Starring on Fox Nation yesterday: "As of 3:40 p.m. ET, more than 25,000 Texans have already signed the petition on The White House website to let Texas peacefully secede from United States of America and "create its own NEW government."
Civil War Two, anyone? Only "peacefully" this time? Citizens in 21 other states, pout-raged by President Obama's re-election, are joining Texas in petitioning the government to go it alone. After all, "It is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union..."
To his credit, Texas Governor Rick Perry isn't having it. His office released this statement:
"Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government. Now more than ever our country needs strong leadership from states like Texas."
Thank you, Governor. Because of leaders like you, the Union will survive -- in all its petulant, immature glory.

They get to go so long as they name themselves the Republic of Aggiestan.
Republic for how long?
Theocracy will try to crash the party, but it will be placatingly back-burnered with sincere and empty deferencial treatment at holidays and games.
Conservatism will be the victorius trumpet call to citizens, while the low drumbeat of regulation-liberated business and money silently takes control of all aspects of power.
Republic, indeed.
In the sense it is uttered in Texas, "Bless their hearts".
I wonder what they plan to do when the Texas demographic shift no longer works in the favor of angry white male identity politics.
Then what do they plan to do, segment Texas further into Rural Texas versus islands of blue urban areas?
They are having a meltdown. Separatism makes no sense, and that is what is intended by the "Bless your heart" sentiment which translated means, "What an idiot." Going a little deeper, when Greeks called someone an idiot, they did not mean they were stupid- it was a pejorative term for someone who did not think as a citizen. Someone who thought as a child who never grew up, unable to engage the points of view of others in the social milieu, and reach compromises to move the collective enterprise forward along common ground. An Idiot meant someone who was private and alienated from others- essentially an Archie Bunker who sits in his chair and consumes news that confirms his bigoted views. (link to pdf article on greek democracy sense of Idiot )
They seek to live in their own private world, an Idios kosmos of the entertainment news bubble called FOX. These modern day Archies like Michael Savage admit they really don't like anyone. Like Archie they never really understand how hurtful their bigotry is. Archie the anit semite is shocked in one episode to learn when giving a eulogy for one of his closest friends that he was a Jew. He doesn't understand the "Others", and he doesn't understand his friends, he doesn't understand himself. They are idiots in the ancient greek sense- they just want the world to leave them alone, and that's why many of them never grew up and prefer to hunker down in their Ayn Randian adolescent Bunkers- a utopia for alienated devotees of idios.
So the independent "State" they will not be content without is the state of Idios.
This is the real dilemma of the GOP identity crisis.
By the way, Texas isn't the only state that has done this:
Citizens from 15 states have filed petitions to secede from the United States - Dallas Top News | Examiner.com
25,000 signatures is 0.1% of the population of Texas - 25,674,681 (2011 estimate).
Every state has its fair share of idiots.
In Texas we unfortunately let them run loose in the neighborhood.
We are trying to have the worst committed and removed from office, but we do have to wait for them to come up for re-election. We added one Democratic Senator and some democrats to the Texas Legislature in this past election.
I was going to say that I was suprised by what Gov. Rick Perry said. But then I started to think that I am more suprised he even paid attention to this stupid petition.
Texas, a blue state wanting to come out of the closet.
OK. But Texas cannot fly over federal airspace or sail on federal shores or drive on federal property.
All states are successful only because they are part of the union of states and the majority knows this... but this loud mouth minority of petulant, childish, sore losing ignoramuses who continue to stamp their feet and pout because they didn't get their way should just be ignored by the WH. It doesn'tdeserve the president's attention. There are more signatures to free Don Siegleman who along with the letters of appeal from 48 ex US Attorneys does deserve the President's attention and action. Go to free don siegleman .com and sign the petition. He was jailed after being framed by Rove and friends solely for being a democrat.
The "United States" of America will never be torn asunder from the inside by low information voters Who evidently are no longer proud of their country and the way it works. And btw...Obama has lowered the deficit by $300 billion, a $hundred billion in the last year alone...the most of any president in modern times except Clinton...so get real and join us in reality.
Oregon has filed no petition to secede from the union. They have been no talks of doing such. We are a blue state with an intelligent Governor.
Please keep in mind, these petitions come from individuals not States as misstated in the Dallas Examiner above.
@Larry, someone from Oregon has in fact filed a petition. From Tillamook, no big surprise :)
It will never happen. Yep, no surprise that county hates the Black man in the WH. It's also probably the most racist county in OR.
OK you can leave but you will be no longer recieve any Federal funding. See how long you will last. I'm looking at you Alabama!
Too bad they can't spell -- "it's citizens' standing..."? That should be "its..."
Only liberals obey the rules of grammar.
It's Texas grammer :)
If they want to secede just remember what John Boehner said, "House Republicans want to pass a strong border security, illegal immigration bill. We want a bill. There is no ifs, ands or buts about it."
yeah! Let Texas go, then lock 'em out. I wonder, will they become part of Latin America then?
G'bye. Please take Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma and South Carolina with you.
Please don't write us off. Some of us are still sane.
I sincerely hope their secession petition is considered seriously. I mean it. Talk about focusing the mind. Let them stare at the possibility and what it would all mean.
Please, please, please. I'm with Jurgan. And there are probably a couple of other states they can add to the "New Confederacy." Let's see how these "red" states do without all of the tax money transferred to them from those "blue" states they hate so much.
Don't let the door hit you, on your way OUT!
Anyone yet told these folks that with secession the federal government pulls all military bases, all contracts with TX firms, ends all assistance, and... they get their pro-rata share of the national debt, by population.
Hello Houston , Please arrange for the Flight center all it's equipment and personnel to be transferred to Cape Canaveral .
Johnson should have never thrown you that bone in the first place.
If it's OK with you we'll move the border fence to the Northern border since y'all are illegal aliens now.
I'll help with that fence.
Let's see. Texas has about 25 million people. What's that about $1.2 trillion of our debt is theirs? Now let's see if they can balance the budget!
Now I thought Texas was one of those "taker" states, like most "red" ones happen to be...something about taking stimulus money to balance your budget then decry the federal deficit..
Actually, Texas is the only red state that is not a taker state. It only gets about .94 of every dollar it pays in taxes back.
What a bunch of whiner babies. The signers of this petition love crawling into bedrooms to determine what other Americans do with their privates, but throw a tantrum if a politically moderate black man is elected president.
Everybody git back in the Alamo. When you hear them drones, shoot
your guns in the air.
Well, at least the petitioners said "the Federal Government" rather than "that black guy in the White House" as I doubt the signees took into concideration the entirety of our government beyond that small fact.
These people need to join the service and head overseas, join Doctor's Without Borders and serve in a few poor countries, join the Peace Corps and learn what making a difference means, go visit Haiti and understand another meaning for "spoiled".
Idiots.
(7th gen Texan)
I give Rick Perry no credit whatsoever ... he's just positioning himself for a president run in 2016, and he's smart enough to know that the wack-a-doodle stuff doesn't work anymore.
Only if he can learn the name of that third agency by then...
In 2016 Rick Perry will be so far into his dementia that we won't even remember his own name. He'll spend all his time cuddling Aunt Jemima bottles.
I posted this on yesterday's "Texas wants to leave" item.
I did not write this - I don't know who did. But it sure is funny.
"Dear Red States
We're ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics and we've decided we're leaving.
We in California intend to form our own country and we're taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren't aware that includes New York, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the rest of the Northeast.
We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especiallyto the people of the new country of The Enlightened States of America
(E.S.A).
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas , Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get those ignorant fools at Ole' Miss.
We get 85 percent of America 's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama .
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunchof single moms.
With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92%of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulfur coal, all livingredwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99%of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, RushLimbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the deathpenalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
We're taking the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.
Sincerely,
A Citizen of the Enlightened States of America"
Now hold on. There's no reason to think that every person who's signed that is, in fact, a Texan. I know plenty of people among my non-Texan liberal cohort who would be just as happy to have Texas go its own way.
I wonder if when they recite the Pledge of Allegiance they understand what "indivisible" means? Maybe the only part they mean is "under God".
They probably think it's actually "Invisible"
When I heard only about 50 whack-a-doddle righties signed this petition but once word got out about Texas succeeding, Thousands of liberals immediately signed it...hard to stop laughing at this nonsense. Bye Bye GOP tea partiers. Glad to see you get voted out of government just in time to ensure the planets survival.
That's 38 electoral votes the Republicans wouldn't be able to count on. Hmmmmmm....
How do these mental midgets think they got a "balanced budget" without Federal dollars? President Clinton had it right when he said they couldn't do arithmetic. And with secession, would everybody need a passport to travel to another state, including sports teams, business people, and vacationers?
Parlyne is right. How about signing this petition I just signed instead? https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/deport-everyone-signed-petition-withdraw-their-state-united-states-america/dmQl1bXL
My question is pretty simple: If you think the government is so corrupt and untrustworthy, why do you think it will be convinced to let you go by a petition? I saw someone on facebook saying she was worried she'd be "disappeared" after she signed it. But, yeah, get enough signatures and they have to let you go!
Related question: Do people who sign these petitions still get to criticize our patriotism and say we don't "love America?"
During the Civil War, the Confederate States were not sending Rep's and Senators to Washington.
This period produced the Homestead Act, Land Grant Universities, the trans-continental railroad, the 13th and 14th Amendments, and federal legislation that essentially created the modern corporation.
In other words, the last time Texas, Alabama, etc. were not in the Union the Federal government began the transformation of the U.S. from a class-stratified agrarian society to our socially mobile modern industrial society. (If you attended a state university, you can thank the Congress of 1862.)
Why should we be upset if Texas stops sending Senators to Washington?
Texas is at or near the bottom of every meaningful statistic on the well-being of its citizens...low education standards, high poverty, low per capita income, percentage of citizens on welfare and food stamps....the list goes on and on. If they consider that a mark of their "success", then I sincerely hope the rest of the country continues to be "unsuccessful". If they went off to practice their "success" on their own, I think they'd quickly learn how backward they truly are.
Which is why I thought it funny that they were touting "protecting its citizens standard of living"!!
Here's where Texas says they are
Quality of Life
(50th=Lowest, 1st=Highest)
• Income Inequality Between the Rich and
the Poor 9th
• Income Inequality Between the Rich and
the Middle Class 5th
• Median Household Income 34th
• Home Ownership Rate 44th
• Homeowner’s Insurance Affordability 46th
• Auto Insurance Affordability 24th
• Personal Bankruptcy Filings Rate, Per Capita 39th
• Percent of Households with Internet Access 42nd
You can go.
Any military bases in your state? Don't stay with you.
Any defense contractors in your state? They don't stay with you or we don't buy from them anymore.
Any Federal infrastructure in your state? We expect to get paid for our investment (hey, it's the free market, ain't it?)
Anyone currently living in your state who would prefer to remain an American? You will pay to relocate them.
AND DON'T MAKE US SEND GENERAL SHERMAN BACK DOWN THERE.
And if there are any hurricanes along your Gulf coast . Too bad so sad ...FEMA ain't coming
you mean OUR Gulf Coast. They dont get the Gulf Coast just because they are on it. They dont even get all of Texas. The oil is OURs. The land is ours. You can have an Inland pocket of texas where all of your people can live and have their oh so great economy. you no longer get cheap product from the u.s. if you buy goods you buy at foreign prices. your companies can no longer hold titles to u.s. land. we will no longer help protect your borders. that is on you to pay for. we will not be your ally. you will get no help from us. hope that mexico doesnt still hold a grudge over that whole war we had and see this as an opportunity... cuz they will outnumber you vastly. you get the people wo signed the petition and enough for them to survive. the rest you can fight it out for. re cut off railways. and we will enforece our borders. better than you, thats obvious.
While we're at it, we can tear up the Interstate highways and use the pieces to build the wall. We paid for it, we get to use it as we wish. That's how freedom works.
Will we treat Austin like West Berlin? I'm looking forward to United States President Obama flying in there and announcing to a cheering crowd of thousands of pro-freedom usetabe Americans, "Willie Nelson und ich, wir sind Austinoids!"
In the Original Intent Department, they don't mention that among of the prominent "ideas and beliefs the founding fathers" really dug were slavery and only propertied white men having the vote. I guess they don't have to. When they remember the Alamo, they skip over reminding us that Mexico abolished slavery before the US did.
I'd like to see Governor Christie take a stab at responding to a petition like this. He'd probably say, "Quit this nonsense and get back to work."
Republicans in all those states have to respond, because it is their supporters who have gone bonkers.
It's all pretty funny until you click on this.
http://www.pantex.com/about/index.htm
Pantex belongs to the US Government too, just like all those Army bases Texas will have to give back!!
But what if they say no.
