Look who won Florida for Obama.
The National Review joins the call to end the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll.
That's one way to decide an election.
Jeb Bush, education reformer.
A fascinating look at mail-order conservatism. (h/t: Kevin Drum)

Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall in the meetings with McCain/Ayotte/Graham and Rice/Morell today. It could be...interesting.
we must stop the move toward ANY for profit entities in "education reform" Rachel please have Professional educators on your show, EXPOSE the outrageous "privatization" of our Public schools....privatizing the cafeteria, privatizing the bussing little by little, things that start out showing a financial savings are DRAINING our education dollars....put the money BACK in the classroom
As a teacher what I see as the biggest black hole in a school's budget is technology. That word is a crazy catch all for everything form light bulbs to particle accelerators. My particular beef is calculators, computers, and software updates. Calculators should not be available to students until they can complete the task on paper. ( I have tutored high school graduates that can't add 2 single digit numbers without a calculator because they have never had to do math without one. In my opinion failure to actually develop a students intellectual processes of logic and concept of quantity is criminal. I have said so to Math department chairs.) Computers are high priced crack. Gates and Jobs gave computers to schools in the 80's and now school districts are forced by federal mandate to maintain updates in hardware and software. Give them a taste and make them pay when they're hooked is standard practice for drug pushers and I feel the analogy holds. What our students learn by using computers in school is to buy computers. The exact outcome Microsoft, Intel and Apple were looking for. Training an ever renewing supply of consumers for their products. We need education not indoctrination. Look the words up and you will see the distinction in learning methodology. We need to produce graduates that can think logically, exist self sufficiently in American society, and who have the tools to learn new skills as needed.
I pray President Obama does not bargain away our safety net and make his name synonymous with Clarence Thomas that would be a horrible curse.
It would be great to hear from Rick Perlstein on the show this week. His piece on the growing culture of lies was fascinating.
Indeed. Caution: I should have been working but I read the whole thing instead -- just couldn't stop. Perlstein is a great writer and quite convincing.
When that mail-order conservatism article first came out, I linked to it in several places.
And that's something I hope becomes so obvious to this year's crop of billionaire donors that they demand audits.
Please, TRMS, take this story and run with it!
I'd like see what's left of Point Pleasant, please. The storm destroyed the live cam. Is there any Boardwalk left. Can you video tape it and show us tonight on the Rachel Show?I would be happier if I could see something beautiful that wasn't destroyed. I turned down a job on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. Seaside Heights is where the bikers all would meet, Yes The Hells' Angels. I can still hear "Jumping Jack Flash" everytime I think about it. Wearing see-through blouses was the bomb. Cindy would get sun burned and I got sun poisoning, she didn't like the jelly-fish game, the boys liked to play that game. You shouldn't wear T-shirts in the ocean, it's harder to get the jelly fish out from under them. I love reminising(that's probably spelled wrong. I got most of my movie star pictures cards from Lavelette. I hope when they build it back up, they can make an exact replica of the Boardwalks, the way they looked in the 60's. If they can do that they will get thousands of tourists. Wildwood had the nicest ocean, except during the red tide. You could go way out walking, all the while on soft sand. And it was one of the only beaches that were free. The best rides and the never ending boardwalk. I didn't like Atlantic City because of The steel pier. Making a horse jump into a pool of water is gross negligence. I guess I just threw up a bunch of great memories.
Rachel, I must admit you took the wind out of my sail last night. It was very disappointing to hear that the chances of big changes coming from a second Obama term are unlikely...How can we help change history?
I am very disappointed in the statement that the campaign volunteers/supporters went away in 2009. As part of Obama's Army and OFA (Organizing for America) myself and thousands of others worked many long hours, made tons of phone calls, wrote letters to newspaper editors, and sent many emails in order to get the Affordable Healthcare Act passed. It took us 18 months and we suffered many disappointments (no public option, single payer not on the table), but we felt like we got it done.
Another thing happened in the process. Many of us became disillusioned about the political process. We realized that both sides of the aisle listen to the lobbyists. It nearly destroyed us when a Democrat senator boasted he had "killed the public option". The bill we got was not the bill we had hoped for.
It took us months of licking our wounds and coming to the realization that what we accomplished was truly historic. We also figured out that future amendments could make it better. Then, when the Republicans said their first priority was to get rid of it we realized we had to stop sulking and get busy or all our hard work would go to waste. Once energized, all that training came in handy in helping with the election. Give us a little breather and we will be there again for our country and for our President.
In re. under-30s winning the state for Obama:
The state repuglikkklan party has announced support for a cap on 4-year college tuition at $10,000.00.
Next they'll change their mascot to the Pander Bear.
I'm sure you guys have seen this Mallory Owens beating/hate crime story in Alabama, but making doubly sure.

Are you going to comment on the resurrection of the "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda?
Can't make this stuff up:
Police investigating shredded Romney documents used as Macy's parade confetti.
