American Family Association research director Ed Vitagliano offers this creative explanation for the President's enthusiastic showing among women voters last Tuesday.
They said ‘what Hollywood star do women love’ and they found that they love overwhelmingly George Clooney, so what they did is they went and got George Clooney to have a dinner with President Obama and then they had a big fundraiser and they said to women, ‘if you want to have dinner with George Clooney and President Obama here is how much you pay per plate for this big fundraiser.’ They did the same thing in the east with Sarah Jessica Parker, who was a beloved icon of many women. So what they did, and it’s brilliant even while cynical, is they hooked women to Obama through these Hollywood stars. These women were saying well ‘George Clooney loves President Obama,’ and a fair number of them I’m guessing said, ‘so I love President Obama,’ and the same thing with Sarah Jessica Parker. That to me, and this is obviously an overstatement, that to me is not what the Founding Fathers envisioned that when they were hoping for a well-informed electorate being advised of the issues and studying the issues, no, what we’ve devolved to is ‘I love George Clooney, George Clooney loves President Obama, therefore I love President Obama.’
Got that? Conservatives' failure with women this year was not the natural reaction to a mountain of tone-deaf legislation attacking their rights, and not even the result of President Obama's own considerable appeal, but instead happened because ill-informed women were unable to resist the supernatural charms of George Clooney and Sarah Jessica Parker. And this, fellow Americans, is why The Clooney must never fall into enemy hands.

Humor is the best medicine. Thanks for the laugh!
Maybe it is because when the candidate is of a gender attractive to us, our hormones tell us to select for the best parent, and so in the case of liberal heterosexual males, we find the fairness, and nurturing policies of an Elizabeth Warren or a Nancy Pelosi gives us a massive electoral boner. The base brain function among het males is the drive to find the best mothers for your children, so there is a physical and emotional reaction to traits one associates with good parenting.
And Greta Van Sustren's tease about whether or not Palin's boobs are real leaves us disinterested.
Humph. I'm not very satisfied by that prurient message but will leave it. I don't really want to see any concentration on sexual messaging, but it is there and can't be ignored in politics. I just don't think it works the way that many people think it works. If it all had to do with pects and sparkle in the eyes then Scott Brown would have won. Maybe MA women have been F'd and tossed aside by guys like that enough times that their reactions are nuanced by what the person actually does and says: Who the candidate actually is.
Yeah. And all I could think of was "F--- you."
So Sarah Palin was chosen because she looked good in shorts?
Ronald Reagan? Arnold? Bachman sure did not wow them with her intellect nor did O'Donnel.
Republicans with their heads up their asses, as usual.
Chuck Norris?
The only thing Chuck Norris is good for is Barrens Chat.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
okay i'm done.
My thoughts exactly:
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Okay, now I am done.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
On second thought, I was not done.
Go read the article - they're even more stupid than you think they are. And if you can stand it, listen to the audio, of course, you'll need to be able to understand Southernish. Southerners are as stupid as they sound.
It hurts so much to think with this hat-holder. It's really better to use my ladybits.
I suppose it's only natural that right-wingers would resort to crap like this. The only other alternative is accept that they just suck like the vacuum of space.
To be fair, we said the same about Palin and all her male supporters. At least I did. :)
First, don't be fair to the Daleks. Second, Palin was on the losing side, so there's no real equivalence there. Plus, you would only have been taking the mick, while Don Vitagliano is offering what he thinks is serious analysis.
(I really shouldn't imply this guy is Mafioso. The Mafia has much higher standards for integrity.)
Julie - plenty of liberal guys (and, presumably, women as well) wanted to have sex with Palin and still managed to vote against her.
How incredibly cynical of Democrats to use the appeal of famous actors that way. We know that Republicans would NEVER try to use celebrity endorsements to their own advantage. They turned down Clint Eastwood's offer to give the keynote speech at ... What's that? They didn't? OK, never mind.
They've also got Ted Nugent, Meatloaf, Victoria Jackson and Dennis Miller. So you can understand why they don't like Democratic celebrity endorsements; the crap factor of their own becomes so much more obvious in comparison.
Their "stars" all became Republicans in a desperate search for an audience stupid and talentless enough to think they're cool and talented
Yeah, Clint Eastwood was a pretty big sex symbol... almost sixty years ago.
MeddlingMonk-- Don't forget Donald Trump!
Dammit! I completely forgot about Donald Trump... and now you had to remind me. Thanks.
LOLOLOL!!
Yep us wimmins are suckers for a pretty face!! i think AFA ought to RUN with that one!!!
Obviously you women-folk aren't that shallow, but I'm thinking the opposite is true and this could explain why Obama lost in the battle over the white male vote - men don't like SJP, these men were saying well "Sarah Jessica Parker loves Obama," and a fair number of them I’m guessing said "So, I don't love Obama."
This is a snark, right?
Yes.
It is so funny watching these people try to explain their defeat without confronting their POLICIES...hysterical....
Because according to them it's not their policies - it was the less than delicate way they spoke about their policies (read: out loud and in public (or recorded in private). If only everyone were as gullible as the Faux news watchers - maybe if they can gut education enough, eventually they will achieve the low information idiocracy they require to remain relevant.
Yes, the Republicans keep talking about changing their "tone". Why don't they just cump their bull crap? Might get them a lot farther.
So they're saying that no womenfolk are in love with Ted Nugent, Meatloaf, that guy that sells tires, Clint Eastwood or empty chairs?
Personally, I voted for Pres. Obama because Brrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccce likes him! ;-/
[Speechless]
The Clooney, The Clenis, the Dems gots all the good weapons.
This sort of thing is funny, yes, but it's the same sentiment echoed by all other right wingers. They refuse to accept responsibility for the failure of their ideology.
For instance, on Morning Joe this morning, Joe went on an epic rant about the right wing entertainment complex fooling honest conservative republicans, blah blah blah.
I guess it's a good thing, because if they continue to stay in denial, they'll continue to lose, and hopefully, God willing, the right wing tea party republicans will be finished for good.
Perhaps instead of just making up stuff, Vitagliano should ask actual women why they voted for Obama. I know many conservatives do not recognize the truth when it slaps them in the face and they thrive on the fine art of making up stuff, but just to set the record straight, women voted for President Obama because he knows women have the brains to make their own decisions without the "help" of actors, the American Family Association, snake-oil salesmen, or the government.
That would require them actually learning "facts" - that is against their ideology.
You know for the life of me I cannot get over the fact that Republicans actually believe crap like this! God forbid it should have anything to do with their policies.
I just assumed that the Fox gang, Rush, Rove, et al, only made up those really stupid conpiracy theories to keep the base fired up, but never did I dream they actually bought their own BS until election night. Amazing!
I almost fell off my desk chair when I read this "And this, fellow Americans, is why The Clooney must never fall into enemy hands." <~ ROTF!!!! Who knew! Clooney and SJP were the real weapons of mass destruction!
This is not a new idea. The founding fathers may not have had George Clooney, or mass communications, but they did have neighbors and friends, and friends of friends, and relatives. If they like "Obama" and I like them, then I like Obama too. That's why early elections, Jefferson v Adams were far dirtier than today...imagine publising slander that your opponent was a hermaphrodite or that if you elect Jefferson, rape, thievery, murder etc would no longer be a crime...
They also offered the possibility of GOING to either of those dinners if you donated. I donated to each, but oddly enough I wasn't the one who was invited to go. :)
That is probably why our Founding Fathers didn't include women in the Constitution.
I go with Jo6Pack and Bruce!
I feel bad for anybody that supports a candidate just because an over-paid, over-hyped celebrity said so...
And yes, people that voted for Romney because The Oak Ridge Boys or Meatloaf said so are just as bad.
Vote for YOUR choice not the choice of somebody else
Some resource/study said that "tall" gets more votes than short,, but both candidates were the same height,, I think it came down to the "nicer" smile...
Twitt (and I) both look a bit like George Clooney and/but unfortunately we both have smiles that look like we're being tazzed.
This is satire, right? Right???
Nope - they're dead serious morons.
Besides the fact I voted for the President anyway, and even though my profile has me somewhat sex neutral, (c'mon, ya'll thought "Knobson" was a guy....didn't ya?)
I would have voted for the President if they had Jamie Lee Curtis, I'm not too keen on Clooney (he's a guy) and well, SJP.....is, meh.
Just sayin'
I couldn't afford one of those dinners, anyway. I gave $50 and my hopes.
:)
As opposed to getting the opportunity to eat with Ted Nugent or Meatloaf, which I believe involves asking them if they'd like a free meal.
They always accuse others of what they themselves are or are doing. It is laughable.
Conservatives voted for Romney because they like the Catholic Bishop and he voted for Romney.
Fill in the list....Focus on the family liked Romney so...All ;millionaires liked Romney so...oh wait...that one is true...hahahaha
Chuck Norris liked R so all karate students voted for Romney cause... Jesus....well you get the point. Just when we thought they couldn't be any more ridiculous...Repubs allowed the stupid to dominate the party and they got exactly what you see now...bitter, uninformed, petty goobers who deserve to be laughed at.
The road ahead will need a lot of patience tolerance and informing. We must get rid of hate radio and FOX Noise (GOP tv) to bring these people back to reality and united with the rest of America. A change in trade policies is a big start.
What??
I was always going to vote for Obama. I got the SJP and GC e-mails. But that was just about the time I started re-directing all my SEND MONEY TO ME -- I'M A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE! e-mails into an Outlook folder I never visited. That folder held >1800 e-mails by election day, long after I early-voted.
Moral? Yep, it's a cynical ploy. Sorry, I don't respond to cynical ploys. My "cynical ploy" antennae are well-tuned. I'd like to be able to afford heat next winter.
Seventy four year old granny here, it works for me. A little eye candy never hurt any campaign.
It actually makes perfect sense, according to their logic. It's the same way that someone who never made more than $50k per year, who is now living on a union pension and/or social security comes to the conclusion that if he votes for the party of the "rich and powerful" he will also magically transform into someone who is rich and powerful, all the while screaming about how corrupt unions and entitlement programs are going to be the ruin of us all. They just want to be rich and powerful like Mitt, and Democrats just want to be George Clooney. Their problem is that most Democrats are aware of the fact that they'll never be George Clooney, no matter who they vote for.
A-fecking-men!
