We talked on Thursday about a Spanish-language Romney/Ryan campaign ad, which is in heavy rotation in South Florida, trying to connect President Obama to Castro, Chavez, and even Che. The Obama campaign is taking the smear seriously enough to release an interesting counter-ad.
In this spot, viewers see one of South Florida's least-partisan politicians, former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz (I), explain in Spanish, "Have you seen the latest Mitt Romney ad exploiting the suffering of our people? We're tired of the same old, same old. President Obama doesn't want to mislead us with demagoguery. He's looking for the same thing we want."
The ad then shows Obama, speaking in English above Spanish subtitles, saying, "We'll continue to seek ways to increase the independence of the Cuban people, who I believe are entitled to the same freedom and liberty as everyone else."
Diaz concludes, in Spanish, "[H[e'll continue working seriously, with us, for a free and democratic Cuba. Of that, there is no doubt."
The Miami Herald believes the ad itself is something of a breakthrough moment in American campaigning: "[T]his might be a presidential-campaign first: a Spanish-language pushback against another Spanish-language ad."

I never thought I'd see a band of low-lifes worse than Bush/Cheney, but Romney's group is right there with 'em. It's no surprise they're hooked up with Romney.
Many of them have been garnered from the Bush administration........ so; not so surprising
I wonder how many journalists actually know that Senator Prescot Bush, father of George H.W. Bush and grandfather of George W. Bush and Jeb Bush, was involved in plotting a military takeover of the United States in 1934, in conjunction with the richest Republican Plutocrats in the USA and with the help of Nazi Germany. That is the real Republican Patriotism, plotting to overthrow the duly elected government of the US because their taxes are too high. http://www.laprogressive.com/plutocrats-stealing-our-government/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+laprogressive+%28The+LA+Progressive%29&utm_content=FaceBook#sthash.EbQXUXig.dpbs …
A lot of rich and powerful people want to keep this history buried. It's history that everyone hould know.
FWIW, at least Sen. Prescott Bush suffered some real consequences of his misconduct (while, naturally, the rest of his wealthy co-conspirators scampered off unscathed). He was indicted under the Trading with the Enemy Act in 1942, and the assets of an investment bank of which he served as one of the directors (Union Banking Corporation) were seized. It was from the bank's "books" that much of the details of the conspiracy you reference were unraveled.
Maybe the most sobering aspect of this is that, despite all of this, in the context of Sen. Bush's later career, he was probably still less of a douche than his descendants. He was an advocate for birth control, Planned Parenthood, the UNCF, helped pass the legislation establishing the Interstate Highway system, civil rights and the Peace Corps. And, in a timely note, he also authored the "Bush Hurricane Survey Act" as part of his advocacy for flood and hurricane protection.
On balance, I don't think any/all of the above "makes up" for participating in a conspiracy to achieve the military overthrow of our democratically elected government in the interest of imposing a fascist dictatorship. I just think it's interesting that he could be a part of such a conspiracy, and still be less of a douche than his descendants, both familial and ideological.

Actually, Preston Bush wasn't indicted under the Trading With The Enemy Act. Knowing that was likely following the 1942 elections, he short-circuited it by purchasing the Republican nomination for Senator from Connecticut, and then purchased the election.
I've always had a certain respect for his son, George H.W. Bush, who volunteered for the Navy and became the Navy's youngest Naval Aviator to see combat, as a way of atoning for his father.
Preston not only participated in the 1934 coup attempt, he was one of the financiers of the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany, for which he was richly rewarded by Hitler with interests in German companies, which he would not give up after the declaration of war, which is why he was under threat with the Trading With The Enemy Act. He may have supported Planned Parenthood (probably for reasons of eugenics), but he was that generation's proof that "the only 'Good Republicans' are pushing up daisies," as my great-grand-uncle used to say from his years opposing them and working for Harry Truman.
does it end 'soy barack obama y aprovo este mensaje? that's what i heard, but my cuban spanish comprehension is pretty weak. sounded like the same voice as the rest of the ad

I totally agree with Manny Diaz. It is surprising to see a lot of Cubans still supporting Romney.
