This is a pretty amazing story!
Thank you Vasili Arkhipov, the man who stopped nuclear war
Fifty years ago, Arkhipov, a senior officer on the Soviet B-59 submarine, refused permission to launch its nuclear torpedo
And all these years, I've been telling my students I saved the world, back when the Doomsday Clock was at one minute to midnight! (There we were, just minutes from global-thermal nuclear annihilation. Then I was born, the two world leaders backed down, and viola! I saved the world. It turns out my version of events *may* be apocryphal!)
Can't remember if it was the during the amazing Ms Maddow's or the Esteemed Mr O'Donnell's broadcast, but I remember hearing the mention of House Republican's plans to tantrum the Debt Celling vote coming up in a couple of months.
Every house republican is a sucking chest wound in our nations fiscal and regulatory policy.
Will you vote for a sucking chest wound?
If you don't like the Democrat running in your district, vote for a green, or libertarian, or since its what The Rev. says its about anyway, write in yo mamma. You don't call her enough anyway. Don't give your vote to a sucking chest wound.
Sucking chest wound is an offensive and vivid enough phrase that the right might get offended enough to gripe about it, causing them to use the phrase on their air.
Imagine Rush saying "Sucking chest wound," three times fast. Pls forward this to Mr. Hayes, and Dr. Harris-Perry, both deserving of superlative adjectives in their own right. They're up first. I promise in return I will buy and read all the latest books of the regular hosts at MSNBC.
Obama surges when he's a little behind in something. Besides The House, what's left that his is behind in?
Thanks again.
GOP U.S. Congressional Representative = Sucking Chest Wound
Please. Most people have no idea what a sucking chest wound is. That's not going to fly. Neither will those marvelous job numbers being touted here...
171,000 new jobs, very good.
367,250 new unemployment claims, very bad.
Net job loss, -196,250, typical Obama reality.

Lies, Distortions, and Delusions:
The lying and dishonesty is not equal on both sides. In 2004, when the Annual U.S Federal Government Report on Terrorism came out and said that the state of terrorism was worse than before 911 and worse than at any time since the report started, the Bush Administration responded to their F on National Security by ceasing to publish the U.S. eliminates Annual Terrorism report in future years.
In 2005, when the Department of Education reported in its annual report that Charter School students were falling behind Public Schools students, the Bush Administration which had backed the Charter School Movement with vouchers announced that the U.S. was cutting back on details in data About Charter Schools.
When the leading economic indicators and the Tax Policy Center, a bipartisan entity, reported back in 2006 that some current policies of Congress and the Administration, all GOP controlled at the time, that government policies would result in the loss of jobs on a massive scale, the Administration and GOP Congress changed the way the LEIs are reported and eliminated an annual DOL report on the effects of Administration and Congressional Policy on Employment Statistics. When during the Bush years, it was found that Republican policies might cause future mass layoffs, the headline the next week was: U.S. Drops Report On Mass Layoffs; Data Helped States Track Patterns of Industrial Demise.
Recently, the Congressional Research Service that researches and investigates whatever issue a Representative or Senator asks and reports on it to Congress issued a requested report that provided evidence and research strengthening the argument and idea that Supply Side - Trickle Down Economics does not work and that cutting taxes on the wealthy does not create jobs. Since this negates everything that Mitt Romney and the GOP have been saying for the last year (and has been GOP philosophy since Reagan), it is an inconvenient problem to say the least. The GOP response to this factual report from Congress has been to attack and suppress the report until, the Nonpartisan Tax Report was withdrawn After G.O.P. Protest.
This is not something that both sides do equally. However, it has been the policy of the Right starting with Reagan and Bush (George H. W. Bush) when they tried to suppress the inquiry into Iran Contra in 1986. Actually it goes all the way back to Nixon and the Pentagon Papers that Dr. Daniel Ellsberg of The Rand Corporation published. The Democratic Party does not equally engage in this. There is no Noise channel on the left that competes with Fox. Fox is majority owned and controlled by Roger Ailes. He decides what goes on there, not some CEO or some Board. They answer to him. So please, let's stop with this childish Conservative crap that both sides equally lie, spin, or distort because they don't. As a teacher of History and English, I find it abhorrent that the right does it. It makes me sick that they do it, and it makes me even sicker when they and their followers equivocate by saying both sides do it. Both sides don't do it, and they don't both do it equally. The Right thinks it's part of politics (as do many in the center, which is why they put up with it). We Liberals however, find such misrepresentation of the English language, the facts, truth, and History to be repugnant, and that's why we don't engage in such behavior.
Fox is majority owned and controlled by Roger Ailes
Gawd............How dumb can anyone be????????????????
Do a little homework.....Sonny!!!
LOL You're a teacher????? Really?????
Well, Walt, I guess that means you agree with everything else Teacher Kurt said, because you just picked on the tiniest of details whine about, so why are you snarling at him?
We don't know how much of Fox Entertainment Roger Ailes owns but since he was brought on to CEO Fox News in 1996, we can assume he owns a lot!
The only part of the alleged teacher's post I read was about Ailes.
Fox is owned by News Corp. News Corp is a publicly traded corporation. I just checked out all the 1% or more owners of NWSA and Ailes isn't on the list. Looks like the alleged teacher is making up liberal style facts.
What I find to be most amusing is that NWSA is an S&P 500 stock. (Do I have to explain what that means.) Even though planning for one's financial future is a no no for liberals, there are some here that have 401k plans that have an S&P 500 component.
In other words a lot of Fox haters are investors in Fox Noise.................lol.
NWSA is about $24 a share...two years ago it was $13.
Congrats to liberal investors! Even though you're hypocrites, you're cleaning up. It's the American way!!!!!!!!!!!
Here we go again with that good old GOP tactic of spinning and twisting to prove that both sides are equally guilty except he assumes that liberals have investments in stock based on his own holdings. Funny how that is always their excuse I do it so everyone else must do as I do because I can't comprehend anyone being any different then myself. Then he tries to say they are hypocrites only ignores how 401k's work. So without knowing the type of 401 liberals have, he assumes they are individual 401's but if a 401k is set up by your employer he decides where your investment goes not you unless your employer allows you to make your own choices.
http://budgeting.thenest.com/can-choose-individual-stocks-401k-21787.html
whom
I enjoyed reading your post. Thanks for the reply.
You don't own a 401k do you? If you did you wouldn't have said what you said.
Do yourself a favor. Either enroll in your employer's 401k or find an employer that has one.
Oh, that lovely teachers Union mentality.......
Nope I was lucky enough to have escaped that GOP nonsense and got out of the game before the country went insane enough to put their future into the hands of Wall street. 401k's are the biggest prank sold to American workers by CEO's trying to free up more profits for themselves by killing pensions. Dream on if you believe that your 401k is going to ensure you wealth in your old age, it won't. Ask anyone who wanted to retire or retired right before the stock market crash of 07.
prank sold to American workers by CEO's trying to free up more profits for themselves
lol
The company I worked for gave me 60 cents for every dollar I put in. I did that for 30 years. I averaged 8% per year compounded.....well you do the math?
What don't you seem to get? Internet brags are a joke. Funny how everyone and their brother got hit hard by the 08 stock market crash except for you righties. That you believe you are better off then you really are is just typical tea bagged republican delusions. Now you make claims you have no way to prove, like your word on a left leaning blog just shows how delusional you are, here is a hint if a republican voter opens his mouth the lies come pouring out they just can't help but lie because to be honest would mean having to live in reality.
LMAO
The Dow Jones was 6,500 in 2008....it's 13,000 today.........what hit are you talking about???
I guess I was right....you never owned a 401k......what a shame!!!
Walt...your mistake was in assuming that Whom ever had a job, much less a 401(k). he is a poster chid for the left. Sits at home in his mommy and daddy's basement playing on the computer all day. The only investment he has made is when he goes to the local convenience store and spends his monthly welfare checks on lottery tickets hoping that he can hit the Mega Millions. Investment would take commitment, sacrifice and work. Whom has never learned what those words mean.
just saying...
I kinda figured it was something like that, besides liberals are absolutely positive that the gumint and preznit will fund their retirement. We all know China can't wait to send us money forever.
Seriously, it's amazing to me that these people hate business people and rich people even though it's the tax money from the rich that support them.
If some rich dude was keeping me alive I'd say thanks.
Those seeking power for power's sake have been around since the beginning of civilization. Some seek power to institute changes toward fairness and peace. Others only seek the hammer to pound down dissent. Czars, emperors, popes, and dictators have all been equally guilty at times. Benevolent rulers and governments have grown in places, but the power-hungry are always waiting in the wings, for the population to become complacent. We are at a turning point in our grand experiment as a nation. Money for the sake of power and more money are at the root of this threat. In the words of one modern icon, "Wake the F_CK Up", before it is too late.
I don't have the exact quote but Ms. Maddow said tonight during the opening that she (TRMS) attempts to provide fair coverage yet then in a later segment says Florida early voting was cut "in half." (Of course that was after she earlier said "almost half.")
Then her guest slips up and gives voting hours, that voting was cut from 120 hours in 2008 to 96 hours in 2012. But, no one said that 96 hours of voting was scheduled in 2008 but Crist expanded it 2 additional hours over several days.
Here's the "fair" information:
1. 96 hours of early voting was scheduled in 2008 and 2012.
2. 2008 that 96 hours was spread over 14 days, more days/fewer hours each day.
3. 2012 that 96 hours is spread over 8 days, fewer days/longer hours each day.
4. As of now, no additional hours have been provided as in 2008.
Why is a report on Charter Schools from 2004 news?
Because of the ongoing agenda to take public education funds and give it to private, for-profit schools.
Because of the ongoing agenda to take public education funds and give it to private, for-profit schools.
And those private schools can make the public funds disappear because once the moneys paid to the private school the Govt cant trace it. Something about private business books not being open to Government inspection.
Least thats what I heard in a report on $2,000,000 that went missing in Akron's privatized schools. Can't trace the missing money because the books aren't open to us even though it's our money.
Other reasons for bringing up the '04 report are:
1) Republican President, House and Senate. Righties can't hardly blame Democrats for influencing the report (or blame Obama) which shows their plan pooched.
2) Provides a historical context for the failure of the plan.
3) Demonstrates how the Republican continues pushing a plan that is historically a failure.
and
4) How hell or high water the Republican pushes to privatize everything in spite of the evidence that not all privatization is superior or even functional.
.
In an effort to leave no lie untold, Gingrich sent out an email yesterday suggesting that the president would refuse to leave office in 2016:
"An email message mistakenly sent to Newt Gingrich's newsletter list serve Thursday morning told subscribers that President Obama would no doubt win in 2012 and that they should be more worried about Obama's winning in 2016.
That's right, despite the 22nd Amendment, which limits any one person to two presidential terms, the email that went out to Gingrich's readers suggests President Obama would be running again in 2016, and possibly serve through 2020."

I am finally winning arguments with my GOP friends.
We have a Business-man Mayor in NY. When things are good, he is good; when things are bad, he applies the same business priniples to the problem.
I.e.:Ntes/Knicks; NY Marathon; "we are OK" when offered help; backing Obama (good) at the last minute to hedge his bets.
All of these were financially motivated decisions; conscience only kicked in after pressure. We would have gotten the samething had he been President, but on a National level. Romney would act the same way.
Please work this into your show, it works for me.
What is the best way to have the RMS look into and possibly report on an issue? I sent a couple of messages to the RMS facebook page but haven't gotten a response.
It's in regards to the massive hacking debacle down here in South Carolina while under the leadership of one of the TeaParty's finest, the botox queen herself, Nikki Haley. 3.6million social security numbers, 600k+ business tax returns and 600k+ credit card and bank account numbers that were all unencrypted were taken from the Dept of Revenue and it has been a political theater ever since.
What do the people of Massachusetts and Wisconsin know that the rest of the country doesn't?
Romney is trailing in Massachusetts by 15%.
Romney is trailing in Paul Ryan's state by 7%.
The people of these states know these candidates better than the rest of the country and they don't want them to lead this country.
It is past time to tax churches just like any other business. They are in the god as they see him business and profiting off of their followers.
Found this:
http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/11/03/1134981/last-minute-ohio-directive-could-trash-legal-votes-and-swing-the-election/
Looks like the Rethuglican Sec of State in Ohio is doing his damnedest to steal the election for Romney.
Found an Obama ad on a gay hookup site.... grindr...pretty freaking sad when you have to put your campaign on sex sites
And a rightie comes out of the closet. It's bad that Obama has ads on a gay hookup site but you went there to find the ads and not gay guys, right we believe you wink wink nudge nudge. Guess what that really means, robme doesn't have the gay vote or else he would be putting ads on gay sits.
The sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar.
It is a shame that the link above provided by TRMS is deliberately trying to mislead anyone who just reads the headlines. I understand that this blog is a leftist propaganda site, but to put in old headlines in an attempt to sway anyone who is reading it is really low. The link saying that unemployment is at 7.8%...a 44 month low is from LAST MONTH. It is extremely unprofessional for this website to use that link on the same weekend that the NEW unemployment figure comes out and shows that the figure when back UP to 7.9%...which is a higher figure that when Obama took office in 1/09.
Apparently this site knows that Obama can not win if the truth is told...
just saying....
Someone sent me a link to a site that shows Romney totally looks like MetroMan from the animated movie MegaMind. I paged through it for a while because it was amusing, then found a pic showing that Romney's campaign logo looks almost exactly like the Romika Shoes logo. Did the Romney campaign pay Romika for its use???
One can almost hear Romney say, "Well, if it looks good, let's use it. My lawyers are bigger than their lawyers."
Romney/Romika pic: http://cheezburger.com/6663392256
Metroman pic: http://cheezburger.com/6660008448 or http://roflrazzi.cheezburger.com/totallylookslike/tag/mitt-romney
P.S. Righties, that's not "all I've got" against Romney, but it does speak very loudly of the three-point character of his campaign: Lie, cheat, steal...
