John McCain is the voice for GOP hypocrisy.
Someone has to be their spokesman! He's willing!
From bestowing citizenship on a zygote, to endowing a legal corporation with the same set of rights, has given the Hard Right new ways to polarize thinking. This I think as I may or may understand to incite people and their beliefs (whether God or Mammon) to join the fight against the inordinate expenditure of the average citizens tax dollar and the Carpetbagging elite a new way to get more cash. All the while the "white power" stays in the hands of a few old mostly Anglo Saxon men.
The faux mantra of Conservative spending vs. Liberal spending is insidious..
They actually saw the demographics were morphing against them years ago and began scheming and gerry-rigging the system to stay in power. The Plantation mentality is still strong in more than a few Republicans (perhaps some Democrats) across this nation. I grew up with it and I am glad to see it go.
With President Obama's first election the Right could not believe they no longer had the power of "the whip" in their hands. I honestly believed it would never happen! Whew, what a relief the country is changing for the better.
No more hiding undocumented aliens to work on farms for low pay and then housed in squalor. It was happening here in Western Mass just recently and was shut down by the State.
I am proud of our President to have the courage to believe in the principles of our Constitution and he trying to undo the rigging of the game against those whose voices, rights and very lives have been marginalized since after the Civil War. Immigrants, women and children.
Thanks for being there Rachel I have learned a great deal from you!
Hello Rachel I watch you every evening and I love your show. What your doing to shine light on what Congress is doing or what's going on in each state is awesome. I wanted to shine a light on something that has happened in our state that I think you all may not know about. They put on the ballet to take away affirmative action in our state. It passed and I would like for you to shine a big light on it PLEASE. the way they have been wording things on the ballets are making people vote yse when they should be voting no. I am tired of what is going on and I was hoping that you could help and ask our GOP leaders why they feel that it's ok to dowhat they feel like doing to suit them.
Thank you Rachel for doing what you do. Much love!
Watching Jay Carney this morning I'm struck by the balanced approach meme. The deficit is $1trillion+ while the tax hike on the rich gets you $50-60 billion. Spending cuts will likely be zero.
In short... balance is impossible, and the tax hikes are just retribution on the wealthy for the sins of being successful.
Re: #4
Will increased revenue from the rich solve the entire problem? No. And nobody is saying it will.
Everyone except for the wealthy and especially the super-wealthy have paid a heavy price since 2007 (when the Great Recession started). Looking back further, this includes stagnant wages and good-paying jobs disappearing off-shore that has been going on for decades.
Cost-cutting measures that have already been taken since 2009 have only added to this list.
Do we need to cut more? Yes. Do we need to make changes in Medicare, Medicaid and eventually SS? Yes. Will this affect the wealthy and especially the super-wealthy? No.
It's like we are all in a big ship that is sinking. Most of us are down close to the water. We are being asked to throw stuff overboard, even though we barely have enough to survive. Meanwhile the rich people are way up there having banquets and staying in fancy cabins. These people not only don't want to throw anything overboard - but seem to think they need MORE!
We need to fix the holes in the ship. But if the ship goes down, we ALL go down. It will just longer for the rich to hit the water.
What cost cutting measures?
Maphi, no matter what metaphors you use the bottom line is "Gimmee!. You are claiming the right to take other people's property for the sole reason that they have more than you. Really?
These people didn't take anything from you. They already pay most of the income tax. Greed isn't wanting to keep more of what one earns, greed is coveting those earnings for yourself. I expected more from you.
If Susan Rice were vindictive, she could probably bury McCain, Graham and Ayotte for their little news conference and the comments that they made. Before all is said and done, it may turn out that they need Susan Rice more than she needs them.
Where did this myth that polonium-210 is a rare, man-made isotope come from?
Not only does it occur naturally, it's the most commonly occurring isotope by multiple orders of magnitude![1] Furthermore it is part of the radium-226 decay chain, which is important because it includes the gas radon-222. Anywhere that has a radon gas problem has polonium-210 in the dust, (as well as radioactive lead-210 and stable lead-206).
Of course, after eight years you probably aren't going to find any polonium used as a poison: 99.99999% of it is gone. OTOH, if there has been radon getting into things there will be a supply of longer lived lead-210 producing more polonium-210.
[1] While other isotopes occur naturally, the longest lived is polonium-218 with a half-life of about three minutes and the rest are under a second.
