Mitt Romney campaigned in Defiance, Ohio, last night, and rolled out a new argument. "I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China," he said. "I will fight for every good job in America, I'm going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it's fair, America will win."
There are a few problems with this line of attack, starting with the simple fact that Romney wasn't telling the truth. As Chrysler itself explained, the company intends to build Jeeps in China to be sold in China, but isn't moving American jobs abroad.
On Oct. 22, 2012, at 11:10 a.m. ET, the Bloomberg News report "Fiat Says Jeep® Output May Return to China as Demand Rises" stated "Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley (President and CEO of the Jeep brand) referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China."
Despite clear and accurate reporting, the take has given birth to a number of stories making readers believe that Chrysler plans to shift all Jeep production to China from North America, and therefore idle assembly lines and U.S. workforce. It is a leap that would be difficult even for professional circus acrobats.
Let's set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It's simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world's largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments. [emphasis in the original]
All of this, incidentally, is rather ironic given the successful efforts of the Obama administration when it comes to China and Jeeps, specifically.
Greg Sargent explained well why this matters: "Romney may very well be the next president. That's a position of some responsibility. Yet he and his campaign rushed to tell voters a story designed to stoke their fears for their livelihoods without bothering to vet it for basic accuracy. This is not a small thing. It reveals the depth of Romney's blithe lack of concern for the truth -- and the subservience of it to his own political ambitions."
Indeed, we can take this a step further.
Romney specifically urged business leaders to give their employees voting instructions -- many took Romney's suggestion seriously -- and as a consequence, workers in a growing number of businesses are being told their jobs may be dependent on the outcome of the election.
Romney's comments in Defiance are part of the same kind of fear-based argument: vote the right way or you'll be unemployed. Your livelihood is at stake, so support the candidate who opposed President Obama's successful rescue of the auto industry and got rich laying off American workers.
For additional context, it's worth noting that the Detroit News reports today that Chrysler is adding an additional 1,100 new jobs. Why? To build more Jeeps right here in the United States.

Just another day in the Republican Hood.
I have information that may alter the presidential election results. If Donald trump can get Mitt Romney to release his tax returns, I'll them both a dollar!
I think the president should agree to show his papers if Romney shows his tax returns. I mean how bad can his college transcripts be, he got into Harvard for cripes sake.
If Willard submits 10 years of tax returns then maybe the president can submit his college transcripts.
I'll settle the mystery:
Romney doesn't want to show tax returns because his income is from investments which means he would have had no gains in 2008 and 2009 thus he probably paid zero federal taxes. He wouldn't care the years before because he was governer for a lot of those years but he can't release 10 years minus 2008-9.
Obama doesn't want to show his school records because they'll indicate he lied about his citizenship and may well have enrolled as a foreign exchange student. I'm NOT saying he isn't a citizen, I'm saying he's lied about his citizenship/ethnicity/heritage when it suits him thus the confusion with his book publisher and all the seeds to the various conspiracy theories.
I'd say that Greg Sargent is putting the kindest possible interpretation on events. He also wrote:
My point is, there's no particular indication that they neglected to check, and didn't just run with it anyway because they thought from what they could see on those "right-leaning blogs" that it was resonating with the blogs' audience. And that's what's really important, after all, for Pete's sake.
Given what we've already seen repeatedly in Willard's campaign, e.g. the deliberate, even arrogant use of out-of-context "quoting" to make the President appear to have said the precise opposite of what he actually did (sauce goose gander? wtf?), the insistence on endlessly repeating overwhelmingly debunked claims, etc., I see no particular reason to give him the benefit of any doubt here.
The facts (those things whose "checkers" we all know won't constrain his campaign) were already easily and publicly available - indeed, they could have looked at the Bloomberg article as easily as any given blog (which specifically referenced it).
As far as I'm concerned, it's just another example of an instance where Willard knew the truth, and deliberately chose to say something else instead.
He's a lying sack of crap!
Get Enraged and Engaged:
Mooch the Vote 2012!
;-)
a lot of people wonder how with all the lies 47-48% of voters can vote for mittens but a couple of those who posted previous to me hit the nail on the head....they are not voting for mittens, they are voting against O. In '08, exit polls showed there were 6-7% of voters that admitted that they would never vote for a black man. take that 6-7% away from mittens and it's no contest, it would be a landslide for O.
I have spoken to a lot of people and I could easily refute each and every one of the talking points they used and even after all that, they would not vote for O and at that point I understood why. when you have no valid reason to not vote for O, it's a vote against O because he is black...........sad.
This is what you call we're-about-to-lose-so-let's-start-laying-the-groundwork-for-the-excuses. Maddow has done a good job laying the foundation to claim Obama lost because of voter suppression efforts and of course you point out the old mainstay, racism. Problem is, after 4 years of watching him in operation fewer people support Obama today than in 2008. So unless you believe people that voted for Obama in 2008 suddenly became racists between then and now your theory doesn't work.
As an ex resident of Ohio, it blows my mind to think anyone in that great state would vote for Obama...he has done you all dirt and my union friends tell me that secretly they are voting for Romney but saying they are voting for Obama...good for them to recognize the lies, deceit and lack of leadership of this President. And NBC/MSNBC are avoiding the whole Libya coverup, but it is really beginning to hit the fan.
It has now come out that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered additional security for the U.S. mission in Benghazi ahead of the terrorist attack but the orders were never carried out, according to “legal counsel” to Clinton.. Those same sources also say former President Bill Clinton has been “urging” his wife to release official State Department documents that prove she called for additional security at the compound in Libya, which would almost certainly result in President Obama losing the election.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have been having “big fights” for “two or three weeks” about the issue.. While Bill Clinton wishes his wife would “exonerate” herself by releasing the documents that show she wasn’t at fault for the tragic security failure in Libya, the secretary of state refuses to do so because she doesn’t want to be viewed as a traitor to the Democratic party.
Obama had enough resources to sendto Benghazi. Obama could have sent special ops units stationed one hour away in Italy to save our people. He refused. The two seals that died weren’t killed until SEVEN hours after the attack started. Obama is proudly saying that he’sstaying awake for 24 hours to campaign this week. Too bad he didn’t do that during the attack, but rather chose to go to bed. For you dead in mind Ohians, wakeup and vote for Romney.
Sources, please. That's a lot of information that you just expect us to buy?
LOL another fact less newbie Mitt wit.
Sources, good luck with that. Foreign Policy magazine, is a good place to start.
As a resident and voting citizen of the USA, I find it deplorable that anyone in Ohio would fall for the Evanjihadist, NeoCon, spew, coming from Rmoney/Rayn?
Deplorable morals, and typical to the brain studies for conservatives, acting from the fear parts of the human brain.
In spite of your clear lack of proper sources and intelligence, here's another perspective for you.
As a middle class woman, it blows my mind to think anyone who has worked a 9-5 job would vote for Romney...he has done nothing but lie, show he has no interest in supporting women's rights, has no sound economic plan, and has, at every turn, said anything and everything, however untrue, to get your vote. My friends don't need to be ashamed that they're voting for Obama and wonder why others are so ashamed to say that they vote for Romney--they must know that only idiots do that... good for those who recognize the lies, deceit and lack of leadership of Romney. And Fox News refuse to accept that NONPARTISAN Fact Checkers have disproved Romney's words at every turn and proven Obama to be right, and honest. It's getting harder to support their candidate, Mitt, but it is really beginning to hit the fan so Mitt and Fox have resorted to fear mongering.
It has happened that Romney politicized and continues to politicize the tragedy at Benghazi and Obama called him out on that in Debate #2 on national television, for which Romney had no response, and furthermore, your own Condoleeza Rice doesn't think much about your theories concerning the administration's handling of Benghazi--on your favorite news channel, too: Fox http://video.foxnews.com/v/1922827219001/condi-rice-on-benghazi-2012-race/. Here we see another tactic by the Right to try to discredit Obama with lies, lies that even their own party representatives wont stand for.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have probably been having fights since the Monica Lewinsky scandal, but I just got that from some show business gossip show...which are about as reliable as your nonsense ranting. How you know about what Bill Clinton thinks is beyond me you delusional piece of stuff (to quote Joe Biden). I also don't think you're capable of knowing what Hilary Clinton is thinking at this point, as I doubt you have access to her.
To quote Republican, Condoleezza Rice, who was appointed by President Bush to serve in his administration: "There are protocols in place. I have no reason to believe that they weren’t followed. It is not very easy in circumstances like this to know precisely what’s going on as it’s unfolding....when things are unfolding very, very quickly, it’s not always easy to know what is really going on on the ground... And to my mind, the really important questions here are about how information was collected. Did the various agencies really coordinate and share intelligence in the way that we had hoped, with the reforms that were made after 9/11... So there’s a big picture to be examined here, but we don’t have all of the pieces, and I think it’s easy to try and jump to conclusions about what might have happened here. It’s probably better to let the relevant bodies do their work.” (Source: http://www.ibtimes.com/condoleezza-rice-benghazi-its-hard-know-sure-fog-war-854062)
For you dead in mind, Faux News favoring, brainwashed Romney drones, wake up and ask yourself if you really want to vote for a lying sack of "stuff" like Romney. Obama's done more for me as a middle class, working woman who has a family's future to think about.
runningfast-you're running the wrong way if you think Romney is a credible candidate for the presidency of our great nation. He's the worst of all presidencial runnerup from the beginning of the formation of the United States. He is the most corrupt, deceitful, evil, etc., of human kind. In the first place we should not be getting in volved with the investigation of what has been transpiring from the U.S. Libyan Embassy bombing and lost American lives. The president has promised to bring to bring to justice the ones responsible for the lost of our Americans lifves.
Romney is the one who is going to destroy America because of people like you who will find any excuse to not vote for our president. You refuse to acnowledge Ronmey's lies and he will do and say whatever it takes to take the presidents speeches.
Romney's false accusations against China is a "Liar, liar, pants on fire" statement. He is so involved in Bain Capital, his brain child investment company that it's pitiful how he has been able to fool the American people who have not been touched by the heartless breakup of a company that many workers have worked at for more than 35 years to suddenly find themselves out of work in a staggering economy of joblessness. Romney has millions of dollars in stock and investments with Bain Capital and for every factory and businesses that Bain outsources to China is money into Romney's pocket and the Mormon Church that too has stock in Bain Capital, courtesy of Romney. Romney's Bain Capital To Send Nearly 200 High-Tech Jobs to China the Day Before the Election
On the day before an election that's supposed to hinge on jobs, taxes and the middle class, Bain Capital, the company Mitt Romney founded, will close the doors of a factory in Freeport, Illinois, and ship 170 good, high-tech jobs to China.
The employees of Sensata Technologies were forced to train their Chinese replacements, and the American flag that long flew over the factory was reportedly removed while the Chinese engineers were visiting the site. A group of workers have set up camp across from the factory — calling it "Bainport" — and some supporters have tried to block the trucks hauling equipment out of the plant. According to Dave Johnson, there have been several arrests.
Sensata workers have asked to meet with Mitt Romney and hoped to enlist his help keeping their jobs in the United States, but he has refused, instead remaining on the campaign trail where he speaks often about "getting tough" with China.

Romney's 2011 tax returns show that he got a huge tax break by moving Sensata stock to a charity organization he controls -- and that he continues to profit from Bain's offshore holdings and tax avoidance strategies.
Sensata workers are certainly not alone watching their jobs sail off to China, or to have wealthy American businessmen profit by investing in those companies:

Freeport Sensata Layoffs Spark National Debate On Outsourcing
Sensata told the Freeport plant employees in early 2011 that their jobs would be relocated to China by December of this year, and that workers must train their replacements. This is despite the fact that Sensata has turned a consistent profit, even while paying these employees an average of $17 an hour for eight-hour shifts.
Sensata employees in China can expect to be paid $1 an hour to work twelve-hour shifts, according to a report by the Institute for Global Labor and Human Rights.

Bain Capital – The New York Times
Business Ties to China, Despite Campaign Complaints
As a candidate, Mr. Romney has used China as a punching bag. He accuses Beijing of unfairly subsidizing Chinese exports, artificially holding down the value of its currency to keep exports cheap, stealing American technology and hacking into corporate and government computers.
But the tale of Asimco Technologies, an auto parts manufacturer whose plants dot eastern China, would seem to underscore Mr. Romney's campaign-trail complaint that China's manufacturing juggernaut is costing America jobs.
Nine years ago, Asimco bought two camshaft factories that employed about 500 people in Michigan. By 2007 both were shut down. Now the company manufactures the same components in China on government-donated land in a coastal region that China has designated an export base, where companies are eligible for the sort of subsidies Mr. Romney says create an unfair trade imbalance.
But there is a twist to the Asimco story that would not fit neatly into a Romney stump speech: Since 2010, it has been owned by Bain Capital. Mr. Romney has as much as $2.25 million invested in three Bain funds with large stakes in Asimco and at least seven other Chinese businesses, according to his 2012 candidate financial disclosure and other documents.
That and other China-related holdings by Bain funds in which Mr. Romney has invested are a reminder of how he inhabits two worlds that at times have come into conflict during his campaign for the White House.
Mr. Romney's campaign insists he has no control over his investments since they are held in a blind trust. That said, a confidential prospectus for one of the Bain funds, obtained by The New York Times, promotes China as a good investment for some of the same reasons that Mr. Romney has said concern him: "Strong fundamentals" like manufacturing wages 85 percent lower than what Americans earn, vast foreign exchange reserves and the likelihood that China will surpass the United States as the world's largest economy.

On the campaign trail, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney touts his work with Bain Capital as evidence he knows how to fix the struggling American economy. He also profits heavily from the company: According to reports in the New York Times and from the Associated Press, Romney received between $1.5 million and $6.2 million in income from his Bain holdings in 2011 alone, and is expected to continue earning from those investments into the future. (All his holdings are in a blind trust outside his direct control.)

Romney's 'Blind Trust' Was Not Very Blind
ROMNEY: First of all, my investments are not made by me. My investments for the last 10 years have been in a blind trust, managed by a trustee. Secondly, the investments they've made, we've learned about this as we made our financial disclosure, have been made in mutual funds and bonds…………
A ThinkProgress Economy analysis reveals that Romney's 2011 "blind trust" disclosure identified 43 investments in 13 entities or financial services firms offering investments (CDs, mutual funds, bonds etc.). Of those, 33 were in entities or firms offering investments where he also had investments in his 2007 disclosure. And that 2007 form noted Romney had at least nine current or recently-sold investments with Goldman Sachs, worth millions of dollars.
While the particular funds varied (different mutual funds with Goldman, different bonds or CDs with the Federal Home Loan Banks, etc.), it strains credulity to for Romney suggest that he didn't know his money was likely in Goldman Sachs between 2007 and 2011.

QUESTION OF THE CENTURY"
What if: President Obama would not have bailed out the Auto Industry and let it go into bankruptcy?
Post-bankruptcy financing is not the same as financing during the bankruptcy process, when these companies were still vulnerable and needed outside money to keep functioning. And in late 2008, lending had frozen. As :The Huffington Post's Dave Jamieson noted:
Those companies did, in fact, eventually go through managed bankruptcy, as Romney noted. But back in 2008, Romney had argued against federal aid for the automakers. Given how difficult it was to borrow money during the financial crisis, it's doubtful that the GM and Chrysler would have made it through the managed bankruptcy process without the intervention of the federal government.
What do Bain Capital and their investor do to companies in trouble? They swoop in and buy the troubled companies then what is the next step?
Here's how Romney would go about "liberating" a company: A private equity firm like Bain typically seeks out floundering businesses with good cash flows. It then puts down a relatively small amount of its own money and runs to a big bank like Goldman Sachs or Citigroup for the rest of the financing. (Most leveraged buyouts are financed with 60 to 90 percent borrowed cash.) The takeover firm then uses that borrowed money to buy a controlling stake in the target company, either with or without its consent. When an LBO is done without the consent of the target, it's called a hostile takeover; such thrilling acts of corporate piracy were made legend in the Eighties, most notably the 1988 attack by notorious corporate raiders Kohlberg Kravis Roberts against RJR Nabisco, a deal memorialized in the book Barbarians at the Gate.
But what most voters don't know is the way Mitt Romney actually made his fortune: by borrowing vast sums of money that other people were forced to pay back. This is the plain, stark reality that has somehow eluded America's top political journalists for two consecutive presidential campaigns:
Mitt Romney is one of the greatest and most irresponsible debt creators of all time. In the past few decades, in fact, Romney has piled more debt onto more unsuspecting companies, written more gigantic checks that other people have to cover, than perhaps all but a handful of people on planet Earth.
http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/277-75/13180-focus-romney-and-bain-the-true-story
But....with the auto industry, Bain Capital and it's investors (Romney) would outsource the auto industry to China where they are already making auto parts and other high technology auto products like from Sensata's auto sensors.
Romney would have make billions in outsourcing the Auto Industry to China to complete transactions in making automobiles in China.
Romney is not a job creator in America but is in outsourcing our jobs to China by Bain's Capital buying factories and corporations with our technology and giving it to China as a packaged deal in exchange for cheap labour for higher profits.
Romney as a former bishop and ward president is ready to lead America, with the help of the Mormon LDS church, as a business and enforce his teachings through law passage with the help of the 15 Mormons who are in congress and Republicans. Women are second class citizens in the Mormon religion and they have no rights and never will if Romney is elected. Abortion definitely is out even if the life of the woman is in danger.

Did Republicans Deliberately Crash the US Economy?
By Michael Cohen, Guardian UK
The Republican Party's Congressional leadership: Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and House Speaker John Boehner. Be it ideology or stratagem, the GOP has blocked pro-growth policy and backed job-killing austerity - all while blaming Obama.
For Democrats, perhaps the most obvious piece of evidence of GOP premeditated malice is the 2010 quote from Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell:
"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Frank Luntz - GOP Minister of Propaganda
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX),

During the four hour meeting:
The senior GOP members plotted to bring Congress to a standstill regardless how much it would hurt the American Economy by pledging to obstruct and block President Obama on all legislation.
These Republican members of Congress were not simply airing their complaints regarding the other party's political platform for four long hours. No, these Republican Congressional Policymakers, who were elected to do 'the People's work' were literally plotting to sabotage, undermine and destroy the U.S. Economy.

Killer Facts on Failure of Bush Economic Policies
Bush tax giveaways:
• didn't create jobs (Job losses: 7,796,000 for GOP v. 41,000 for Obama)
• didn't create growth
• put us into debt to give the wealthiest Americans a break at the expense of the middle class
BUSH POLICIES: NO GROWTH, NO JOBS, NO GAINS FOR MIDDLE CLASS
BUSH TAX GIVEAWAYS FOR THE RICH DID NOT CREATE ECONOMIC GROWTH; FROM 2001 TO 2007 ECONOMIC GROWTH AVERAGED 2.3 PERCENT ANNUALLY
BUSH TAX CUTS DID NOT CREATE JOBS: FROM 2001-JUNE 2007 JOBS GREW AT 4.8 PERCENT COMPARED TO 16.2 PERCENT UNDER THE SAME TIME PERIOD UNDER CLINTON.
BUSH TAX CUTS DID NOT PRODUCE INCREASE IN REAL INCOME (1.6 PERCENT) COMPARED TO CLINTON POLICIES (14.7 PERCENT).
MAJORITY OF TAX CUTS WENT TO THE TOP FIVE PERCENT OF AMERICANS, MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS SHARED ONLY RECEIVED 7 PERCENT OF THE BENEFITS.
2001 AND 2003 BUSH TAX CUTS THE 'SINGLE LARGEST CAUSE OF AMERICA'S STRUCTURAL DEFICIT.
BUSH TAX CUTS – NOT EFFECTIVE ECONOMIC JUMP START, NO HELP FOR SMALL BUSINESS, INCREASE DEBT
EXTENDING THE BUSH TAX GIVEAWAYS FOR THE RICH WOULD BE THE LEAST EFFECTIVE WAY TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY.
MOST SMALL BUSINESSES WOULD GET NO RELIEF IF THE BUSH TAX GIVEAWAYS TO THE RICH WERE EXTENDED.
2009-2019: BUSH POLICIES OF TAX CUTS AND WARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WILL ACCOUNT FOR ALMOST $7 TRILLION IN DEFICITS.
EXTENDING THE BUSH TAX GIVEAWAYS FOR THE RICH COULD ADD ANOTHER $840 BILLION TO THE NATIONAL DEBT

"It's fairly easy to see why Republicans are blocking our bill to stop outsourcing," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said at a press conference before the vote. "They're obviously defending their presidential nominee, who of course made a fortune by shipping jobs overseas."

The disturbing thing that matters is that the bigger the lie he tells the more he goes up in the polls. It's a sad commentary on the country, really.
Polls are a joke really and should always be taken with a grain of salt pollsters will always get the answers the people paying them want. Really pollsters can slant polls by questions they ask as well as the people they ask which is why polls have been wrong so many times in the past. Right now the GOP have fallen back onto the lets make it seem like their guy is gaining momentum to try to get a lower turn out now that their Voter ID scam has failed.
Oh, Mitt, I can only equate him as a used car salesman.
The people in Ohio, WORK in these plants, they know better.
One word for Mitt: cad. Two words for everyone else: Nate Silver
What I find funny is that ,even if you don't believe Mitt, you are willing to believe a company that is mainly geared to make profits. Companies have lied over the years to keep good relations and smooth transfers while quietly pulling out . I have seen a company I worked at say time and time again we are just doing a little downsizing so we can stay open and say no way are we going to close or ship jobs to Mexico or over seas and within a year have a skeleton crew left from a plant of over 200 workers and....you guessed it.....shipped their jobs down to Mexico and started buying parts from over seas that they had originally made in house! So....... who's to say who is lying. ??? LoL this is too funny . Believe in a corporations honesty and fairness or Romney or Obama . It's like the pot calling the kettle black and this election is an exercise in pick the lesser of 2 evils. Hell I might as well be running for President . Vote for me because I understand the needs of this country better than a lawyer with a God complex or king complex and a (got my own agenda) self made business man . I say Vote for ME! LoL
I'm sorry, @EliseBGood, but you should keep your day job. You may want to go back and read Chrysler's statement, too. You seem to have missed a few things.
The man doesn't know what it is to really work or do without. He was born entitled. Please, I'd love for him to get up at 4:30 am and put in 10-11 hours each day for 23,000 less than he was making (oh wait -- for me that was a big pay cut -- to him that's a penny) come home and repeat four more times a week. They are the party of exclusion and protectionism. What has sickened me is the viral nature of this campaign, the none to suttle racial implications, the absolute lunacy (and stupidity) around women's issues and here's a clue -- no real plan laid out or discussed. We need to VOTE.
PS -- just to be snarky and timely for Halloween -- Ryan looks like Eddie Munster. No costume necessary
I'll place a $10000 bet with anyone who will take me up on it. Here goes. If Romney wins, he will claim that HIS policies kept jobs at Jeep in America. I guarantee it. Any takers?
No, but I'll bet you $1000 that a substantial amount of GM production is moved to china or italy within 18 months (regardless of who is elected).
"If you don't have a record to run on, you make a big election about small things." - Barack Obama (2008 Campaign speech)
Let's focus on this nonsense and completely ignore the unconscionably stupid decisions made as 4 Americans were killed in Benghazi.... WHILE WE WATCHED.
I'm from Imperial Beach CA where one of those Americans came from. My daughter knew him and his wife. They aren't second guessing the president, why are you?
The father of one of those killed is second guessing the president is asking for answers about how his son died. The president could clear it up in about 10 minutes if he gave a damn.
This benghazi story is going to be huge... on nov 7th, of course.
60 minutes did a 30 year old drunk driving story on bush the weekend before the election, think benghazi will even be mentioned this sunday? Yeah, me neither.
Propoganda aside, I want to raise a serious question. Why is an American automaker still calling itself an American automaker if production is in China? Shut down plants in China first. Let us as Americans start there first. Then we can worry about trade agreements and wage manipulators.
@Greg - production is HERE IN THE U.S. for the U.S. market. Chrysler is exploring an initiative to produce cars in China to sell to the Chinese. Meanwhile, Chrysler's added an additional 1100 American workers here that will produce cars for the US market.

What's new with this story? Nothing! Romney has been lying and/or just plain loose with the facts throughout the entire campaign. This fear raising about Jeep manufacturing jobs going to China fits neatly into his platform and into his psyche. As a major outsourcer of jobs, Romney was probably sad that it wasn't Bain Capital that was doing the outsourcing he believes was happening here with the Jeep jobs. What I don't understand is why anyone can vote for this guy.
Isn't it illegal to threaten people's jobs based on how they vote? Couldn't someone raise the argument that Romney is participating in deceptive election practices and coercion? Why is no one screaming from the rooftops about this?
Isn't that what the NEA does to teachers every election cycle?
This great WWII veteran read his poem about Mitt Romney. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

First, Romney will not be the next president, so that's well and good. Romney and Ryan are so concerned with the election, they will say anything to get their skewed message across with scare tactics. I believe this is the same Romney who had to drive a AMC Rambler to school while others had muscle cars like Chevy's and Ford's and Chrysler's to drive. Poor little rich boy wants to get them back for yesterday's crying.
"scare tactics"
You mean like ads with paul ryan pushing grandma in a wheelchair over a cliff?
here we go again more half truth low information statements. Do you know it is a crime to intimidate employees threatening their Jobs by their employers? What is happening to government , oh yea the Bible calls it frog like expressions that are coming from the corners of their mouths. They govern at the detriment of those they are charged to protect.
If Romney feels so gung ho to fight for every GOOD job to stay in America ( instead of being 'exported' to China) why doesn't he fight for all the 120 so Sensata employees at "Bainport" who will be jobless when the factory closes early next year and their jobs relocated to Jiansu province in China? Isnt this hyprocracy of the highest order! when you consider the fact that he is still a shareholder of Bain Capital, the 51 percent owner of Sensata that made the decision to close down the profitable plant and relocate it to China ? Is this what an American ptesidential election is all about - making empty promises, outright lies, shameless hyprocracy? My heart and sympathy for the Americans especially those at "Bainport".
!
How can Romney make such a promise ie to protect every good job in America being exported overseas especially China, when Bain Capital ( the company he started and he is still a shareholder) is closing down the Sensata factory in " Bainport" early next year and relocating it to Jiangsu province in China? The operative words he uses is "good job" - to justify any future action or inaction. My question to Rachel and Ed is: Does the Sensata plan, whcih employs 120 or so US employees in "Bainport" qualify as "good jobs"? From what I read, the factory is highly profitable so good jobs are currently being exported to China and Romney isnt lifting a finger or making any attempts to save it apart from an empty promise to save or prevent every good job from being exported overseas especially China. Oh..the hyprocracy of it all! The workers at "Bainport", NBC and the ( DNC's advertising blitz) should question him on this ! !
I wonder what it's like being a lie in Romney's empty ass head! :)
Why is another Willard lie news? If he tells the truth that will be news! He's been lying since he was Gov. of MA - that why MA is voting for Obama!
The man is the definition of a pathological lier....did he not think Chrysler would call him out? He's desperate and he has no shame...never did.
Romney said that he would stop all jobs going to china, however, ask the 170 people that lost thier job to china in freeport thanks to bain capital
Team Romney has been employing standard Rove-Atwater tactics: it matters little whether his campaign rhetoric has any basis in reality. All that matters is that he can sell it to the voting populace.
The assumption is that If you keep repeating the lie over and over, eventually some people will conclude that it must be true, simply because they continually heard it being uttered.
Furthermore, Mitt routinely makes crap up because he cannot be bothered with doing his homework so that his comments are drawn from verifiable facts and empirical data so that they reflect reality.
Lately, he has been channeling his inner Bachmann -- taking distorted or misinterpreted news reports, unsubstantiated, isolated anecdotal accounts, and wild rumors spawned from the right wing blogosphere, and using them as stump speech talking points ... or worse ... as the basis for formulating public policy positions.
