and liars, too. Democrats have relentlessly ceded ideological ground. Democrats have too often found it just too bothersome and tedious to deal with the idiots and asswholes and we're now paying the price at a time when Republicans should be politically extincted.
Akin, Mourdock, Bachmann, Cain, West, ..., Ryan, Romney can't represent a bigger wake-up call that things have gone very wrong. Have you considered helping out? You can do so from home:

You're welcome. And good for you. If you get the chance, pass them along to friends. Thanks.
I can tell you why the democratic party is a party of decline. my Grandfather was a yellow dog democrat but decided during the carter administration that the party no longer represented his christian values and beliefs. The democratic party has become the party of Gay Rights, forced govermental policies, big government, anti-gun and basically wants to re write the constitution to fit their liberal nearing socialism beliefs! Thats why your a failing party and the true Americans will never let you have your way! You preach hatred and racism and accuse others of exactly what your doing! You all make me sick!
Get a load of this, everybody!
No, no, no. It's not Christian values that you're concerned about. No, sir. It's that a lot of the people in the Democratic party don't look like you and your grandfather. That's why YOU hate. That's why YOU preach hatred. We hear your dog whistles, pal. We hear them all. Too bad for you that "true" Americans aren't what you grew up with in your mind. And the failing party is the party of angry old white boys. Like you. You'll be dying off soon in great numbers. And that's a good thing. The world is not going to miss your type. Progress (and science) proceed one death at a time.
By the way I am black! And you are bitter and angry!
No, you're not. And I'm simply laughing at you.
I am laughing at you!
Bitter and Angry! Bitter and Angry!

I suppose Mr. Mourdock would have to take his thinking to its logical conclusion and also support "God intended a baby" as a defense for the rapist?
