Here's an easy way to remember the Republican party's commitment to diversity:
Of the 19 committee chairs chosen by House Republicans thus far, all 19 are white men!
There are two chairmanships still open for the next session of Congress. House Speaker John Boehner will appoint someone to head the Ethics Committee and the Committee on House Administration at a later date.
But before anyone gets their hopes up too high for a woman to fill the top post, there are currently no Republican women serving on either of those committees. Any woman who is given the chairmanship would come in cold, without the experience of having served on that committee.
In contrast, House Democrats are likely to have six women as ranking members on committees including Appropriations, Rules, Financial Services, Science and Small Business.
And while Democrats are gaining women in their ranks, Republicans are losing them. The overall number of Republican women serving in the House will drop from 24 to 19 at the start of the 113th Congress, which begs the question: where are the binders full of women?
Update:
NBC News has learned that Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will be named chair of the House Administration Committee. Miller did not serve on the committee during the 112th Congress.

MSNBC, you should use gender neutral designations. We no longer say "chairman" or "chairwoman." We say "chairperson." That can apply to a man or a woman. The title: "House Committee Chairmen" is absurd. You should say "Housse Committee Chairpersons."

Why is Paul Ryan a head of a committee? Isn't there a limit on how many times a congressman can be the head of a committee?
And didn't he do squat the last time?
He was given an exemption from that rule by Boehner.
So he can continue to do squat next time.
In Paul Ryan's defense, I think that px90 (or whatever) workout includes squats. His Brilliancy thinks he is supposed to do bicep and ab in the gym and do squat in the committee room. Makes perfect sense.

I find it troubling that you picked on Issa by inferring that he was not quite "White" because of his Lebanese relatives. I would be curious to see your criteria in this determination; is there a list? It speaks to our culture's (perhaps our species) obsession with questions of race and other forms of tribalism that even good people like yourself (I am a big fan by the way) can fall into the trap of deciding where the sharp lines are in the fuzzy expanse between all these invented categories.

Sunita, that is an interesting point, but does anyone, at this late date, really think that Rape-Public-CONs take seriously either Ethics or the Administration of the House (or any other part of government, for that matter)?
For them, putting a woman in those positions "cold" would perfectly suit their purposes, in more ways than one... not that I'd be surprised if they still didn't do it - for a Party that doesn't seem to take anyone's interests but their own to heart, they have a fascinating talent for acting against their own best interests from the grassroots up.

A lot of women have gotten divorced because of control freak husbands. Why in the World would we want men with extreme control issues preaching to women and waving the probe around like it was some kind of an extension of their manhood, their weapons are shooting rubber bullets.
