One-Party Control Opens States to Partisan Rush
well we shall see just which states move ahead and which ones will just slow down and fall behind. thinking being in an all blue state we will have to pay more for the all red states.
Quite so. Conservatives are looking forward to seeing how many ways California can do itself in.
Yay! No stories today on the ritual beating of a female diplomat.
Yay! My wife and I vote for pinko commies every chance we get. We take this as a sure sign RM is ready for a Senate run should Kerry step up for DOD elsewhere in the Obama cabinet. Come on Rachel... Think of what it would be like to work with Maria, Bernie, Sherrod, Jeff Merkley and all the other great Senators.
Maria is so so cool- That was such a kick ass segment on gas price manipulation. I hope this will not dissuade Exxon from their goal of keeping me educated on how much they are doing for the environment and the economy during the TRMS commercial breaks.
McCullough gave testimony in Sacremento. The oil companies do understand about supermajorities, right? They can put in their own fuel reserve to buffer these price shocks if they want, and no one in the GOP can stop them. Not even accusations that such market intervention would make them pinko commies.
Much as I would love to have more people with the energy and intellect of Rachel Maddow in our Senate, I'd hate to lose what she provides in her current role. Where else can you find such erudite, sensible, relevant and cogent explanations of current events?
I believe that people who speak up, loudly and often, are invaluable to our government of, by and for the people. Think of it as an incubator, seeding the entire country, for Elizabeth Warren wannabes.
;-)
The second there is a hint Warren will run for President, I shall be there behind her. This does not mean that I am not aware of her weaknesses. It is a rare talent when charisma, intellectual acuity, and a positive attitude about progress all co-locate in a single individual. RM has all those characteristics and more. Her capacity to explain in a way that disarms her opponents and charms those who may be uncertain of her intentions is remarkable. She has the capacity leverage her media strengths to massive political advantage as Reagan did. I do not think many realize what a political diamond lays before them in full view...
It is an uphill fight at this point so you need not be too concerned. The fact is that Maddow has often been asked at book promotions whether she has an interest in public office. Her response is always an emphatic No.
I don't care. I think she has a duty to enter public life and one day become our President.
.
No. I am not kidding, and I am not going to give up making the case. She is a reasonable person, and eventually the truth will overcome her self effacing sentiments about her potential.
Never underestimate the Silent minorities, which could blow some of these supermajorities right out of the water and into the tarmac.
Thus far the courts have been alert to the power grab. With less chance of a conservative appointee to SCOTUS it is possible that some of the personhood legislation will wither since it is less likely to be used to change Roe v Wade. Jindal's money grab for privatization of public school funding was stopped for now. As long as people are vigilant and stand up for what is right and decent we can outlast the teabaggers and whoever is next.
Finally some good news!!!!! Go Governor Walker! Public Unions are the blood suckers of the Government. It is about time they were reined in. As a member of a Public sector union, I am well aware of the waste that we cause. We have full time employees doing full time union work. Absolutely disgusting. Unions had a good place in history, but their time of power is coming to an end.
Perhaps some of these good Wisc. union workers will be on Walker's jury.
A little while back the Saudie king/whatever said that 1/4 of the price of oil went to speculators. We pay wall street traders almost a buck a gallon for what? Seeing a bottle neck/monopoly coming in whatever commodity? Then we let investment banks leverage 140 to 1 on their bets, how can they not own everything? Right now they own 1/4 (?) of the world...
I saw an interview on Chris Hayes' show last spring with a person who follows the energy industry. He explained that, with interest rates low, real estate in the tank and the stock market uncertain, the one place that speculators were bound to make a profit was in the oil futures market.
It was simple. Demand, thanks to the rising incomes in China and India and the ongoing needs to fuel vehicles in the war in Afghanistan and anywhere the military has a presence, would remain strong. Buying when there was a dip in the price and selling on the surges was a gold mine.
And guess who is heavily involved in oil speculation? Three guesses, but if you want a sure bet, two of them would be Charles and David Koch. Really.
WHAT is the point of posting links to old news? If you want to make connections with past events how about indicating that in the links themselves? It's damned frustrating to waste my time and energy looking at old articles.
Californians are understanding and kind but once we find you have rubbed our noses in it, best beware, we are not that forgiving. We will be going after those oil companies big time for lying.
With my finally, new job I miss out on Rachel's first show but at least I get the re-run at 1 AM.
The 'Fiscal Cliff' talks are going nowhere. Now Obama is feeling feisty. He has been energized not only by victory, but also by returning to his comfort zone: campaign-style events in which he’s touted his tax hikes on the wealthy and attacks the Republicans to adoring hand-picked crowds.
Obama’s proposal for resolving the ‘Fiscal Cliff’? $1.6 Trillion in Tax hikes, extension of unemployment benefits that already exceeded any previous coverage, a “permanent” ability to raise the debt ceiling, independent of Congress and Obama is also demanding a new $50 billion stimulus program.
There was no significant effort to rein in our bloated spending.
Obama appears very confident that if the budget talks fail, Republicans in the House will attract most of the blame. That may be, but he should remember that his own approval ratings collapsed to an all-time low in the aftermath of the failed debt ceiling negotiations last year. Maddow and the rest of the MSNBC crew as well as the liberals who post here will of course blame the Republicans. But it is you who reelected the incompetent failure we have in the White House. If America has a financial meltdown you will have no one to blame except yourselves!
Obama 23
Obama is their shepherd; they shall not be in want. He makes
them lie down in the ghettos, he leads them to the welfare and food stamp
lines, and he takes their soul. He guides them in paths of a welfare lifestyle
for his name’s sake as the President of Welfare America. Even though they walk
through the ghetto of the shadow of death, they will fear no evil, for he is
with them; his rod and your staff, they beat me as the slave I am to the
government. You prepare a table before me filled with the food bought with my
food stamps in the presence of his enemy, the working class Americans. We
anointed his head with oil; their cup overflows. Surely welfare, government
housing and food stamps will follow me all the days of my life as I refuse to
work, and they will live in the house of the ghettos forever.
WTF!
There is only one true church.....the Church of the Flying Spagetti Monster.....the rest are false prophets stealing your money & your soul....join our congregation & gaze upon his awesome noodleyness
That link to the article about Gov. Walker signing a bill to restrict public employees' union rights? It's a year and a half old... Huh?
The refineries etc.
Oil companies can make as much money as they want, manipulating the market like this just to get a few more bucks would be too risky. If they need more money than they should be getting, they send an email to the WH (if a republican is in charge at least).
High oil prices under Obama, during an election year, would certainly help GOP getting back into the WH.
Or?
I know you hate conspiracy theories...
