---The American Conservative, trying to make sense of it all. Also?
Romney’s “47 percent” remarks also demonstrated that he has no natural feeling of solidarity for “working Joes.”
When Mike Huckabee said Mitt looked like the guy that fired you, you nodded in agreement.
Please remember, in 2008 Barack Hussein Obama absolutely trounced Republicans in Virginia. Virginia! The Old Dominion that is littered with landmarks dedicated to Robert E. Lee voted for the first black president overwhelmingly. You have been saying that Obama was going to change America. It turns out that America had changed already. That’s why you got Barack Obama in the first place.
About 16.8 million Americans turned 18 between the last election and this one. So, yes, Democratic enthusiasm may be dampened, but demographic changes make it easier for Democrats to turn out the same number of voters year after year.

Ah, there we go, just as predicted. It's Romney and Ryan's fault. Poor evangelical Christians were duped, DUPED I tell you, into voting for these two men.
It ain't over 'til it's over.
Every public officeholder swears an oath of office. Ask yourself, 'What's the point of ANY additional pledge?' Follow the money.
Any officeholder who genuinely believes in representative government should have already publicly denounced the Teaparty/Taliban's efforts to disenfranchise Americans.
If you stood in line to vote, write your STATE legislators an invitation to the 21st century. Washington state voters had their ballots weeks before election day.
The Teaparty/Taliban are still afraid of women making decisions. (John 8:3-11)
Trickle down not only doesn't spur economic growth, it stifles it.
"Corporations are people" = "He with the most gold rules"
First and foremost, politicians are about self-preservation. Republicans aligned themselves with the tea-party because it was in their best short-term political interest to do so. The threat of being primaried was an effective tool to keep the handful of Republican moderates who were willing to reach across the aisle in line.
But that’s all changed now. For every Dick Lugar and Bob Bennett that was primaried, there’s a Scott Brown, Joe Walsh, Allen West and Heather Wilson who are looking in today's classified ads for a job. You can bet that the tea-partiers in congress took notice that their fellow tea-partiers took a beating, and that tea-fave Michele Bachmann barely managed to eek out a win despite out-spending her opponent 12-1. Simply being a tea partier will not save their positions in congress. The threat of being primaried has been weakened.
And every Christine O’Donnell, Ken Buck, Linda McMahon, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock and all the rest are proof that if the GOP wants to continue to exist as a political party, they must move towards the center, reach across the aisle and work to get things done.
Won't happen. The South learned nothing from their defeat 150 years ago, and they'll learn nothing from this. We just have to keep whacking them every election from now to about 2024, and what Frank Rich called "the cockroaches of American politics" (every time you think you stomped them they come back) might be finally done in. Their death has been predicted since Nixon said "you won't have Dick Nixon to kick around any more" in 1962, when they were defeated with Goldwater in 1964, when Nixon resigned in 1974, etc., etc.
Hey there friend. I mean that sincerely.
I live in very rural Tennessee, which I'm sure you are aware is as RED as Texas. I feel it is my duty to say this: All of us are not ignorant, many of us loathe the memory of the civil war and what it ultimately was fought to end, slavery. I myself was never from the kind of affluent family that would have engaged in the practices of oppression, or the hatred associated with it. It is appalling to still see rebel flags flying in the yards of some homeowners, but this is not a representation of who the south truly is. We are loving, kind, welcoming, warm, very respectful, open minded Americans bearing open hearts for all people...regardless of the subtle variances in skin tone, sexual orientation, religion, or politics. Please know that there are extremists everywhere. It surely does sadden me that hatred still resides here, but I will never lose hope. Please don't lose faith in us because a few people cling to the ideals of idiocy, ignorance, and hatred.
Just so you know, I voted for Our President both times. I am proud of that.
the warmest regards
Chad Norris
Er when TC says "the south" and "the north" he's not referring to the literal geographic lines existent today. The south = confederates. The north = those for the union. You aren't a confederate, therefore you weren't the person he was talking about.
I hope you're right. Also I have to say to TCinLA I object to anyone calling anybody cockroaches. That particulary de-humanizing term is used an awful lot by people killing other groups of people. I'm not saying that you are advocating that but it is an uncomfortable association I think you'll agree.
Thanx Chad , from iowa
In re: politicians are about self preservation.
Please! Think it through. Politics is like any other endeavor in that there it has as much integrity as you bring to the job. The Teaparty/Taliban have been trying to sell people on the idea that ALL politicians are crooked, that ALL government is bad. It helps them with their smoke and mirrors campaign of confusion: Pay no attention to the snake oil salesman behind the curtain.
Don't let them define the debate.
CHAD, Never have had a thought about referring to People who live in the South or anywhere for that manner as you mention in your comments. Unfortunately, it seem's that 90% are labeled for what 10% do. I wish that wasn't the case, But CHAD, I know and so does ALOT of others that there are good People all over the Country. So rest assured, up here in WI. I know many who do not classify anyone based on where they live.
Republican introspection lasted all of about 2 hours.
To be fair, that's a lot longer than most thought it would be.
Turns out that scrawny heifer was right "if we don't get Chris Christy, Romney will be the nominee and we'll loose" - who says that a stopped clock isn't right at least twice a day......
That's a mixed bag because for all the wrong-headed, idiotic, statement she's made, she will fall back on that single statement to validate herself.
Even though she said she was wrong about that when interviewed by Piers.
Let's see:
Romney was the "choice of last resort" in the primary, but we all knew he wouldn't have general election appeal. He campaigned in a way until a month ago that didn't appeal to the general electorate. Until a month ago (or so) the conservative pundits were like "we can't win." He's a silver spoon having, job off-shoring, big banking, venture capitalist in a post-crash economy.
So yeah, no surprise he didn't win.
Well, I might have contemplated voting for Herman Cain. But, just because he was SO. DAMNED. UZBEKY-BEKY-BEKY-FUNNY! (And I still think he's a hoot - his appearances on Colbert's show only further convince me that the brilliant Dr. Maddow was right once again about his "campaign" basically being a brilliant piece of "performance art".)

I just watched the Vansustern interview with Dick Morris, where he predicted a Romney landslide, explained that he knows how polls work, and bragged about having made a living doing this for the last 40 years.
Cannot wait to see Dick Morris' next interview, if he hasn't gone into hiding. If he's made a living on this for so long, how could he have been so wrong?
He'll just put "Dr. Dickwad's Magic Elixir" in a different bottle and the morons will keep buying it.
I suspect the answer lies in the fact that some older folks do not understand that the 21st Century is here and is moving forward without them.
I am 61 and I have friends that think they are "so with it" because they are on Facebook. They are on Facebook only because their kids and grandchildren are on Facebook and families spread across the country can keep in touch, otherwise they wouldn't touch Facebook. One has an iPad but when I send her music she can't get it into the iPad until her nephew comes to visit. Another told me just a couple of weeks ago how good she is getting with technology because she logged into her email on someone else's computer! Seriously, they really think they are "with it" after all, they text! No one is on Twitter but me. I suspect that's because they would have to remember another password and/or it's a good source of information.
When you live in a bubble of your own world, you have no idea just how much the whole world has changed in every aspect from what you know and are accustomed to. From the 50s to the 90s things changed over time. NOW, things change at the spped of light!
You can't know what you don't know especially if you won't listen when someone tells you that you don't know. Ya know?
Didn't Dick actually publish a book confidently predicting absolutely for sure without a doubt that the 2008 campaign would come down to Hillary vs Condi? I think he's competing with William Kristol to see who can be more consistently wrong wrong wrong and still draw a bloated paycheck as a "pundit".

American conservatives have actually managed to professionalize snake oil salesmanship , seriously , can you imagine people from other nations who look at us and see people making millions off of nothing else but selling bull @!$%#? While this happens every where , where else are the people put on high, worshiped and become a brand name ? In nations as open and as free as ours is anyway
I find that most people cannot abide a liar and while a certain amount of "bending" facts may be overlooked in a politician seeking reelection, the level of Liar that Romney attained was unacceptable to most likely everyone except those angry white men.
I am so proud of my American brothers and sisters who sent the message that blatant lying, blatant voter suppression, blatant racism will not be tolerated as well as you cannot blatantly BUY our votes.
We sent the message; now we wait to see if it is received and understood. I'm not that hopeful, but there's always a chance.
I think Romney's main problem was that this whole time he was actually running for President, when in his mind he was running for Grand Nagus. (Am I right, Trek fans? ;) )
LOL!
I literally burst out laughing when I read this.
And then, when I remembered the Ferengi and their "Rules of Acquisition", and obsession with profit, I burst out laughing again..
Thinking about it now, instead of being called "Ferengi", they should've been called "Space Republicans".
Thanks for making my day!
Aww, come on, that's an insult to Ferengis. At least they got their @!$%# together and realized that if they included women in the workforce and property owning, they would double their numbers of customers and potentially exploitable workers.
Wrong: Romney Only lost because he was not enough Of a

Let's get Demanding.
It's appropriate that they should mention Robert E. Lee. It was hubris that led him to believe that his seemingly continuous ability to win battles was god's will. The regiments on Cemetery Hill had a different idea. It was hubris on the part of the Republican party to think that because of 2010 they were inexorably ascendant. Oh they knew it would be close but they were certain that they would prevail. In fact I heard a MSNBC (I think) election law expert explain that the Ohio state legislature had recently rescinded the state laws that allow for challenging election results. Hubris, it'll get you every time.
True, but here's the thing about 2010:
Whenever I hear anyone, especially the republicans talk about their election victories in 2010, I never, and I do mean NEVER hear the fact that there was low Democratic voter turnout, acknowledged.
The republicans pretend that Americans repudiated the Democrats, but the truth is, the Dems just didn't come out and vote in 2010.
President Obama, and ALL the Democratic elected officials and pundits need to start pounding the "Get out the 2014 vote" drum NOW, if they want ANY chance of undoing the tremendous damage of the 2010 mid-term elections, and passing President Obama's agenda.
Otherwise, it's another four years of republican obstructionism, and more importantly, the attempts of republican state legislatures, to complete the job of voter disenfranchisement, they started in 2010.
I agree with you about 2010. I'm all for increasing turnout but the systemic advantages the Republicans have since they re-drew the electoral maps after the last census are gonna be pretty hard to overcome. We actually have to kill it in the statewide elections and that I'm afraid is going to be hard and take some time.
From Conservopedia's front page:
Yes Karl Rove is a liberal Republican now because he said to avoid social issues.
I think this is evidence enough of how delusional people on the right have became
That's amazing. Sure, lurch to the right you guys, what've you got to lose? Other than a national party.
I think that the republicans headed by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, kept the republican electorate so misinformed that most had no idea about the reality on the ground. I'm no Romney man, but it wasn't all his fault. To get the nomination he had to go too far out of his comfort zone and the tea party and the ultra conservatives of the party wouldn't let him move to the center. After the 47% video was released Romney's campaign was in free fall until the first debate. Romney then tried to move back toward the center, but I think by then too many people didn't believe him. I beleive that if he hadn't tried to move to the center he would have really been trounced.
Today I've heard more than one Republican/Conservative imply that their election losses were not due to the message, but rather the messenger. That is beyond ludicrous. I am Black, female, and in the middle class. I believe I understand their message perfectly no matter who's delivering it. Do they really think one of those other clowns from the primaries would have done better?!? As long as they support policies which will drag us back into the past, they will never get my vote. The good old days are a myth and I'm not going back.
That's what they always do muggle. They always say it's the messenger and not the message. They refuse to understand that their policies are the things dividing us and that it's not just a failure of the people they pick.
