While Mitt says financial concerns are chief among women, he ignores the studies that estimate the cost of raising a child in a middle class family to age 17 is $235,000 which includes a $75,000 home.(Google cost of raising a child). His plans for women are all smoke and mirrors, lies and distraction and his weasel-speak about leaving legislation about abortion and contraception to the states is tacit agreement with repression by the GOTP legislatures.

We need to stop talking in terms of "Women's Issues" these are "People Issues" the cost of raising a child dose not fall solely and only on a mother but on the family that the right protests they alone support.
Similarly issues of abortion and contraception should be concerns for all of society particularly when the fundamental right of privacy and the ability to make your own decisions is what is at stake.

What it boils down to for me is one thing: Integrity. I believe Obama is a man of integrity and Romney just says what people want to hear that day. Give me honesty any day of the week.

Can not fathom — actually I choose not to fathom — how the latest poll in regard to gender gap actually surveyed women. On virtually every women's rights issue, the GOP is either dismissive, adamant, perversely backward, or simply clueless.

And this poll is so accurate as to discount all of the others that still show an 8-15 point lead among women for President Obama? Why show this and not the others? Sheesh, Tricia, have you bought into the fake Romney Mo stories? like the WAPO article about Senate races or Politico...now there's an embedded news source that touts and shouts for Republicans. I know we all want factual information, but the sources used so far today seem really tainted.
I'm to the point I don't even know why the media even bothers to report these polling results, they seem to defy all logic. Romney closing the gender gap with women? That makes sense; what woman would be interested in equal pay or the right to control of her reproductive rights? The only conclusion I can come to is without the race seeming close somehow, the media has two weeks and no story to fill them. The only number I find relevant at this point is Nate Silver's 538 blog.

The Romney-Ryan ticket makes an easy target, but a truly independent journalist needs to hold all officials and candidates accountable to the same standards and provide your audience with an opportunity to hear opposing views. Actually I can understand what that little old lady means , I thought and mentioned to a few people that I thought that the GOP didn't try very hard during 2008 , since they knew everything was going to hell, why not let the Democrats ( who were desperate to get back into power) take the fall on a crashing economy and a destabilized middle east. If I wanted to undermine my opponent for the next 2 to 3 election cycles , thats what I would do.

Front page of today's Des Moines Register has huge photos of serious angry looking Obama next to happy smiling Romney--check it out online and tell me it doesn't feed into stereotype of angry black man next to happy successful white business man. The juxtaposition of these photos makes me aghast in that it can influence all the white voters in Iowa by confirming their stereotypical beliefs.

I don't understand at ALL why Obama would have lost his lead with women. Nothing has changed, in fact with Mourdock entering the fray, it's worse. Has there not been enough talk about Romney doing away with Roe v Wade (which you talked about at some length last night, Rachel) to scare women away from Romney?
I'm 66 and Roe v Wade couldn't matter less to me personally but there was a time 40-some years ago when it would have made a HUGE difference and I'm not willing to take that choice away from other young women.
Why, with all the ads they're running, do they not address this ad infinitum if necessary? With two weeks to go I'm getting REALLY worried especially with all the talk of the swing states being the only ones that matter. The media needs to maybe put down their magic "look into the future" glass and start talking about NOW.
Rmoney just wants the title of POTUS, he could care less what happens to the rest of us, especially us women. It really scares me that his son owns interest in the voting machines in Ohio, they can be manipulated, and probably will be. Who will really be the ones calling this election? It's sad to think our votes may not mean a thing. I pray to God Obama gets re-elected, if not, this will be the nightmare being ran by lyin Paul Ryan. We will have no rights left by the time they get out of office.

How could Romney possibly have "erased" a 12-point gender gap to the point where it's even? Nothing this man has said - at the debates or anywhere else - shows that he can do anything for middle class families and women. The Washington Post poll is suspect, in my opinion. If anything, these polls are not showing voters in a very good light. They portray voters as fickle, undecided sheep. I don't understand how anyone could still be undecided unless they have a weak mind and are susceptible to false advertising.

the other day nate silver had gender crosstabs from the last 9 national polls and only one had woman tied and none had men tied [a previous wapo poll had rmoney+1]
