President Obama's resounding victory was painful for the Right, no doubt about it, but Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of RedState.com has a message for the extreme kook end of his party: Get Over It or Get Out.
Barack Obama won the election.
He did not win by stealing the election. Voter irregularities always happen. It is one reason we support voter ID rules. But even in the worse scenario of reports out there, there were not enough tales of voter irregularities to matter nationwide. This is another benefit and built in safeguard of the electoral college.
Barack Obama won. He won by turning out the most people in a well run campaign. In other words, he won fair and square.
We here at RedState are American citizens. We have no plans to secede from the union. If you do, good luck with that, but this is not the place for you.
We have a place for you here if you wish to continue the fight against Republicans in Washington like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell who’d be happy to sell us down the river to keep their power, no matter how devoid of principle or sound policy. You have a place here if you’d like to keep fighting the Democrats who are intent on further stifling economic growth, pushing forward with Obamacare, bankrupting the nation, and siding with teachers unions against kids who deserve better.
Too many people have spent the past four years obsessed with birth certificates. Now they are obsessed with voter fraud conspiracies, talk of secession, and supposed election changing news stories if only we had known.
So let’s add dabblers in this latest nuttiness to birthers as a category of people we do not welcome at RedState. Our aim is to beat the Democrats, not beat a retreat to a Confederacy that Generals Grant and Sherman rent asunder well over a hundred years ago.
Even here at RedState, while we may not much care for him, President Obama is still our President and we are still quite happily citizens of the United States. If we must drain this fever swamp that’s taken hold of a few people on the right over this past week before we can drain the swamp in Washington, so be it.
All others need not apply.
Sincerely,
Erick Erickson

What? Common sense in the land of the right?!!!! On the God they worship and have sex with, they should listen to people like this instead of Rush, Hannity, O'Reily and Fox News but for Democrats sake in winning future elections, please continue to do so lol.
No but seriously one can only pray that some catch on to the light at the end of that republican tunnel and step into reality and facts. But being an atheist, they can continue to worship that their God will bring about victory (which failed twice lol so where is your God?), pretend the fox news reality in which they live in is real and believe the facts (charts, polls*lol*, data and everything) according to the wignuts that they worship is true, will only benefit democrats so why the f*ck would anyone want to wake them up from their alternative universe? I hope some do but for the rest let's hope they don't so dems can continue to win.
"The God they worship and have sex with"? What is that supposed to mean?
so, where's the repudiation of Faux Noise, Limbaugh, Beck, et al. They *all* repeated the stuff that Erickson now finds so ludicrous. Beck was on Erickson's radio show. Erickson said this himself ""We have become, or are becoming, enslaved by the government. . . . I dare 'em to try to come to throw me in jail. I dare 'em to. [I'll] pull out my wife's shotgun and see how that little ACS twerp likes being scared at the door."" ACS- American community survay by the Census dept.
Erickson seems to be no more than the usual hypocrite that knows what side his bread is buttered on.
Anyone else see the irony in blaming the hurricane for Romney's loss? The evangelicals always like to point to these events as God punishing us for (insert your chosen sin here: gays, abortions, etc., etc.). Following that same 'logic', I choose to believe Sandy was God's warning not to elect Romney.
Seriously, look at the timing.
(s/o)
You know why Erikson is like a broken clock? I know you do. But on information about issues he is always misinformed and misinforming.
Obama has already lowered the deficit by $300 billion so far...$100 billion this past year alone. More than any modern day president except for Clinton.
The fortune 500 businesses and corporate America have been more profitable under Obama than any president since Harding. (Now with such huge profits earned they complain about putting a little of it out there to pay for health care plans for their employees-geez.)
Obamacare will lower the deficit by billions over the next 10yrs while improving health care costs benefits and services. Erik Erikson is so pitifully misinformed but facts have never stopped him from telling people how it really is, ha.
So he's right once in a while. Still it usually is because he wants to be different and needs attention. Like a tea partier would say..."look at his voting record on legislation...just look at how he votes on the issues"..."but he's not a congressman sir"..."so, what difference does that make".
Until someone on the right owns up to the need to run a more honest campaign both with 'facts' and no voter suppression, it remains so much B S.
and they still have to deal with the Primary Crazies
Until they start dismissing Rushbo as a senile old windbag they will never never return to sanity.
If the Republican Party wants to have a future, then whoever is running that party has to come to the conclusion that people like Limbaugh and Beck are a detriment to their party and need to be shunned.
Totally agree with both of you.
Despite the expected foolishness about dems want to bankrupt the nation, (I have yet to hear a rationale from the right as to what dems would get out of this), it's about as sane a response as we can expect from the right. Apparently some fault lines are occurring in the continent of magical thinking, and one can only hope the rift zone expands to the extent that there may come to pass a rational repub party that splits from the Tea Partiers, birthers, racists and other loonballs that have taken over the party. We are stuck with a two party system, so when one of the parties shows mounting evidence of mental instability, the entire country suffers. Like it or not, we need a rational, thinking repub party so that we can have adult conversations about the vital issues facing our nation, instead of insisting that one guy called the other guy a "poopyhead" (really? really???).
I completely agree. I also noticed that he set up the whole "we are justified in our voter suppression laws" thing in the beginning.
It's part of maintaining the fiction that deficits are because of Democratic spending, not unfunded tax cuts and wars.
There's more than enough fictions to go around regarding dems and spending. For example, we've heard for years that business does better under repubs, but all measures, from GDP to the stock market to corporate profits to job growth, show far better results under dems than repubs. Repubs accuse dems of being "tax and spend". Isn't that far better than what repubs do, which is borrow and spend? If repubs had done some tax and spend during the Bush administration, we'd still be looking at a budget surplus instead of a fiscal black hole.
If heads are to come out of the bubble the GOP would have to embrace facts and math. According to statistics (math!) the economy does better under Democrats than Republicans. Here is an article from fox business which stresses my point: http://www.foxbusiness.com/investing/2012/09/04/history-shows-markets-gdp-outperform-under-democrats/
Wake up and do the M-A-T-H...................................the old Bush rhetoric of "sometimes you just have to keep saying things over and over until they believe it" is going to fail now that the majority of the country is sticking with facts and making a decision to stay informed so as not to be fooled again.
That "Bush rhetoric" is just another variation on Goebbels' Big Lie: If you tell the lie often enough and loud enough, people will start believing it.
I am not equating Bush to Goebbels in any other way, but both felt you could promote lies to "truth", and both were involved in starting wars around it.
I see...Now that the Right has been Monday-morning-quarterbacked to death by its own legions whiners in denial, RedState has decided to be the voice of reason.
That's rich.
A cursory review of their posts in the last year will reveal the same conspiracy-laden bubble-induced insanity that got them into this mess in the first place...Birtherism, voter fraud (Democratic, of course), and other craziness runs rampant through their writings.
RedState and the Right ginned up controversy, but were left with delusion. Thanks, Erick, for your insightful revelations. It's almost like you're living in the real world.
Erickson has said a lot of really odious things over the years, but has spoken out against the birthers several times. There's a certain level of crazy that even he can't stand.
I think its wonderful that Erik (RedState) wants to join "the real world". But you know what they say - action speaks louder than words - so let's see what RedState starts publishing over the year that confirms that they want to be adults.
The GOTP is splintering, the delusion is obvious to some of them also, but they courted the religuluous and crazy, the dog whistles to racism & intolerance - so they will either have to split from them or do like you do with hysterical people - slap them hard across both cheeks - to calm them down. Of course the tea-potty crowd may require more slapping than most of the others in that party....
Kris:
You are correct - Erickson has maintained a no-birther policy at RedState...Except that he has a way of conflating the issues, so that he might say (I'm paraphrasing here) "Those birthers are so crazy, but..." and then goes on to defend some obscure aspect or point.
It just leads the crazies on...
Stopped clocks are right twice a day. I wonder what the second will be?
It is nice, however, to see a Georgian understand something of the past 150 years.
I would love to see the other draft where R/R won. Would he say then, that R/R won fair and square?
Good for you RedState.com...However, your timing reflects your lack of integrity and leadership.
"One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency." — Arnold Glasow
Erick Erickson and his RedState may be a bit too late - the slippery slope the Far Right has been on since the first African-American has occupied the White House may be too icy and steep to allow his fellowship the ability to crawl back up to solid ground where we all as Americans can dial down the crazy! (Not the non-crazies like us, but the crazies who have found haven under the Republican brand!)
Erickson's letter is encouraging even if prudence dictates more such change of thought and heart than simply his is much needed among the likes of McCain, Graham, Hannity, Boehner, Cantor and McConnell - and there lies the bugaboo! -Kevo
On another note: Secession.
I remember back in 2000, many were disappointed about the outcome, and considered leaving the U.S.
The tables were turned this time around.
The difference? From my observations, the Left talks about leaving a country that has abandoned their values. The Right talks about secession, breaking the union - They want to take their goodies and go. Losers don't get to do that.
That difference in attitude speaks broadly to which party considers themselves entitled to free stuff.
If only his words fell on people who had a computer and a full set of teeth.
A remarkably mature statement to have come from a conservative Repbublican.
If you leave the country every time your side loses an election, you'll run out of countries pretty soon. I say this as someone who has been on the losing political side much more often than on the winning side. Maybe we should borrow the British tradition of the party out of power calling itself the "loyal opposition"-- and meaning it.
Looks like it's time to compost the sour grapes. They've been out for a week, they are moldy. Not good for wine, just whine.
The Red State is not by any means on my reading list, but occasionally, there is some sanity.
Maybe T.P. folks are ready to abandon the Reps, as they are not going to do anything but what they always do. Use voters to get elected, then leave them hanging. Just a few Repubs will stand up for the T.P. at crucial time, but turn the other way and say, I have to vote for this subsidy for BP or whatever company is in their pocket. K Street is where to go.
Or here: http://www.alec.org/membership/legislative-membership/
We COULD have consensus on one issue there. They seem to bribe the elected folks, in reality. We can have consensus on solving deficit, if we stop yelling about Obama and say well, maybe the rich could pitch in and not JUST cut Gma's Medicare/SS.
We saw the money donated by Koch, Adelson, Trump didn't work out in THAT election investment. They are pissed and it's about money. Surely T.P. members are on SS and Medicare.
The truth lies in the folks that should wear their sponsors' logos on their lapels, if they can't wear a jumpsuit and cap plastered with them.

Gee, I wonder why there was SUCH an uproar over the XL Pipeline.
Could do some nonpartisan research and logic, but they got so many folks freaking out. Clear tactic, distraction.
I'm not anti business, but these people deserve some scrutiny. Bribing foreign countries and telling employees they better vote for Romney or else.
Trump ought to love government, they/we bailed him out 4 times with his bankruptcies.
Come on. Really.
Maybe the secessionist could try Romney's self-deportation policy.
I have to say that I am largely skeptical about this change of heart on the repubs side. Seems rather convenient and not so much sincere as a garnering of votes.
I couldn't resist clicking over to the site just to read some of the comments. They were a little tamer than I expected, but what I found most intriguing was the moderators responses to those who disagreed with Mr Erickson.
This was my favorite:
Ain't it a hoot? Instead of being to talk the Latinos into self deporting, by losing the election, Mitt has all the rednecks wanting to self deport. WIN-WIN!
I just saw a clip of i think Jimmy Swaggert idk a bible thumper. He was insinuating that the only reson President Obama defended Rice was because he was attracted to her.. OMG I am fed up with these wingnuts!!!!!!
And so is the rest of the country. The sane ppl that is.
Obama won this election by being truthful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romney lost because of lies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is our President, and like they use to say in my time, Take it or leave it!!!!!!!
And if you deside to leave it, then do so, in another country!!! LIKE IRAN. where if you object to their leader, they just KILL YOU!!!!!!!!
Democracy is held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority. Pathetic.
I’m a Texas Republican and I want to find out where to sign up to secede from America. I just have a couple of questions first.
If Texas becomes a country, that means we’ll only have one party, right? The Republicans. Right? That would be so cool. Then we don’t have to have anymore of those expensive, disruptive elections. We can just make our president President for Life. Maybe we could get Mr. Romney to come be our President for Life. But we’ll want someone born in Texas so I guess we couldn’t get him. Mr. Rick Perry is really, really smart and he really wants to be president. He’s governor so I guess he’s the smartest man and the logical man to make President for Life. But I want to see his birth certificate so I’m sure he’s a real Texan.
We won’t have to pay anymore taxes to the Federal Government, right? That’ll be really cool. Of course our new government won’t need any taxes because we won’t have any of that liberal crap like Medicaid or Medicare or Social Security. We will depend on the church to help out the poor so us people with money can spend our hard earned money exactly the way we want and the government can’t tell us how to spend it.
And speaking of churches, I think Born Again Christians should be the only ones allowed to be President for Life. That way, we can just use the Bible as our Constitution because those are the only laws anyway. So that means we can run those godless homasexuals back to liberal America on a rail. Since we don’t have anymore homasexuals, we won’t have to worry about tornadoes or hurricanes because God won’t bring destruction down on his sheep. So we don’t have to have any money for anything like a FEMA because we don’t have any homasexuals so God wouldn’t dare do anything to us because we are all Born Again Christians. On the outside chance something bad does happen, the Red Cross will come to help. That’s what they’re for. Will we make sure everyone is a Born Again Christian?
And while we’re at it, none of those Jews or Muslims need to hang around either. They’re creepy with those head scarves and stuff. And the Blacks can get out and go be with Obummer. They all voted for him anyway. Mexicans can self deport back to Mexico and quit taking our jobs because we’ll make sure their lives are so hard they’ll go running back over the border.
I guess most of the Democrats will move out of our country too since they don’t have any power here in our new country anyway. Good ridence to those bleeding heart @!$%#s. Who needs them. I guess they’ll take their businesses with them but I’m sure they don’t do anything very important.
We can attract new businesses to our country by not having any of those stupid environmental laws anymore. Those scientists make all that crap about global warming up just to scare us. We’ll let new companies dump their waste into our rivers and anywhere they want. It’ll all get washed downstream then it’ll be someone else’s problem but I don’t believe it hurts the environment at all anyway. Then there’ll be lots of jobs with 100% employment and none of the welfare bitches with their snot nosed brats will be allowed will be allowed to lie around.
I don’t want to have a minimum wage law either. A couple of bucks an hour is more than enough and we can get any Blacks or Mexicans that stay here to do those jobs. They’ll be glad to get the work. But almost all the women will be married so their husbands can take care of them. They should pay for their brats education too. No more free education because my kids are grown so why do I have to pay for other people’s brats. Right?
No more Lame Stream Media either. We’ll have our own news network so we get all the truth all the time. I think it should be called “Truth In Texas”. That way we get all the unbiased news directly from the T.I.T. Everyone will be required to subscribe so everyone is equally informed. That way no one will try to start another media outlet because no one will believe them anyway since they get everything they need directly from the T.I.T. which only tells the truth all the time. It’s exactly what we want to hear. If anyone is offended by an article, we’ll have the Anti-Smut Society where people can lodge complaints. That’ll make it free speech. If something in T.I.T. offends you, you can call your A.S.S. representative. Our good ol’ President will be in charge so we’re sure to hear the absolute truth.
I think we should invade Iran right away too. That way our oil will cost a lot more and we can sell it to America or the highest bidder because we have so much and if we take Iran’s oil from them, we can sell that to Europe and that’ll pay for everything we need. We’ll have to hurry so Obummer doesn’t take away all our guns which is high on his agenda.
We’ve already got all the roads we need but we’ll probably have to close our borders so no liberal Americans or Mexicans looking for our jobs can get in. We’ll put up a great big fence all the way around the country and maybe dig a moat with alligators too.
Now we can privatize everything. That’ll help create jobs. People can call “Cops R Us” or “Firetrucks and Things” if they have emergencies. It’ll be a pay as you go system. I think about $40.00 sounds about right for an emergency call. People outside the big cities might have some trouble getting emergency services out in rural areas because those companies won’t be able to turn a profit but when we secede and become our own country, we can maybe figure that out.
No Obummer care for us. We’ll give the insurance companies free reign to set fair premiums. Capitalism will go unfettered and everything will be the lowest price possible. The insurance companies are honest and won’t try to gouge us or drop us or refuse us if we have a preexisting condition.
Oh, and one last thing. We won’t have to be part of Super Bowl or any of those other sports teams. We’ll have our own teams and they can play each other. That way there’ll always be a winning Texas team that we can be proud of.
So that’s all I need to know. Ours is going to be the greatest nation on earth and America can go down the tubes for all we care. They’ll be sorry they messed with us! Right? Right?
Loved it, Jim!!
Brilliant!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a plan...but, before you go, please tell those of us left in the union: will the nation of Texas be asking for foreign aid?
Excellent satire!
Carlin-esque. A star is born.
You forgot that the churches will need dependable cash flows to provide all of that charity. Could I suggest government collected tithes that are then distributed to only those churches with state approved doctrine. This is the way the original colonies worked before that stupid Constitution stuff. Please note that tithes (which would be 10% on everyone - a flat tithe ) are NOT taxes any more than tipping your doctor, emergency responder or local politician for prompt service.
Here is the missing link for any wishing leave the USA.

p.s. Good one Jim !
Excellent.
