The Romney/Ryan campaign won some plaudits yesterday for agreeing to scrap its scheduled events as Hurricane Sandy battered the East coast. It turns out, however, there may have been some fine print.
Yesterday, the Republican team said it had canceled today's campaign event in Ohio. Mitt Romney was set to headline a "victory rally" at a specific venue in Dayton, alongside specific celebrity guests, but out of sensitivity, the event was scrapped.
Instead, Romney will appear at the exact same venue at the exact same time with the exact same celebrity guests, but it will be billed as a "storm relief event." What about yesterday's promise about cancellations? A Republican official said Romney/Ryan hadn't broken its word because, technically, this is "not a campaign event per se."
Hmm. The badge for today's "storm relief event" says "victory rally"; the sign on the door described the event as a "campaign rally"; they're playing the campaign warm-up songs for the audience; and before the "storm relief event" could begin, campaign officials showed the official campaign video on Romney's awesomeness.
But don't worry, it's "not a campaign event per se."
Those who praised Romney/Ryan for their restraint in the face of a national disaster yesterday may want to rethink the acclaim.

Romney's Philosophy: Never let a natural disaster stand in the way if there's a buck to be made...or a vote to win.
"MOST" Relief Events are geared towards victims of crisis! So exactly which victims of crisis is Mitt providing relief to! It's a crock, just like he is!
He's a lying sack of cash - how does this example surprise anyone?
i imagine they couldn't sit it out and let obama get all the face time..you know...being president and all.
this will certainly be viewed as opportunist especially when they want to call it a storm relief event - who does he think he is Bono? Let's see if he says something like "donate to the red cross because that's who really should be handling this. not the federal government."
the dishonesty and lack of class proves money can't buy you everything but then all he wants it to buy is this election.
I would not believe anything Romney said. Did anyone know that when he was Gov. he had his own private elevator that no one was allowed to use. He also put tape on the floor in his office designating where everyone was to stand.
Well i really do not have one shed of respect for Romney. I read somewhere he called all the republican governors but no Dem Governors on the Storm, If this is true this shows how he will be as a president and the president should take care of all the people equally. He is a poor excuse for a canidate if he is gonna act this way hope he loses or this country is in deep trouble. Obama called all of them good going President Obama!!
i don't think he should have called all the Governors. I don't want him acting like he's president when he's not. He shouldn't have called any of them because of the optics of just calling the republicans ones and calling all of them.
Let's be honest here, Mitt is just hoping and praying to Elohim that thousands of people die and the FEMA response is lacking so that he can use it as another criticism of the president. I'm sure several versions of the speech damning Mr. Obama for "allowing such a tragedy to occur" have already been prepared to cover any possible eventuality.
Just when I thought Mitt couldn't make me want to vomit any more...
Romney keeps showing people who he is, revealing how disconnected he is to reality, the flaws in his humanity. This is no exception...pay attention.
They must think we can't see through that. And it's sad for Romney to seek attention during this time.
I hope this election isn't a deja vu repeat of 2004. I thought that there was no possibility of a lying, spineless, right wing puppet could beat John Kerry, but I was proven wrong. How can evangelicals vote for a moron...uh...sorry...mormon? How could a woman vote for a pair of misogynists?
an ass is an ass no matter how you dress it up
Ann Ryan is "Campaigning" in Green Bay Wisconsin today, using the Storm & collecting storm relief donations. What kind of person uses a tragic event as a personal opportunity ? How did she even get it organized ? Wisconsin has always been known for the offering the largest donations in tragic events. In 911 we donated the most blood, food & money. In Katrina we offered the most relief. So is Ryan going to take credit for Wisconsin's historical generosity ?
you can bet that Romney is collecting for his campaign fund.
Another example of Mitt's mendacity...the opportunistic panderer.
On second thought- I'm no surprised-

This will definitely come back to bite him in the butt....this will look bad as the news media said he needed to lay low and not do anything stupid...well, let's just say he's stupid to do a rally like this today. Not very presidential IMHO. (He's def worried about the polls in Ohio.)
I agree, it's getting a bit annoying that you all are still surprised that Mitt is a pathological liar. We have got to stop just gently pointing it out, DOES NOT WORK!
I hope that what Chris Matthews said on "Morning Joe" today comes to pass.... Dealing with this crisis will give President Obama the chance to again show he can do his job as POTUS in this crisis. Romney being himself will just look more like the lying panderer he truly is.
I can't imagine what Mittens is thinking...frankly, I think he is getting quite nervous as he watches our POTUS handle this catastrophe with complete finesse and efficiency. He's starting to sweat, especially after hearing Gov. Christie give Obama & FEMA such high praises. Mark my words, this "Sandy Fundraiser" in OH will turn out to be his biggest gaffe yet!
At the end of the day all Mitt Clown care about is being the President, he don't give a s**t
about anything else he will say and do anything to win what a loser
Romney could donate just the taxes he has evaded and take care of all the expenses. What a cheap trick. You know people The high priest of the Republicon party Grover Nordquist said in a video: We want the Senate and the House and a president who has enough didgets on his hand to sign the bills we pass. Well thats Romney. I dont know how anyone can be so fooled as to vote for him.
Fine. "INDEPENDENTLY" investigate Benghazi. you troll. Hope something turns up between now and Nov 6th. Now go cling to your absurd conspiracy theories in the waning days of Romneys pathetic public peacocking.
On our local talk radio station this morning, the host called some random lady in Canton, OH to get her feelings on the election. She was allegedly "independent" but said she had made her mind up to vote for Romney long ago because, get this, he is such an ... "honest" and "credible" guy and "always does what he says he will do"! I almost had to pull my car over to yell a little louder at the radio.
so now that he is calling relief event maybe he can contribute some of his funds and help the victims and some of the small business he claims are under water ..
that should win him Ohio ,, but knowing romney he will problably backdown and blame the storm on Obama he had it all planed out ..
Well it is Obama's fault ... him and his Kenyan, Muslim, Socialists, Report Card Not Showing, Secretly Gay Married, Voodoo ways .... Bad Obama.
