Worth reporting: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/04/1155381/-Breaking-Romney-Paid-Zero-Taxes-From-1996-To-2009
Give it up on Romney's taxes.
If he did anything illegal, the IRS would have been all over him. Your beef is with the tax regs, not individuals who take advantage of them. There is nothing unethical about following the law.
Ah the good old I was only doing what was legal defense. Really got to love the spin. Its an unethical law but just because the law is unethical doesn't mean using the law is unethical.
I'm still surprised that there was not more coverage of this story when Bloomberg broke it. I suppose that the focus on hurricane Sandy would explain it best. Sure, it was legal but it says a whole lot about the candidate. If it was not illegal, why did Romney not simply report it? My beef is about more than simply tax regs.
Please please help these people, I am sure they would accept ANYTHING we coulod get to them......
Pasco- there are a good number of places you can donate to.
Pasco It's a shame it takes a hurricane for us to find things we can agree on but I will take what I can get lol
well said
I will be first to say that Dragoon. We can have our fun and arguing amongst ourselves, but when our backs are to the wall we all SHINE.It shows we are one. THIS is who we really are. We are Americans. We need to Unite, to find the best way to get things there, or to get the most out of the dollas with no pull off for administrative funds taken by the people who collect these monies . All the other stuff is drivel. Meangless conversation to get a point across.
Right on, Pasco!!!
Twasn't a hurricane. Government classified it as a storm
How about a story on Oregon's vote-by-mail system? I voted last week! There is no evidence of fraud. There are no lines for voting booths. The Oregon Secretary of State, the Legislature, and both political parties, support it. Why isn't it used nationally?? It is not rocket science.
My comment is for Rachel Maddow. I love your show. But, you are doing something racist. President Obama is his name from the day he was sworn in until the day he dies. Calling him Mr. Obama is disrespectful and looks like you are unwilling to give him the respect he has earned.
I know you don't feel that way, so WHY to you do it?
Peggy in Florida
Some people never give up on the racist argument. Take a deep breath and worry about other things than what we call the Pres. Like the economy, debt, deficit, etc.
Right another words ignore the GOP racist dog whistles and pretend everything is alright with the world because human rights don't matter.
Actually this has been a long standing precedent in modern history. This started (at least as is my recollection) wayyyy back with Bush Sr. versus Clinton. Ever since then we've stopped insisting on saying "President Bush Sr." or "President Clinton" at every turn.
Bush Jr. was referred to as just Bush by liberal pundits including Maddow. Quite honestly it'd be pretty hypocritical of her if she were calling Obama President Obama considering how often she failed to refer to Bush as President Bush. I don't think race plays a factor in her decision to say Obama instead of President Obama.
It may in fact have the effect of demeaning the office of the presidency and there may be a racial element to that, that gets picked up on- I'm not necessarily denying the claim you're making- I'm just clarifying that perhaps the motivation isn't as sinister as I think you might be thinking it is.
Given the history of our politicians I think calling him Mister rather than President is in fact a very sincere show of respect!
Dear Peggy, there is no disrespect in saying 'Mr. Obama'. In fact, quite the opposite. The US of A was born in opposition to the idea of 'Divine Right', royalty who governed because they were born wealthy. As a nation, Americans are proud that our leader is a mr. or ms. with no haughty pretensions of rank or entitlement granted by birth.
Unlike Mr. Mourdock and company, the drafters of the Declaration of Independence believed their Creator granted people free will, the ability to choose.
Amazing! 7 days out from monster storm Sandy and the schools are reopening, the gas lines are growing shorter, displaced people are housed by the government in rented apartments and hotel rooms, the trains are running again! 7, yes, 7 days after Sandy!
What were the victims of Katrina doing 7 days out and are doing now, 7 YEARS out....
Katrina was unprecedented. It was a learning experience. Because of Katrina, we know how to better handle these situations. If this didn't go better than Katrina, we would have learned nothing. Of course things are better this time around.
There is a heckuva difference between a class 5 hurricane and a storm that was below the level of a hurricane. It's awful, what Sandy did, but to try to score political points like Jimes is doing is just as bad.
The sad thing is, there's another tragedy down the road. It's like oldies radio: the hits just keep on comin'.
the link didn't work. Why am I the only one who tried it before commenting about Mitt's taxes OFF TOPIC???
As a Southerner may I say-"welcome to my world".
WARNING:Beware the gypsy with a hammer or chain saw that offers to work on your home or yard. They flock to disaster hoping to make a mint off of your misfortune and your insurance. They leave behind unfinished work and cause more damage than good.
Another threat is price gouging.Ice sold from the back of trucks for five times what it should cost, chainsaws and generators doubling in price and do not buy anything like that from some crook selling out of his semi because you might be getting used and even broken junk.
Make sure the gas station you go to was not flooded-unless you do not mind water in your tank.
It will amaze you as to how low some people will go for a quick buck. It will also surprise you to see that even people you least expected to help will do just that as your community comes together like never before.
Good luck and do not let this sway you from voting.
