Four years ago, when former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama, Rush Limbaugh led the charge, accusing Powell of only supporting the Democrat because of race.
In 2012, the same argument is being pushed by the national chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
John Sununu told CNN last night, "When you take a look at Colin Powell, you have to wonder whether that's an endorsement based on issues or whether he's got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama?"
Asked what that other reason might be, the Republican added, "Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you are proud of being president of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him."
First, I rather doubt Mitt Romney's campaign chairman "applauds" the fact that a respected national figure endorsed President Obama on national television.
But putting that aside, Sununu's comments help capture a narrow, ignorant worldview. From the Romney aide's perspective, if an accomplished American with a celebrated record of public service endorses a successful president, the logical explanation is to assume it's motivated by race. For Sununu, the tired "blacks stick together" caricature is easier than thinking.
This from the same Republican who believes Obama is "lazy" and who pushed the odious and racially charged welfare lie.
A few hours after his CNN interview, Sununu -- or more likely, someone writing a press release for Sununu -- said in a statement he has "no doubt" that Powell's support for the president is based solely on "his support of the president's policies."
This is extremely hard to believe because, well, Sununu had just said the exact opposite. Given a chance to speak his mind, Romney's national campaign chairman, knowing the Powell question was coming and having 12 hours to think about it, immediately focused on race. A perfunctory press release in the middle of the night doesn't change that.
The question for Romney is why he allows such offensive figures to speak on his behalf to national audiences. The question for Sununu is whether every endorsement should be seen through a racial lens. Dick Cheney and Glenn Beck, for example, partnered for a pro-Romney event in Texas last night. Does Sununu assume they support Romney because they're white, or does he only apply this standard to African Americans?

It's come to the point when you don't know what other horrific and offensive tools the Romney campaign will unleash from their bag of tricks and lies. Here is a candidate chiding his opponent for running on nothing but "attacks," yet the Romney camp is guilty of the most ferocious, exaggerated, and utterly racist attacks on President Obama imaginable. It is obvious which campaign finds themselves in the desperate situation of pitting races against each other in a bid to claim the mantle of the "white" candidate. Mitt Romney has gone to a place that is very dangerous for America. - progressive
indeed. I wonder would Sunnunu "applaud" people who would vote only for a white guy? It seems he would. Sunnunu, racist and too dumb to hide it. and he obviously thinks the rest of us are too dumb to notice his "apology" is just one more lie.
I wonder if all the white CEOs who are backing Romney are "applauding" his achievements for someone who has the cross of being a White Moron, er, I mean Mormon, to bear?
I'm only surprised this ignorant, senile old fool didn't come out and say "Ni**er!" There's still 10 days left, I'm sure he will.
Oh come on, people. Of course the Rape-Public-CONs are arguing that Powell is "motivated by race". After all, they are.
And there are few things they seem to enjoy more than accusing others of doing what they know they are already doing themselves...
Get Enraged and Engaged:
Mooch the Vote 2012!
;-)
John Sununu is a racist jerk. I am tired of watching his multiple chins warbling at me like a turkey.
Anything Rush says is between him and God, literally.
It is not God Rush knows best. People can come to understand God through experiences, but Rush has never come close to even that plus all the other bums right with him.
God doesn't listen to Rush...would you?
Not when I can hear Hendrix live
Dragoon FTW!
We knew these sorts of things have been simmering under the surface since the beginning of the campaign and that we would see more and more of this sort of blatant racism ('Shuck and jive', 'When you have somebody of your own race'), and that's pretty much been the case.
True colors indeed.
You're racist or playing the race card if you point out their true colors. Palin believes "shuck and jive" is a common phrase with no racial connotations at all and you're a pansy ass for thinking it does. She's been silent until now and then she decides, after a month, to interject her comments. Her wording was deliberate and fully aware of the history of the phrase.
Brewer, I applaud your comments but disagree with you on one point. I don't think Sarah Palin knows the connotation of "shuck and Jive". She's not that smart. I think she is absolutely clueless which why she thinks it is okay to say what she said. In her case, it is better to let people think you are a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Are any of you aware of where "shuck and jive" came from??
Back in the 30's in central Indiana, when they used to sing, and listen to music while shucking corn was refered to as shucking and jiving. It had nothing to do with race.
John Sununu told CNN last night, "When you take a look at Colin Powell...
Yeah, but when you listen to Colin Powell, you might realize that your talking point is talking out your ass.
I swear, it's like these guys were walking by the bookstore, and thought "Pride and Predjudice" was a winning meme.
Sununu got the unedited tape from CNN. On it Powell is heard to say "Are we still rolling? No. Okay, all that was for your audience - the real reason for my endorsement is brothers gots to stick together."
Colin Powell does not use that type of language, "brothers have to stick together". This, as well as most anti-Obama garbage is heard on Rush or Fox, which has no credible information at all.
no not in public his to trained for that to get caught. I thought powell was something......but he is nothing....he is what I would call one of the biggest traitors we have......sworn to protect this country AGAINST DOMESTIC TERROR...he is helping to destroy this country.....
I was joking, grandpamike.
Apparently Mona3250 wasn't though. While you may be a jokester, Mona is clearly a racist idiot!
Keep talking Sununu , You are the face of the Republican party .
Let everyone bask in the warmth that is the current big tent .
Only angry old white guys and crazy people need apply.
They do not have to 'apply' they are being drawn in like moths to a flame. I have the tendency to stroll through some of the Right and even Far-Right blogs at times. Most of which think Sununu is dead on. They have this inherent thought that if a 90% of Black People voted for he President, it was because he is in fact black (or half black).
But the theory doesn't hold much water. Because if it was simply "Black People stick together". Jesse Jackson would have won the Dem Nomination when he ran. Hell Herman Cain would have won the Rep Nomination if it was simply about skin color.
Al Gore, Michael Dukakis, Walter Mondale all received 90% of the Black Vote, Ironically Clinton who has been called "The First Black President, only received 84% of the Black Vote, go figure.
Suggesting that Colin Powell only endorsed The President because of his skin color, is beyond stupid. But you seriously cannot expect more than that from Sununu to begin with. Except the rare occasions when he elevates himself o really dumb. Because it simply cannot be that Powell endorsed the President, because Mitt's FP is the exact same one he walked away from, when he was SoS. Naw that can't be it, can it?
You are right. Black folks turned out in droves for Shirley Chisolm, Jessie Jackson, and Al Sharpton. I wonder then did all the white people not vote for them for the same reason.
I am a racist if a racist is protecting my country from traitors.....what country has ever succeeded when it was run by a black man. mine is failing, failing hard.
Yet we got people out there that insist this person is doing a good job???? HOW???? 16T debt, 23M out of work, 4 people dead and no one knows WHY or HOW? oval office lying state house covering it up? come on people. what will it take for you to see this administration is killing this country. more debt? more on food stamps? more dead? which one will it take?
Let me know what you are planning on telling your children about this president? mom and dad how did he get us in so much debt? well honey, we had to borrow to dig us out of the hole? oh so you borrow to pay off your debt? yes, we borrow and borrow and borrow with plans on paying it off???? oh except take it from those who are successful and are earning a living, have a small business. when thats gone then they will have to after whose left???? who will that be? the rich will no longer have any more, the middle class will no longer have anything, cause the ones they were working for were the rich....so gees wheres it coming from? gosh oh well his black so it doesn't matter if he kills this country or not.....its the fact he is black and we don't have to prove anything to anyone ever again.....hahahahaha tell your kids thats ok
All I need to know about you I can find out by reading the first (run-on) sentence of your comment. You're on the wrong site, troll. Maddow fans know better than to listen to racist scum like you.
Like, Chanaka above, all I needed to know about you was in your first sentence. Glad you are here though...hang out and read something on this blog...You might learn something. I will also add that you have my congrats on posting one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read.
Mona you are not a racist, just a moron. Suggesting that the amount of melanin one has in their skin. Predetermines how good that person is at governance, makes you a moron. Because if that's the case. Explain to me how a "white guy" named Bush. Damn near bankrupted this country, doubled the debt, had more US Soldiers die under a false pretense and had the least transparent presidency in history. Did a better job at running this country?
And speaking of traitors. Which President stood in front of a podium and told the American People. I'm stripping you of some of your freedoms, by saying "In order to protect your freedom, I have to take some of those freedoms away." And the entire Rep Party gave a standing ovation. Hoover is the only thing stopping Bush 43 from being the worst President in the history of this country. And they both are white. So explain your argument again?
Is there still a lot of people out of work, yes. Is there more people on Food Stamps, yes. Did it solely happen because we have a Black President, no. And even someone with half a brain knows that. The fact that our President is Black, is more of an issue for the Right. Than it is for anybody else.
I'm not saying that everyone in the Republican party are inherently racist. But the fact is some are, it's true for both parties, just more so in the GOP. Conservatives have this delusional belief, that the Rep Party reduces the debt, cut spending, shrinks the size of government and are just better at governing. When in recent modern history, none of that is in fact true. Reagan, Bush41 and Bush43 all doubled the debt, the size of government, and spent more money than the last 3 Democratic Presidents.
And Mona here's a quick history lesson for you. The first man to serve a full term as President of the Continental Congress, who in effect ran what would later be The United States of America, was John Hanson, a Black man. And even serving during a time when slavery and racism was so overt and the norm. He received little to no backlash because of the color of his skin. And what would become America, thrived and didn't falter in it's fledgling state of being a new independent nation. So to answer your question, what country has ever succeeded when it was run by a black man, this one did.
And it's a face as ugly as his ideas. If I was a repug (gods forbid) this guy would make me change sides. He is disgusting in every way and a bully when interviewed. Soledad was the only one to stand up to this puke. I wish msnbc would follow her lead
Thank you, Calvin, for your beautiful response to an ugly, disgusting and ignorant post.
I (in my foolishness) thought that we had a better education system that had long overcome such reprehensible thinking. I stand corrected and appalled.
For months I have asked "Why would anyone vote for these people?" I now know and it makes me sick to my stomach. Hopefully, our society will someday reach a point of being sufficiently enlightened that this kind of discrimination will be a thing of the past. Hopefully, some day we will have matured to the point that we can realize the excellence in a man without checking the color of his skin.
After reading that diatribe I truly fear for our President. Not for his re-election because I truly believe that there are still more rational and thoughtful people in this country to be able to make the kind of reasoned decision that Colin Powell did, but because the kind of hatred engendered in that post threatens violence.
I hope that the post of Mona3250 will be collapsed for its merits very soon. It is offensive to the greatest degree imaginable.
"I am a racist if a racist is protecting my country from traitors.....what country has ever succeeded when it was run by a black man. mine is failing, failing hard." This is a racist remark by all standards of intelligent thinking, for you to think otherwise, is well, as said above, moronic. Calvin is correct that not all Republicans are racist, neither are they all Christian hypocrits, however, the bad outweigh the good this year.
Mona, women who speak such as you are a disgrace to our gender. You have no clue regarding equal rights for all, black/white/asian/latino/men/women/or the LBGT community. If you did you would not vote for the republican party in this election.
I just wonder what state you live in, because if you lived in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts like I do, then you would have first hand experience of the damage that Mr. Romney did to the hard-working Americans of our state. We gave him a chance, and he abused us and destroyed many financially, left behind an enormous budget gap, and did nothing more than use the governorship as a means to attempt to run for the White House. Even his fellow Republicans in this state make remarks about his failues. Nothing more, nothing less. The ONLY thing that he did to BENEFIT anyone, was the Healthcare...now that same plan is not good enough for the US as a whole, but he certainly thought it to be an historical event when he put it in place for us...go figure. To hear him tell it on the campaign trail, he did all kinds of great stuff....it is simply NOT true, yet you have fallen for his lies, as have so many.
Mr. Romney was born into money, he has lived his entire life among the 1% of the ultra rich, he belongs to a church who believes that a 24 yr old man found some tablets in the ground that an angel put there for him to find and told him to marry a lot of women. NONE of the men in his family served in the Armed Forces, yet I served in the Women's Army Corps during the Vietnam War and as far back as the Revolutionary War my family has served this nation in the Armed Forces, can your family say the same, Mona? Why can't his family say that? Because they don't have to, even though they could have served as military chaplains. They made sure they survived so they could spend some of their inherited money, used to destroy the lives of so many others, that made them more money to destroy more lives. They have deliberately sent jobs overseas, holding them ransom until a Republican gets into the White House who will serve the interests of the 1%.
THIS is the party who is NOT concerned about working class, only that teeny weeny number of ultra rich, mega wealthy gazillionaires. So, yes Mona, you are a racist, but you are also guilty of other things as well by casting your vote for the Republican party - you are clearly claiming that you don't give a flip about some of the human-beings who live around you....I am so glad that I don't have to live with that feeling of superiority in my soul. I love my friends of color, I love the variety of religious/non-religious among us, I love their cultural heritages, I love how they have taught me so much and share so much of themselves with me, I love how they project nothing but compassion and peace, I love their black skin, brown skin, yellow skin, green skin, white skin, red and blue skin, I just love the rainbow of skin tones; I just love them for who they are and I am as concerned for their well-being as much as I am for myself....But guess what, Mona? Most of my family is dead now, but the older ones were deep southern baptist, Mississippi Delta racists just like you, they taught me how NOT to be....and for that I am grateful.....I am a Democrat and proud of it....Obama 2012
i'm not sure if repubs hate the fact that President Obama is a democrat, or an african american. they have USED the fact that he is BOTH against him in every possible way.
the president isn't the only one elected to make change or to work for the american people, and i would ask mona if she likes what the repubs have done BEFORE President Obama took office, but especially AFTER he took office, PER THEIR PROMISE TO EACH OTHER TO SAY "NO" TO ALL ECONOMIC POLICIES THE PRESIDENT PUTS FORTH. things that bi-partisanly have been done in the past to move our economy forward, repubs NOW say "no" to. the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE, a REPUB, a CONSERVATIVE idea was constitutional before President Obama made it a part of health care reform. now the repubs act as if they have never heard of it. repubs used the individual mandate to counter Teddy Kennedy's AND Hillary Clinton's health care reforms. mitt romney used it in Mass., and SENT HIS GUYS to washington to talk to Obama's guys, and they are virtually the SAME HEALTH CARE PLAN.
mona, i hope you also are asking why 4500 troops are dead due to the iraqi war. i hope you also are asking "why" w. bush lied to take us after saddam hussein and dropped the ball on bin laden.
perhaps you are not aware, mona, that w. bush KEPT OFF THE BOOKS the 2 wars, iraq and afghanistan, and medicare part D. BUSH PUT EVERYTHING ON THE CREDIT CARD. the very same month that he signed the 2nd part of the bush tax cuts into law, HE TOOK THE UNITED STATES INTO IRAQ. who goes to war, LET ALONE 2 wars, one of them illegal, without raising taxes? w. bush.
when President Obama took office, he included the cost of the wars and medicare part D in the debt, now he is getting ALL THE BLAME FOR IT. he said, "i will no longer lie to the american people about the cost of these wars". ask mitch daniels why the wars were KEPT OFF THE BOOKS. don't you agree that the amerrican people would have been better served had we known the TRUE COST OF OUR DEBT AND DEFICIT?
no-one knew the depth of our financial crisis when Obama took office. one thing is for sure, the american people KNOW WHO TO BLAME, w. bush and the repub party.
the american people also blame the repub party for the debt ceiling debacle and for the obstruction in congress.
Well put.
Of course not. American Presidents are "supposed" to be White -- it's the default condition. Voting for a man for President because he's White would be like voting for water because it's wet, right?
I'm not shocked at the racism coming out of the Republican party.
I'm not shocked, I'm saddened. I'm saddened by the fact that "color" is all these racists see, not his skills, his intelligence, the way that he's handled everything that has been thrown at him and then some with grace, dignity and even humor! I'm saddened by how dumbed down and just ignorant of facts that WE as a nation have become! I'm saddened that learning, thinking independently has become an anathema that should be avoided and shunned for a herd like, Taliban mentality that projects onto "other" all of their venom because of their own fears! I'm saddened that in this the first decade of the 21st century the plutocrats are again falling back on racism and "divide and conquer" strategies that will allow them to continue pillage US all!
I am 77 yrs old and never been afraid of any thing in my life, but now I am afraid for my Country. If Mitt gets to be president with the neocons in charge of foreign affaires that he knows nothing about we are in a world of trouble. We are a country of great differences, color should not be a factor. How does an angry man with a blank stare get this far? I have been watching everything and I believe he is a sick person. We will go back to Iraq to fill the great structures that W built so we can control the world is the way the neocons believe. This is what I believe the General sees so he will go with our President not because of race. Mitt says anything to win..America be aware I would even be afraid.
Colin Powell has a Scottish background, in addition to his Jamaican heritage. Does this mean that he would vote for Mitt Romney if Mitt takes up the bagpipes? Is the general that shallow, as Sununu implies?
So, I guess it can be said that Sununu is voting for Romney because "... when you have somebody of your own race that you are proud of being president of the United States..." you stand with that person.
Sununu is Palestinian-Cuban.
No, he would be voting for Romney, not because they are both white, it is because both are similarly stupid.
The Republican Party now realizes that, if it can't stoke the race war fire and keep it burning, the Republican Party will no more.
Given the demographic trends, I suspect that if they don't stop stoking that fire, the Rape-Public-CON party will be "no more", sooner rather than later. They just don't seem to be concerned with long-term interests, either for themselves, or the country.
Criminy, these people must really believe that the "end of the world" is nigh...
Get Enraged and Engaged:
Mooch the Vote 2012!
;-)
The thing about dinosaurs is that eventually, they all die off. For them, the end of the world really is happening.
The thing that is lost here is,He didn't challenge Colin Powell's reasons for his endorsement.
And from Sununu "Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race",should this be taken as Gov. Sununu sole reason for sticking with Romney?
The truth is, we knew this was coming, either from Limbaugh,Hannity or any other right wing hack.it's unfortunate that a top campaign person for Romney would be the one to bring this up.
What I find shocking isn't that these … people…. feel this way, but that they not only don't seem to think it's going to cost them, they don't even seem to notice that they are doing it.
Yet another example of the idea that white people don't have a race, men don't have a gender, and straights don't have a sexual orientation. Minorities are minorities. Everyone else is normal.
"Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you are proud of being president of the United States,"
I suppose that is why the A$$hole Race is supporting Romney.
Further evidence Neanderthals aren't extinct!
Nobody saw this coming. I mean imagine that, the republicans playing the race card. Next they'll try to keep African-Americans from voting! Oh, they are.
I hope there is a huge turn out in African- AMERICAN voters as a backlash!
From all appearances, minorities are turning out in large numbers because of all this. Yes, backlash, what the repugnant republicans didn't expect!
No I am sure they understood the risk. It was a gamble and their bet was that they could make white people hate Obama more because he is an African-American.
Combine that with a massive voter suppression effort targeted at minorities and the poor and they thought that had a path to victory.
I am not sure which is more sickening, the idea that they thought it up and tried it or the fact that so many people were complicit and willing to go along with it.
Old white male Republican spokespersons show their racism is just as strong as Rush Limbaugh's. This is a surprise to no one. After all, someone is listening to Limbaugh's hate filled broadcasts, and now we know Limbaugh's listeners include John Sununu. These people are so transparent that they cannot help but openly voice their lifelong intellectually lazy racist views. As Steve Benan aptly states above, "For Sununu, the tired "blacks stick together" caricature is easier than thinking."
There was Dum and Dumber. Now there's DUMBEST! Sununu is an embarrassment, not only to Republicans, but to everyone. He should just take his racist, nasty and lying self off somewhere and shut up!
Lawrence O'Donnell was spot-on: The Romney campaign is after every white supremist vote that can be had.
Of course Powell is motivated by race...the campaign race.
Does this work both ways? Can I say George HW Bush is a racist because he selected the white guy?
Any ordinary citizen who watches the full clip of Gen. Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy in 2008 (about 8 minutes long and readily available on youtube) would draw two reasonable conclusions. One, Gen. Powell is a smart, thoughtful man whose experience bridges both the military establishment and civilian government at the highest levels. His opinion should count for something. Two, Mr. Sununu is a proponent of a harsh, radical, right wing reverse social engineering agenda that is likely to be turned out once again in the 2012 election.
What does the Tea Party really want, anyway?

Know something it would be interesting to see how the news justifies these CEO’s meeting and manipulating things where we have had the worst economic crash since the Great Depression. These CEO’s sat there and now call for a deficit reduction and even manipulated outrageous wages for themselves. Let’s see how the news media says oh no these CEO’s didn’t pay off politicians to corrupt our laws and regulations that caused an economic collapse in so many countries. Let’s see how the news media justifies the CEO’s lining their pockets with tax payer money and plus reduce their taxes where they pay absolute crap in taxes as everybody else has to pay for their incompetence. Let’s see how the news media will sit there and lie about how badly the CEO’s have manipulated everybody just because these CEO’s are the worst power cravers, corrupt, arrogant, greedy, hypocrites, and deceivers around.
Talk about visuals... how come when the nightly news shows clips of political rallies, the Romney rallies are shockingly, embarrassingly, 99% white? All the time. They just are.
And how come the news media doesn't comment on the obvious?
I so very much wish the GOP weren't something to be ashamed of in this country, because we could be so better served by having two adults in the room, instead of just one.
Rochester12:
I hope it will make you feel better to hear that I have often heard the commentators on MSNBC mention the fact that there are so few African-Americans in the crowds. I think they are turned away at the doors (my opinion only). While the subject isn't as widely commented on as you would like, there are more than enough of us that are well aware of the situation.
Yes, the GOP has become a shame for our country. Too sad.
Are you kidding, grama? If an African-American did happen to show up at a Romney rally, they'd hustle him or her to a prime spot right behind Romney and point every camera in that direction.
It would give them the appearance of inclusion without actually having to include anyone.
They had 12 hours to think about this which means they planned it. They put Sununu out there to deliberately stir the race pot for this wing of their base. If The Obama campaign says nothing it allows this crap to stand. If they come out against it, it only reinforces the statement for these people.
In an election that is about micro-targeting and getting out the base they don't care if those people are card caring members of the Ku Klux Klan so long as they vote
Speaking of the Klan, I heard a report on the radio this morning that it is growing-several thousand branches.
Can't say I am surprised. In times of economic crisis people start looking for answers and there is always some wackaloon with an axe to grind and someone to blame. Any questions should be submitted to the Weimar Republic press office.
You all said it and said it right.
Sununu is for Romney because he is white. He sure doesn't have any other reason.
I am so ashamed of my countrymen that can't get beyond the civil war behavior. I thought when President Obama was elected we were really becoming a country to be respected for it's decency. Fat chance with these mouths spewing their sick garbage.
gramapoetmn, I am also ashamed of my countrymen for basing voting allegiance on race rather than reason. It makes no sense. Just as you wrote, I was proud of this country when we elected Obama. I thought we had finally "turned the corner" on racial stupidity. Let's stand together and elect Obama again!
Honey, I voted back on practically the first day you could do so in Minnesota. I voted a straight Democratic ticket, because just voting for the best President we have had in a century isn't enough. We need to change the whole congressional makeup in order for him to get done what will benefit the country.
I know the Democratic Party well enough to know they won't be a rubber stamp on everything, but it will sure beat the Republicans that have thrown out every person with values that doesn't meet their meat grinder.
When you stop to think of the house of representatives hold on to this; They put Michelle Bachman on the Intelligence Committee - probably the least intelligent woman ever elected to office. They put Akins on the Science Committee - complete with his "a woman's body would shut down in a legitimate rape". They put Darrell Issa on Oversight and Government Reform Committee - a convicted car thief and show horse. It is almost as if they asked "What do you know the least about?" and put them where they were least qualified.
We need to back our President all the way down the ticket - and recognize the intent of the Republican Party is to simply defeat the President in any and every thing he does or wants to do.
things always get worse before they get better. the election of President Obama was a big step forward, but it brought out the worst in many americans. one step forward, 2, 3, 4, 5 steps back it appears to me.
this is part of the process, unfortunately. it doesn't surprise me, but the level of hatred and demonization toward our president, and the fact that repubs are UNEMBARASSABLE in this regard, SHOCKS me.
Classic case of 'projection'.
This is the same political genius that convinced Bush 1 to ditch his "read my lips.." pledge.
People in future generations will look back at us. They will see what decisions we made, who we promoted, and who we listened to. I cringe whenever I think about that.
Sununu is a pig. I can't tell you how bad my husband and I don't like him.
I certainly agree that Sununu is a bad guy. I wonder, though, how much impact on the election Powell's endorsement will have. Given Sununu's stupid remark it may reinforce the determination of African-Americans to vote. Beyond that, a lot of people do not think well of Powell because of his role in My Lai and his flacking for Bush and Cheney on the Iraq war.
Did he just call Condoleezza a race traitor?
Good catch!
What about Michael Steele
good point
I love MSNBC, but really hate that they insist on airing the garbage that comes out of the mouths of Limbaugh, Beck and Sununu. If I wanted to know their sick opinions I would watch them where ever they infest the space. I could go the rest of my life never seeing their faces or hearing their voices. To me even airing portions of their filth only encourages them to get more outrageous.
If you feel it is important (and I can't imagine how), just tell me what they said. Don't inflict me with their saying it. That constitutes cruel and inhuman behavior.
I understand where you're coming from. But those counter opinions are what help to legitamize their good reporting moves. If you watch FOX, they espouse all kind of rhetoric without even backing it up, which is partly how you can tell when it's rhetoric.
