I've never fully understood how Karl Rove developed a reputation as a strategic genius.
In 2000, it was Rove's idea to keep George W. Bush in California in the campaign's waning days, instead of stumping in key battleground states. Bush lost California by a wide margin, and Rove's strategy practically cost his candidate the election.
In 2006, after nearly getting indicted, Rove's sole responsibility was overseeing the Republican Party's 2006 election strategy. He told NPR in late October that he'd found a secret math that gives him insights that mere mortals can't comprehend, and soon after, Democrats won back both chambers of Congress in a historic victory.
And then there's this year, when Rove's Republican attack operation spent nearly $400 million and lost just about every race it contested -- not to mention Rove's on-air tantrum that's already become the stuff of legend.
I think it's safe to say the bloom is off the rose.
"The billionaire donors I hear are livid," one Republican operative told The Huffington Post. "There is some holy hell to pay. Karl Rove has a lot of explaining to do ... I don't know how you tell your donors that we spent $390 million and got nothing."
Rove's operation is holding a phone call for its big donors today "to sum up the race." That ought to be fun, right?
There's also the question of Rove's future. Conservative activist Richard Viguerie said in a statement yesterday that "in any logical universe," Rove "would never be hired to run or consult on a national campaign again."
Media organizations will, however, apparently keep paying him. Rove, who inexplicably maintains a role as a media professional analyzing races he's directly involved in, still has his Wall Street Journal column -- he says today Obama is "lucky" Hurricane Sandy hit -- and seems unlikely to leave Fox News anytime soon.

Leave Karl alone. Hopefully, the republican party will use him to run the 2016 election. That ought to be a sight to behold. [Actually, I loved watching Karl squirm after the state of Ohio was called. Fox News folk looked so incompetent - including Karl. *chuckle chuckle*.] All jokes aside. The republican party and their millionaire/billionaire donors need to run Karl Rove out of Dodge. He should never be allowed to show HIS FACE again.
Time for the republicans to dump the crazies, disavow the candidates who make offensive remarks towards women, and join in the process to help make things work including healthcare reform. There is a place for them, but there's no place for those espousing that rape is God's will.
I say Run him for President in 2016! Can you imagine the ad campaigns quoting him, it would be the stuff of legends.
Rove for Pres + Limbaugh for VP = EPIC DEM win
$3.3 MILLION to re elect a 7 term 'famous' Palm Springs Congresswoman ..widow of Sonny Bono.. shoe-in right? OOPS!
CALIFORNIA Election Story of the year: Epitomizes entire debacle for Right.
SoCal Latino farmworker son, gets $$ for College/Harvard Med School from local businesses!
Returns to practice, Decides he needs to help with HealthCare Reform.
Runs against Famous PalmSprings Widow LongTerm Incumbent
She gets $3.3million OUTSIDE $$ for ads vs his $330,000 and volunteers.

I think Faux News deserves Karl Rove and frankly, so does the GOP. Keep helping them, Karl! I'm enjoying the hell out of it!
"In any logical universe" he wouldn't be hired? Well there you go; he's right at home in 'The Bubble'
well rove sorry to say that you have alot of explaining to do , by the way you better hold on and not make any big purchases with the money you stold from the donations of your rich bud buddies , they just might want some it back ..
Bush called him T**d Blossom now we know why.......He is so full of Bull Sh**t that he can relieve a bunch of wealthy gullible people of 390 million & place it on a sure thing....a thoroughbred called Mittens.......turns out he's a 3 legged donkey.
Karl Rove is a one trick pony who's trick has been exposed but republicans should keep him around because not telling the truth has worked so well for them this year and as long as they can't tell the truth they won't win
The content of the comments made by the general public of the republican party speaks volumes of the moral make-up. they have no morals. they have condemned their children to grow up 'just like them.' so sad.
My oh my, one day cock of the walk, the next day a feather duster and a bucket of KFC nuggets. Please forgive my Schadenfreude. Once again Time wounds all heels.
poor Karl Rove's secret math must not have included a pivotal piece that's not so secret....THE U.S. CENSUS.
There is a price to pay when you dance with the Devil
Rove knows where a lot of bodies are buried and who helped bury them, so will survive in some hole in Right Wing Fantasy land. It will be interesting to see what bubbles burst and what happens to people's understanding when it does. White Right American Arrogance needs to change, but it won't be pretty.
I rather think the bloom is off the turd blossom
Why hasn't Karl Rove been executed for revealing Valerie Plame's identity?
Rove didn't get poor by fleecing his PAC's donors. It's a bsuiness. He makes much money at it.
> I've never fully understood how Karl Rove developed a reputation as a strategic genius.
Apparently he does know how to market himself, at least.
Also, I can't help but think of the famous quote attributed to him:
I guess reality caught up with him.
Whenever politics have become particularly alarming or weird, I always say "I sense the pudgy, Machiavellian fingers of Karl Rove all over this!" It would create quite a black hole if he were to lose his little cave from which he operates. Richard Viguerie, however, is not someone you want to displease. The operant thought in Viquerie's quip, however, is "in any logical universe." Curious to see where this all goes!
since he is now unemployed so to speak does it put him in Romney's 47% group?
The emergence of Karl Rove was the first indicator to the rest of America that Republicans believed and followed through on "crazy" as a political strategy.
Actually, Karl had one strategic trick and he used it to get Bush elected. His quiver is empty now that Democratic strategists prepare for attacks at their candidate's strength.
Lol, Rove isn't very good at this anymore if he ever was.
The fact that Rove has people who are willing to listen to his dribble combined with the narrative that the GOP is floating about Hurricane Sandy being the cause for Tuesday's election results shows that the Rs are in denial...and, are crazy.
There are many in the Republican Party that deny that demographics had much to do with the President's election on Tuesday. Haley Barbour was in complete denial this morning. I hope that they believe what the are saying which will insure additional Republican losses in the future.
