The irony is, as recently as August, General Motors and Chrysler desperately wanted to be left out of the 2012 political debate. Indeed, both manufacturers, saved from collapse by President Obama's policy, didn't even want the candidates making campaign stops at their plants.
But Mitt Romney didn't leave them with much of a choice. He forced the companies to intervene.
The Republican lied about Chrysler moving Jeep production to China. After learning the truth, Romney turned the lie into a television ad. Reminded of the truth, he expanded the ad buy. Told once more that he was lying, Romney created an insanely dishonest radio ad on the same subject.
Yesterday, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne felt it necessary to tell his employees that Romney's lying. Soon after, General Motors did the same thing.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has broadened his attack on President Barack Obama's auto industry restructuring, implying that General Motors used the aid to hire more workers in China than in the U.S. [...]
"We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days," GM spokesman Greg Martin said. "No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country."
Look, I understand why Romney's lying. When the American auto industry was on the brink of collapse, President Obama stepped up with a rescue plan, and Romney insisted the plan would fail. Romney was wrong; Obama was right. In states like Ohio and Michigan, few issues matter more -- hundreds of thousands of jobs were on the line.
Romney has run out of ways to explain his failure, so he's lashing out with demonstrable falsehoods. The Republican knows the claims aren't true, and he's aware of the fact that knowledgeable people realize he's lying, but Romney assumes regular folks are fools, and won't know the difference. If he wins, the ends will justify the means.

First of all...you are not electing Mitt Romney, the man, you are electing a "figure-head" who is beholding to his benifactors, ie. the big oil lobby, the insurance lobby, billionaires like Adelson, Koch bros., Donald Trump!! for Christ's sake. These entities shall be running the country...a corporate gov't, if you will...not a democracy.
Also..the only people listening to Mitt's lies are his hardcore base....swing voters are not buying these out-and-out lies, and are not helping Romney obtain any further votes, contrary to what the Romney campaign thinks this will accomplish.
Really sad when you continue to lie...after the truth has been revealed...it's desperation! This man is TRUELY not fit to be "Commander-in-chief"...period!
Very well said Greg. I just hope that you are correct when referring to the swing voters. The ignorance of the Romney supporters is rather unnerving. It is sad to see that people "listen" to what he says and believe it.
Looking at the participants of a Romney Rally is proof that American white people are lower on the evolutionary scale than amoebas.

You have to realize that for the Right, it's about power. And what ever it takes to grab it or hold onto it, they'll do it. Anyone ever hear of the "sacred lie?" It's a term used on the Right to justify lying. As far as they are concerned, what ever they do to gain and/or hold onto power is justified because in their minds only they have the correct ideology to govern this nation.
To the folks on the Right, we Democrats put a chimpanzee in the driver's seat of the bus known as the United States. Honestly, this situation is actually that terrifying to them.
The bottom line here folks is that it is for this reason that the Republican Party must be stomped out of existence. They've become so vile and evil that it is the only answer.
Romney seems too driven, almost demonic...as if he is trying to fulfill some imagined Mormon prophecy...to succeed where his father didn't. If you research what both Dem and the GOP Massachusetts Legislators have to say about his tenor as Governor, You would really see how out of touch he really is...How he is just wants power, not really interested in governing.
I keep trying to convince anybody who will listen to me that this man LIES! I just can't imagine having a President who lies to the country and never thinks a thing about it. It's downright creepy.

It seems that a simple phone call by Romney could have spared him the shame and humiliation of being WRONG AGAIN, except that he apparently has no shame and cannot be humiliated when called out on said lie. Kudos to Chrysler and GM for putting the lie to his ads.
It seems to me that demostrable lies by a candidate should be grounds for disqualification. It's indicative that the candidate knows that he can't win without cheating. And if you're so bad at cheating that you get caught (in this case by your demonstable lies) then you should be scrubed from the race. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in a civil society. But we are no longer a civil society nor a meritocracy.

Romney believes if he just keeps lying to them every day about something new, they will get confused (as the simple minded people he wants to be President of do in his and Ann's mind) and will vote for him buying his lines of garbage. THEN, he can govern any way he wants because throwing him out of office will be nearly impossible.

I can not believe people are falling for mittens lies. I am scared to death that this fool will get elected. Are his supporters reading and seeing different news papers, news than the rest of us? They accept the lies, how. Who would in their right mind vote him in. I am just so disgusted with his campaign, flounder man, he flips and flops all the time.
1) These people have no principles and no shame, a scary proposition. 2) I'm convinced that Romney is an airhead and a figurehead; if he's elected, someone else, like Rove or Adelson, will actually act as President while he practices his condescending smile in the Oval Office mirror.

My heart and prayers go out to the victims of hurricane Sandy in my home town, the rest of the Caribbean and United States where he did the worse damage. I would like to see these lies about Jeep be covered from a different perspective. Why would a "savvy" business man intentionally hurt an American brand? That's what he's doing and jeopradizing American jobs in the process. I mean if you are taken in by his lies - would you buy a Jeep? I'm sure that's a concern of Chrysler and GM.
Politicians spin. Hate that but sadly have come to accept that. Blatant lies are something else. A good liar remembers his or her lies. Romney doesn't. So I worry he is not a stable person. If he gets the 3 AM call, will he fall to pieces? I think so. I don't think he can psychologically handle the stress of being president. It seems he can't make a statement unless someone has written the script for him. Where's the script or his handles when that dreaded 3 AM calls. Ann has already worried about his emotional state should he loose. If Obama lost to someone like Gov. Christy, I would be disappointed. If Obama looses to Romney, I am absolutely terrified.
