First up from the God Machine this week is a look at some remarkable comments from a religious right activist named Gary Cass, a former Republican Party official in San Diego who now heads a group called the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission.
In this clip, Cass shares his vision at a Texas conference called "Deliver Us From Evil" where he was a featured speaker.
My friend Kyle Mantyla summarized:
Cass, who normally spends most of his time attacking President Obama, Muslims, gays, and Mormons, spent an hour and a half blasting America for having a "broken moral compass" for electing politicians who support things like reproductive choice and marriage equality. Cass went on to declare that the nation's colleges and universities have "now become perverted factories of unfaithfulness," especially Harvard which is now "animated by the spirit of Antichrist," before attacking "progressive Christians" as ones who "have murdered their own souls, destroyed their own churches, and have undermined our nation."
Finally, Cass explained to the audience that "you can't be a Christian if you don't own a gun."
For the record, that last part wasn't a joke. Cass' read on the New Testament leads him to believe Christianity and firearm ownership are inextricably linked.
Also from the God Machine this week:
* As if Florida voters didn't have enough important races to consider, there will also be an initiative on the ballot on whether to change the state constitution to allow public funding of religious ministries. The right considers this critically important to the larger goal of privatizing public education.
* Evangelical author Rachel Held Evans' new book, A Year of Biblical Womanhood, is due to reach shelves this week, detailing her year-long experience trying to closely follow the Bible's rules for women. She's having trouble with some Christian bookstores, however, who refuse to sell a book that includes the word "vagina" (thanks to reader R.P. for the tip).
* The Public Religion Research Institute published an interesting report this week on the religious coalitions supporting President Obama and Mitt Romney.
* Following up on an item we recently discussed, Mormon blogger David Twede has resigned his membership in his faith, rather than wait for possible excommunication. Twede was accused of apostasy for writing critical online essays about LDS traditions.
* And the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami was hit this week with a new round of sexual-abuse allegations including Father Rolando Garcia, who was the target of related charges from other alleged victims in 2009.

When 1/4 of our population hydrates itself with mountain dew and another 1/4 have sold their souls to budweiser,,, and then the repubs want to get rid of education,,, yeah,,, we are going to beat china by being more christian than they are,,, working really well so far...
What a great clip Maddow showed of the donald on the Letterman show.. The douche said he didn't know where his clothing line was made,, right after slamming Obama re china..
and gack beck is selling jeans now,,, I wonder where they're made....
Our friend David had best recheck his polls. Romney does not have any momentum after all the debates. The latest polling in Ohio has Obama up by 2.5 to 3.0 points for all of this year. This average has only varied little after the conventions and debates. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Ohio show consistent leads for President Obama of 2 to 4 points. I do not get excited about anyone poll because they can change depending circumstances of the day and the quality of the sampling model. Cell phones are a problem for pollsters who have a problem reaching cell phones in a given household. We all know the election will be close. But if you have studied the Democratic party's ground game, office structure, and the overturning of Governor Kasich's anti-union measure by 20 points last year, you will realize that the Democrats are strong in Ohio because unions are completely with the President. The GOP will not be winning Ohio. The Obama campaign has been building up a strong organization in Ohio since 2008. President Obama will be taking the oath of office in January, 2013. The saving of the auto industry plus a strong Ohio ground organization have virtually guaranteed this result.
Here is another revealing poll. True, it is only one poll, but it shows what any realistic observer of American society already knows:
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/politics/176075591.html?cmpid=15585797
I was reading that earlier, Entropy.
"51 percent of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes"
I suppose the authors meant white Americans, rather than Americans. Am I the only one annoyed by that?
I think they meant white Americans. There is a popular opinion that only white Americans are capable of prejudice.
The important implication is that 51% of whites hold anti-black attitudes, and 57% of whites hold anti-Hispanic attitudes. That's a seriously concerning high percentage.
The article was a little confusing about what racial subjects they studied, as demonstrated with the discrepancy in context from "51% Americans" to a similar "57% white Americans". But if the theory holds that only whites have negative sentiments, then the clarification doesn't matter.
I do wish they had provided a link to their complete survey. I'd like to know how prejudice I am towards myself.
He left out the important numbers based on party line, 39% D 69% R and 49% I, oh yeah and for another thing racism in the US is the white majority who have benefited from being white as well as never having been oppressed because of race who are now trying to pretend they are victims of other races because they no longer enjoy all of the benefits being white gave them, even though they still enjoy benefits other races never benefit. Want proof name how many times a white person has been pulled over and asked to prove his/her citizenship.
Well... some cops have asked whom I'm related to. Does that count?
The wording sort of made it sound to me like the authors were not including Blacks and Latinos in "American".
oh. geez. i feel stupid.
i think i was reading it wrongly diffewrently from across a landscape of experiences
Right except you show how little you know about illegals. Here is a clue more illegals come in from Canada then from Mexico. Racist bull@!$%# is all the GOP have and used since 1968 when Nixon created the southern strategy. Really you can run but you can not escape GOP racism.
@whom, according to Pew Research Center, as of 2010, 58% of all undocumented immigrants come from Mexico. If we are to seek real humane solutions, we need to be honest with the facts.
@Kahn, anybody who is stopped by officers for an infraction has their ID checked. But to seek out individuals based on their appearance for the purpose of "hunting out" possible "illegals" is nothing short of profiling, a violation of civil rights.
If we are to address illegal immigration, we must first recognize causations and trends. Undocumented immigration doubled from 1996 to 2006. Since 2007, it has reduced slightly, attributed partially to US economic near collapse of 2008. Historically, economic opportunity was the primary reason for Mexican citizens to come to America, (with green cards as well as illegal border crossings). But interviews with these immigrants is now showing crime and the illegal drug war in Mexico has surpassed their economic concerns. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Americas/2009/0925/p06s13-woam.html
Mexican citizens are fleeing their country to escape violent crime associated with the drug war. As of 2009, who do they attribute the most blame for the drug violence that continues to threaten their families and their country? - Mexican 15%, US 25%, both 51%. http://pewglobal.org/files/pdf/266.pdf
Wanna guess who is the main supplier of arms to the cartels?? WE are a main contributor to the violence in Mexico. First, private US gun manufacturers have State Dept approval to sell guns to the Mexican government. The problem is almost a quarter of those weapons are somehow getting diverted into cartel hands. Some hypothesize that Mexican police are pressured to join the cartels, taking their weapons with them, but we can't be sure of the percentages. What we do know, is US private sales are using lax state/interstate gun laws to illegally sell weapons that end up in the hands of the cartel.
'Halting US Firearms Trafficking to Mexico', a June 2011 report to US Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, by Senators Feinstein, Schumer, and Whitehouse, is a realistic look at what we CAN do to stop our contribution to the Mexican drug wars violence... which results in Mexican citizens fleeing to US. The US drug war needs to be stopped. Illegal private firearms sales to the cartel (and criminals in general) needs to stop.
I'm tired of people spouting off about illegal immigration. If we're serious at all, we will take responsibility for our part in this problem and fix it. If we're more concerned about making a personal profit on the blood of Mexican and US citizens, then we won't. But those caught up in their "rights" to profit off of private illegal guns sales need to STOP with the Fr*ckin BULL@!$%# talk if they really don't give a freakin da^n about lives and real solutions !!! Because I'm SICK OF IT!
Thank you Locknpost
The msm can not even develop a sane narrative on the subject , because everything has to be spoken in a 2 minute time frames of sound bites , americans need to take back the media from corporations , period
The FAST AND FURIOUS fiasco was so maddening , , not one person could seem to step forward and point out most of the guns in mex come from america , by the end of every day , according to the msm , the only guns going to mex were from F and F , the u s justice dept , or DC dems for that matter , would step up to the plate on the issue and make the points you just made
I get sick of dems caving on issues because they are frighten of the gop (gun) nut crowd , these turnip heads will never vote dem , who are they afraid of offending ? kudos to obama for at least trying to address the immigration issue
Typical Mitt wit racism run rampant.
kakhntroll is a legend in its own mind!
kahntroll doesn't like to explain why he/she/it supposedly has a "right to discriminate".
I do have a right to post anywhere in this thread. Now why won't you explain about this supposed "right to discriminate"?
Right play the victim card though it is rather amusing that once again you project your actions onto others. When are you Mitt wits going to get it through your heads, if we want your opinion we would watch Fox news and get it instead of watching NBC so we can form our own opinions, after all unlike Fox, NBC doesn't tell their viewers to go preach it on every left leaning blog..
Oh and heres is a clue on the borders, Mexico/US borders are patrolled with losts of desert and other nasty land features. The US/Canada border only has 32 miles of patrolled crossings and it is rather easy to cross the Great lakes to reach the US and by its own admission Canada says it is easier for people to get into Canada to cross the border. As there they are so lax on security US/Canada borders make it hard for immigration to track illegals coming into the US from Canada.
whomitmay,
Kahn is acting more and more like a particularly vicious internet character named Clayton Cramer.
Do you think I'm afraid of you, Clayton? You would be mistaken.
@Kahn, I'm embarrassed to say, in my frustration, I misstated who were the subjects of that Pew Research study. The interviewed subjects were not immigrants, they were Mexican citizens residing in Mexico. (oops) http://pewglobal.org/files/pdf/266.pdf So I would prefer none of us imply that all Mexican citizens are liars, if you don't mind.
Of the 11.2 million unauthorized immigrants here in 2010, 8.2 million were part of our workforce in the same year. Whether they stayed or not, they represented over 5% of America's workforce.
These are often menial, back breaking jobs that do not fall under minimum wage laws, which are difficult to survive on with America's consumer price index, and therefore difficult to fill with American citizens. I live in an area where industries not only survive, but thrive because of these seasonal workers, where necessary work would never get accomplished without them.
I believe I did see this morning in government statistics that just over half of those families (with children) that stay do receive at least one government entitlement, with health care at the top, followed by food subsidy; but you should check as I don't have stats atm.
As far as the magnet of personal safety goes... though much of the cartel violence is drug war associated (estimated 90%), I'm not sure the remaining unpredictable "casualties of war" can be covered by asylum. Do we offer it to the whole Mexican citizenry? How exactly would we predetermine which applicants are law-abiding citizens, and which are cartel members?
End US Drug War. Legalize narcotics. Stop unaccountable US private profit gun trafficking.
And you wonder why you don't get any respect around here.
Kahn, let me summarize our miscommunication, for which I take primary responsibility:
. Me:
You:
Me again:
Clearer?
Jeezus sez, "Turn the other cheek, then haul out your gat and blow the MFer away!"
I voted early in Florida today.
I was asked eleven times to vote to change the constitution of the state in order to prohibit, among other things, any requirement that citizens and/or employers buy or provide health insurance. I was also asked to change the constitution to promote "religious freedom" by allowing funds from Florida's treasury to be used in aid to any religious institution or denomination.
I don't ever remember being asked to make such extensive changes to a state constitution or, for that matter, being expected to plow through so much legalese to determine the meaning of the question.
The line moved along fairly quickly, though, making me wonder if most voters had already previewed the questions and were answer-ready...or if they had given the questions no thought at all.
Unfortunately, when in doubt people vote no. So a complicated "murder should be illegal" law will easily be voted down.
And now for something completely different, I heard the new Doom and Gloom song today, by the Rolling Stones, the beat was great it sounded good, but I'm really worried about Micky. He sounds depressed, something about mud wrestling and, he's looking for someone named she to have a sexy, dance party. So, I called Stewy up, no answer. I tell you what, I'm having second thoughts about Viagra. I danced with Mr. D a long time ago, no thanks. On a more serious note though, I wouldn't let my kids listen to it. It's pretty negative. The world can be a crappy place, our children do not need anymore negativity. We need some happy endings. We need some Prince Charmings. We especially don't need Hollywood and rock stars making a quick buck at our expense. Teach Your children well.
Right because it is better that kids grow up in a bubble and never have to face reality. That experiment has been tried, which is how we got Mitt wits. Oh yeah and gave us such great beliefs like good girls don't enjoy sex, good girls can't get pregnant and AIDS only happens to gay people. No thanks.
Re: #77.1
Reality doesn't have any happy endings?
I don't want my children and grandchildren growing up in a bubble, but I also don't want them to play in the sewage.
But you can't stop them from playing in sewage no matter how hard you try. Life happens and there is no fairy tale happy ever afters, you survive and enjoy the good moments and get thru the bad, hopefully you can pass that on to your kids but you can't protect them from life. Define a happy ending because reality is you have to create your own happiness which is more a internal feeling then it is a physical thing.
No it is not a choice it is a feeling, people do not chose to be happy or sad they react to what they perceive to events in their lives.
You go ahead then and keep sitting your kids down in front of Jason Part111, or Halloween or whatever it is that you get your jollies from. But, you might not be so eager to do that , after your 14 year old daughter is approached by a car that pulls up alongside her on the way home from school and they have a gun pointed right at her. What happens when your little girl can't watch T.V. anymore because she is too afraid to watch. What happens when she has a hard time speaking to anyone.I'll take the bubble and so will my children.
Ok lets break down your post. First off you are making 2 assumptions 1 that I have children and 2 that I watch slasher movies. The first well I raised a step son the second slasher flicks are not my cup of tea. Unless you keep kids locked in your house you have no control over what they do outside of your home nor do you seem to think that if a friend invites them over to their home your kids won't be watching whatever their friends are watching, kids are sneaky, works well on the I taught them well types not so well on adults who were less then perfect kids, one of my step sons biggest complaints was that I knew what he was doing before he knew what he was doing because I was always one step ahead of him, I knew what I would have done myself at his age, it is called being honest with yourself.
Then there is your stranger danger crap, why is it crap, simple really when you look at statistics you discover 99.9% of all child molestations are done by family members and other trusted adults. Strangers kidnapping children only make up 1/10th of crimes directed at children.
Now your last part is pure hyperbole nonsense, really having grown up on and around farms you learn at a early age what carnage exists when it comes to putting food on your table. Try killing and gutting 1,500 chickens every fall from the time you are old enough to pluck feathers to you leave home, which is why I don't like slasher flicks. Children brought up in bubbles taught to fear everyone will turn out to be the outcast kid afraid to talk to anyone. Why because they are afraid of everything.
Opps should have been 1/10th of a percent. Child abductions outside of parental custody cases are very rare. Your child is more likely to be killed riding the school bus then being a victim of a stranger.
No, my child was persecuted and he decided he would take his chances and meet all of us in the next world. And I haven't stopped crying since, nor have I ever stopped trying to find him. I will meet him one day again soon, but until then I will defend his honor and hold him in my heart. And try like hell to protect the rest of God's precious children. Like so many other Mothers' in this world we want our sons back.
Where is the coverage of LIBYA?
Who gave the order not to assist our people & let them die without a chance?
MSNBC does not even have the guts to cover one of the major stories of the last few weeks
I wonder why?
Because we can't talk about everything all the time.
Also - we talk about it when there is new information.
I personally will draw conclusions when all of the facts are in.
I suggest you do the same.
MSNBC only talks on subjects they feel will help progressive causes. Plus only the parts of the information on those subjects which foster their view.
Just a strange turn that the administration controls the release of facts & that they will not come out before the election. I think we deserve to have as much information as possible before we decide on our next Commander-in-Chief. Obama said the facts will be released as they are discovered. He is not releasing all the information he has, why?
Hey tough guy, it just might be the CIA is down there and much of the stuff is and should be classified. Give Scooter Libby a call; he'll fill you in.
Rather amusing that they believe that other countries have the CSI crap the US has isn't it. Guess they don't realize that the US can not go in and demand answers from other governments, at best what the CIA can do is find people that will talk to them on the hush hush. Good lord they really don't know a thing about the real world do they.
There is no organized government in Libya yet. Their borders are wide open, they have no uniformed armed services, and they certainly didn't mind when we flew air cover during the uprising. Remember that leading from behind thingy? We flew hundreds of sorties over their sovereign airspace without asking permission.
What else ya got?
Sorry not the same as invading the country. All you have is Fox news fake outrage to back you up. Really why would you be in favor of warning the people who plotted the attack by letting them know you were on to them. That is what you Mitt wits do best, claim to know things that you don't know but gosh darn it Fox news says it is so. And still no answer for the GOP cutting the funding for embassy security. Really you can't whine about what Obama didn't do if you refuse to accept what the republicans did. Nor can you call it a cover up if there is no other reason for a cover up other then the delusions you make up in your own diseased mind.
exactly Whomit
This clown is so clue less , he imagines libya is guarding all its boarders when their gov is up and running , he has no idea about the vast geography and tribalism of the area
And your pal Qaddafi was killing unarmed protesters , they ask the US , and the world community to step in , not just america , the fact less gop poseurs strike again
There will be plenty of time to consider differences and what divides those of us who believe in one manner and those who disagree and believe in an opposite manner. Whether that divide is caused by rationale or faith or political matters. TRMS is always going to seek to convey a message (conducive with that of his boss Maddow) against the faithful and especially the Catholic Church. It's rooted in simple terms. The Catholic Church stands against abortion, same sex marriage and many of the cultural progressive issues championed by TRMS and msnbc. So the church stands out as a target for hatred and vile as it's assailed with here through TRMS blog and This Week in We Hate God. Nothing new under the sun. Same ole same ole.
All that aside, dividing circumstances and arguments can be renewed another day. My message this week is for good. I hope all, especially those nearest the east coast remain well and prepared for what could be a devastating storm. Perhaps as some forecasters have said could rival the great hurricane of 1938. One which my grandparents told me many stories and memorable accounts of. 800 lost their lives in that storm and an incredible devastation of property (right on the heels of the Great Depression) was brought about by that hurricane. They lived in the Worcester County where I grew up. Terrible outcome from that storm. And off the heels of the depression they once again had to rebuild a future where everything in the past pointed to despair. What a courageous generation.
Keep safe. Be well prepared and stay out of harm's way. God Bless you and keep you safe and secure. Heck, some of you may come out the other side of this believers?? Who knows. No matter, wishing you and your families and loved ones well.
We'll debate the merits of the campaign another day. This weekend, close out the TRMS's This Week in we hate God just staying safe.
Mary Mother of God keep us under your protection.
Flagged for proselytizing.
"We'll debate the merits of the campaign another day. This weekend, close out the TRMS's This Week in we hate God just staying safe."
Pat It's not God that is the focus of outrage and ridicule but the people who warp and twist religion and faith for their own ends.
I'm sure this guy just made God's list for hell. Doesn't sound like Jesus Talk to me.
He is the kind that give Christianity a bad name.
What sort of Christianity is he spewing out, only what suits his agenda, so judgemental as if he is God. You wonder whether he has ever prayed for the President or has he become God to judge. What about love your neighbour Christianity, what about God is sovereign, what about trust and obey God. I thought and was taught from the scriptures that these instructions are for those who claim to be Christians, followers of Jesus. You sort of wonder what Bible he reading!
"It does not pay for a prophet to be too specific". Sounds very much like R/R's strategy. He will prevent moral decay and economic doom, just ask him how after the election. While they tout their courageous plan to save America, they cravenly pander to the wealthy with a nod to the most bigoted god they can pry out of twisting the words in their bible.
It seems Reverend Cass has lost faith in his God if he believes he needs a gun to protect himself and his neighbor. So, now, guns are more powerful than God, when it comes to protection. A true christian should not be fearful or lose faith in God when it comes to protection. I am sure that is why Mr. Cass and his fellow Christians pray to God. The bible says "love your neighbor as you love yourself." It didn't say carry a gun to protect yourself and your neighbor.
I wonder if a little research might turn up some hanky panky going on in this clown's life. Who is this guy kidding. Politicans are never guided by their religon; their guided by corporate interests. Jesus was not a politically active person and the New testament is full of statements that instruct Christians to lead a separate life from that of the world. These activist TV religious leaders are likened to the religious establishment in the day of Christ. You know, the ones who delivered him up and were responsible for his crucifiction. Look at how they push the GOP platform that leaves the poor out in the cold. All these false prophets have sold their souls. I say they should open their books and show us where all that money they rake in goes.
Of course you need a gun to be a Christan. Jesus was packing everywhere he traveled.
wonder if he was stopped by Homeland security?
No he didn't need to he carried under his robe. "Conceal Weapon Per-mitt"......seriously he was only threaded by a bunch of bully Romans, who out numbered him and it was his destiny.....we all have a destiny.
Republican campaigning in Ohio. Let us not forget the amazing speech given by Phil Davison in the 2010 election.
Republicans are from god, it's true. Adam and Eve's
children through the process of incest, created the
republican party.
Go Irish!
Irish beat Sooners, move to 8-0
9 hr(s) ago By Associated Press
Manti Te'o and Notre Dame don't care whether people believe in them or not. They're just out to keep winning.
Everett Golson threw for 177 yards and plunged in for the decisive 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Te'o bolstered his Heisman Trophy candidacy with a late interception and No. 5 (in BCS Standings) Notre Dame beat No. 8 (In BCS) Oklahoma 30-13 on Saturday night to remain undefeated.
Despite winning their first seven games for the first time in a decade, the Fighting Irish came in as the underdogs but certainly didn't play like it.
''What we'd been hearing was a lot of people didn't think we could win this game. That kind of just added that fuel to my fire that was already burning,'' said Golson, who returned after sitting out last week's win against BYU because of a concussion.
''We just wanted to come out and show them that we can.''
Te'o, the standout linebacker who has a penchant for causing turnovers, dove when Landry Jones' pass ricocheted off Jalen Saunders and got his gloved hands under it. Kyle Brindza tacked on his third field goal soon after, and Theo Riddick added a late touchdown run as the Fighting Irish (8-0) put it away with 20 fourth-quarter points.
''We knew what we could do. Today's no surprise,'' said Te'o, who has five interceptions and two fumble recoveries this season.
''We knew that if we came to work, we came into today with confidence and everybody doing their job that we would be fine. I'm glad we came out the right way.''
Jones threw for 356 yards with no touchdowns for the Sooners (5-2), who were still clinging to hope they could get back in the national title race before the loss. Saunders caught 15 passes for 181 yards in just his third game with the team.
''We're better than we were at the start of the season,'' Jones said. ''We hit a bump in the road. Maybe the national championship's not in the picture, that's probably gone, but we still have the Big 12 and a bowl game up in front of us.''
Any doubts left about Notre Dame should be fading away after winning at a place where the Sooners had been 79-4 under coach Bob Stoops. The Irish are the only team in the country with four wins against Top 25 teams - including two on the road against top-10 foes.
''We really don't think about that. We really don't care what other people think of us,'' coach Brian Kelly said. ''(The players) really just care about each other, Notre Dame and winning football games. They'll let everybody else decide who we are.''
The game revived a rivalry that had been largely dormant since the 1960s, with only one meeting since then - in Stoops' first season as the Sooners' coach in 1999. The Irish won eight of the first nine meetings, including three times when they handed Oklahoma its only loss of the season - most notably in 1957, when the Sooners' NCAA-record 47-game winning streak was snapped.
This meeting between two of college football's two traditional powers was no different, and Notre Dame's throwback defense gave the game a taste of days gone by.
Te'o and the second-ranked Irish defense frequently gave up underneath passes but prevented them from turning into big gains, making the Sooners snap the ball over and over while the Irish waited for a mistake that would snuff out the drive. Oklahoma's first two red-zone possessions ended with field goals, and the Sooners turned to backup quarterback Blake Bell and their ''Belldozer'' short-yardage run package to finally punch one in and tie it at 13 with 9:10 remaining.
Even then, it was exactly the kind of game the Irish - averaging nearly 20 points less than Oklahoma's 44.7 - wanted to be in.
''That was the way we set up. We were going to give up yards to keep the points down,'' Kelly said. ''We could not let the points get out of reach for us.''
Golson, who had to come out for the final play of the third quarter after getting flattened by Oklahoma's Tony Jefferson, answered Bell's touchdown on the very next play with a 50-yard post pass to freshman Chris Brown - his first career reception.
It took five more plays for Notre Dame to punch it in from the 15, with Golson taking a shotgun snap for a quarterback draw and diving into the line from the 1 to make it 20-13 with 5:05 remaining.
Jones tried to rally the Sooners, but linebacker Dan Fox slammed into Saunders as the pass arrived and Te'o - seemingly always around the ball - was right there to pick it off. The Irish, who were giving up just 9.4 points per game, haven't allowed more than 17 in a game this season.
''With this defense, when somebody scores, we get really frustrated,'' Te'o said. ''I think it showed our maturity by how we rallied after that touchdown. We just kept going.''
An Owen Field-record crowd of 86,031 responded to the university's request to ''stripe the stadium,'' with a candy-cane look of alternating red and white sections - appropriately so with a cold snap running through Norman.
The Sooners never could get their offense producing points, and Stoops was denied his chance to tie Bud Wilkinson for second-place in school history with his 145th career win.
''We moved it well. We threw and caught it well. It seems when we got to the 35, we sputtered down,'' Jones said, ''but give credit to Notre Dame.''
Cierre Wood put the Irish up early, taking a handoff and racing untouched right up the middle for a 62-yard touchdown two plays after Oklahoma struck first on Michael Hunnicutt's 28-yard field goal.
Te'o racked up 11 tackles in the first half, plowing through Jones for his first sack to end one drive. The Irish plodded 13 plays afterward, eating up nearly 6 minutes while driving for Kyle Brzinda's 28-yard field goal and a 10-3 advantage.
It was one of three 13-play drives for Notre Dame.
The Sooners thought momentarily they'd tied it up on a 4-yard touchdown run by Bell, but a holding penalty against guard Bronson Irwin kept the Irish's run of not allowing a rushing touchdown intact a little while longer.
Te'o was disappointed that piece of trivia eventually slipped away - or any touchdown was scored at all - but satisfied with another step toward a title.
''We've come a long way,'' Te'o said. ''We're going to continue to get better. That's our main goal right now. Just continue to get better and not be satisfied with being 8-0.''
Keep this up and Irish Catholics will be number One! :-)
After adam and eve ate from the tree of knowledge, gad said man would now be as smart as the gads (plural).
Ok Pat I am all for football (Especially the Irish my Grandfather graduated from there and was a lifelong fan) but I don't think a winning season on the gridiron can be considered a Divine validation of doctrine.
That said GO Irish
Oh, no as if God didn't have enough on his plate, you want him to fix the game for ya? Be careful what you pray for. God hears you but he will answer in his own way.
According to Terry O’Neil, the President of NOW, in Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, acting on behalf of the Mormon Church, which already decided to ‘let’ a woman who needed an abortion for her health and life, have an abortion, went to her parents house and asked that woman, “Why should you get off so easy?” and it was taped! (The Chris Matthew’s Show)
The fact that Romney’s entourage might have taped this, suggests that Mitt Romney wanted to ‘use’ the woman and her situation to advance his political stance on abortion. Possibly wanting to impress his political followers with how far he will take anti-abortion to the extreme.
Why did Mitt Romney think it was right to take the situation beyond the Mormon Church’s own leadership stand? (Does not Freedom of Religion simultaneously protect Churches from the government having power over Churches influence, as well as Churches, separate and common, having influential power over government and the people?)
As far as some people putting religion behind their anti-abortion beliefs, I thought, in Christianity, no one or living being needs to fall victim to being sacrificed again by the religious, since Jesus died for us. So how is it that some anti-abortionists act as if a woman can sacrifice her physical life, personal life and economic life for ‘their’ personal and collective-group beliefs? (I am quite sure that caring about a fetus as a human being 150%, while caring minus 50% about women as human beings, would not impress Jesus.)
What ever happened to Christians and Churches appreciating that Jesus spoke in parables so that people would think for their selves? Jesus knew that people making up their own minds has more power than others dictating their decisions for them has. (Dictating decisions does not belong in my Democratic America or my world.)
Speaking of Gun`s! I guess it`s a moral thing to shoot a 13 year old dressed as a Skunk while invited to their costum partty ..And since when is Politics is in Bibical right`s..,
Benjamin Franklin rose to utter these words: ...God governs the affairs of
men: and if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it
probable that an empire can rise without His aid? Matthew 10:29
I tell you what, Sandy is pretty pissed off. She's already stomped out the cigarette now, she'll dance, or she might wait until Mischief night. Sorry, Mayor. Your house is next.
Have a good (remaining) weekend, all. Stay safe, and go GIANTS!
Go Niners!
Yeah, I think they'll take the Cardinals. Haven't checked the injuries, though.
Hypocrisy runs riot these days and religious hypocrisy is the worst. If you believe a child of rape is God's Will, than you cannot separate the belief that the rape itself was God's Will. We might as not have healthcare or laws because it is God's Will if you die of disease or are a victim of a crime. It is amazing how many people think they can speak for God when, hello, He's God and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a political agenda.
Is everybody ready and prepared?

Graham Nash..."Open up the gates of the church and let me out of here!
Too many people have lied in the name of Christ
For anyone to heed the call.
So many people have died in the name of Christ
That I can't believe it all."
Jethro Tull-"If Jesus saves -- well, He'd better save Himself
from the gory glory seekers who use His name in death."
Another hurricane that is so huge and powerful, especially in October and they keep wanting to say this isn’t Global Warming, except to say some other nonsense crap that is false. I an as spiritual and religious as the next person, but this is really getting ridiculous. What is going to be the next excuse with these hypocrites out there as our weather conditions will just keep getting worse. How many times will people keep falling for pitiful excuses from Republicans, extremists of hatred, and the extreme wealthy? How many more people need to get hurt or die from these severe weather conditions, before something is finally done about it? When is it that people are going to realize that we are the ones who affect our environment? How many warnings do you need before you wake up? Do you think these scientists who study these things just do it for laughs and giggles? Scientists study things, because of that very freewill given to them by God.
So when is Pat Robinson going to blame Sandy on God punishing the US for gay marriage and abortion and birth control?
For sure that will be the next stupid crap that will happen. Only problem with that though is it is heading to New Jersey with Chris Christi fantasy land.
The choice is very simple this election.
Anyone voting for Mitt Romney is actually voting for Republicans starting a war with Iran next year. The neo-con Republicans advising Romney are carry-overs from the Bush/Cheney administration, the same guys who were for attacking Iran after first invading Iraq next door. Only President Bush blinking in his second term stopped Dick Cheney and his neo-con pals from getting us into a third war in the Middle East, with an Iranian War much worse and much more widespread. Why else do you think Mitt Romney went into "stealth-mode" during the foreign policies debate. If he'd actually debated President Obama, the Iranian War cat would have been out of the Republican bag and what sane American would vote for Romney and Republicans starting another Middle East war?
I'm voting for President Obama. At least he appears leery of getting the U.S. into another Middle East war. In fact, he's already stopped the Iraq War and is getting us out of Afghanistan, so he doesn't look anywhere near as bellicose and belligerent as Mitt Romney and his neo-con advisers. I don't agree with President Obama on everything, but he doesn't appear to be a warmonger with a trigger finger, just itching to start wars.
Ever notice most of the people that support this shoot first ask questions later when dealing with other countries seem to be people that never served in the first place?
Phenner: Indeed! And their kids never serve or will. What good is a military if you're not killing somewhere. Geez if not it may have to be smaller! And then the arms dealers would lose some business. It seems imposable that humans ever got along without oil! But we did and we will again.
The best moment of this campaign was rummy's grandson shaking hands with President Obama.
