President Obama talked to Ohioans on Friday about Republican opposition to Bill Clinton's economic agenda in the early 1990s. When Obama noted that "a Senate candidate by the name of Mitt Romney" was among those who said Clinton was wrong, the audience started to boo. The president's response seems to have made the right very excited.
For those who can't watch clips online, the president said, "No, don't boo; vote. Vote. Voting is the best revenge."
Almost immediately, Republican blogs erupted with condemnations of the off-hand remark, and yesterday, Mitt Romney and his aides got excited about it, too.
The Republican candidate, for example, delivered three speeches yesterday, and complained about Obama's "revenge" comment at each event. Paul Ryan also pretended to be outraged over this. By mid-day, his campaign had put together a video suggesting Obama is somehow unpatriotic -- Romney believes people should vote out of "love of country," unlike the incumbent.
The entire line of attack seems rather sad -- it's more forced than sincere -- but the larger takeaway is that the Romney campaign has spent months chasing after every shiny object that catches their eye.
This campaign is going to be about "the private sector is doing fine"! Wait, scratch that, it's going to be about "you didn't build that"! Oh, actually, on second thought, it's going to be about the "redistribution" quote from 1998! Hold on, now it's going to be about "you can't change Washington from the inside"! On second thought, it's going to be about "not optimal"! No, wait, it's going to be about characterizing developments in the Middle East as "bumps in the road"!
This is precisely why I've compared Team Romney to small children playing soccer, running wildly to wherever they see a bouncing ball, whether it's strategically wise or not. There's certainly nothing wrong with a campaign taking advantage of new opportunities, but haphazardly shifting from one out-of-context sound bite to another is evidence of an unfocused candidate in search of an effective message.

Mark Twain has been credited for saying...."“It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.”
It is sad, but so very true. Anyone who tries to bring light to erroneous information (regardless of where it came from..or who's side so to speak) is blasted, called names, discredited as just trying to defend someone or something they like.
What scares me , is that undeniable, proven facts are discarded and in there place comes opinions, spins, outrageous personal attacks, taking information out of context to try to make a point in an effort to take away the focus of the real issues. (All are guilty of this including politics, religion, business, personal relations)
The problem (my opinion) is Congress making a decision to put their agenda above the interests of the United States and the damage that has caused and continues to cause. There seems to be no consequence for not doing their jobs. I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I guarentee if I refused to work with other co-wokers simply cause I didn't like the or didn't want them to suceed and not try to achieve results for the best intertests of the company. I would not have a job!!!!!
why can't all politicians have term limits? they should step down by the time they turn 70 yrs old. I also think from now on before running for any office they should submit their birth certificate (u.s.), college transcripts and at least five years of tax returns so the bickering over them can be dispensed with and we can listen to what they plan to do. The things that were said and done during this presidential campaign was horrendous and those govenors who tried to block the voting should not be reelected.
Why not cut the trees and bushes by the border down so those trying to cross can be seen and stopped easier by the border patrol? The military brought back from the war is being paid anyway so why not put them at the border to help?
Instead of always focusing on stopping women from having abortions why don't scientists focus on some kind of birth control for men other than condoms and getting cut?
Just Vote.
Voting is more important than who wins.
I want to know why the state officials who have steadily tried to suppress the vote are not in jail! Their actions have been reprehensible!!! In my own state, new rules for obtaining a photo ID or driver's license went into effect on 7/1.
Five years ago, I renewed my driver's license by handing the officer at the DMV my expired driver's license, she punched in my SS number, and all my info flashed on the screen. Everything was unchanged, so I paid my fee, and walked out of there with a brand new, shiny, laminated photo ID/license.
In July, I realized my driver's license needed to be renewed. HOLY COW, I couldn't get a permanent license because I did not have the following documents: a utility bill with my name on it (we have lived in the same house since 1982!!), my social security card, and/or passport. I had my valid passport which will gain me access to any country in the world, but I cant get a GA driver's license. Preposterous!! They issued me a temporary, paper photo ID which is good for 120 days. I have to get all that crap together and go back out there to get my plastic laminated license. What a pain.
If you don't have a photo ID in GA, you don't get to vote, period!
Take your passport with and vote. That is a photo ID. If you have your old license, take it. Take all that stuff with you, including your temporary paper. Don;t let this discourage you from voting!
President Barack Obama added a little barb to the end of a trademark refrain on Friday, telling voters that they could get "revenge" on GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney by voting next week.
Speaking in Springfield, at one of three Ohio events, Obama began telling a story about a younger Romney, then a Massachusetts Senate candidate, who had campaigned against former President Bill Clinton's economic platform in the 1990s. As soon as the president mentioned Romney's name, the crowd began to boo.
