Not only was the Iowa supreme court justice retained, but the three Florida supreme court justices who had been viciously attacked and targeted for defeat by the Koch brothers and the rest of the right ALSO RETAINED THEIR SEATS!! Yet another victory for the forces of good against the forces of evil!
How come no mention of Alan Grayson's return to office?
11/7 - first fifteen minutes. Watched it with my 24yr old daughter and 16 yr old son. Rewound it and watched it again. When my husband came home we watched it again. Absolutely the best political commentary ever. Amazing.
I agree Ria. It was particularly strong and I am glad that Maddow has the latitude and confidence to engage her listeners in this mode. There was a defeat of a campaign style that stunned many journalists in its brazen and open disregard not just for the media but for facts. She wove together a strong thread of ideas. It was well done.
It was also kind to acknowledge the work done by Patty Murray and the DSCC folks. I have a personal loyalty and pride in her that I suppose adds some bias, but I think she deserves recognition for her service. Excellent leadership.
I concur with Rita C ... last night Rachel's show was amazing ... that first 15 minutes should go down as one of the best post-election recaps by any political analyst ever. So inspiring!
I want to get a full transcript of it so I can forward it to everyone ... how can I get it? Only a partial transcript is listed on the MSNBC website.
I'm happy for the new congresswoman from Hawai'i but you got your facts wrong RE: this film made by a native Hawai'ian who I met in Santa Barbara while showcasing her film as seen on PBS during women's history month about Patsy Mink--first woman of color in congress...

Why has no one mentioned Oregon's vote-by-mail system, successfully in effect since 1998? We have ample time (two weeks) to consider the issues and research any questions in an un-pressured atmosphere (home). We don't use machines, only blue or black ink pens. We can save a stamp and walk our ballots to a nearby ballot box, and there have the feeling of casting a ballot. Our system does require a functioning postal system. I too am feel inspired watching voters standing in line for hours of discomfort. Yet our model is works well. We're well-formed, participating in citizen democracy, without unnecessary suffering.
Great coverage prior to and especially the night of the election. We follow your program every night. The detail and illustrations leading to your main point make understanding of your subject matter clear and concise. My husband loves detail. I am grateful for your assessment of the president and I know that it has enabled your audience to vote based on issues and not the race of our president.
Those Murray links are from 2010. She did a creditable job.
We have the mail balloting in WA also and we like it very much.
The billionaire stimulus program ...
While the billionaires got very poor return on their "investments," they did give the economy a big stimulus because every TV spot they ran was at full retail cost and every newspaper ad they purchased was at full retail cost and all the local people they hired were paid at least minimum wage, and sometimes more.
While candidates, by law, get a super discount on TV time and printed ads, the dark money groups do NOT get those discounts so every bit of all those millions went to real people to help them pay their own personal bills, thus helping the local economies.
Maybe if the billionaires would just hire lots of people for their companies and pay them a middle class wage, the economy would improve even faster. Sheldon could double his employment and not see even a minor dip in his wealth. If Sheldon can waste billions on trying to buy the US government, he can waste billions on helping real Americans.
Thanks for the information on how the President might move on this voter suppression mess. When the President said he was going to do something about this; here is one more reason to be proud of this man. Ohio and Florida should have never happened. Just think if Pennsylvania would have been in the mix. WOW!!!!!!!! What a total mess this country would have been in?????????????
RE: The long lines... There are NO LONG LINES in Oregon or Washington... There everything is done by mail. They mail out the ballot a couple of weeks before the election -- and you can either mail it back, or drop it by one of the many drop locations... generally the local libraries or City Halls. There are some locations that are available for dropping off your ballot 24 hours a day! In Oregon, all ballots must be in by 8 pm on election day... in Washington, you can post mark your ballot on election day. Please have the Officials from Oregon and Washington on your show to discuss this most sane way of Voting. We do NOT have to look outside the US for a good working model !!
