Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne
Mitt Romney lied last week and told Ohioans that Chrysler was poised to move Jeep production to China. After being told the truth, Romney turned the lie into a television ad. After being told the truth again, he's now expanding the ad buy and launching a radio spot.
Maybe he's running for president of Chutzpah Town.
In any case, it appears Chrysler, which was rescued as part of President Obama's policy, is getting annoyed with Romney's false claims.
Chrysler Group LLC CEO Sergio Marchionne rejected an assertion from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that Chrysler is planning on moving Jeep production to China.
"I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China," Marchionne said in an email to employees Tuesday, a copy of which was obtained by The Detroit News.
In fact, he said the company will continue to expand Jeep manufacturing in this country.
"Jeep is one of our truly global brands with uniquely American roots. This will never change. So much so that we committed that the iconic Wrangler nameplate, currently produced in our Toledo, Ohio, plant, will never see full production outside the United States," Marchionne said. "Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand. It is inaccurate to suggest anything different."
Marchionne's efforts were apparently necessary because panicked auto workers heard Romney's falsehoods and feared for their jobs.
Incidentally, if Marchionne's name sounds familiar, last year, the Chrysler chief was asked about Romney's position that the industry could have bounced back relying solely on private funds. "Whoever told you that is smoking illegal material," he responded. "That market had become absolutely dysfunctional in 2008 and 2009. There were attempts made by a variety of people to find strategic alliances with other car makers on a global scale and the government stepped in, as the actor of last resort. It had to do it because the consequences would have been just too large to deal with."
Romney was wrong. Now he's lying about it.

Imagine having a president who misreads, misconstrues, lies about stuff to the nation and to foreign leaders as often as Mitt has during the past year....
We have a liar already in Obama.I have never seen a president lie as much as Obama. What democrats don't like about Romney,is he speaks the truth.Romney never said they were moving to China,he said they were "poised to move Jeep production"...not the same.He clearly didn't say they were going to move Jeep to China and close up shop in the US.It's you liberals who are the liars, who twist Romney's words in order to make him out to be someone he clearly is not.Stop lying democrats, you sound really petty and desperate.....which I understand why you are.
Please @ Sick -- stop letting Romney play you for a fool.
Sick
Even Chrysler has condemned Romney for out and out lying. You really need to seek help.
Now GM is in this thing! Tonight's Detroit Free Press has an article which features this quote: “We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days,” GM spokesman Greg Martin said. “No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country.”
Let's see if I have the mad skillz to create a live link.

MUTCD sign layouts are replacing the U Turn sign with a picture of FLIP FLOP Willard's face on it. The Highway Department said "this is the most recognizable international image that portrays the idea of changing direction."
Whether you find these FLIP FLOP jokes funny or horrifying they do make a serious point. Willard Romney can not be trusted.
It is more than obvious that Willard will say anything to get elected and then say "it sounded good in the campaign." It shouldn't matter which party that he says he represents he only represents himself.
This type of person has no right to be the elected official of anything. I would rather have the ‘other' party win with a person that holds to their beliefs even if I don't like all of them. I don't want a liar.
The Republicans had a great man of stature and honesty in John McCain. I didn't support McCain, but if he was elected I would stand by this man of integrity.
Many of you do not like Obama but Obama is like John McCain. He is doing what he thinks is best and maintains his goals. Even if you don't agree with all of his policies or the speed of them he is our president and deserves the respect due to the office.
I am frightened to believe that such a liar like Romney would be elected. The USA will suffer and the World will turn on us. I hope that Romney's latest lie trying to take Ohioans on a Jeep ride to China will backfire and put Romney on the side of the road where he belongs.
