Sens. Mitch McConnell (R) and Chuck Schumer (D)
In mid-September, the non-partisan Congressional Research Service published a detailed report, documenting the fact that reducing taxes on the wealthy does not, in fact, generate economic growth. Instead, the CRS found, the trickle-down model appears to be "associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top."
The report was no small development. After all, as David Leonhardt noted when it was published, the CRS analysis undermines a "defining economic policy" of modern Republican thought. Indeed, the entire Romney/Ryan economic plan is predicated on the assumption that supply-side theory works, and here was the CRS saying it doesn't.
As of today, the CRS report is no more.
The Congressional Research Service has withdrawn an economic report that found no correlation between top tax rates and economic growth after Senate Republicans -- including the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell -- raised a litany of concerns with the paper's findings and wording.
The decision, made in late September against the advice of the agency's economic team leadership, drew almost no notice at the time.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who has referenced the CRS report, told the Times, "This has hues of a banana republic. They didn't like a report, and instead of rebutting it, they had them take it down."
This is more important than may even be apparent at first blush.
For those unfamiliar with the Congressional Research Service, this is effectively Congress' own think tank. It's non-partisan, and it's generally counted on to provide lawmakers with the most reliable and accurate information available.
Critical to the work CRS researchers and scholars do is the understanding that their scholarship is free of partisan influence -- they provide accurate reports and leave it to policymakers to act as they see fit.
But in this case, the CRS presented Republicans with inconvenient truths. A spokesperson for Mitch McConnell said the officials at the research service "decided, on their own, to pull the study pending further review." While that may be true, the question then becomes how much pressure the CRS officials were under to make this decision "on their own."
And what is it that Republicans didn't like about the CRS analysis? McConnell aides offered a series of complaints, including the report's use of the phrase "Bush tax cuts."
Apparently, in Republicans' minds, to say "Bush tax cuts" is to use an inappropriate "tone."
But putting all of that aside, we simply cannot have a functioning federal system in which neutral, independent offices are ignored, pressured, and/or censored when Republicans don't like what they have to say. We've now seen this recently with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Congressional Budget Office, and democratic norms dictate that GOP officials cut this out.
Really, just stop it. If objective truths bother you, don't blame the messenger, blame your bogus assumptions.
For what it's worth, the CRS pulled the report from its website, but Senate Democrats have liberated it, republishing the analysis on their own site.

Republicans, still making up their own facts, on everything.
There's a cure for this, but it involves violence.
An alternative to violence is to vote.
Since Repubs control the voting machine manufacturers, voting may be a moot point. I'm still voting, but I don't trust electronic voting machines. Give me a paper ballot anytime.
Well, if people can't be bothered to vote, there might not be an alternative other than violence.

Stop Fox News: Tell FCC To Revoke Broadcast License NOW!
SIGN THIS PETITION
http://act.watchdog.net/petitions/109?n=2109733.lWqwYp
Help us take Fox News off the air—get the FCC to revoke Rupert Murdoch’s broadcast licenses NOW!
The deplorable actions Murdoch has taken to run his News Corp. empire prove we can't trust him to act in the public interest. Now, a study by Farleigh Dickinson University shows Fox News can’t even claim to inform its audience: its viewers are less informed than those who avoid news outlets altogether!
It’s the Federal Communications Commission’s job to consider the character of a media owner when dealing out broadcast licenses, and to label programs as news only when they actually inform viewers. The Murdoch Mafia has failed on both counts, and we have a chance to take them down for good. Save the airwaves from bigotry and corruption: tell the FCC to enforce the law NOW!
FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION: Rupert Murdoch has failed every “character” test available, and the programs under his broadcasting licenses have both been implicated in scandal and have been proven to make audiences less informed, not more. We urge you to revoke Murdoch’s broadcasting licenses immediately, and to take a stand against his corrupt media empire.
That wouldn't bother me so much. It's their ability to shut down the truth that's a serious threat to the Constitution.
I want to know why no news media have picked up the story of UAW filing a formal complaint with the US government ethics office because Romney did not disclose a major investment in the auto industry before the bailout occurred
Hope? Cable stations don't have broadcast licenses and the FCC doesn't have the power to take them down. That only applies to over-the-air broadcasts. And, in any case, Reagan changed the regulations to make "public interest" mean "spewing any kind of content at all into the air as long as it doesn't expose the children to bare boobies or the seven forbidden words."
You need to check your facts Steve . . . oh, never mind . . . fact checking is kryptonite to right-wing puppets :
The 1934 Act has been amended many times. Communication technology has changed dramatically during the FCC's history. These changes include the introduction of the following:
FCC responsibilities have increased to accommodate the regulatory issues presented by these new technologies. Consequently, it now shares regulatory power with other federal, executive, and judicial agencies.
Tax cuts for the rich REALLY does boost the economy... ONLY WHEN THEY WANT IT TO!
After the finacial meltdown and uncertainty with what Obama would do, the billionaires and millionaires shifted their money out of the country...the money is sitting pretty somewhere! But not here, not in the US in our banks and in our economy.
All it takes it waking more people up to the agenda of the right wing. The are for the one percent and only for the one percent. They want the tax cuts and they want the huge increase in Defense spending. Everything else can be on the chopping block and it will be unless more real Democrats are elected who care about average Americans.

Hope42012, you need to go back and reread wherever you are getting your information. Cable providers are regulated in content by their franchise agreements with municipalities. This usually means that they must carry local broadcast stations and/or Community Access channels and/or Local College educational channels, etc. This is because they lease the right-of-ways from the community. Communities typically do not restrict the content that cable providers offer. That would get them into 1st Amendment territory where they would lose. Swiftly. They could carry gerbil Pr0n if it were legal. Basic cable on Comcast here in my town doesn't carry Fox (or CNN, or MSNBC, or CNBC). That comes with the Expanded Basic package which costs extra. That's not true in some cities surrounding us.
The only thing the FCC regulates is their equipment, the same way your computer or iPod or microwave oven is regulated. To make sure it does not cause electromagnetic interference with other devices outside its intended function. This is the crux of why the FCC gets to regulate what goes out over the airwaves. It's a communal resource that by its nature can cross civic and state boundaries.
But political speech is special. You don't like Fox? Here in California, a convicted felon and con artist Lyndon LaRouche (Think John Bircher, but loonier) who was a 7-time candidate for the Democratic nomination for president spewed some really crazy stuff that only Glenn Beck would listen to. He'd rent 1/2 hour airtime on local stations. And it was his right to do so.
What we need is a law like Canada's that says that if you are going to call yourself a news and information provider, you must provide factual information. It's a little tricky because of the 1st Amendment and our deep love and social commitment not only to satire, but the right to watch unintentional satire. Here in Northern California, we loved Dr. Gene Scott on channel 38 in the Bay Area. Total nutcase, used to blackmail his watchers and throw tantrums. The crazy guy on the street corner/college quad, but with a television studio and station of his own!

Repeating Right-Wing Robotic Rhetoric is not knowledge . . . but whatever helps you get out of bed in the morning right ?
Jefferson had the foresight to know that occasionally force would be necessary. Of course the GOPTP thinks this is the time for all the wrong reasons. I think we should be very afraid on the one hand, and fearless on the other (should another treasonous idiot be appointed or elected as our President.)
Sorry Miracle. Let me share something that is "The More You Know." Until Reagan abolished the Fairness Doctrine, broadcast channels had to give equal access to political speech. Were it not for the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine, Fox News could not exist today. The same cannot be said for MSNBC because they don't make up their own facts. As much as you would like to educate us, turns out you need a bit of education yourself.
The More You Know . . . indeed.
Fox News and Fox Business are cable channels. It is not regulated by the FCC. The fairness doctrine would never apply.
The Fox that broadcasts The Simpsons over the air is not the same entity. They are all owned by News Corp
All you are succeeding in proving is that we on the left have low-information dolts as well. Go back and re-read wherever you think you got this information and look out for qualifying adjectival phrases like over-the-air (OTA). Broadcast does not mean over the air. Broadcast means one to many.
Careful with that snark r1nl8, it's a double edged blade and you're bleeding on the floor.
FCC responsibilities have increased to accommodate the regulatory issues presented by these new technologies. Consequently, it now shares regulatory power with other federal, executive, and judicial agencies.
Fox News promotes and fosters treasonous lies that put in danger the security of our society. They deliberately tell half truths at the expense of our security.

This is another important piece of evidence, in the coming political storms, that the Republican party has become unanchored and unmoored!
To whimsically and capriciously push back on data that will help us as a people and nation work in the right economic direction in our future is to play folly with realities of pain and suffering for those who not only do not benefit from Stockwell's brainchild, but those who would directly feel the brunt of Republican policies, carried out no doubt at their very expense! -Kevo

Troll!
The historian, Plutarch; the Mormon Republican in the FDR administration, Marriner Eccles; and the iconic economist, John Kenneth Galbraith all agreed: the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few was devastating to an economy. It makes sense; when currency is in short supply among consumers there is a lack of demand to spur production.
The Republicans main political goal has been to make the rich richer and the working class poorer. This only works in a democracy if they can convince voters doing that is somehow beneficial. It obviously isn't, but they have to come up with dubious arguments anyway. They can't stand to have one exposed as a fraud.
The Republicans main political goal has been to make the rich richer and the working class poorer.
You do understand the two aren't related, right?
I would disagree with the part about Republicans' goals include making the working class poorer. I doubt the very wealthy give the working class much thought at all. If they did, Marie Antoinette couldn't have made her Romneyesque statement about cake.
As for trickle down or supply side or whatever you care to call it, if the "idea" had any validity, the French peasantry would not have had to revolt. The United States was born of the idea that taxation without representation is not a good thing. The very basis of representative government is the idea that a burden shared is a lighter load, two heads are better than one, e pluribus unum, one man one vote, "...all men are created equal..."
This can't be rocket science. Even this old red necked Ozark hillbilly gets it.
Maybe gop shooter can explain why his party hates unions so much then ? if its not living wages and bennies , what is it then? You people just hate the union picnics?
Wealth and power are relative. There comes a time when making yourself richer is much more difficult because you can already afford pretty much anything you want. But making others worse off? That gets the same result with much less difficulty.
Power and wealth can both be defined as the ability to coerce person-hours of work. So making the rich richer and the poor poorer can be related though they don't have to be. The Republicans have decided more money for them and lower wages for working people both lead to greater wealth.
I have challenged Republicans to name an issue where the GOP has taken the side of the working man in the last 40 years. No one has been able to do so. It has happened once- in the George W. Bush administration, but it was rather obscure.
All these conspiracy theories!!!!! Who REALLY shot JFK? We know who sht JR.
It's about time we showed a Bain man the simple basics of business. You need four things to start a business: a product or service, owner, workers and customers. The country always has good ideas for products and services. There are plenty of people ready to work. There are plenty of wealthy owners. But these wealthy owners won't invest in expanding their businesses unless they have more customers, and there are none right now. Customers are the true job creators and when things are as bad as they are and nothing is moving, owners need the government to give the 99% a boost so they have people to buy their products and services. In order to pay for this we need smart cuts that strengthen these programs and the 1% to raise revenues so the deficit doesn't blow up the economy. The 3% more the top 1% contributes will come back to them tenfold as they make a lot than 3% in profits by investing in businesses they now have customers for.
The tale of "The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs" is not a very long story, and its point is not at all obscure. Even Henry Ford figured it out.
Short-sighted self-interest is invariably myopic.
Since we've determined by experience during the Obama administration, things like the stimulus, and the payroll tax cut didn't do anything, perhaps you should ask yourself where people usually get the money to become customers. (Hint - a job)
But hey, I understand that's not politically correct. God forbid you actually find ways to make profits, even though profits are the source of jobs and tax revenues.
Thanks for the examples. If you look at all of the estimates they say that on the low-end the stimulus created 1.5 million jobs and at the high-end it created 3 million jobs. If you don't think that's enough, you're right, we should have done more stimulus. 1/3 went to manufacturing and construction workers to do some of the much-needed infrastructure work now, while the costs are cheap and we need the jobs. Since you mentioned the payroll tax cut, the other 1/3 of the stimulus went to tax cuts for the middle class that I thought Republicans were for. The other 1/3 was support for the jobless at a time when we were losing 800,000 jobs a month, but I know you don't want to support the jobless. Those at the top income levels have continued to rake it in over the last 10 years and they're not creating more jobs because they won't invest in anything if they don't have customers to turn a profit. The more money you give them, the more they'll hold onto and no one can afford that, least of all our deficit. It's called strength through balance. Skyscrapers are built from the bottom up, not the top down.
What's really funny is that even though 1/3 of the stimulus went to tax cuts, Republicans don't cut 1/3 of the cost of the stimulus bill from their figures. Ya know cause tax cuts are free...except when they're not
How long does it take people to understand just what is going on in their country. The banana republic part is just the most obvious.
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
This is Corporate 1984 with the masses being placated with their beloved religion. Hasn't everybody always wanted to live in a pluto-multi-theocracy?
Why would anyone believe McConnell or his aides about anything?
So much for being a non-partisan Congressional Research Service.
My thought exactly. We can't have truth because the Republicans don't like it?
Is no one asking: What have Republicans done for anyone lately? Like in the past 12 years?
I think you're looking at it the wrong way.
Question: Why does the media not challenge Republicans on Republican talking points despite them being misrepresentations of fact or flat out lies?
Answer: Because doing so would violate the "both sides do it" meme and give credence to the Republicans-are-all-victims-of-the-big-bad-media meme. The media will not challenge Republican lies because doing so makes Republicans cry "partisanship!" "liberal bias!" and so on. Journalists who are attempting to keep their credibility as non-partisan or middle-of-the-road therefore forgo facts in favor of a better reputation.
It's quite possible that the motivation here wasn't to help Republicans, but rather because the Congressional Research Service did not want to lose it's credibility as a non-partisan.
Cartoon , imo that would be determined by THE REASON the CRS gave for withdrawing the report , what reason did they give , or did they even give one ?
Look , the public is not going to be outraged , because the public does not know about this , this is an issue dems should be hammering , anyone with a brain has figured out trickle down is a joke , until dems fight tooth and nail , the gop will just keep ruining us all with it
@Pat:
Fair enough. For the record it's from this that I was extrapolating my belief:
That makes it sound, to me at least, that Republicans are hounding all economic studies that do not conform to the ideological belief of trickle down economics. Which means that if any institution wants to remain credible they have to automatically disavow the study the second Republicans begin to whine about it otherwise that means the institution's credibility automatically becomes suspect.
Should it be that way? No. Republicans, and not the researchers who put their time and thought into these studies, should be the ones to conform OR they should be forced to prove why the study is wrong. But that is not going to happen. Those who should be backing down are not going to back down; those who should not be backing down are going to be forced to in order to maintain any credibility (as paradoxical as that is). And thus you have Republicans justifying a lie by creating conspiracy theories about a liberal bias living among all institutions thought non-partisan simply because those institutions had the audacity to disagree with the Republican Party platform.
Recall that whenever possible I try to point out the ridiculous ego of the modern day Republican mindset. They have an ego problem and automatically start from the premise that everything they say is intrinsically correct and anything anyone else says is automatically incorrect if it doesn't agree 100% with their pre-determined world view. That attitude creates a situation in which you must purge any and all information that does not conform to the pre-conception: or, as other bloggers have put it, it's an ideology purge.
Either assimilate or be destroyed. We're watching you.
I will be looking into the reasoning and post it in one of Steves CONSIDER THIS AN OPEN THREAD posts , to be clear , I am not trying to argue with you , I am sure you realize that , these people are doing the job they are assigned , and they are being shut down , WHY that effort to shut them down was successful is what irks me and makes me curious as to how it went down , I do not buy that THEY FOLDED TO KEEP THEIR CREDIBILITY , because folding makes it all NON-CREDIBLE , so the details matter , as well as this study being broadcast loud and clear
So true. "Non-partisan" is obviously a misnomer if they're bowing to the wishes of their Republican masters.
With all due respect to Schumer, this is not like a banana republic.
It's like a Soviet "republic."
Not Soviet, Chinese
Beijing is these peoples city on the hill, the kind of world they would aspire to. Information is under the absolute control of the state. Labor is cheep to the point of slavery. Government regulation is dependant on the amount of kickbacks and bribes you are willing to pay and who your enemies are and the wealthy can do as they please with impunity...
Good point.
What a pile of garbage! The Republican party has become such a thug-infested, fear-mongering, freedom-stealing bunch of jerks. At this point, none of us is surprised at the extent that party will go to in order to suppress information, modify information, and outright lie about it. What a bunch of disgusting people. I wish more Americans would recognize that Fox News isn't news, and would watch MSNBC instead. They complain that MSNBC is super left-leaning, and it's fair to say that most of the anchors and hosts are that way. But the information they provide- that's not biased. Those are facts, they speak the truth. The motto of the Republican party though, is "WE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!". When the truth is in the left's favor, you're better off voting for people from that side.
I always find it interesting that people argue the wealthy need more to be able to build businesses, and, therefore, to provide opportunities to those further on down. People build businesses in their garages... in spare bedrooms... sometimes with little or nothing more than a computer. To say that the people with the most can't do it with millions (and millions and millions and/or billions) of dollars???? How good at building businesses and creating jobs does that indicate that they are?
The 99% have embraced the reality that we have to continue to do more with less. The 1% are the only ones who have continued to make more throughout this recession and could easily do more with less, but they refuse to.
Kassr, It drove me nuts when not one of the debate moderators bothered to as a follow-up to Romney's "I'm not going to give a tax break to the wealthy. It will be offset with eliminations to deductions and loopholes."
Well then Governor, given that you've spent your entire campaign saying the wealthy need tax breaks in order to create jobs, would you describe your current claim as dishonest or irresponsible?
Oh yeah. And if you reduce taxes, then eliminate loopholes to make the whole exercise 'revenue neutral', what's the point? Under which cup is the pea, really?
WHOA.
How can one party (no matter which one it is) have the report taken down without the other party not only knowing about it, but preventing it?
The authentic Banana Republic, TRMS (msnbc banana's comes in bunches see show hosts) are in a psycho panic with recent poll revelations.
One need only look to the Benghazi Failure of this administration to be able to define a "Banana Republic". Equals, The Obama Administration.
Swing and a miss
If all you have is regurgitated "Benghazi is Watergate" nonsense then you need to go back to the bench and sit down
wait for the investigation to conclude before making accusations.
BTW who was in charge that other 911? Aren't they now Romney advisers?
Not so fast my friend as Lee Corso would say. The final call has not been made. The umpires have your "bad call" under review. And a reversal is all but guaranteed. The latest instant replays are baring great evidence that this one is yet to be determined. I will stand right here in the batters box Thank You. Until you & yours are proven seriously wrong. That determination WILL come.
This one is in fact a "Walk Off Home Run" waiting to happen. You'll see. This is NOT Watergate, It's far far worse. I watched Watergate and that was nothing by comparison.
This is just the same as Mickey Rivers handing a new bat to Bucky Dent at Fenway in 1978. You just watch!
There isn't a Benghazi scandal. Republicans refuse to allow themselves to understand that 2 different things can be going on at the same time. The irony, as I've point out so many damn times, is that the defense being used by this administration is the exact same defense that was used by the Bush Administration and that continues to be used by that administration's defenders. The current administration was operating on the information it had at the time which was that the consulate had been attacked but that no one knew whether or not it was a premeditated attack or a spontaneous attack that resulted from the protests that took place there. Absolutely no information has been released that contradicts this narrative and until/unless such information does become available it is absolutely hypocritical and naive of people to be jumping to conclusions of guilt.
Mccan't still says there is an administration cover up...Amazing how he can't say the Bush administration maybe should be held accountable for a war in Iraq that should have never taken place and to this day I'm sure in Cheney and W's mind it was still something they needed to do because of WMDs...that still have never been found. Why don't Mccan't worry about that??? and do something about that?? or worry about the 70+ people who have died here in our country because of this storm?? I'm sorry those 4 lives were lost in Libya, but this is now, stop looking for reasons to hate someone and take care of us here at home. Nasty man
Sorry slugger your DH looks more like Eddie Gaedel than Bucky Dent and even that stunt won't let your runner steal home.
It's the bottom of the 9th and we're up by three the best you can hope for is that this thing gets lost in the ivy for a while.
Bucky Dent was a Short Stop batting ninth for the 78 Yankees, the Yankees were down 2-0 and it was NOT the 9th inning. Reggie hit the Home Run in the ninth that sealed the win at 5-4. You are way ahead of yourself. This is not concluded by November 6th. The real story comes long after just as Watergate did. Remember, Nixon won the election by a landslide, 49 states to ONE for McGovern. This one is a long long way from over.
Um, and there is no ivy at Fenway OR Yankee Stadium. BTW in Julty 1978 the Yankees were down 14 1/2 games. It aint over til it' over. As for the bottom of the ninth and you are up by 3 runs. bases are loaded , up walks Bernie Williams and we all know what happens next. As John Sterling called it, "Deep to right field, waaaaaaay back, Grand Slam Home Run Bernie Williams!" "Inning over, Ball Game over, Thaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yankees WIN!" "Burn Bernie Burn"
Let me guess, RGIII throws that late game TD two weeks ago and think to yourself, that's it Redskins will beat the NY Giants, it's over. WRONG. 1;13 left and WE have ELI the Elite! You just watch what happens.
The crowd echoes ............Crrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
I agree with IrishPat7 and while the rest of you are sitting sucking your thumbs ... after the election ... the truth will come out. This Administration FAILED MISERABLY to protect those people ... who started almost a MONTH in advance to alert the Administration to the dangers ahead ... and what happens ... they pull OUT some security. With politics there are a lot of lies and B.S. passed around on BOTH SIDES ... but when you are ALLOWING people to be killed and then try to say it was because of a damned video ... you people are NUTS. If it had been YOUR relative who was slaughtered ... you might not be so complacent about this whole mess.
Meh
.
You are absolutely right! This describes what happened 9/11 with 3000 people killed on Bush's watch.
And this is your first post. Whomever you are, you just created your account today. You very well could be the drunk irish guy with another sock.
Just sayin.
Will you stop with the Benghazi nonsense already...it has been thoroughly debunked with the facts and your nonsense is based entirely on gossip and inuendo. Give it up already...it's petty and really just makes you look desperately ridiculous.
Troll strategy #1: try to distract from the issue on the table. Troll strategy #2: repeat the same nonsense over and over. Benghazi is still brand new by this standard (some are still squealing about birth certificates and college records. Probably shouldn't even point that out).
GOP rule #1
If the facts don't fit - they don't exist.
let's make up our own and if we say it loud enough and often enough we can continue to perpetrate the fraud we are.
As long as they hide it no one will know that what they are saying is a lie...they are idiots.
Obama Jobs Council Member Endorses Romney

Paul
Otellini, Intel’s chief executive officer and a member of President Barack
Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, is the newest high-profile business
leader to announce his support for Mitt Romney, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Otellini, who also serves
on the board of directors of Google Inc., joined the president’s jobs council in
2011 after he had criticized the administration for being too slow to create
jobs. Obama formed the council in January 2011, as he sought to repair his
damaged relationship with the business sector and to show his commitment to
address the country’s unemployment epidemic. General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt
heads the group.
The Council on Jobs and Competitiveness hasn’t held an
official meeting since Jan. 17 despite continued weakness in the labor
market
Other business leaders who are backing Romney include Charles
Schwab, Cisco Chief Executive John Chambers, and Bernie Marcus, the co-founder
of Home Depot. Romney will campaign with the business leaders.
The
Otellini endorsement comes as Romney makes his business experience, and Obama’s
lack of it, front and center on the campaign trail on Thursday. The GOP nominee
jumped on Obama’s support for a “secretary of business” with a new campaign ad
and referenced it throughout speeches.
“I don’t think adding a new chair
in his Cabinet will help add millions of jobs on Main Street,” Romney told a
crowd in Roanoke, Virginia. “We don’t need a secretary of business to understand
business. We need a president who understands
business.”
Mark as no value for spamming the thread
Yeah, well NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Republican, now Independent, just endorsed Obama, as has, tacitly, Chris Christie.
what was it that lenin said about history?
Republicans can't handle the truth...or just about anything else unless they turn Blue Dog Democrat.
The decent Repubs have left the building. What's left is . . . a flock of traitors, corporatists, losers . . .
'Apparently, in Republicans' minds, to say "Bush tax cuts" is to use an inappropriate "tone.'
This from the party whose leaders and candidates routinely use phrases such as "The Democrat Party" and "Obamacare."
That's why they call them Banana Republicans.
It's frightening that the Other Side can torpedo a professional government report just because they want to. It's one thing to try to silence James Hansen re climate science (once their attempted censorship was revealed, it became pointless), but soon they'll be trying to cut off certain Social Security payments because their recipients don't vote the "right" (literally) way.
Good-bye, republic.
Right wingers change the rules to suit their agenda. Here in the UK we have a system were if 100,000 people sign a government petition, it triggers a parliamentary debate.
So, when our glorious conservative leaders decided to wreck our National Health Service, a petition was drawn up to stop them. It reached 160,000 signatures, and the government decided to dismiss it out of hand as it wasn't what they wanted to hear.
Why did the GOP get to take this down? Don't the Dems. control the Senate? Why is that hillbilly McConnell calling all the shots about which reports gets distributed?
Never has the expression "I deny your reality and substitute my own" been more applicable.
hmm, banana republic...
you know, ever since the show began reporting on the elimination of democracy in Michigan, I have been noticing that US politics is starting to look more and more like S. America in the 20th century. well, more blatantly so...
NDAA, parasite oligarchy... and now, a classic puppet presidential candidate.
looks like all the U.S interference in S.American politics was just the dress rehearsal...
I keep saying they live in a fantasy world and if they win, we all will be suffering for their all American dream..will come crashing down on us all.
