The Romney/Ryan campaign won some plaudits yesterday for agreeing to scrap its scheduled events as Hurricane Sandy battered the East coast. It turns out, however, there may have been some fine print.
Yesterday, the Republican team said it had canceled today's campaign event in Ohio. Mitt Romney was set to headline a "victory rally" at a specific venue in Dayton, alongside specific celebrity guests, but out of sensitivity, the event was scrapped.
Instead, Romney will appear at the exact same venue at the exact same time with the exact same celebrity guests, but it will be billed as a "storm relief event." What about yesterday's promise about cancellations? A Republican official said Romney/Ryan hadn't broken its word because, technically, this is "not a campaign event per se."
Hmm. The badge for today's "storm relief event" says "victory rally"; the sign on the door described the event as a "campaign rally"; they're playing the campaign warm-up songs for the audience; and before the "storm relief event" could begin, campaign officials showed the official campaign video on Romney's awesomeness.
But don't worry, it's "not a campaign event per se."
Those who praised Romney/Ryan for their restraint in the face of a national disaster yesterday may want to rethink the acclaim.

Is it just me or was anyone else even slightly disturbed over Romney's speech today and his heart-wrenching story of having to clean up the football field after a high school game and how they worked together to get it done? I'm sure the East coast residents would love to pick up pop cans and candy wrappers right now!
Waiting to hear from the GOP and rethugs that this hurricane was a " gift from God" to all the cities in it's path of destruction.
Relief is what Americans can expect the day after Obama gets his second term. Anything less is truly devastating, not just to the US, but the rest of the world.
Today, we think about the victims. And tomorrow, we remember the character of those who took advantage of them.
Staring at a Romney bumper sticker on the way home, I realized the "R" looks like two profiles. Two faces? Guess the designer reallu knew Mitt.

That shows amazing sensitivity. Instead of coldly ignoring a disaster that killed scores of people, he has generously decided to exploit it for his political gain. Romney is truly a master of tact.
What makes you think it won't need fact checking?
Are you surprised? Romney is just showing his true self. 80 houses burned to the ground; people forced into shelters and not allowed to return to their water logged homes; babies taken from hospitals; 29 dead! Why wouldn't you go out and campaign? And some Americans are voting for this man? Take a long coffee break and think it over folks! Look at the true leader who was totally annoyed by the reporter who, at the Presidents news conference, asked about the campaign. The President just shot back "This is not the time to be talking about the campaign. " He then proceeded to organize with his staff and the Governors of the States affected. That is a leader not a self absorbed egotist.
Romney asked for donations of items to the Red Cross. The Red Cross has
REPEATEDLY said they need CASH, not items. Romney and Ryan have both USED charity to try to get free good press. SHAME..
Hands to face...and we thought he would tell the truth, the whole truth, for once...NOT!! Makes me sick that he seems to get by with the twisted and out-right lies.
Romney is truth intolerant. He eats, sleeps and breathes lies 24/7/365.
How can voters reward a jerk like this ? If this guy gets to up his dad and be president, we all deserve what we get.
And on an unrelated note, does anyone wonder why they want to sink 2 trillion more into the military than even the military asks for? Because they want to financially set up for a war with Iran to pad their own wallets in some oil related way, just like Bush. and Romney will send your kids with guns you pay for to go get his cash.
God sure makes the god-sheep pay for the entire country's sins. Pretty obviously, they're the ones who keep getting pummelled by these monster storms. If they are so righteous, how come they keep getting crushed by tornadoes, towns wiped out, hurricanes wasting the entire East coast, and when it's not wasting the East Coast, the Gulf Coast picks it up with oil soiling and sinking to the bottom of the Gulf and fouling all the coastal streams, ruining the usta be best fishery in the world, when the hurricane season gets goin' full blow it takes out everything. For people who hate government they sure don't mind taking a lot of bailout money from the Government they hate so much. Ya better vote for Barack Obama if you want your share, if ya vote for mitt, he will liquidate FEMA and then, you're toast. No help except for your busted state treasuries. Good luck with that one Sparky.
I don't believe that you can really spin that anymore. What a load of, well for lack of a noncurse word option, MULARKEY (thanks Joe Biden!)
Puh-leez!!
Craven is craven. Romney staged a photo opp today and called it storm relief effort. He didn't fool anyone.
Political verities:
Todd Aiken will say rape is OK.
Steve King will vote against disaster relief.
Peter King will never miss a chance for Muslim-baiting.
Paul Ryan will rail against stimulus money, then ask for some, then deny he did it.
Mitt Romney will lie about anything to advance his Presidential quest.
Romney and his aides are probably snickering and finding themselves oh so clever.
Well, let's compare notes... so far the Romney camp has lied about... oh.. let's say... NEARLY EVERYTHING?!?!?! So I'm sure this was just an honest attempt at supporting the storm clean-up efforts... NOT!!!!!!!!!!
I am tired of his outright lying and he doesn't even care the he is lying and being called out on it. You know why becasue this election in some polls have he and Pres neck and neck in this election.
So he figures he can lie and lie because deperate people will do anything and vote for anyone.
Leave it to Willard to stage a "storm relief" event -- designed to give him a photo op where he can feign concern for those impacted by the hurricane -- and botch it by encouraging citizens to donate items to the Red Cross which they specifically have stated that they cannot use.
A desperate candidate is running out of time...barely 7 days to go before the presidential election!!!!....instead, lie lie lie....train volunteers to intimidate voters during election, etc etc etc!!!!!!
Romney is invoking #1 in the Sir Humphery Appleby (_Yes Minister_/_Yes, Prime Minister_) playbook: If you want to *appear* to change something, don't actually change it, just change what it's *called*...
I just knew that this guy was not too smart. What does he think , there is no one smart enough to see these things? What dose his followers think he will do once he gets into office? He has an agenda but he is trying to be slick about it. If he dose not tip off his hand, he thinks he can bluff his way into the office. This is no game of poker. There is no prize at the end. Just the most important, hardest, stressful job in the world. Do we want some one that thinks the Presidency is a prize at the end of a game of dead mans bluff? What kind of person do we want? Some one that has nothing to hide, or a guy with magic underpants that bluffs, cuts, and deals his way through life at the expense of others? He looks like some sifi creature with two faces and the real one is a freak of nature scary as hell to little children, and those concern about our future. I say he should go the way of holloween costumes on the first day of November, a place where all the other stuff of past, failed ventures go-- oblivion.

What is wrong with having Health Care Everyone can afford or,
Having a disaster response component branch of the Government?
Or a better, slimmer, technologically superior military, with a reserve component that can beat down aggression?
This guy has the same slightly bent mindset that all Mormons have. They are as close to being a cult as any other religion led by a man they are just led by more than one, answerable to no one, not even their own god,(note: lowercase "g" )
