Every time a Republican talks about their decision on abortion they preface it by saying, “I struggled with this for a while…” Explaining your heartfelt struggle to freely make your decision, in order to deny someone else there heartfelt struggle to make their own decision, is the definition of freedom denied. Any woman in this situation, is facing one of the most difficult decisions they will ever face and particularly because of this, no one else could possibly make this decision for someone else.

I'm puzzled that I've not heard ANYONE mention that prohibition didn't stop drinking, that when abortion was illegal, before Roe v. Wade, women had abortions. But were maimed or died from unskilled abortionists. Do these men who want to mandate Their religion think that laws will stop abortions?

The next thing you know these nutty republican's will be saying if your being raped just lay back and enjoy it,your bloody nose,lip's and black eye's will heal in no time.

For a Republican like Murdock thinking life is so precious, these Republicans sure like to cause a lot of senseless wars that have no real solutions, except a lot of people being murdered. Republicans keep the war machine going and than put in the worst leaders possible just so this awful abuse, misery, despair, and death continues. But Friedman is not the only one to discover the connection between the Romney family, Bain Capital, and ownership of voting machines.

The current campaign has moved this 55-year old life-long,13-year catholic educated, catholic woman from pro-life to pro-choice. What I want to ask is: should Repubs be elected into office and the personhood amendment happens and a woman becomes pregnant either from unprotected sex because of no planned parenthood or becomes pregnant from rape --well, when the Repubs also cut Obamacare, who will pay the medical care of the pregnant woman? If she has a job, who will cover her time off work? Who will help her feed this child when she works at McDonalds? Child care? On an on. How can someone who is so rabidly pro-life for a fertilized egg care so little for the life of the mother, the born child, born people, adults sent to war, capital punishment? By the way, the abortion issue should be decided by WOMEN since this moral issue uniquely affects us. Carrying the child. Birthing and raising the child. And another thing: say a woman gets pregnant from rape. whether she does or doesn't report it to authorities means she has to announce to the world that she was raped which she should NEVER have to do. If she is married it might affect her family. If she is single and doesn't say she was raped, she might well be called a slut, be ostracized at her church/family, etc.

also, regarding personhood amendment -- Tagg Romney has 3 children born to a surrogate, with options for abortion in the contract, signed by none other than flippin' Mitt.

The wingnuts need to do an immediate investigation as to why so many fertilized eggs commit suicide (spontaneous abortion). Perhaps it is due to the eggs' rights and thus their desire to be born to rich mothers only. More likely they hear the news and do not feel safe being born into a potential Romney presidency.

Absolutely AMAZING!!! The Republicans are SOOOO big on having a smaller, less interfering government but they won't hesitate to reverse Roe v Wade and control every woman in the nation. Setting aside the issue of women's choice for a sec, does this not give the stalker who's 'life is not worth living without her anyway,' the green light to go ahead and pin her down and impregnate, being that she will then have to carry his legacy even if he is removed from the picture?

Where is the talk on taxes these days? The tax change in 2001 we call the' Bush Tax' cuts lowered the hiest rate 5% while the middle class had theirs lowered 1%. We don't need to have a special tax on the rich now, just let the 'temporary' tax cut by Bush expire. The president should have let it happen several years ago. Sure some of us would see a very modest 1% increase but the wealty would be taxed 5% more which should be sufficient to move closer to the surplus experienced at the end of the Clinton years. No smoke and mirrors, just let them sunset as they were supposed to anyway as designed by the Republicans back in 2001!

Democrats don't speak very effectively to pro-life Christians who have been captured by the fearful religious thinking of the pro-life argument.

But anyone can speak with the authority of Christ - to a Christian - on the issue of abortion if they can effectively explain that God must be defined as "good" and only "good" (as Christ defined God) when contemplating the "will" of God and abortion. The fundamental flaw of the pro-life religious argument is that it necessitates that God be defined as "less than good" - if a woman is required to participate in God's creation of life against her will - at any stage of God's creation of life - then God can no longer be defined as wholly "good". This is contrary to the core teaching of Christ that God is good and only good.

If one envisions that God requires women bear God's children against their will - in order to accommodate God's will - then one participates in a form of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - an unpardonable sin according to Jesus. Unpardonable because one lives with the consequences of the God one constructs in one's mind for as long as one holds that construct - according to the core teachings of Jesus.

The person-hood argument for a fetus is also fatally flawed because it denies another fundamental teaching of Christ - that the soul of a human being - self-awareness - is what constitutes person-hood. The "awakened" soul - that thing of value to God and man - that thing worth "saving". No fetus possesses self-awareness. Self-awareness is what a Christian hopes survives after the death of a body. The birth of a fetus does not give birth to the awakening of self-awareness nor could the death of a fetus possibly harm an eternal soul - if a soul exists in a fetus.

Science now knows beyond a doubt that nature often aborts to spare a soul from awakening in a body that has genetic damage. The logical understanding of the will of God and abortion must therefore be that God desires humans mimic nature and seek the best for an awakening soul rather than seeking the survival of a fetal body - at the expense of the soul. And unwantedness is the most harsh form of damage one can inflict upon an awakening human soul.
