What President Obama told liberals at the White House.
President Obama to give a full press conference today.
Sen.-elect Angus King (I-Maine) will announce whether he will caucus with Dems or the GOP.
So, uh, Congress? How about the Violence Against Women Act?
A federal judge questions Ohio Secretary of State John Husted's motives for changing how votes are counted.
Mitt Romney is reportedly still paying his campaign staffers, while Obama staffers pack up and look for work in Washington.
New York City's public housing projects finally get power back two weeks after Hurricane Sandy.
The first scientific study of what happens to women who are denied abortion.

So, what's going on in King's head anyway? "Losers? Or winners? Losers? Or winners? So hard to choose!"
With the party of continued job losses and secession threats and tax raises or not....
Scott, once again your post is incoherent... what does your skreed even mean?
I think "he" is a badly-programmed chatbot from the '80s.
And this is actually what happens when a woman is denied a medically necessary abortion: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/nov/14/savita-halappanavar-medically-unnecessary-death
Two weeks ago, a woman died in Ireland because "it's a Catholic country" as she was reportedly told by doctors. She replied "I am neither Irish nor Catholic" but she was still let die as the doctors waited until the fetus' heartbeat stopped before removing the 17 week old fetus and treating her properly.
That is got to be one of the sickest things that has ever occurred. This is just part of the problem when you let narrow-minded religious hypocrites have any sort of say in peoples lives. These hypocrites are more trouble and problems than they are worth. And unfortunately is what they are trying to do in America with their sick tunnel vision minds and if you let them continue it will get much worse. Never trust or let these bastards out of your sight, because they will bring more abuse, misery, despair, and death than you can ever believe.
What's fun is that in September, a group of Irish doctors released a statement saying that they found no proof that abortion is ever medically necessary.
http://liveactionnews.org/international/dublin-declaration-abortion-is-not-medically-necessary/
That was September. About a month and a half before Savita Halapanavar died for want of a timely abortion.
It's not just sick; as a woman who hopes to be pregnant in Ireland someday, it's terrifying.
Oh, and Jezebel's post about the incident states that things are improving because there's a clinic in Belfast. Belfast is in a different country to Galway, and someone sick in a Galway hospital can't travel.
We shouldn't lose perspective as to what all this means:
Religious zealots become zealots because they need simplicity and certainty in their lives; it's an adjustment to their personal problems. However, this mode of adjustment requires them to maintain the delusion that their tenets represent the absolute word of a one and only supreme deity. If they can't maintain this delusion, the adjustment fails, and all the stress, complexity, and uncertainty returns to their lives. They're like serious addicts who will do anything to get their next fix and avoid the horrors of withdrawal.
There are cyclical resurgences of zealotry in the history of this country, and we are in one of these resurgences now. This is, however, the first resurgence in which technology can connect zealots from all over the country, so their strength is magnified. They also vote, more than they used to, because technology allows them to be reached by demagogues, and enables them to react in unified ways that weren't available to them during previous resurgences.
The problem, therefore, is not the fanatic/fundamentalist politician or candidate, but the resurgence of fanatic/fundamentalist in the population who will vote for the Akins, Mourdochs, Walshes and Huckabees who are eager to enact laws to maintain their collective delusion. As long as these nut jobs are in the electorate in large numbers, they'll be in the federal, state, and local governments. When this resurgence subsides (and we may be seeing the beginning of that now), the remaining incorrigible zealots will lose political power and turn inward, to prayer and religious ritual. It's a population problem, not a politician problem.
Yes, and that group of Irish doctors got around the obvious lies of their statement by saying that 'treatment for ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion.'
What a load of self-serving nonsense. A proceedure that deliberately ends a pregnacy is an abortion. Keep telling yourselves that but meanwhile, irish women, catholic or otherwise will continue to take the boat, usually alone, to abortion clinics in the UK.
It's a shameful situation, that poor woman and her family. It would me think twice about ever travelling to Ireland if I was pregnant.
Yes, this kind of politics disgust me. The women of Ireland should refuse their husband/men sex until this changes; it has worked before, and it can work again. It's your body, fight for it.....
Great to see the judge stick it to Husted. Husted is nothing but a right wing political hack, totally unqualified for his position. He did the bidding of the Republican Party and tried to steal the election in Ohio. I hope he is soon out of this position. The Repubs will give him something else- maybe tearing down Dem candidates' lawn signs.
If this is Romney's business policy to what Bush and Chenney did which it appears it is. Romney drives businesses to cut costs and than exports jobs overseas for slave labor. But in the process very little Sales is generated to support the business and as people become unemployed seeking a new job for less wages and benefits. The final outcome is workers are driven to poverty and as slave labor as the rich maintain all the wealth. It appears that Romney has been involved in politics for longer than we think and heavily involved in the Bush and Chenney era which really does make this a joint effort by the corrupt Republicans and rich. Yep, the typical evil tyrants are still at it. One could say we are dealing with some real airheads with no brains between the ears.
Romney drives businesses to cut costs? Are you really that ignorant? In a global market...to compete on the shelves of other countries with MUCH lower tax rates and wages....HOW do you make your product affordable? Duhhhhhh.....
Or in other words shooter listed all of his traits then pointed his fingers at everyone who he doesn't agree with because they use real facts instead of repeating the same lies 3 times or more. Better known as projection.
I can only hope that Shooters screeching desperate reply is an indication of the attitude of the GOP as a whole - No need for the Right to be around any longer than they have to, and then we can get on with the proper governance of our nation.
Shooter, that was such a mature post(not).
and yet he keeps coming back on altruistic mission to save us all from ourselves .
How many converts so far?
If you really despise us so much why do you keep coming back.
Like the abuse I recon.
Now about those tax rates...http://www.kpmg.com/global/en/services/tax/tax-tools-and-resources/pages/corporate-tax-rates-table.aspx
Scott and shooter: just don't know what you cannot understand about what the truth is, what problems we have in life, and simply to find the right answers and solutions rather than to follow some nonsense and irrational ideas or decisions.
9) Liberals Won! get over it, Shooter!
The world according to shooter242? I don't believe in your list; I think it makes you feel better with it tacked to your bathroom mirror. You don't define me, and I don't use the word 'liberal' or any other slogan to define my activism. We define ourselves, and you can't control us with your madison avenue slogans. Give up, and go be a butler for your boy Willard; it is the best job you will ever get from him. Shooter is a Drudge Troll crybaby that is wee weed up because his side lost the election; hint: try using facts, and offering solutions, instead of whining.....
every day of this administration the economy has sank farther and farther...American Business has been under siege for 4 years with this anti business and anti American agenda. Won what? the house remains firmly in Republican hands and the popular vote was a dead heat. Status quo. And if this guy continues with his Welfare state mentality and social spending maven....nothing changes.
http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2011/02/09/10-Big-Corporate-Tax-Breaks.aspx#page1
Scott, what proof do you have that the president has a anti business agenda; maybe you tanked your business due to ineptitude, and you are expecting a hand out! Would you like the list of businesses that Willard gutted, and put employees on welfare? The president offers 4 trillion in deficit reduction, your sides lyin' Ryan budget would have added 6 trillion to the deficit; you can't prove me wrong. Give up your slogans, and work for bi-partisanship. You cannot pass a bill from the house, you only pass right to life bills, and did nothing to pass bi-partisan deficit reform bills out of the house. The ball is no longer in your court, you lost......

"what happens to women who are denied abortion."
Sadly, also this:

I'm new to this blog but a loyal and committed TRMS viewer and I just want to say the deepest and most heartfelt thank yo to Rachel and her team for championing 'truth, justice and the American way of life!' It has meant so much to so many of us to have a super intelligent and loud and visible voice bringing daily sanity to the insane American political discussion.
Sending thanks, love and blessings your way!
Marsha, I couldn't have said it better!!!!
THANK GOD we have someone like Rachel to confirm we are not alone in our thinking. She definitley kept us sane leading up to the election.
And kudos to Ed, the Reverand, Chris and Lawrence, too! Keep up the excellent work!
Dont forget Bashir!! He is truly one of the best.
So Congress wants the president to do their job and legislate? They want him to write the bills and let them veto him? Amazing.
Does that give Biden the power to over ride Congressional vetoes?
Very interesting comments this morning. I live in Ohio and I wanted to punch John Husted. He is wishy washy. He wants his own way. It seems to me our politicians are preoccupied with sex. first, abortion then David Petraeus and his lot General Allen. Does anybody care about doing their job and legislating for this country. John Mccain was on this morning talking about David Petraeus. Is anyone thinking about the fiscal cliff that we are facing or are they concentrating on David Petraeus and General Allen. On Benghasi. In the tape Romney was hoping for an incident like the hostage crisis. Do you think some nuts took him at his word and engineered something like that. I wouldn't put it past them.
An offshoot of Occupy has come up with a new campaign: Rolling Jubilee. They buy up bundled debt of random private citizens for 1/20th the face value and then cancel the debt. They launch tomorrow, but have already raised nearly $150,000.
I'd be interested to know what people here make of that.
Between that and volunteering for Sandy relief , I would say ,what a way to put a positive face on the cause.
I watched to TV bio on Rolling Jubilee, and I think it should be a model for volunteerism done right. The organizational/caring skills were very professional, without the bloated infrastructure to pay for.
I am interested in Rolling Jubilee as well. There are apparently some questions, though, about the tax liability of those whose debt is forgiven this way. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-11-13/to-forgive-is-divine-then-comes-the-tax-bill
Thank you, Tricia. That's very informative. Nice to see a balanced take on it.
That's only true if they legally 'forgive' the debt. They can just 'forget' to collect.
Marsha on the Move.....WELL SAID! Rachel is terrific. She is so good at making things simple to understand. We have become political junkies, thanks to her. I wish more people watched her and learned from her the REAL FACTS. Even her quick commercials have such poignant statements.
Rachel for President in 2016!
Kudos on a great show last night Rachael......you took us back in time and brought us back to the present with those video games.
The Ami Berra cong. race in CA7 is still up in the air, against Dan Lungren. Dr. Berra now leads by 3800 votes, with votes remaining to count. It is not as bad as the Arizona situation, or Wild West threatening to sue, but it would be a big upset in a mostly republican district. The DCCC might need legal funds on a challenge, for anyone that is interested....... Dan Lungren's father was Nixon's GP, and Lungren was using that to fund raise as being anit-ACA, and highly outspent Dr. Bera.
I can't praise Judge Algenon Marbley enough for his take-down of Jon Husted. His ruling is right on the mark. Husted's response is to appeal once again. Has this man never heard the definition of insanity?
i just read about this crackpot fox anchor who called rachel an angry young man. She was given a 2 day suspension. What a bunch of bull@!$%#, it's unbelievable. As i posted elsewhere, Rachel rocks, and this "person" is jealous, spiteful, and ignorant.it's totally uncool, I'm so sorry you have to put up with people like that. If it helps, there is people like me, who find you witty, intelligent, and funny. I guess the best thing to do is like Obama, that lil brush of his shoulder.
She's an anchor on Fox 19 - a Cincinnati station. Fox? SURPRISE! She's the usual little blond newsreader who carries little weight. She got herself in some big trouble because Rachel has so many fans who BLEW THEIR STACKS over it.
She posted it on her personal FB page rather than the station; that's probably why she only got a two day suspension.
Rachel doesn't care - our brilliant, educated Rhodes scholar? Poof! :)
Rachel said on her show, in regards to the lady that complained to the FBI about the General's Emails (Petraus debacle,) sic, that "I would have to call the FBI weekly, in regards to my Emails from the MSNBC site!" Rachel doesn't need to worry about these kinds of people, and would never act so petty. I think it was correct for the station to take the action that they did. Faux inc. does not have editorial control on it's non corporate affiliates, and some people on this site should not blame the affiliate for the corporate. We don't need villains, people, as then we would be as petty as Faux corporate, and Ruprecht!
There will always be people who feel threatened by nonconforming behavior who will lash out to 'protect' themselves. It's sad, really, but instead of being sympathetic, I think I'll instead make it worse.
So here's salt in the wound: Women like Rachel are more quintessentially feminine than every normatively 'feminine' woman in the world added together. Rachel simply acts and dresses like any women would given the choice. It's really men who are into makeup and frilly things, but most of them don't have the guts to indulge themselves, and so they've hoodwinked women into dressing up for them. So, as heteronormative 'femininity' is really a masculine con-job, all you girly-girls at Fox and Fox affiliates are the real drag kings! So there.
I'm curious as to why the President is having a news conference today BEFORE he meets with the corporate leaders. It would be nice to hear about what his plans are for the fiscal cliff without having to deal with the Petraeus junk - and that's what it is. It's only been five days and I'm already so sick of hearing about it - it gets sillier and sillier every day. Crawl on MSNBC says that Jill Kelley called 911 and tried to invoke "diplomatic" privilege. WHO CARES???? but that'll be the whole news conference, wait and see.
I really REALLY wish MSNBC would get back to covering the first week of the newly re-elected president and blow off the salacious sex scandal. Please?????
Open note to @Shooter242: We value differing opinions here, both at the show and on the blog. At least some of the time what you're doing in the comments seems like something besides just disagreeing. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that you're jumping in on as many posts as possible in an effort to get people riled up at you.
It's as though you want to become the subject of as many comment threads as you can.
In any case, when you say things like so-and-so is ignorant "as are most of the commenters here," you're over the, whatever you're trying to do.
I admit I put Shooter242 on "ignore" awhile ago. I just assumed he's a troll. A friend of mine has a blog and some of the best advice he ever gave me is to ignore the troll.
People should ignore him, and everyone like him. I have. Ages ago. I wish more people would because responding just gives people like that what they're after. (OK, sometimes I egg them on for sport, but that gets boring fast.)
Very sad story coming from Ireland, where abortion is not legally available, about a pregnant Indian woman who was miscarrying her baby but could not have appropriate medical intervention while the foetus's heartbeat could be detected. It was too late to save the mother by the time the baby died. Check it out via searching on Galway Regional Hospital Savita or via this link:
Kind of neat that the President met yesterday with union and public advocacy people. Today he meets with CEO's of companies that make or do stuff. I like it that he has no
meetings with the Wall Street types who don't make or do stuff but get their money off the efforts of those that do.
I am concerned with the number of organizations that collect money for veterans. Has anyone checked to determine what percentage of the money collected by these organizations actually goes to veterans? The Military Order of the Purple Heart had problems with it's Foundation's expenses. It took them a while to fix them. I'm also not sure what these organizations do that the VA does not do. There is some criticism of the time it takes to process disablilty claims but there is no criticism of the excellent health care provided. In Nebraska, claims from OIF OEF vets are fast tracked and each clinic has a person responsible to be the advocate of these vets. In any case, disability checks are back dated to the date the claim was filed.
It saddens me that there's been so little reporting on the ongoing Israel/Gaza situation. No one's even asked the President in this press conference.
If Romney is still paying his staffers, what's with canceling the credit cards the morning after the election? Was that a bogus story (although many assured us it was the truth)? Can anyone clear this up for me?
I don't like the name of this act. It has the word "women" in it. Not all victims are women. Most are.
It should be called the Male Violence Act.
Not all attackers are male. Most are.
And the attackers must change. Not the victims.
Why does this @!$%#ing site have a male avatar as the default? For @!$%#'s sake.
Answer: Because "people" STILL equates to "men."
@!$%# that @!$%#.
Then upload your own damned avatar. See? Mine's a girl. It's not hard, and it's more fun than yelling.
Also, your female avatar is very close to the shape of the default avatar, which is, after, just a head and shoulders. It could easily be a woman with a hat, short hair, a ponytail, or any number of things.
So? I cropped the head of my MOULa avatar, which is female. You can make your avatar anything you want. Or you can just complain.
Stop whining Winnie. I don't have an avatar because I haven't found one that suits me. Otherwise I could give a F@%k
I wasn't complaining, Monk. I was agreeing with you. What I was attempting to point out was that it's only Winnie's assumption that the default avatar is male. Since it's just a generic outline, it could easily be female.
And yes, I could have an avatar. I've got an image I use in a lot of places. I just don't post here often enough to warrant mucking about with user settings, even though I do read the site several times a day.
(Now to see if I can delete the comment below, which seems to have fallen out of the thread...)
shut up. of course it is a male avatar. do you lie for fun or for money? every other comment was a male whining about how small his penis is when erect.
Double post. Ignore.
