A couple of months ago, Larry Flynt offered a considerable reward to help expose Mitt Romney's tax returns. That didn't turn out well, but the Hustler publisher hasn't given up; he's just shifting targets.
Flynt will run a provocative ad tomorrow in the Indianapolis Star, offering a cash reward to Republican Richard Mourdock, the U.S. Senate candidate in Indiana. In an open letter, Flynt tells Mourdock:
"I am offering you $1 million in cash, to be deposited in any bank you designate in the United States, Cayman Islands or Switzerland, for proof to substantiate your statement on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, that 'even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.'
"Please be kind enough to verify your claim for a wondering nation. I will accept for purposes of this reward any verifiable transcript of your personal conversations with God; letters, email, text messages or videos from God, or messages addressed to you from God transmitted by any third party, including the Republican National Committee or the Romney/Ryan campaign.
"I assume that you would not have made this statement unless you had been authorized by God. No one who believes in God would ever use the Almighty's name in vain. That would be blasphemy."
Flynt is asking for Mourdock's proof by Monday night. I have a hunch the Republican won't respond, but a seven-figure check awaits him.

God Bless Larry Flynt!
Wait? . . . What?
Oh great! Now we have ignorant blow-hards on BOTH sides of the campaign. Thanks, Larry, for bringing the progressive cause down to the level of Donald Fukking Trump. What a moron.
If I were given the choice between him and Mourdoch, I'll take Larry. You can say what you like about what he publishes but at least you can be certain he will never try and take away you 1st amendment rights
Why would you assume that my comment had anything to do with Larry Flynt's day job? Hell, I'm as big a fan of smut as the next guy. What I am NOT a fan of is making the progressive cause look as ludicrous and desperate as Donald Trump and the Rethuglicans. That is what I object to.
False equivalency . . . President Obama (if he weren't such a class act) could actually collect on Trump's offer. No proof exists for Mourdock's ridiculous claims, which is exactly the point Flynt is trying to make.
I'm getting a little tired of this "both sides do it" crap.
the difference is Reductio ad absurdum:
In this case I would say he is highlighting Mourdochs own zealotry and using it against him where as Donald trump is simply highlighting his own and making himself look absurd.
And if I believed that the general electorate were capable of the level of reasoning that you both clearly are, I might agree with you. But the very fact that nearly half of the country is prepared to vote for a pathological liar, clearly proves that they are not.
Irony alert!
Never let other people define your intelectual capacity. In this case enjoy the fact that your in on the joke
I think Flynt brings a balance to this...can't deny even the Left has some "colorful" figures and they've been relatively silent this campaign season. It takes someone with Larry's personality to call out the Wingnuts and make them accountable for their statements. Too much has gone relatively unchallenged. Go Flynt!
The sad thing is that the Indianapolis Star will print this ad (they need the money) and the local republicans(or morons as they are more commonly known), who already think it's a liberal rag, will condemn them for running it while completely missing the irony. And just to be clear , The Star is a rag, but they balance out their coverage pretty well.
Dear Mr. Flynt,
I have $35000 worth of student loans to pay. If Mr. Mourdock doesn't come through, may I respectfully request a fraction of what you've offered him so that I can be debt free before I die?
Thank you.
PS. Please also forward this to Mr. Trump.
Say what you will, the left has better and more creative trolls.
The right has James O'Keefe; the left has Michael Moore.
The right has Donald Trump; the left has Larry Flynt.
That's 2-0 by my count.
What has happened to values? We're now down to comparing these four opportunists and scoring them.
There's no comparison between O'Keefe and Michael Moore. Moore is a serious filmmaker whose movies provide social commentary. He is up front about who he is and what he's investigating when he interviews those who appear in his films.
O'Keefe is a clumsy, glory seeking fool whose work is fundamentally dishonest and who has to hide his identity because of his bad name.
mpguy -- You're right in all the particulars. But, if anything, it simply strengthens the point. (And Moore wins the head-to-head with anyone else who might fit. D'Sousa? The jokers behind the Ayn Rand movie?)
Tom-367 -- What values are you talking about, exactly? I'm curious. And I hope you can still see a touch of humor behind your vigorously-clutched pearls.
Good one.
@Tom-3671033 - It's the difference between those with a sense of humor, wit and irony and those without. Progressive sense of irony -2; Teathuglicant sense of irony - -0-
Michael Moore and Larry Flynt aren't trolls. You, however, are a drooling moron.
Oh, TCinLA, you're so cute when you get angry -- especially for no reason!
By the way, look over there! See that? It's the point! You missed it.
Whether or not the offerings are equal , The Donald and gun crippled Larry Flynt , isn't there somewhere inside the latters pitch a devilishly funny comparison ?
Oh I suppose the Sisters and Brothers will be waiting with their corporal sticks for those misguided souls mistakenly permitted to view heaven , with all its fine cottages and picket fences .
Still there is something unsettlingly funny about seeing the awesomely dignified offer to Obama to prove he isn't what he cannot , eva eva eva , prove to the racists and hate mongers . When that is being forcibly compared to the highly sententious moralizing equivalence of a disgusting violence against a defenseless victim . Considering one is a man who in all fairness is a high official with years of experience in breaking the law for his own political religious interpretation of a matter , while another is a man who operates with respect to law , and does what he can to empower the defenseless to be equal under the law without denigrating his opponents .
Yeah right , there equal ...
You may not appreciate how Larry Flynt made his money, but you've got to hand it to him for his chutzpa! Bravo Larry!
And if Mourdock doesn't take you up on your offer, I have a few bills I'd dearly love to be paid off before......Just call me...
Who was it who said that it's amazing how often god tells those he speaks to exactly what they want to hear?
Well it's fine by me as long as the person is at least an Apostle or some kind of Prophet. Since we are lucky enough to have several of these in circulation, there is no reason why they should not be able to work with God to arrange for Mourdoch to not look like an idiot.
Tommy -- There are already too may self-annointed prophets lurking around. Please don't wish any more of them on us.
Actually, Tommy, republicans spell it P-R-O-F-I-T.
I don't know where else to post this but if there is a way you can show this to your family members and friends,

Dejected Progressive; Please understand, I'm only asking for clarification, not being dismissive of your sentiment:
Are you looking at the pointing finger and not in the direction at which it is pointing? Flynt's extended middle finger may be objectionable in and of itself, but I think it is pointing toward the idea that Mourdock, ostensibly espousing Christianity, is ignoring John 8:7. The Teaparty/Taliban/Republican party think they have a better understanding of "God's Will" than Jesus. They support the idea of shooting women in the head for making decisions for themselves instead of kowtowing to the local patriarch.
I'm suggesting that neither the vast majority of the public nor the vast majority of the media are willing/able to make the kind of nuanced distinctions required to understand that the two are, in fact, different. They will simply see Larry Flynt as trying to "copy" Donald Trump and treat them both with similar contempt. This DOES NOT advance the progressive cause. It might make some folks feel better by hitting Mourdock with a "gotcha" but seriously, is that what this should be about?
On the other hand . . . the extreme right has gotten away with too damn much in the past because progressives were too scared to call them out on it or to respond in kind.
Come on, Dejected. It's time to jump off the high road. Follow me!!!
But larry flynt is not an obama endorser , or a supporter of dem causes , while Trump is an open advocate for romney and the gop
Dejected Progressive; I reiterate, are you looking in the direction pointed (John 8:7 ... John 8:11) or at the finger (Flynt, someone you seem to not hold in esteem)?
I don't know Flynt, but guess he and I don't agree on a number of things. On this one topic, though, I think we may. I have often caught myself praying for mercy for me & justice for others, but I don't try to justify my prejudices by saying I have an inside track on "God's Will".
I readily concur that many may not/have not/will not make the distinction. I know I have caught myself looking at the finger vs the direction, and who knows how many times I did it and failed to figure it out.
As for Flynt, a well made point is a well made point regardless of its source. "Out of the mouths of babes..."
On regards to this I think I know why he did what he did. Obama is more than likely not going to respond to the fail broke ass that is known as Donald Trump. So in light of the inevitable where faux news loses their @!$%# and take this as well as their benghazigate(?), make it headline news that Obama can't be trusted, blah blah blah that there is a counter argument to that as well. But that's just me.
Could someone advise me of a link without having to download weird software, that allows viewing live MSNBC please.
I really appreciate your help. MSNBC, how is it that CNN allows live viewing to cable subscribers but you do not?
Larry's got a point, and he didn't even need Viagra.
Bravo !! Makes me wish there were a god to bless Larry Flynt. Bummer Dude !!
Larry Flynt! This is the Lord Thy God ! Larry, take your money and donate it to the Red Cross. I get what you're doing and I appreciate the humor. But seriously, give that money to some deserving folks who are only trying to make the world better . Especially after I sent that freakin big storm. And do you really think I would talk to a tool like Mourdock? You can say that I don't make mistakes, but I do. Take houseflys for instance. Annoying little pests with no value. Kinda like Mordouche. Sorry about him. My bad. I'm reincarnating him as a boil on Trumps ass.
Do not MESS with the Yahweh !
Woah, Larry, you're taking a bit of a risk here. Rompypompy and Lyin' Ryan can easily say they've had tons of messages transmitted to them from 'God', and no one can prove them wrong (except 'God' of course!). Would be an interesting lawsuit.
Flynt ROCKS!!
