No Scott Walker is considering NOT allowing people to register at the polls on election day. We already have same day voter registration but he wants to take that away..because it is too much work for our clerks. What a crock!
OMG I messed that up. I deleted the key word in my rewrite process! Thanks for the catch. It's fixed above!
Not being the "party of stupid" should include not being the party of lies and voter suppression. Disregarding facts and evidence is one of the things that makes "the party of stupid" STUPID. Gov. Walker implies, without actually saying it, that voter fraud occurs during same day registration, because he knows that all the available facts and evidence shows this to be patently false. He disguises his lies as patronizing concern for the poll volunteers, just like forced birth advocates disguise their violent intrusiveness as "compassion" for a glob of cells. That Democratic voter suppression is his motive for eliminating same day registration is beyond cavil. Some camera may catch him admitting as much when he thinks he's off mic.
If he succeeds, triggering the motor-voter statute, expect budget cuts and layoffs for the state motor vehicle agency, as well as all the hurdles the federal statute doesn't explicitly prohibit the state from introducing into the procedure. There will be fewer people to handle the deliberately complicated motor-voter registration procedure, and Walker and his ilk will just shrug and say that states have to deal with budget and registration problems as best they can, without federal intervention.
Hey Gov Walker .... nothing like getting an early start on next years Christmas ... I mean election .. huh ? Got two words for ya .... "Ding ..... Bat" !!!!!!!!!!!
So now Allen West's arrogance has cost him his military and political career. Perhaps his loss due to a lack of humility and unwillingness to compromise will be a cautionary tale to a few of his tea-party peers. One can hope.
I so wish Hilary Clinton would NOT go to Gaza!! This is just getting the US more and more involved in that conflict. We can't solve it - we've tried in the past. Israel and the Hamas have to solve it on their own.
If Richard Engel is right, this conflict is just a prelude for a much larger conflict that will include Iran. Do MORE American soldiers have to die in the Middle East? And for what?
Raise your hand if you are going to miss Allen West ? Come on someone, anyone there has to be a single one of you :) Can't wait to see West come out and say "The Communist Won" Ha Ha
There are news articles stating that this latest conflict was started by Israel but our leading news sources are not admitting this. Why? Look at these statements and the links that are their sources "Israel launched an air offensive." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/nov/17/obama-egypt-turkey-gaza Also Stephen M. Walt stated in Foreign Policy Thursday, November 15, 2012 "First, the similarities to Operation Cast Lead (the Israeli assault on Gaza in 2008-09) are of course obvious. In both cases, the attacks occurred shortly after a U.S. presidential election. In both cases, a period of rough truce was initially broken by Israel, triggering a Palestinian response, and then leading to an overwhelming Israeli counterattack justified by the need to "restore deterrence." In both cases there doesn't appear to be a clear Israeli strategy, in the sense of any justifiable political objectives."

It doesn't really matter who fired the first shot....the sporadic rocket attacks and Israeli retaliation is totally futile and pointless. What does Hamas get by lobbing a few rockets into Israel? Are they going to bring the country down so they can invade it?? C'mon, the rocket attacks do nothing but antagonize the Israelis, in the hope that someone, somewhere in the world will jump in on the side of the Palestinians and take on Israel. It simply isn't going to happen. As for the Israelis, they've had 65 years to learn the simple fact that killing lots and lots of Palestinians doesn't stop the Palestinians from existing and fighting back. It didn't stop the Jews who fought to get their own homeland, even when it meant turning to terrorism to get their way. As long as both sides operate on the foolish premise that they can kill their way to peace, nothing will ever change. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be enough brave people on either side to point this inconvenient fact out and get the point across.
What is a good day? A good day is when Allen West concedes.
Looks like NASA found my dang keys! I knew I lost them during my last trip to Mars.
Please, Rachel et al., what is the latest news from Arizona? We're not getting any news of in our local media and every other program seems to have forgotten it.
So what's the problem with registering ahead of time? I'm against supression but until this year, I never heard of same day registration.
Good for you responsible citizen - for registering in a timely manner. But EVERY American should be able to cast a ballot - even if that means walking into your local polling place on the day of any election and voting. All I would expect is that they show that they live in that district and are an American citizen and vote.
If Allen West was going to be my congressman it was going to be more like living in District 9, the movie with all the aliens. Now that West finally conceded, I feel like this is an important an indication of the new direction of the country as the states that legalized Gay Marriage & Marijuana. Once you get outside West Palm Beach, this area is a big Republican stronghold. I've been seeing "2012 - End Of An Error" bumperstickers everywhere since 2009!Also a lot of trucks with Dixie Flag bumperstickers & gun racks. The name of the only cafe in Indiantown is "Crackers" & that isn't because they specialize in homemade Saltines! I have 3 more years before I can retire and move back home to San Francisco & this is going to make it a lot easier to get through. Congratualtions to my new congressman, Patrick Murphy!!
I left off the first few sentences of My Allen West post: I woke up 6 months ago and there was Allen West signs all over town. I realized I was now in District 18 and Allen West was probably going to be my new congressman! I donated what I could afford each month to Patrick Murphy, but it seemed almost impossible that he could win. (continued above) -
