If a video like this one seems familiar, it's because this is exactly the sort of clip Obama for America routinely released in the weeks and months leading up to Election Day. Yesterday, however, the same campaign organization put this clip online for President Obama's new fight.
For those who can't watch clips online, the point of this two-minute video is to reinforce the fact that the president campaigned heavily on the idea of raising tax rates on income above $250,000, and the proposal proved to be pretty popular. It also reminds folks that the typical middle-class family would stand to lose about $2,000 a year if congressional Republicans block Obama's plan, which has already passed the Senate.
And while the video is interesting, I'm nearly as interested in its existence as I am its message. As we talked about a week ago, Team Obama is hoping to approach the second term very differently from the first, and that's especially true of dealing with Congress. A year ago, for example, during debt-reduction talks, Obama stayed in Washington, met repeatedly with congressional leaders, and made every effort to reach some kind of credible agreement with Republican lawmakers who were threatening to crash the American economy on purpose unless their demands were met.
A resolution was reached in time, but not before significant damage was done.
This time, the president is trying the opposite -- taking a new negotiating posture, hosting public events outside the Beltway, and utilizing his campaign structure in the hopes of shifting public attitudes.
Given that Republican leaders seem largely immune to pressure from the electorate, time will tell whether the efforts pay dividends, but Obama re-engaging his campaign base is still a dynamic worth watching, not just during fiscal talks, but in the president's second term.

Its not just the President that needs to engage, Americans need to be awaken and engaged in the political process! President Obama using the "bully pulpit" is exactly how to re-engage Americans back into our political process! Stop pretending that it's always the democrats that need to give in to the unreasonable demands/whines/bs coming from the right! Stop with the false equivalences! And if WE actually had more than a corporate owned media that actually told the truth and informed the American people about the issues instead of parroting the talking points maybe more Americans wouldn't be so confused!!
Great Zora
Also , Check this out people , send a message to CBS news for their recent biased coverage on the issue , if they get enough emails and calls , they go into corporate panic , tell them we have had enough of this folks

CEO Evening News?
CBS turns to benefit-cutting bosses for 'fiscal cliff' commentary
On November 19, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein was tapped for his apparent expertise in long-term budget forecasting.
The following night, anchor Scott Pelley had a new expert: Honeywell CEO David Cote
On November 21, CBS Evening Newswas still on the case. The experts this time were, as anchor Jeff Glor put it, "two men who say they know how it should be done--if only Washington would listen." The two are Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson,
Both are co-founders of the corporate-backed "Fix the Debt" campaign.
That was followed on the broadcast by another segment with Goldman Sachs' Blankfein
All of the CBS fiscal experts featured last week were affiliated with this ( FIX THE DEBT ) group.
So much for the OBAMA LIBERAL MEDIA , huh trolls?
Zora, Good post. It is time the American people woke up to the fact that if they don't put the pressure on, nothing will get done. I don't know what it will take to get Boehner's caucus to agree to anything. In fact, I doubt they will. They care about nothing but the rich donors who put them in there to obstruct Obama. Their constituents mean nothing to them, as clearly they aren't all in the upper 1 or 2 % of the income bracket and would benefit from having their taxes lowered. Still, they won't agree to that because they're protecting their wealthy donors.
I am pretty darn sure we must go over the cliff to get those Bush taxes raised on the upper 2%. The T-party is intractable.
As for Obama, none of the three safety nets should be in the discussion. I will be furious with him if he gives an inch to these "terrorists".
$2000.00 is a fair amount of money to the average person. Problem is, to Grover and the Koch brothers, it's chump change.
More like pocket lint -- if that.
Let's rephrase that:
2010: We declined to use Organizing for America techniques to persuade the electorate that the GOP candidates running for office were exceptionally out of touch. So progressives don't show up for the mid terms and we get slaughtered. Nancy gets swept from power, and the GOP takes control of state governments who use gerrymandering and control of election administration to manipulate future campaigns.
2012: We declined to use Organizing for America techniques to persuade the electorate that the GOP representatives were placing votes contrary to policies that are wildly popular in their district. Dems fail to retake the House and now we are treated to Boehner's obstructionism.
2014: No one. No one is contacting progressives about the strategy for retaking the House using OFA style nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile the president attempts to engage the Right with a Cub Scout civics strategy of "pressuring congress". How quaint. Is there any limit to how antiquarian this is going to get? Is the next step to dust off the Presidential Railroad car and go on a whistlestop tours of the midwest giving Truman like speeches about the do nothing congress?
.
Minus any dramatic new initiative like OFA style congressional district organizing in the 60 winnable races, what is the DNC proposition as described above? We declined to persuade voters in these districts, so we concede their GOP representatives are invulnerable. They are not sensitive to votes, so therefore they will be sensitive to letters? Someone please walk me through that "logic".
IMHO, the only way to get a legislator malleable is to make them fear for their survival in the next election. By failing to make them pay for their extremism, they are only further emboldened, and even more unmoved by public protest from those that disagree with them.
I may not have any experience with public politics, but in corporate politics, the actors employing this kind of thinking wouldn't last more than a few weeks.
John , I see this as an over all strategy that goes with what you are presenting , how many choices do obama and the dems really have after all? Engage your supporters and the public in what is happening , and force the media to cover it
We have seen this scenario too many times , the dunderhead party presents only rehashed dysfunctional solutions , the media ( and the dems ) give them cover , then in 2 weeks the talking points favor the gop , and they are trashing any thing the dems put forth ....Right now we are actively engaging the misinformation , and takng control of the narrative , other wise it is running us over like a truck ....
The romney campaign should have taught all dems at least one thing , the media will not only give a pass to every romney lie told , but they will turn around and present it as fact the next day
Dems have till christmas to launch verbal grenades at every gop politician , and media talking head , and blow up every false talking point on these issues , TPOTUS is going on the front lines , not going in the back room and making bad deals , god bless him and the U S of A baby!!!!!
I don't see an overall strategy because I don't see the deployment of a ground game for 2014. I don't think I communicated very well the way I anticipated the operation, because I think it is clear they have a very real choice that they are not availing themselves of.
Let's call this hypothetical organization I am describing as PFA- Progressives for America (PFA)- it is formed of organizers recruited from OFA. In each of the 60 districts that RealClearPolitics identified as leans Gop, Tossup, and leans Dem, PFA sets up offices. Software is modified and the voter database is sectioned off. Emails go out about the activities of the GOP incumbent. These may echo the President's requests for letters to congresspeople, but it makes particular note of the votes and comments by their GOP legislator which are selected as particularly embarassing or difficult for the incumbent to justify. PFA portrays itself as a direct democracy operation, going around door knockign asking residents how they feel about a measure that their representative is about to vote on in committee or on the floor. PFA sends in the signatures and then touches back with the people after the congressman makes the vote contrary to what the electorate requested of their representative.
The district electorate sees, drop by drop that it is not all of congress that is the problem. It is their particular representative that is the problem. This way, PFA does not have to know who the Dem candidate will be, or take sides in the Dem primary. They are doing all the opposition research portion.
For districts where PFA is defending an incumbent, they are running a defensive campaign against likely challengers painting them as extremists even before they enter the GOP primaries. By the time the mid terms roll around, they are well aware of the threat of a repeat of 2010, and are strongly motivated to show up and vote for the dem incumbent.
The PFA organization is run through a local office with local volunteers, but the national organization of volunteers is tapped to conduct phone banking into the district, to providing funding for the Restore Nancy 2014 campaign, and to use social media to give positive strokes- reminders to the voters in the district, who may be their friends or relatives.
It is nuclear warfare.
By the way, this strategy will have much more impact than letter writing, because the politician knows the source of the petitions, district polls, and town hall rallies in favor of presidential initiatives. They see the knife pointed at their throats because they know these voters in their district will not forget to vote in 2014.
PFA won't let them forget either how the GOP candidate voted, or when and where they need to early vote, that they need to mail in vote, and failing that, they will be calling and sending emails to remind them of to vote.
------ Notes---
Link to the maps for the 60 states, and further ideas about how this PFA's leadership might be composed- and arguments why it is not directly controlled by DNC or POTUS, may be found in this TRMS post from last week.
Interesting, but what the President is doing now, I believe, is just what Patango mentioned - getting the Democrats' position publicized and keeping it in the public's eye. Relying on the MSM isn't going to do that, as what happened in 2010 clearly showed.
However, the MSM will report on what the President says and does and right now that's what needs to be done. Any pressure on Republicans in Congress will come less from direct action by their respective constituents and more from knowing the public is, this time, being kept informed.
The President offered his proposal, the Republicans counter with their wish list. The MSM isn't going to explain to their viewers/readers that there isn't really anything to the Republican "offer". So the President, aided by OfA, is going to have to do that explaining; he's going to have to keep what's at stake in front of the public.
Republicans don't do "public"; because what Republicans do, the public doesn't like.
Be serious.
If there were 10,000 people at the steps of the capitol, Boehner would laugh it off.
If there were 200,000 people, do you think Boehner would cave in? Hell no. He would call for counter demonstrations, claiming there are millions who would show up, but they have real jobs and can't get away for a "publicity stunt".
By all means, the President is entitled to offer the other side the opportunity to back down in the face of public opposition.
But there is nothing- Nothing- No scrap of evidence to suggest that his caucus will back down.
They are fanatics. But this is not an expression of the politics of despair, because the "advisory votes" from the legislator's district is an expression of direct democracy. So there is no harm in pursuing a dual strategy- one that puts the plausible threat of an electoral bullet in the chamber if these vulnerable congresspeople choose to ignore the advisory votes, the letters, the town hall meetings held in absentia...
That's the muscle behind the kind of offers that don't get refused.
Advertising and reminding that he was the one that brought you 47 Million Americans on Foodstamps and Free Medical Benefits for illegals and deadbeats as well as Obamaphones. And now.... the ONLY way to keep these goodies is to make these mean Republicans bend over for tax increases on business owners is a GREAT idea. EVERYBODY will love it! Call your Congressman and TELL HIM YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR FREE STUFF TODAY!
Still refuse to read the news, eh? Or catch on the truth? Same 'ole, same 'ole and incorrect. That goes for the rest of the talking points of your *far* right-wing fringe con-servative post.
What is it with trolls and their fixations on oral and anal sex?
If you're asking me, I don't know, Doug. <s> I always get the keeps when Norquist talks about "impure thoughts".
Loved it yesterday on Meet the Press when that stock market watcher on CNBC asked Grover Norquist "What is this impure thoughts thing? Some kind of political porn?" He nailed what it was that was creeping me out.
I'm glad to see Obama on the road and his full plan is online. As usual, these trolls have posted nothing based in fact. Until the President has a reason to go back to DC (like the r/tp's *do* their job and it's *not* following Grover's "thoughts"), he's where he should be......telling the people who want to hear and understand what's going on.
I would LOVE to "see him on the road"...just ONCE. And REALLY, Norquist holds WHAT elected position? So to equate him as a Politician is basically ignorant...he is nothing more than a private citizen. But Hey...Fixate away...
rule 34
I keep asking that question too. He sure has the r/tp's in Congress whipped.
Fixate, Scottie? *You* mentioned that? Really??? <ROFLMHO>
David Brookes, during his weekly appearance on NPR with EJ Dionne last friday, repeatedly referred to Obama's "on-the-road" approach as a circus, as circus politics.
Has he not been a regular observer of the House these last couple years?
I think the road trip will drive home the fact that the administration has made it's offer, and is waiting for the GOP to belly up to the bar.
If you think that the key is Taxing Americans to prosperity....maybe you need to get your belly AWAY from the bar.
The difference being the Republicans are talentless wannabe circus clowns.
As Hussein show's at his flawless handling of the economy....*LOL*
If you think that the key is Taxing Americans to prosperity
No, actually the key is running some serious countercyclical fiscal policy until the private economy picks up the slack. It's not as though there aren't plenty of major money-making infrastructure needs.
However, that's off the table since the Very Serious People -- Republicans, mostly -- are insisting that now, now, now in the middle of the worse depression since 1937, is the time we absolutely need to deal with the deficits that didn't matter from 2001 to 2008. So be it.
The largest component of those deficits was from the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, so we should start there.
I see little scotty boy is out with his ussual insults. Nothing new there.
He also doesn't know what he's talking about. Asking the top 2% to go back to the pre bush tac rates isn't going to bankrupt any of the. It is bankrupting this country. He also hasn't paid any attention to the part about "cut spending" that has been proposed and talked about. He's just a hateful Obama, Liberal basher.
The news just keeps getting better for progressives imo , Mr Benen might do this yet , But I think Senator McCaskill did a spectacular job on standing up to GOP rhetoric yesterday , she is some what of a conservadem , so I do not agree with her on some issues , but she is a perfect fit for the job of exposing the floundering GOP for what they are , especially on the issues facing the lame duck congress , she left dave gregory and the rest of them rather slacked jawed , they is not use to dems showing up with back bone ....But this back bone is coming from TPOUS and all dems , congratulations progressives , we have been heard
Also a shout out to treasury sec tim geithner , great showing ..I will send out thank you notes to all of them , we have to be active still folks , my dem friends are not really into keeping the pressure up , those of us who have time to must keep the flame hot on these issues , thank you thank thank if you can help out
Peace
I was shocked yesterday to see that in the previous week Gregory had been the recipient of a spine transplant.
Lying and distorting about a dirty laundry list of faux controversies about President Obama's positions and policies....the ONLY way to feed tea party rage is a GREAT idea. EVERYLOSER will love it! Call your unelected lobbyist or advocate and TELL HIM YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR FREEDOM FROM REALITY TODAY!
Like the reality that Americans on food stamps DOUBLED under this guy? Gas TRIPLED? American business announced TODAY as at THE LOWEST Manufacturing point since he took office? THESE are the realities under this failure while ADDING how many illegals and those who have no wish to work to "Bammycare"? Let's talk reality.
sure the financial crisis that President Obama inherited from the Republicans had NOTHING to do with it....
Hey little Scotty - mommy wants her computer back.
4 years later...it's worse. Point blank. And TC, again I'd tell you to go to he** , But it appears you live there. How's California's bankruptcy coming along?
Gas prices are down here scotty , and our dem senators are exposing corruption and price fixing in the oil industry for the jacked up prices in Cal this last summer , things are not looking all that great for you low informed voters , on all fronts , I can see why you come here for melt down relief lol
I'd say we need to get the Tea Party free from the twilight zone. If we do not, we will have to go over the cliff.
Scott, I think you're forgetting what Obama inherited from Bush. Also, gas prices hit record highs under Bush; higher than they currently are, or have been under Obama. The reason they tripled is because the market is recovering from the financial crisis.
Manufacturing decreased because of the fear of the "fiscal cliff." If only John Boehner and the House would do what is best for this country, it would't be at a low. And I'm sure the increase food stamps had nothing to do with the economy losing 800,000 jobs per month at the end of Bush's term.
4 years later...still not enough jobs to keep up with job losses. American Business has come out openly against the economic Policy of this obvious failure. THAT has NEVER happened.Common sense should tell you that during a recession raising taxes is an OBVIOUS no go. And the EPA costs Americans jobs on a daily basis..these are ALL wounds inflicted on this economy by the guy currently in charge and nobody else.
Scotty is not the least bit interested in facts or "logic". He knows neither. Scotty, did you know a family with one person working 40 hrs a weeek, is elegible for food stamps? Did you know that The President of the United States has nothing to do with the price of gas? Did you know that oil production is at an all time high and gas is our number one export? Didn't think so. You don't care either do you? You can't bash the President with that info. Please contue to show just how hateful and ignorant you are. You've done a great job of it so far.
This Eco nut in the White House has NOTHING to do with the price of gas...YOU are a complete babbling, fact ignoring Liberal that does not care about the havoc this failure has wreaked upon the economy. Everything from Refinery Regs to shutting off 80% of known resources to drilling...don't be a jock kisser and deny what this guy is truly doing to the average everyday American.
And you don't remember when the gas prices were so high under GWB when the GOP ALL said there was nothing to President could do about the price of gas. It's called supply and demand. And I thought you righties loved the "free market. OH, only when it does what YOU want. Get some facts idiot.
scott, you are arguing like a man with a paper @!$%#, to quote Vonnegut.
Someone needs to go back to high school economics. Crude oil is traded on the global market. The President has very little to do with gas prices, if anything at all. Take a look at this chart of historic gas prices.
The 'Fiscal Cliff' talks are going nowhere. Instead of having a sit-down with members
of both parties and resolving the issue, Obama is running around to campaign-style
events in which he’s touting his tax hikes on the wealthy and attacking the Republicans.
Obama needs to do what he was elected to do, LEAD! He loves being president but doesn’t like the WORK involved. Instead he does what a community agitator normally
does: stir up anger!
Obama’s proposal for resolving the ‘Fiscal Cliff’? $1.6 Trillion in Tax hikes, extension
of unemployment benefits that already exceeded any previous coverage, a “permanent” ability to raise the debt ceiling, independent of Congress and Obama
is also demanding a new $50 billion stimulus program. There was no significant effort to rein in our bloated spending.
Obama appears very confident that if the budget talks fail, Republicans in the House
will attract most of the blame. That may be, but he should remember that his
own approval ratings collapsed to an all-time low in the aftermath of the failed
debt ceiling negotiations last year. We are headed for a financial meltdown and Obama acts like it is a political game.
Rachel and the rest of the MSNBC crew as well as the liberals who post here will of course blame the Republicans. But it is you who reelected the incompetent failure we have in the White House.
Thanks for demonstrating what the lack of frontal lobes looks like in the typical Republican moron. Why aren't you asking the idiots you vote for to come up with an actual response to what the President proposed? Or do you know in your soul at 3 am that the rest of America is laughing at you behind your back, as they have all your loser life?
TC - are you really that stupid? Did you actually read my post?
Instead of getting involved with the negotiations, Obama sends tax cheat Geitner with a proposal of 1.6 TRILLION in tax hikes, demanding a new $50 billion stimulus program and a “permanent” ability to raise the debt ceiling, independent of Congress! Where are the cuts? You're an ignorant liberal tool!
This is how dumb you get from constantly watching MSNBC!
Maybe the gop trolls should get off their lazy a$$' and ask their politicians and wall st "where all the jobs are" from the tax cuts that ended up tanking our budget genius ? Instead of coming here and blaming obama FOR ALL YOUR OWN FAILED POLICIES....Go to the source turnip heads
You told all of us tax cuts create new revenue , what the heck happened? You people are still selling the same brand today , like it will have a different out come?
Sullyman
I negotiate for a living, a good living, and I can tell you that Obama has approached this negotiation exactly as a professional negotiator would approach the negotation. Propose what you really, really want, let the other side respond in kind, and then move to the middle as far as you think you need to go, but no farther. Let the other siderespond. Repeat until you reach a deal. It is the way negotiations are handled in grown up world. Obama is showing that he respects Republicans. I wouldn't go that far. I don't have any respect for the whiners at all.
Going to the public is an important part of leading. That is exactly what Obama is doing.
Now, what does the Republican counter look like? Hummmmm.
Ron - we're talking about averting a finacial meltdown and you think Obama is doing right to play games? The deal was to cut expenses and increase taxes on the wealthy. The Republicans have indicated a willingness to increase taxes and Obama replies by not only refusing to make cuts but increase spending!
Pantango - you just a ignorant fool!
Pantango - it is Obama's failed policies that got us into this mess, you're just too brainwashed to see it or simply refuse to see it! I said it before: you're an ignorant fool!
If you understood that $1.6 trillion in revenue and specified spending cuts is significantly more than $800 billion in unspecified spending cuts and loophole closings, it might help clear up the problem you are facing in dealing with reality. I do realize that the difference between a trillion and a billion is well beyond your standard 3rd grade GOP arithmetic, since you do not have enough fingers and toes to work it out. But one might hope that a clear and better plan should have more support than an unclear fuzzy worse one.
Donni - where are the cuts, dumbass! Obama is not proposing ANY cuts. He is proposing spending increases. Try to get that throught your thick, ignorant skull.
Also the tax increases Obama wants will only cover 8.5 days of goverment spending. Can you count that an your toes, idiot!!!
Wrong again, sullyfullof@!$%#!
But keep up the good faux news work!
LOL
Republicans just lost an election because they tirelessly campaigned to protect the wealthiest in the country. Now they are committing the same error all over again. The one percent must be held accountable and made to pay their fair share. This is what real Americans are demanding from this this do-nothing Congress. Incomes for the top percent of taxpayers have shot up at an obscene pace even as incomes and wages for the vast majority of Americans have fallen. Poverty is at record levels while the rich get big tax breaks on their market investment and corporate jets. - progressive
As the jobs go down, and unemployment goes up, More taxes are a good idea to whom.....idiots?
Ah look, Jerrold Nevada is here, taking a break from his job fornicating sheep.
Asking for a date?
If this country lost 5000 Romneys it would be devastating to the country. If we lost 5000 "activists"....well who the hell would know or care?
What do you mean, lost? I don't want anyone to die, but if 5000 Romneys "went Galt", we'd probably be a lot better off, actually.
Huh? 5000 times $300 million is $1.5 trillion. Annoying, but not a big deal especially since the bulk of it is in offshore accounts already.
Getting rid of the parasites might be worth it.
I've worked for every damn thing I have. I've fought for this country and would do so again even to protect idiots like yourself. But that's right. I forgot. you righties belive you know everything about everybody. Actually, you know nothing about anything because you can't get over your hate long enough to listen to the truth.
That MUST be why you are so big on this failure cutting defense department budgets.
The defense budget is way to big. We don't need it. And it isn't vets benifits. They have nothing to do with the defense budget. We have no business trying to be the "global police." $500billion won't hurt it one little bit. We spend that much in less than a year for GWB's wars.
But Hussein surging and losing in Afghanistan don't count? The Military is far more important than welfare programs
scott, the reason the war in Afghanistan went badly, and continues to go badly, is entirely the fault of the shrub and his neocon buddies. they took their eyes off the ball and went into Iraq.
instead of properly prosecuting the war in Afghanistan and doing a ton of hearts-and-minds style nation building they larked-off looking for WMD's. WMD's that did not, do not and never have existed! the UN people on the ground and THEIR OWN PEOPLE ON THE GROUND found nothing because there was never anything to find.
from the point of view of the average Afghan-in-the-street we have been just another army marching through just like armies have been doing for the last 5000 years. we shot up the place, killed thousands of civilians and did the people no good at all.
President Obama tried to change that policy and restore some order with the surge so that we might be able to do something constructive but it is too late. the people there have seen how we act and have made up their minds about us. and they want us gone!
President Obama didn't lose Afghanistan. it was lost by the shrub's inattention. it was a well-intentioned move (the surge) but not a good one. we should get out as soon as we can arrange transportation and shrub (not President Obama) should apologize for his inattention and complicity in the entire fiasco.
Gee...Nothing seems to be Hussein's fault. It's amazing. Been there for 4 TERRIBLE years, and yet the economy tanking is not his fault, Afghanistan and Hussein's version of the surge that Bush accomplished with great success..yet THAT failure is not Hussein's fault....see a storyline developing here? YOU are a bad joke and ignoring the miserable, pathetic performance will follow him.
Oh scotttoiletpaper,
Your guy lost. Get over it.
This man doesn't know when to stop campaigning.
Go back to peeing on fire hydrants somewhere else, asswipe.
get use to it paco , we are not pummeling the dunderhead party by a long shot
get use to it paco , we are not DONE pummeling the dunderhead party by a long shot
Well now ,imagine that! Taking the fight to the people. This could really sharpen the difference between the democrats (democracy) and the republicans(we are a republic not a democracy).
It should be taken to the people. The clowns in congress are hire to work for us. Isn't it a novel idea to have their input.
The Repubs are going to throw a 4 year long temper tantrum.
Obama must stay the course.
When it's over I expect to see them as a monorail regional party.
Since they're planning their own irrelevance, let'em.
I wonder what the new party will call itself.
Yeah I know this is going to hurt, and no I'm not rich, but I'll stand the pain to get rid of them.
It won't make my life better but it will the Repubs away from the children's future.
Patango -I watched that interview. What you interpreted though your liberal filter is McKaskill doing a "spectacular job on standing up to GOP rhetoric yesterday", I saw as McKaskill flat out lying on the issues involved. Typical Democrat way of debating!
Back to your Faux Snooze bubble, bubble boy.
Have you ANY coherent thought?
That's a laugh coming from liberal idiots who think what MSNBC tells them to think!
Coherent? You would have to point out the actual lie told , instead of making an accusation with nothing to back it up , like a 3rd grader
sullybull@!$%#ter has a really tough time now that his guy lost. Have some pity on it, guys!
Yeah Pantango, like your comments are based in reality. You're just another MSNBC brainwashed fool!
David - you and the other ignorant liberals here are going to have a tough time when we have a finacial meltdown because of Obama's failed, ignorant policies!
"David - you and the other ignorant liberals here are going to have a tough time when we have a finacial meltdown because of Obama's failed, ignorant policies!"
Yeah! Robme would have been much much better!
Robme/sullyfullofbull@!$%# 2012!!1
LOL!!
What were the lies? Without citations and proofs, we have only your bitter screeds to go by and they don't help your "argument".
With Obama and liberals leading the charge of “Tax the Rich” a little perspective is needed.
Federal revenue this year will be approximately $2.5 trillion.
That's $2,500,000,000,000. How much, again? Here are some examples:
- At $45.8 million per year, LeBron James would need to work 54,607.5 years to earn it.
- Average life in the U.S. lasts 2.4 billion seconds.
- 2.5 billion seconds ago = 1933.
- 2.5 trillion seconds ago = 74,250 BC.
Furthermore, a stack of 2.5 trillion dollar bills would reach a height of 169,665 miles -- more than two thirds the way to the moon. This brings us to the second part of the problem.
We're set to spend this year $3,500,000,000,000.
Now, let's get back to calls for more revenue. Imagine you had a teenager to whom you gave $1,000 a month, and he not only squandered it every time, but also continually maxed out his credit cards. Would your solution be to give him even more money and/or secure him a credit-line increase? Or might you, outraged, cut up the credit cards and tell him he must live within his means? (In reality, you should cut him off completely.)
This may seem a ridiculous example, giving a teenager one grand a month. But is it any more ridiculous than giving the feds $208,000,000,000 a month and then entertaining the notion that they should perhaps get even more?
And another idiot who snored his way through Econ 101 raises his head. Nice to see what it takes to pass the IQ test low enough to be one of you droolers.
TC - it's amusing how you attack but are unable to come up with actual arguements to anyones comments you don't agree with. In the process you show how ignorant you are. Typical for a liberal.
sullyfullofbull@!$%# is the one who is truly ignorant here, TC. It has also done its fair share of insulting people on this thread. Typical of a conservatard....
David - just getting a last few in before getting banned dumbass!
"David - just getting a last few in before getting banned dumbass!"
Keep up the good work! And you will be gone soon!
LOL
It took the failed economic policies of three Republican Presidents (Reagan, GHWB and GWB) ove a thirty year period to get us to where we are today and you're still whining because President Obama can't clean up the mess he was left fast enough?
You want the economy to recover faster? Then tell the Republicans in Congress to get off their duffs and pass President Obama's JOBS Act. It's not as if Republicans haven't been promising to do something about that since 2010.
And failed.
Again.
Thank you all for not feeding the trolls. Those who shall not be named . Road show indeed and when they try and pull the debt ceiling BullshMitt, I want Dems out in front saying It is REPUBLICANS who want to bring down the credit of the US , not a generic congress .
Sorry, I like kicking idiots. Shooting fish in a barrel is fun, too. :-)
Your backside must be sore. And all you have to do is look at the economy under this guy...manufacturing at the LOWEST point since this guy took office and falling. How long will the American people stand it?
You have it absolutely backwards Scotty, manufacturing output is at higher levels than at any time during the Bu$h years.
Try again, and cite some actual facts or evidence to back up your claims. Oh, and make sure they aren't from Fux Noise or World wingnut daily.
Your ignorance must be painful, it's hurting me as we speak.
You just lie and then try and top that one with a bigger one.
Where is your evidence that manufacturing is at the lowest point since your president took office?
Where are you facts? Do you have any? Links? Cut and paste something? Anything?
You're just another loser in a long line of Fux Noise brainwashed losers.
After a few days reading some of our neighborhood trolls, I just went ahead and put them on "Ignore"; that way they do not take up inordinate amounts of space on my computer screen. I'm about ready to add a few more to that list. Thus I avoid feeding the trolls.
TC--I understand that it is fun to make fun of the trolls who wander in from RW blogs, but I prefer to be polite in my comments and try to avoid giving myself too much temptation to be otherwise. I aim for subtle snark.
Perhaps if you had watched the morning bell at the stock markets opening...you might have heard.
Yeah right:
Corporate Profits Hit Record High
Posted on 12/03/2012 at 1:30 pm by JM Ashby
It’s hard out here for a Job Creator.
(via Fortune)
If after-tax profits have reached their highest point in history, does that mean they can afford to pay a little more? No?
Wages are also at their lowest share of GDP in history, so it hardly seems fair to argue that “costs” or “uncertainty” are as big of an impediment to business as Corporate America would like you to believe.
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/12/corporate-profits-hit-record-high.html
But why let little things like facts get in the way of a good 'ole fashioned troll meltdown?
Do you ever have anything relevant to say? Why not try getting rid of some of that hate that's in every one of your comments?
I have to wonder why you babble...yet all you do is smooch Obama's backside and do not address the numbers that he has produced as President. An unmitigated disaster by ANYone's standards...
I kiss nobody's ass. If Obama screws up, I'll call him out. But unlike you right ring nutjobs, going after revenue is a neede goal. And I'm still waiting for one of you righties to tell us just who has ever said "spending doesn't need to be cut". But the I also didn't hear any of you complaining about GWB spending many $trillion on the credit card. OH, that's right, he's a reublican. That's what they do best. That and lie is into wars.
We're lucky to have a president who is willing to do whatever it takes, and has the wisdom to re-invent himself in order to facilitate progress. It's far removed from the (supposed) man of faith, doltish Bush whose idea of populism was firing up a chainsaw.
Do whatever it takes...free cell phones, passing out foodstamps to 47 million Americans, breaking American immigration law to court illegals...whatever it takes!
I bet chainsaws fascinate you, c'mon admit it.
Scotty. The Cell phone program was started in 1984. Who was President at that time? I believe it was ronnie. GWB continued it. And it's for a good cause with very limited minutes. But please don't let a few facts get in the way of bashing the President. But it would be nice if you check your facts just a little bit. Google is easy to use. For most people anyway.
I swear I did not record the lady in Cleveland with her Obamaphone....think SHE believed?
Still refuse to check facts I see. Some peole just prefer to stay dumb.
Folks, it looks like we have a new troll on our midst, Mr. Scott the numbers guy. Just a reminder not to feed him, or he'll stick around.
Of course we could bring up various facts like:
1) What the marginal tax and capital gains rates throughout post war America were, that helped produce the single biggest expansion of the middle class and wealth in the history of mankind for any single nation.
2) Tax cuts to the tune of 3 trillion dollars to the 'job creators' created the weakest job growth numbers in modern American history.
3) Corporate profits are at an all time high
4) The DOW is as high as it's been since 1990
5) Tax rates for Americans are at historical lows
But then again, when have facts and evidence ever changed the opinion of the tea party fux noise lemmings like him?
These people remind me of the Japanese soldiers still fighting WWII in the jungles of east Asia decades after the war had ended.
They have a reality they are comfortable with, and they'll stick to their guns by George, truth be damned.
Citizen. Little scotty is only new to this blog. He's been on others spewing his lies an hate. This president could bring world piece and little scotty would bash him for that. He's so full of hate it blinds him from facts or truth. Jorald is another hate filled rightie. When's the last time you checked the stock market Jerry? And guess what. Taxes are going up, as they should. And no, President Obama is not raising them. Don't even try that Fox Lies BS. They're 2 years late.
What an outright lie...Peak stock market was 2,100 points higher than currently under GWB. Do you just not know....or rather lie to gullible people?
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/12/corporate-profits-hit-record-high.html
But keep ranting on; conservatard posts are really entertaining!
Who crashed the stock market and the economy?
ummm Scotty. You are aware of the phenomenon called a 'bubble'? Usually, bubbles get their biggest before they burst. Technically, you're right. The stock market was higher in 2006 than it is now.
Then 2008 hit.
Ouch.
So much for your argument there.
WHAT caused today's misery....It's called Fannie /Freddie. You know...the one that Bawney Fwank was STILL trying to pump money in as it sank? You know...the Fannie/Freddie that has received bailout money second only to the banks that they stuck with their social engineering Home loans,
bwaahahahahahahaha
I knew that was coming... Fannie and Freddie
BWAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
So it's your stance that only one financial entity, Fannie and Freddie, single handedly, aided and abetted by a lone, single, solitary congressman, caused the worst economic meltdown since the great depression, affecting the global economy?
Really???
THAT is at the heart of the sinking of the American economy. period.
Flat out wrong, period.
If there is one thing I find to be true about republicans, tea partiers, conservatives, whatever they choose to call themselves, is that they are ALWAYS WRONG, ON EVERYTHING.
Wrong all the time, on everything.
Every bubble bursts. citizen. You can't talk facts with scotty or jerry. It's above their head. They prefer Fox Lies and fantisy land. They've never been correct on anything. They refuse to check any info. They already know everything about everybody and every issue possible. Just ask them. They'll be very happy to tell you. Jerry tried telling me how much a didn't make yesterday. They are like McCain and Palin. Attention whores.
Who supported Fannie/Freddie even as it was sinking? It (Fannie/Freddie) is the second biggest recipient of Government bailout money only to the Banks that they crashed with their Ponzi scheme.
You're just too stupid for you own good. I'll bet they crashed the economy all by them selves.
I saw in a report somewhere that in terms of percentage, more people support the president's tax plan than actually supported him in the election.
I think the problem is that the president is going too far into the political talking point philosophy. At some point he needs to say it directly like any normal person would say it. "If you're a Koch brother and are forced to pay more in taxes, that still leaves you with over 20 billion. If you think you can't do that, then trying living like an average person with $100,00 a year. You're a Koch brother with 23 billion left after being taxed. I'm sure you can manage getting by..."
Jerry. Since you're so smart, how much do they make. Could have something to do with greedy corporations cutting wages? Maybe it has something to do with the GWB econonomic crash. And btw, billionaires pay many milion amd billioniars pay no federal income tax. Most oil companies not only pay none, but get tax rebates. Once again jerry is too busy hateing to get fact on who does what. Just more right wingnut talking points. How many time has that same statement been made jerry?
Blaming Fannie/Freddie on GWB or even the Right for that matter makes you a liar of unbelievable proportions....
I know that it's not the Bush regime time period, but did you ever pick up a news paper back then and use it for more than lining the bird cage? How about using a search engine? Ever try one of those, Scottie?
And once again little jerry thinks he knows everything about me. And I don't believe for a minute that you invest in anything but BS. I'm deffinately not broke. I own my houme and 2 cars. Payed for. I've worked for every dime. Unlike you you. But then sinse you know me so well you know that. And you think you're so smart with your Oregon comment. I think everybody on the blog knows I live in OR. It's not a big secret. Well I guess I'm getting slow. It's our good friend jerry in las Vegas. Remember the one that wants people to think he's a big rich wheeler dealer? He's only been banned twice from MSNBC and 3 times from Ed's radio blog. How the gambling jerry?
My take on this is slightly different: Obama is working on a strategic, rather than tactical, level. He's doing this to put a permanent wedge between the Republicans and the American middle class.
The tactical change is certainly valuable, although as others have pointed out it's not likely to make a lot of difference between gerrymandering and almost two years before the next Federal election. But Obama has four years to pound on that wedge and if his successors follow through, things are going to be very different by 2022.
With the Economy under this guy...Mid terms will be quite a story.
How did that work out for you 3 weeks ago scotty? lol
Certainly celebrating any thing bad about the american economy will get you more votes next time , huh genius?
Write your worthless politicians pronto and tell them to quash any hopes of getting our economy going
The anti american dream party strikes again
Political party 1st, over what's good for america
If the GOP doesn't get realist and there is no deal, it will be the GOP's fault. All they did was offer the Ryan dissaster budget with a new name. Again. And they bitched about Obama not giving "specifics". Theirs has not one "specific". But hell jerry, don't let facts get in the way of hateing this country.
An opinion from a man (an old school Conservative) that I love to hear from anytime speaking about those who signed the Norquist pledge:
They love their ideology more than they love their Country. - Sen. Alan Simpson (R-WY), 11/27/12
Yes, radical righties are not true Patriots. *Revenues* and cutting......get it???
No Virginia...Government IS NOT Santa Claus...WHERE in the Constitution did it say the Citizenry had to pay 42% of the Budget in Welfare related programs? Government HAS NO BUSINESS BEING YOUR PARENT. You want cuts? Go pre "Great Society" cuts and see if that does not straighten the Budget out.
Scotty. get some facts or STFU
Did the President campaign on a balanced approach to this problem?
Sullyman
I have known Claire McCaskill for 30 years. I have known real liberals. Claire isn't a liberal. She is really a professional prosecutor turned auditor, turned Senator. She takes liberal social positions, but she really prides herself on being conservative to middle of the road on most every other issue. She is the classic blue dog Democrat. Your take on Claire McCaskill demonstrates you don't really have a clue. What is the color of the sky in the Fox bubble.
Exactly Ron , I have no idea really , but I might guess that the obama team is putting her forward , because she is a conservative the dems can actually work with , and she might be able to find common ground with gop conservatives as a result
Hi Ron
I also know Claire and agree with you. She is the real deal and I am glad my fellow Missourians were smart enough to send her to Washington. She is a blue dog if there ever was one and i am about as right wing as they come. She works well with blount on Missouri issues.
Ron - FOX is a lot more honest than this 3rd rate joke of network. Maybe true about McCaskill but all she did was lie trying to cover Obama's sorry ass!
sullyfullofbull@!$%# thinks faux news is great! LOL!!!!!!
A lot better than this site, you ignorant moron!
LOL!
Trolls UNITE!
LOL!!!
You people are such ignorant fools! You can keep your circle jerk going, applauding
each other and raving about what a great job Obama is doing until we go into a
major depression. Your hero claimed to have gotten us out of the ditch only to drive us off a cliff!
David is a perfect example! he thinks copying a statement and typing lol at the end is a brilliant counter-argument. What a moron!
You haven't provided a single citation to back up any of your claims, there are at least three insults in your post and yet we're supposed to accept your claim about David's post?
I'd suggest looking a mirror, or have they all cracked?
Obama said you can't change Washington from the inside....so OUTSIDE! Right on!
4 more years of him not getting his Socialist programs implemented....Darn..I'll bet you hate that...
scotty. I've ask you no less the 4 times to name these "socialist" programs and you've been unwilling to. STFU
Everything from Welfare to Husseincare...The Government has NO BUSINESS being your parent, nor should your neighbor be on the hook for supporting you. And I DEFINITELY do not want YOU to tickle me,Elmo....
Capitalistic puppet.. Never learn a thing watching Fox/Rush they only cater to to their money masters.
As compared to your reading Mao and learning loads....
We need to end the "socialist programs" like oil subsidies for the gluttonous bastards they are!
Scott. Please explain to the folks how buying insurance from a private insurance company is "socialism". Do you even know what socialism is? Do you know anything about the ACA? And just for your information, the is NO SUCH thing as Husseincare. Just another insult to the President of The United States. Shows how much you hate this country. I need no one to support me. I do quite nicely. I wouldn't touch you with the end of a rifle. You're not worht the air you breath.
Maybe he'd like it better if it was called Obamneyromney care!
He'll be the first in line to sign up for it. Maybe then he'll move out of mommies basement and give her her computer back.
