The Romney/Ryan campaign won some plaudits yesterday for agreeing to scrap its scheduled events as Hurricane Sandy battered the East coast. It turns out, however, there may have been some fine print.
Yesterday, the Republican team said it had canceled today's campaign event in Ohio. Mitt Romney was set to headline a "victory rally" at a specific venue in Dayton, alongside specific celebrity guests, but out of sensitivity, the event was scrapped.
Instead, Romney will appear at the exact same venue at the exact same time with the exact same celebrity guests, but it will be billed as a "storm relief event." What about yesterday's promise about cancellations? A Republican official said Romney/Ryan hadn't broken its word because, technically, this is "not a campaign event per se."
Hmm. The badge for today's "storm relief event" says "victory rally"; the sign on the door described the event as a "campaign rally"; they're playing the campaign warm-up songs for the audience; and before the "storm relief event" could begin, campaign officials showed the official campaign video on Romney's awesomeness.
But don't worry, it's "not a campaign event per se."
Those who praised Romney/Ryan for their restraint in the face of a national disaster yesterday may want to rethink the acclaim.

Im an English man living in Norway and of course an Obama supporter, and Im starting to fear that you (the US) are going to elect Romney, and vote out possibly one of the worlds greatest ever statesmen. I was starting to get angry about this, but sometimes you get what you deserve. If you (the US) vote in Romney then that will show the world what the US cares about. Themselves, personally. Why are the american "Christians" so self serving?

Mr. Bloor, there are a hell of a lot of us in the States who despise Romney and everything he stands for. Please don't lump us all in the same boat like that. Voting in Romney would not be a demonstration of selfishness or narcissistic obsession, it would be an indication that the Republican party successfully lied and terrified people into reacting out of fear and artificial desperation.
Unfortunately in the US we have a stunningly uninformed electorate who often vote based on a single issue or soundbite, and many US voters rarely, if ever, verify what they are told by their biased media outlet of choice. MSNBC, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, FOX News, Michael Moore and all the rest long ago realized that you can get the American people to believe any lie as long as you are telling them what they want to hear. (I suppose Americans are no different than any other people that way.)
When you combine a single-issue voter ("Mitt will make abortion illegal!") with a shockingly tepid grasp of how the government works (the President does not actually have the authority to do that), you get these idiots in office who promise what they can't deliver, deliver what they didn't promise, and blame everything on the other party. Hell, I know adult Americans so ill-informed about their own government that they think the President makes laws.
Now, Obama is not the end-all-be-all. He has made some serious errors and has had more than a few failures (most due to obstructionist GOP policies, but they are failures nonetheless). But a Romney presidency would not only be a disaster for the US, but for the world as well. It's going to come down to Ohio this year. Let's hope some level heads prevail, but it's looking grim.
Actually what is going on is the GOP master plan is to stop others from voting by any and every means possible including making it look like robme is a contender. What should tell everyone this is the tampering of the polls to try to slow down voting so people get fed up and leave.

I here and generally agree with everything you say, but I repeat if you elect him, then, you deserve him. If your country has got to the point where by a man can just lie his way to the white house then something has gone seriously wrong with the process.

This is exactly what people will get from Romney if he is elected. He was the governor of my state - and I always felt like he didn't need to follow the rules or had no respect for the people if it didn't suit his purpose. No respect for the people - and this is just another example.
I hope folks can see Romney's desperation and remember that Romney wants to gut FEMA. Maybe Obama didn't do as well as we would have liked in the first debate but the President is doing a fantastic job in commanding/organizing the storm relief and is a compassionate and caring man - OF THE PEOPLE. If you are undecided at this point, PLEASE SUPPORT OBAMA - because I can tell you right now from experience with the Governor, that he would be more like Bush in his emergency response and we don't need that.

I am an independent; but, I want all Americans to do good. I am saddened at the lack of veracity in this campaign and a little embarassed to let people know I am an American after all the lies and distortions in this democratic election in what the world considers the cradle of democracy. I corrected a republican friend's email lies for two years until I gave up on him. When will we get away from the prejudice and bigotry and make our country great again without wars? Well he told us what he would do for a response to natural disasters, after he gets rid of FEMA. Have a small group of volunteers get on a football field and pick up trash in a five foot strip of the field after bringing in a can or two of food. Now as long as the problem is no bigger than a messy football field I think he has a workable plan. After that well its not like you can help everyone.

Remember... Rmoney wants (or did, at one time) to abolish FEMA because it's "immoral" for the government to provide disaster relief, offering instead that the Red Cross could provide those services, or even to (whatasurprise) 'privatize' disaster relief.
SO... I would wager a small chunk of change that Rmoney is pimping for The Red Cross, to use as an illustration of support for his "reasoning".
If one of the celebrities is going to be Meatloaf and if he does another of his versions of the Star Spangled Banner as I have seen in a clip from last week .. it won't be much of a rally because no one will be able to hear a thing Romney says afer that. I actually liked Meatloaf's early work but I fear he has not been practicing very much or very hard. I don't like coming down this hard on singers but I'm sorry .. the clip I saw was just bad .. and quite sad.
