Gallup suspended its daily tracking poll after Hurricane Sandy slammed the East coast, but the pollster published one last set of results yesterday, wrapping up the 2012 campaign season. Gallup found President Obama with a three-point lead among registered voters, and Mitt Romney with a one-point lead among likely voters.
But also of interest was the president's approval rating: Gallup found that a 52% majority now approve of how Obama is doing his job. The final Washington Post/ABC News poll showed a similar result, with Obama scoring a 51% approval rating, tied for its highest point since the president ordered the strike on Osama bin Laden.
And why does this matter? Because there's no modern precedent for Americans defeating an incumbent president with an approval rating this high. Nearly two years ago, Nate Silver did some analysis in this area and made some observations that seem especially noteworthy now.
At first glance, the relationship seems nearly perfect: every incumbent with an approval rating of 49 percent or higher won re-election, while every candidate with a rating of 48 percent or lower lost.
George H.W. Bush, the last incumbent to lose a re-election bid, had an approval rating below 40% on Election Day. The last Gallup poll in the fall of 1980 showed Jimmy Carter's rating at 37%.
Silver concluded way back in January 2011, "What we can say is important is the range in which Mr. Obama's approval ratings have been varying in recent months: between about 45 and about 50 percent. If Mr. Obama's approval rating is at the top of that range, 50 percent, on Nov. 6, 2012 — about where it is now — the model figures that his chances of winning re-election will be greater than 80 percent. But if his approval rating is at the bottom of the range instead, at 45 percent, his chances for a second term will be only about one in three, and he'll have to hope that the Republican nominee is a weak one."
All of the recent nationwide polling puts Obama's rating between 49% and 52%. That doesn't make him a lock for re-election, but if he comes up short, he'll be the most popular president to lose since the dawn of modern polling.

What I am having trouble with isn't his popularity it's the whole "Mandate" argument.
If it's as close as a lot of pundits are guessing it could be the Republicans insist that he will not have a "Mandate" but by that same logic neither will Romney...
Then again Republicans haven't been known to support logic (or reality for that matter) lately
Lately? I don't think the Republicans have supported logic since Shrub was in office.
A mandate doesn't matter. Mr. Obama has arranged things so that the important stuff happens by Presidential decree.
And what would you do if you were President and had a House full of horse's asses who tried to block evey single thing you do? Important stuff still needs to get done, even when certain people don't want to do their jobs.
Good morning Shooter Hope your well today
If you are trying to make a case against an "Imperial Presidency" then I don't think you have very good grounds to stand on for two reasons.
First obviously the Bush administration was way more "Imperial" than This one using executive signing statements to do and not do all kinds of things.
Second if it were true of this administration don't you think he would have done it with the Jobs bill or the Debt ceiling business? there is just no genuine evidence to say that he is demonstrably worse than any other modern President.
Good ole boys and girls are like barn sour horses, expensive, untrainable, only respond to the one that feeds them and to be real only lazy rich ppl have them for what ever reason I have no idea. So what to to? Vote them out. It is not like they are govt workers that take an act of congress to get rid of. Take out the trash kiddies.
Logic.
I monitor hate radio, and just an hour ago I was listening to one nationally syndicated feed with a network spot advertising for advertisers. Among the dubious list of advantages listed was:
I would think that a businessman deciding where to spent his meager advertising dollars is going to think with his head rather than his politics. This is a station that has Michael Savage, Doyle, Rusty Humphries, and Laura Ingraham. Is a tough nosed businessman capable of understanding that the big audience appeal, and a matter of great pride of these hosts is that they are not afraid of being controversial?
Apparently, this radio station believes that these small business owners are as incapable of discerning self evident facts as Romney believes that Ohio voters are.
This election will partly hinge on whether reality matters or whether the determinative factor is whether a campaign has a sufficiently large ad budget to repeat their message often enough that a majority of voters believe it.
John
That's not Logic but Psychology especially if that small businessman is listening to that station himself. Remember that the people you named are controversial to you not their fans. Most people see themselves as reasonable and rational and that their ideas are usually more popular than they really are. We all do it. So the idea of a "noncontroversial venue" to them may well be what they are listening to.
Think about the bumper stickers you see that say "Don't believe the Liberal Media" I don't know about anywhere else but they are big around here. The idea that their is this enormous conspiracy among all news agencies and they may view that station as outside of that conspiracy. Psychologically it's perfectly understandable even though it might well not be "Logical"
IMO we turned some kind of corner John , romney ryan were busted out right lying many times , their voters do not care that they are smudging facts , to me this solidifies that it is just flat out US AGAINST THEM , there is little or no other way to interpret this , it is not the way I would like iot to be , but reality is reality , it is not a matter of TRUTH VERSES LIES any more in america
Many have come to realize it , imo it is what obama is talking about when he just says it real simple , there are 2 choices , and the difference is stark between him and romney , pick one or the other
I have seen it that way the last 15 years , the clueless media only reacts to the gop for the most part , when they fall for the GOP line WE JUST WANT TO WORK WITH DEMS , that BS line is right up there with them falsely claiming they were for healthcare reform , or The Dream Act , the msm give them constent cover for lying about all those , if you want any of those things to happen , vote dem , period ......... and I am not for A ONE PARTY SYSTEM AT ALL!!!
Those radios stations are all about US VERSES THEM for the last 20 years , I would never advertise on them , for sure
Obama won something like 360 electoral votes in 2008, a clear mandate. The Republicans ignored it then, as they will now. I'm expecting two more years of gridlock before voters wake up and throw the Republicans to the wolves in 2014.
Dragoon, you are with the networks' advertising executive that ok'd this pitch- you think many small businessmen are so immersed in their politics that they do not understand that many of their customers do not share their views. That is not the sense I get- the ones I run into locally are very sensitive to anything remotely controversial. That is why you will see tons of flyers posted in the windows of local businesses, but none of them will be even vaguely political. I learned this when I offered some attractive posters for an O8 campaign rally for Obama. The design was so popular I have seen my work copied on local T shirts.
But no one- not in Obama's home town- not even businesses whose clientele is severely liberal would post it in their window.
So I would have thought you are wrong they don't know how these shows are viewed, but then I am confronted by this reality bending proposition that the advertiser believes will be persuasive to small businessmen.
Supporting this president on this day is the single most important political thing I will be doing, in my adult lifetime! Voting for down ballot non-Republicans will be the second most important thing I will be doing!
I know some family and friends who will bring hate into the ballot booth with them today, and I find that truly sad! They will be voting for the Republican brand! -Kevo
Kevo , in this you are one hundred percent correct . The danger is complacency , which favours the gap between representation and us the public .
As for the haters , may the wisdom to care and carry on prevail .
Guys, why should Republicans give a damn about anything you say, after being called "haters"? They won't of course, and then you'll turn around and complain about no compromising.
Consider this your opportunity to be adults. Take it or leave it, but you won''t get a second chance.
Shooter I actually agree with you on this (although not so much on the second chance thing)
People need to be adults and think about things but that goes for everyone
Shooter, Where the statements made by Mitch MCconnel one's of Compromise and willingness to work with the President for the Good of OUR Nation?
Kevo-Why is it that Republicans are only voting on hate? It can't be because we don't like Obama's policies? I didn't hear republicans say "Vote for revenge". Half the people in the country can't be haters as you suggest. I think that there is a lot more to it than that. Perhaps the fact that Obama hasn't done much to improve anything in this country and in fact has made it worse by deepening our debt.
Jes33, learn to listen and read. Obama didn't say "Vote for revenge". Get your head out of the Fox echo hole, and think for yourself.
Pretty much like skunks tea bagged republicans can not smell their own stench. That you believe going back to tax cuts and military spending is fixing the country you are delusional at its worse. Here iis a clue republicans can't be trusted with your 2 year olds piggy bank.
"Obama hasn't done much to improve anything in this country..." Watch the first segment of Rachel's show from last night. You're wrong.
Yo Shooter and Jess33 - process my written statement a bit better! I was not speaking beyond my personal experiences -
"I know some family and friends who will bring hate into the ballot booth with them today, and I find that truly sad! They will be voting for the Republican brand!" - I stand by my words!
You two are determinist thinkers, putting your absolutism upon the statements of others! The implications we make are not filtering very well through your inferential comprehension!
Go back to school! -Kevo
In gop shooters world , you must not point out when people are hate filled , other wise you will offend them , it is better to roll up in a fetal position , and lay down in front of them , that will help them change their ways ... it is stooges like shooter who helped keep jim crow alive for 100 years
Where I come from , we put the bigots in their place , and 100% of the time they run like chicken $hits to the hills , you / they should be offended indeed
This is a battle between people who watch Fox News and people who don't. My brother, during a family reunion this past weekend, started spouting off like he was some Constitutional scholar about how President Obama has trampled on our rights. He is fed this krap by Fox News, Glen Beck, and Mike Huckabee. There is no reasoning with people like this. They saw it on television, they read it in a book--it must be true. And of course, according to them, the rest of the media world is shamelessly lying.
Hey Libgal, What Right's did he say are being trampled on?
Oh, they can never list any of these supposedly-infringed rights... it just sounds good and outrageous in their heads.
Dear Mr. President,
How about you go visit the New York/New Jersey area today instead of playing a game of pick-up basketball? I mean really......
Bloomberg has said a Presidential visit would disrupt recovery efforts, and I do not believe he has been asked to go back to New Jersey - likely for the same reason. I think Christie was wise to have the Pres in NJ within the first few days to assure NJ residents. Now, tho, they are busy cleaning up and rebuilding lives and cities.
Sigh . . . somehow I get the feeling that pascoguy would disapprove of whatever President Obama decided to do today.
Honestly, that is about one of the stupiest things I've heard. This President has spent more time actually on the job than his predessor who liked to golf and cut brush in Texas. And sinse you apparently haven't gotten a clue yet, this is an election and both parties run for election. That means, for those who do not understand this, President Obama is required to go out and remind Americans why he is the President and why he would like to remain the President. I haven't forgotten why he ran last time, or the reason why I voted for him, but there are a few that need reminding, and of course there all those out there that did not vote and he is trying to connect to them, and quite naturally there are those that once supported McCain and the Republican party that are so sick to their stomach after this last four years of deliberately undermining any positive benefits that would have hastened the recovery of our nation because of their parties misdirection are now looking again to see who is the better candidate. The one who helps himself to the contents of your pocket and sends you job over seas, or the one that is and has been trying to rebuild our nation.
Every human needs to rest.
Then you'd whine and complain how Marine One and the motorcade is impeding progress on the recovery.
I think the President is wise to work behind the scenes and stay connected via telephone and the FEMA and Homeland Security representatives on the ground in NY and NJ.
An individual is free to choose to ignore the seriousness of policy for lightweight inferences of social wedge warfaring . In this clumsy perennial posturing the victims who cannot avoid the simpering duplicity of one of the immutable sources of the foul odor of snake oil and bugbear solicitude , can at least be informed of its source .
@kevo are you saying you have a magic wand you can wave and all is don yesterday>??????
@SORRY KEVO THAT MESSAGE WAS FOR
pascoguy65 NOT YOU
I drank the "Hope and Change" Kool-Aid, turned out they forgot to add the sugar...
pascoguy,
Really? If you had just spent about 20 hours a day, every day, for the last 6 months trying to run the country AND a campaign, don't you think you would be ready for and deserving of a little break today? I think both Obama and Romney deserve that today. They've both been working extraordinarily hard, like 'em or not.
He has campaigned for 4 years. That is why our country is in the shape it is in. Too busy cavorting on all the talk shows and hob knobbing with the Hollywood crowd to do any work. He doesn't meet with his cabinet or any of the congress near as much as preceding presidents. Look that up. He doesn't want to compromise, so he ignores the other players and the issues before him. But campaign? That he does well. He has practiced that for so long, he deserves to win the election. Benghazi is a prime example of him hiding things until the election is over.
I don't. I am sick and tired of the people that I hired, whether Democrat or Republican, running around the country raising money for themselves or someone else. I hired them to do a job for ME.They don't represent "the people" anymore, they all represent the "campaign". If I told my boss, sorry I am too tired from being out and up late, I am not going to work today. They would tell me to hit the road. Do they take vacation or sick days when they are on the campaign trail? I don't think so.
jes33,
Get a napkin. You got a little koolaid running down your chin.
Benghazi is a prime example of him hiding things until the election is over.
Another code word for I watch Faux Nooze
There is only one place on the planet worked up about Benghazi ...oops I guess you guys missed this stuff under Bush . We won't even mention 911
2002: U.S. Consulate In Karachi, Pakistan, Attacked; 10 Killed, 51 Injured
2004: U.S. Embassy Bombed In Uzbekistan
2004: Gunmen Stormed U.S. Consulate In Saudi Arabia.
2006: Armed Men Attacked U.S. Embassy In Syria
2007: Grenade Launched Into U.S. Embassy In Athens
2008: Ten People Killed In Bombings At U.S. Embassy In Yemen
2008: Rioters Set Fire To U.S. Embassy In Serbia

collapse all troll posts , they are even more worthless today , click the " ! " next to the check or arrow button on the bottom right of the post , and click NO VALUE
Are you saying 911 wasn't in the news? No one tried to keep anything quiet there. We heard about all of those other things and everything was out in the open. They are hiding what they knew and when they knew it, and want to keep it all quiet and the media is not pressing them because they are in cahoots with the dems. More will come out after the election. If it came out before the election, it might reflect on his foreign policy. The difference is,in Benghazi, they knew things were brewing before hand and nothing was done. The Brits got the heck out of there as did the Red Cross. The consulate in Benghazi had been attacked before. We left our people there as sitting ducks with little to no protection. When they asked for more security it was denied. So... 4 dead Americans to show for that decision. Who denies more security in those obviously dangerous conditions? And then denies help during the actual attack that they were watching real time. Apples to oranges. First, they said it was because of the film, which we find out is bogus. Now as emails surface, everyone in the administration is trying to get their stories straight. They need more time. Just like Obama needs more time to continue to lead our country down the path of destruction.
Jes
I am still trying to figure out the whole "Talk show Hollywood elite thing" Where did that come from. That is the most patently absurd nonsense I think I have heard this whole election season...Well outside the "1916 Navy stuff"...and the Missile shield in eastern Europe stuff...and the "Syria is Iran's path to the sea" stuff...well It's in the top 10 anyway
Now you wanted to talk about Forign policy right...
Jes33, Did you share the same view or anger about the Iraq Invasion? What about when Reagan put the Marines in Beruit?
damskippy: think how disapproving pascoguy will be when he finds out that The President decided to win an election today.
Ms. Maddow I have always enjoyed your show but recently I have become discouraged by the American media and the habit of hiding things from the American people. Like Romney not paying taxes for 13 years, the evidence gotten from the freedom of information act.
Like the fact that the Swiss have placed warrants on Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for war crimes and 147 countries have signed on. 17 of Romneys advisers were Bush advisers too...
Thomas Jefferson said I would rather have a media without a government than a government without a media and sadly I am becoming convinced we have no real media watchdogs. I understand you answer to people but those people should know they have some responsibility to the American people.
Cite? Sounds wonderful, but I haven't seen this anywhere else.
Google it for more information. Bush and Cheney also have warrants in Vermont.
http://cotocrew.wordpress.com/2011/02/06/warrant-for-war-crimes-against-bush/
After I was tipped off about the warrants in Vermont I decided to do some further research and needless to say the Europeans aren't willing to cut them any slack on this.
Have you looked to see who lodged the complaint? A liberal Law professor from Chicago. It wasn't lodged by Switzerland itself. That is where the complaint was lodged. Old news. There are many liberal activitists that believe that our means of interrogation were not lawful and that the terrorists should be tried in courts in the US. We have been that route and so far things are settled for now.
Well the sources I read didn't say anything about anyone in Chicago and it was the Swiss that issued the warrant in 2011.
Voter Suppression in FL -
http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/elections/2012/11/06/local-voting-hits-some-snags/
Blatant voter fraud in Fl. I am not surprised, just sickened. Where is the local news and an attorney when you need help?
Here come the conspiracy theories, the republicans are suppressing the votes! Please people, Romney will win Florida by a huge margin. The only person responsible for suppressing democrat votes in this election is Obama based on his massive failure to lead this country for the last four years! Goodbye and good riddance to the worst president in history!
As for the evidence of insanity , a statement that suggests the poorest of presidents sans the vacationing and uber deciding Georgie Bush may be enough to begin the process of determining the safety of the public from such dangerous judgement .
There is a limit to the venture of insane opinion making that tips towards public safety over self indulgent onanism , no matter how good you say it makes you feel .
Buhbye-
It's not a theory when you have evidence. And the worst president in history was #43, hands down. Romney might eke out a win in Florida, but he's still going home after tonight. With any luck, he'll go live in the Caymans and we'll never have to hear his gish gallop of lies again.
Seen that where people would like to criticize Rev. Al Sharpton, but what is different with Rev. Al Sharpton versus some other Clergy. The main difference is because Rev. Al Sharpton does not act like a Bureaucrat or a Dictator. Rev. Al Sharpton is using his intellect for intelligent reasoning and takes into consideration the true plight of people than looks for what would be good answers and solutions to help people. It is the same thing with Sister Campbell Simone in her work with the poor and people who need help. Neither one is not casting judgement on really anybody, except to get help for people that need it and what are the right answers and solutions that truly help those people. People may think what they do is wrong, but in order to really change things for people it does require very careful thought and courage to break away from stereotypical or forced thinking to really get down to the right answers and solutions.
Rev. Al Sharpton has turned his back on the Bible's anti-abortion teachings while supporting Planned Parenthood's founder's vow to exterminate blacks -- in loyalty to the lefts progressive agenda! As long as there is supression, which the Obama plan will continue, if reelected. Sharpton will still be in business. Sounds like a dictator to me!!!!!!
Abortion is not even mentioned in the bible nor is anti abortion taught in the bible. Though minding your own affairs and helping thy neighbors is.
All the Rev. can do is spout that people are racist. No matter what the issue, if it is in opposition to Obama or his political views, a person is racist for disagreeing.
If people actually READ the Bible instead of allowing these "evangelical Christians" "interpret" it for them, they would know what it actually says.
Same way with word definitions, but it explains why tea bagged republican Mitt wits can read the passage "spare the rod spoil the child" as the bible saying it is ok to beat children, they don't know a rod was a measuring tool and not a club. Same with the word racist, Mitt wits don't understand the word used so they come up with all kinds of definitions and all wrong.
Yeah this never happened.
And this also never happened
Hopefully some day, there will be a cure for narrow-minded tunnel vision and all people will look for the right answers and solutions that we need.
Celebrate the rise in approval for POB and leave the ticks for Mitt. They should feel right at home with this bloodsucker.
Please people go vote, stop playing around, don't be complacent! This election is all about US - whether we keep our current President in office - the one that's given US: Obamacare, saved Detroit, repealed DADT, signed the Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act, has made more money available for Pell Grants & removed the bankster middlemen in the college loan process, has made US safer not just by killing Osama bin Laden but by negotiating downward the level of nukes we have, ended the war in Iraq, etc., etc. - he has been working for US whether or not we voted for him!
Can the same thing be said either about Dubya or Rawmoney? I think not, hell Rawmoney has already been dismissive of 47% of US, and he pays a lower tax rate than most of US! Rawmoney has NO PLANS other than to eviscerate whatever is left of the middle class, and roll back regulations on his corporate buddies along with providing them more tax cuts - we've been down that road - clearly WE should be able to see thru this charade!
VOTE AS IF YOUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT, BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES!!
W is not on the ballot, so I don't know why everyone keeps referring to him, and Romney has not been in office yet, so I don't know how you could compare him to Obama's dismal record. Romney hasn't had a chance to show what he can do yet. I would bet on his record to turn the economy around before I would bet on 4 more years of the same, that has NOT turned the economy around.
.....you do realize by your own logic you just argued that you cannot know what Romney is going to do because he doesn't have a record, yes? Therefore you are saying you would rather vote for nothing as opposed to voting for what you perceive as failed policies. From this logic you could full and well be voting for the same, but you would not know it.
Talk about a conundrum.
His time as Governor of MA doesn't count for anything? If not, then he's not really experienced enough to be President. But if it does count - well, let's see: 47th out of 50 states in job creation; increased the state's debt; claims he worked across the aisle with a legislature that was 87% Democratic, but in reality he vetoed over 800 bills that they then overrode. Low approval rating during and at the end of his term, such that he didn't run for reelection...okay, he got Romneycare passed - but of course he can't claim that now as a success.
Seems to me like that was a chance to show what he could do. He just didn't get much done.
Way to go Mr. Obama!
http://i45.tinypic.com/sobatj.jpg
Once this election is through, it'll be interesting to see if the Republican Party makes the necessary changes they need to survive, like embracing science, and honesty, acknowledging the lower economic strata, and an attitude of cooperation for the good of the American people exemplified by Gov. Chris Christie. No, I guess then that would make them Democrats.
Are you serious? When Romney loses it will be because he wasn't conservative enough.....they are going to go right off the rails .
Republicans will double down on the ignorance and bigotry if Romney loses the presidency (which I pray to God he does!!!!).
Go President Obama Voter this is the MAN to vote for today!!! Move forward with Presdient Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vote!!!!!!!!!!!!
just finished voting...took an hour which is pretty long by NYC standards.
"The challenge of ordinary citizens, then, is to be a proponent of progressive ideas to improve our democratic ideal, regardless of the politics, regardless of the political party. This means striving toward that elusive goal of achieving meaningful equality of opportunity for all citizens, not just the wealthy or privileged few. In 2012, this means re-electing President Barack Obama."
Ordinary citizens can read more at
http://lifeamongtheordinary.blogspot.com/2012/11/audaciously-brazen-part-three.html
It cracks me up when people talk about achieving equality of opportunity. There already IS equality of opportunity if a person is resourceful and works hard. What people are after is FREEBIES to make them equal. They don't want the opportunity to work hard and make it on their own. They want the government to put it in place for them. What more do the democrats want the government to do? They want everything to be free! Free contraception, free insurance, free education, free food, and I could go on and on. They want to tear down those that work hard and make a good living and make them equal to those that don't. That is it in a nutshell. Anyone who is successful is demonized and is going to be forced to share their success with everyone who isn't succdessful. You don't get innovation, invention and job production with those ideals. Sorry! It doesn't work. No need to even try to be a success under those circumstances.
Another right wing lie that shows someone doesn't live in the real world. Wrong as usual the only equal opportunities the tea bagged republicans want are the ones they get for themselves all others don't need the same handouts as they need.
Provide any evidence that this claim is true.
No one is asking for free contraception or free food. It's a straw man to say that people want free education and free insurance. We already have free education up to college at which point we then suddenly begin charging people. Why do we do this? Many people question the legitimacy of charging for a college education when we can provide k-12 without charge. As for insurance: I'm assuming here you mean health insurance. Many people do not believe that health insurance should exist- many believe it should be inherent with the government like public education, police, and firefighters already are. If you're going to disagree OK, but then disagree on the argument that's actually being made and not the fantasy argument you've created.
Provide any evidence for this claim
That's amazing. First off why do you assume that wealth equates to success? Secondly why you assume that increasing taxation on someone who is wealthy by 3% will suddenly make them less successful? What evidence do you have of this assertion? When are the wealthy demonized for being wealthy? Last time I checked wealthy individuals aren't demonized for their wealth as long as the following criteria are met: a. they provide a service or product to the public, as opposed to making their wealth providing nothing back to the community from which they are taking b. they earned their wealth through hard work and not by inheritance, manipulating tax codes, or by receiving government subsidies and c. they do not assume their wealth makes them superior human beings to the rest of the planet. Most wealthy people follow this criteria and so most wealthy people aren't attacked. Those that are, are individuals like Mitt Romney who made their wealth providing nothing to the community while leeching off of others, abusing tax loopholes, and being subsidized by federal and state tax dollars. See the difference?
I am a registered Democrat who lives in the battle ground area of Southwestern Ohio (i.e. Cincinnati area). This area went to Obama the last time. I just voted for Romney - in the end, the message of real change reasonated with me. I have never seen as big a line in my neighborhood polling site - my sense is that this area will go to Romney.
That's "resonated" And now, you're sounding like a paid copy pasta troll, (as this is the second time I've seen this post, word-for-word) or desperate for an argument that counters your choice.
However, you are allowed to vote as you wish.
I commend you for taking that one fundamental step of democracy that is so important to everyone.
PS "Real change" huh?
Well he hopes that robme can change trickle down in order to work even though the problem isn't the person but rather the policy of trickle down, its a policy designed to fail no matter who uses it.
YouBetterThink, if you are going to cut-and-paste this into every thread, would you please correct the spelling of "resonate" first?
whomitmay: "trickle-down" is not designed to fail. it has, so far, accomplished it's primary goal of increasing the gap between the rich and the poor. as policies go, it has been tremendously successful, just not for the 99%.
Actually what trickle down is designed to do is crash markets while allowing a select few to get very wealthy from those market crashes. Trickle down depends on credit buying when credit dries up the whole economy crashes as we saw in 1892, 1929, 1982, 1992 and 2008.
Three takeaways from this election (and I hope Obama is re-elected) are:
1-Democrats can own the future-voting blocs like black/latino, women, young people can be drawn to Democratic agendas if the party will continue to address concerns that are important to these blocs; otherwise republicans will try and draw them in
2-Wall Street will always side with republicans-no amount of business-frriendly legislation will tie the Street to Democrats long term; they all contain Romney DNA
3-Democrats need the white working class voter-this group has seen their incomes drop for the last 30 years. They make less than they did in the 80's when income is adjusted for inflation. Democrats need to reach out to this voter bloc by supporting programs that will increase their income in spite of globalization, outsourcing of jobs, otherwise the republicans will continue to demonize the Democratic base (see #1) every four years and siphon votes away from the Democrats.
As a 68 yr old handi-caped person, this prestdent has done more for America, with less to work with. With all of the Republicans blocks to our recovery, be for him, He did manage to do more, then could be expested.
Then to be trashed by the Republicans, for not doing much, is as stupid as it sounds. We need to hold these republicans acounteble for them hindering progress to our recovery! This was all done due to the fact, that Obama (a black man ) won over McCain (a white man) Republicans looked at this president, as if should be a slave, rather then the president, and refused to except as such. We must not allow them to take us back to the slavery era. We must call them the untruth party, and hold their feet to the fire for being, rasist!

Comment below video:
My wife and I went to the voting booths this morning before work. There were 4 older ladies running the show and 3 voting booths that are similar to a science fair project in how they fold up. They had an oval VOTE logo on top center and a cartridge slot on the left that the volunteers used to start your ballot.
I initially selected Obama but Romney was highlighted. I assumed it was being picky so I deselected Romney and tried Obama again, this time more carefully, and still got Romney. Being a software developer, I immediately went into troubleshoot mode. I first thought the calibration was off and tried selecting Jill Stein to actually highlight Obama. Nope. Jill Stein was selected just fine. Next I deselected her and started at the top of Romney's name and started tapping very closely together to find the 'active areas'. From the top of Romney's button down to the bottom of the black checkbox beside Obama's name was all active for Romney. From the bottom of that same checkbox to the bottom of the Obama button (basically a small white sliver) is what let me choose Obama. Stein's button was fine. All other buttons worked fine.
I asked the voters on either side of me if they had any problems and they reported they did not. I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it. She him hawed for a bit then calmly said "It's nothing to worry about, everything will be OK." and went back to what she was doing. I then recorded this video.
There is a lot of speculation that the footage is edited. I'm not a video guy, but if it's possible to prove whether a video has been altered or not, I will GLADLY provide the raw footage to anyone who is willing to do so. The jumping frames are a result of the @!$%#ty camera app on my Android phone, nothing more.
I hope the voter had the sense to contact higher up election officials and the Democratic poll watcher, assuming there was one. I also hope he was able to vote on another machine or request a paper ballot.
If Romney "wins" PA, this is going to be a very big deal.
I don't understand the people that say they are disappointed in his performance over the last four years when they are totally aware of the obstruction.........
Everything he did in spite of such overwhelming obstruction should be seen as EXCEPTIONAL...
I don't understand the people that say they are disappointed because of so called "obstructionism" It is obstructionism because you agree with all of the Obama ideals. Half of the country does not! The voters sent a large number of Republicans to Congress to do exactly that. STOP the Obama socialistic agenda. Now... It is Obama's job to put his ideals to the side and try to find a happy medium somewhere. That's what lawmakers and leaders do. Find some common ground. But he dismisses everyone if he is not given 100% of what he wants. He said that exact thing on the campaign trail. Principles are worth standing on and I will not waiver ie. compromise. Therefore, we are where we are because of an unwillingness to work across the aisle. If he wins, it will be a LONG 4 years.
What part of the republicans saying that no matter what the president puts out there they are voting no on it that you don't seem to grasp. Didn't your mommy ever tell you no.
Jess33,, Then explain Mitch MCconnel's Remark's, Exactly how long was Pres. Obama in office when they where Made?
STOP the bitching and complaining, get out and VOTE !...
We cannot allow a Mitt Romney presidency to take place !...

never have waited more than 10min. in line in this commonwealth and have voted in large and small precincts for over 40 years.
please, somebody, tell me why so many states have so many problems with this simple act. are they stupid, or just venal?
We all are freedom loving people that live in these great United States. We as Americans have a choice in whatever or whoever we believe. That is our Constitutional Right!! All Men are Created Equal! Why is it so wrong to accept people for who they are? Compassion and respect is a human right! It's not about POWER (rape). womanizer knows compassion. uses it with power. Just think of it this way… Women can have three orgasms and men can have to two orgasms when making love. This subject is so personal that people shy away from what can be The Evolution. I thought that everybody felt that way. Hot diggady dog diggady dog, whatcha do to me, its so new to me, whatcha do to me!!!! Ubetcha!!!! This is not about women taking over… this is about equality, and there is nothing more sensual than having intimate, mutual sex. When i use to think about sex it was always about the Power behind it. Oops, I said it again... Aphrodite!!! Let him experience the way you want them to proceed. squeesing sensation. But sometimes, it is a powerful thing and u should experience that powerful feeling of just letting go everyonce in a while realness of you accepting him... very slowly... I know this isn't political but this is about compassion and respect.
Compassion, I don't know where you were taking this post, but your comments are offensive and out of line for the type of discussion going on here. Keep it Porn free.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPLETE OUTRAGE AND RIGHTEOUS ANGER:
just went to the msn.com main page and spotted a most disturbing thing.
an offer to pre-slant your news coverage for you. just press a button to select "right" or "left" coverage. what a wonderful concept - we'll help you construct your own private echo chamber. isn't that just peachy. now everybody can listen to fox news.
listen-up msn. if you want to use "news" in your name then just report the news. i realize that bias creeps in to even the best attempts to do a neutral reporting of events but journalism is supposed to be about minimizing the bias and reporting what's happening.
this seems a little too like romney journalism - let them hear what they want, not what's really happening. you may have detected that i lean a bit left but i'd really rather hear your best attempt at the truth than some pablum tailored not to offend my delicate sensibilities.
do i have to pare you off the list and just rely on the BBC, CBC, NPR, Al Jazeera, and the like?
