Are the days of mild-mannered Harry Reid gone for good? Here at TRMS, we've had fun with this idea, but lately the Senate Majority Leader seems intent on shedding his Bruce Banner side for good.
For instance, at a press conference Monday in Carson City, Senator Reid said he would be a "one-man wrecking crew" on the topic of Mitt Romney's unreleased tax returns and went to on a characterize the Republican nominee as a:
“plastic man running for president who changes his position every chance he gets. He isn’t someone who should represent this country.”
Smash!
Senator Reid then took aim at the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and the resulting flood of billionaire money flowing into this year's campaigns. According to the Las Vegas Sun:
The Supreme Court had made decisions “that did awful things for this country. But none is worse than this,” he said.
He singled out Karl Rove, who founded the political nonprofit group Crossroads GPS, which is spending vast amounts of money in Nevada’s U.S. Senate campaign and the presidential race.
“After this election, Karl Rove is going to sit down for breakfast with 17 angry old white men,” including Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson, who “think the country is for sale.”
I don't know about you, but I kind of like him when he's angry.

Give 'em Hell, Harry!!
Yeah where was he the last four years? Nobody has done worse for Obama than Reid.
McConnell knocked him down, ate his lunch and kicked his dog, while Reid did nothing. Hard to imagine how much more could have been accomplished with a Democratic Majority Leader worthy of the name.
Wrecking crew? Jeez, Jeez. Jeez.
Maybe Harry does have some hard factual data he has been saving for his October surprise.
Ok, enterprising journalists... Time to pre write some material just in case....
I hope someone leaks the tax returns. America deserves to see how Mitt handles his personal finances since he is asking to be in charge of ours...
Beautifully stated, Kasia Wilson.
Keep hammering on the tax returns! Keep hammering!
It's insane and unbelievably frightening that MR may well win without ever disclosing his finances. How in the world do we let him get away with that? (Damn fickle press!)
Fickle? Not even close to describing the sickening nature of the press.
The LAST thing that needs to be done. Think about it.
If these got "leaked" all blame would go to President Obama.
Now if we could get one of Romney's tax people to "leak" the information, then I'd agree with you.
Shiny object shiny object ...Oh look over there a cat caught in a sewer pipe.
Oh quick look over there .....
Help me out here, Dogjudge, because I'm not sure I follow. Why would all blame go to Obama if MR's tax returns "leaked" out? If there was damning information in them, sure, someone (Drudge? Limbaugh?) would surely claim some sort of liberal conspiracy. But why would blame naturally flow that direction?
And wouldn't the source of the leak be especially circumspect? I may be wrong, but isn't "leaking" someone else's tax returns potentially criminal?
Talk is cheap. What about filibuster reform?
What about change of leadership. Reid supports online gaming, and Schumer blocked all attempts at getting rid of a key way that the 1% avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Although it enjoys popular support even among marxists like Bloomberg, Schumer blocked elimination of the carried interest loophole.
Let's get Patty Murray in leadership and let's stop this charade requiring 60% majorities and stupid rules allowing a single senator to put a hold on legislation in secret. The GOP will blow away those rules as soon as they are inconvenient for them.
Totally agree. Stay mad enough, Harry, to kill the filibuster for good on everything. Turn the Senate into part of the solution instead of cornerstone of the problem.
We need Nancy in power in the House though. If a Romney the loser narrative takes hold in the final stretch, the GOP faithful could decide to abstain from voting, allowing a sweep of enough house races to put her back in the driver's seat.
I don't see any reason Boehner will get religion about bipartisanship after Romney gets annihilated. If he has the votes, it will be more of the same.
Agree with Day (#5). It's nice to see Reid weigh in on the election, but anyone can do that. I want to see him do his job in the Senate and do something about the obstructionism and the shift to 60 votes as "business as usual".
I would love to see an 'ablative' filibuster rule... The first time a bill is brought up for cloture, 60 votes would be required; this preserves some acknowledgement for the minority... However, a few weeks later, the bill should be brought up again, with 2 less required for cloture... This requires the minority time to argue their case, looking for more votes, but after this has been done four times, the bill would pass with a simple majority, not stuck in permanent gridlock...
The 'single senator' rule, on the other hand, is unconscionable... It's a guarantee for gridlock on EVERYTHING... As the saying goes, "You can't please everyone"...
Rules changes can only be done on the first day of the congressional session (every 2 years). Reid has said not changing the filibuster rule in 2010 was "a mistake." Let's hope he doesn't make that mistake again.
POPPYCOCK...MALARKY...I'm loving this...
If Democrats would get angry they'd win a lot more races that they should win in the first place. Nobody likes milquetoasts who let asswholes run all over them.

People DIED...Obama LIED...and then created a COVER UP!
did you hear that from the bureau of propaganda (Fox news)
Don't you mean Bush lied...thousands died?
Wow, Let's go after those that would dare to sell God's World. When you own a large part of the bloody third world the babies just come with the scenery.
Gotta love a woman who quotes Chrissie Hynde!!
I sent an email to my rep and told him, I don't know what you are feeding Reid, but please give him more and convince a few other dems to have some.
Agree with Sen. Reid - still something fishy about TRs not submitted by Romney. Does it have to do with the IRS tax amnesty for tax cheaters? Overturning of the Citizens United decision is essential for our democracy. Having a bunch of old white men with loads of money to decide and influence our elections is reprehensible. Do their supporters stop to consider how much return on their money they expect from government? Not like charitable giving where u give expecting 0 return. They are buying a government for and by themselves. Where do Americans fit in?
"Does it have to do with the IRS tax amnesty for tax cheaters?"
Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!
Reid's been a one man wrecking crew on Democrats for years and certainly the worst Dem majority leader of our lifetimes.
He's a tough guy now, but was a pathetic petunia versus McConnell. If Obama fails to win re-election, nobody outside of Axelrod will be more at fault than Reid.
Dont make him angree, you wont like him when he's angree!!!
