Sheldon Adelson is still in it to win it.
Will the House also agree to lift the ban on covering abortions for military rape victims?
The DNC wants the Obama campaign's voter database.
Will Florida be able to privatize Medicaid?
Economics professor says the government is failing because poverty is not rising.
Congratulations, Marco Rubio!
The port strike in Los Angeles is over after 8 days.

What is Adelson planning to win, how about a one way ticket to Tehran. I think somebody already won the everlasting Gobstopper. We could always dust off the fickle finger of fate award. Maybe we could all pinch in a penny and get him a trophy for the man who knows how to throw away money the best, that one may be a toss up with the Koch Bros.
Adelson: A fool and his money...
But, with Adelson, the two just keep parting and parting and parting and parting!
That miserable old moneybags really did believe he could buy the election. But nobody was buying what he was selling. You can advertise until your bank account runs dry, but if nobody trusts the product you're hawking you're just pissing your money away.
I wish it were as simple as someone just being stupid with his money. But Sheldon Adelson, Harold Simmons (Mr. Nuclear Waste Disposal) and the Koch Bros. all have skin in this game. They may have lost the battle, but they're sure intent on winning the war.
If the House 2013 Defense Authorization Bill doesn't lift the ban on funding abortions for military rape and incest victims, the representatives responsible for continuing the ban should be individually named on the front page of every newspaper in the country, along with their office and email addresses. Their offices should be picketed relentlessly, and their email inboxes and websites should be overloaded with angry messages. If they're such callous and merciless ideologues that they can't (or won't) learn from Akin and Mourdoch, they should be hounded without mercy. The idea of denying any rape/incest victims access to safe abortion is sickening. To do this to women who are serving their country is beyond unthinkable.
Incredibly well said. Count me in. I am a veteran. I was raped (1976). I was told to keep quiet and I did. No pregnancy resulted from such a violent act but I carried the emotional scars for years. If ever there was a reason for a grass roots movement - this is it. Lady Veterans - where are you?
If nothing else, they should at least be listed as the "fathers" on all the resulting birth certificates, and held financially accountable. Maybe that would get their attention.
The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along.

;-)
I hate to think of what the requirements will be that the House adds to the bill as an amendment. Maybe making the victim prove they were raped when the military harshly discourages victims from reporting rapes would be just what they would want along with a "probe" to boot.
From a group of people (teapubs), screaming about Sharia law, they sure do support the principles of and try to make our own laws follow Sharia law by voting in laws suppressing women to "keep them in their place".
There MUST be a way for me- (a sane, honest, moderately liberal, white male, with a BA, living on SS in a major Midwest urban area) to get some of this fool's excessive disposal income. Suggestions invited.
As a point of interest regarding FL's privatization of Medicaid, this year Connecticut went from privatized administration back to public administration: http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2011/December/29/Connecticut-Drops-Insurers-From-Medicaid.aspx
re Obama's date screw the DNC and everybody who wants it given to them. if they can't figure out that it's a living data set not an email list it's time for them to get out of politics.
on a related note, man am i glad i'm not in it.
Re Obama's voter list....it will be turned over...the instant Hillary announces that she will run.
Government is failing because poverty isn't rising? Oh my, I am shocked, shocked I tell you . . .
Isn't that shame? How can any Democrat hold up their heads? Just terrible for our country because government has been wasting money on those who do not need help because they are not poverty-stricken.
How many meals must you miss? -- How long should you live out of your car? -- How often should your kids go without? -- before poverty is considered an accurate label?
/snark/
Did the author not consider that wages may be too low?
A lot of that information for the Obama campaign came in through Organizing for America, which was set up, run, and funded by the state Democratic Committees for the battleground states. Shouldn't they have access to the information they collected?
Rachel we are dying to hear about your meeting with the President! He's way overdue for that interview with you. : )
Re Prof Mulligan on incentives to work: the biggest disincentive to work is being rich, not being on government assistance. Most people work in order to provide themselves and their families with a decent life. People like Romney who live in luxuary without doing a lick of work do not work because they can still own 5 mansions and a several $40,000.00 cars and afford to take four years to run for President. Of course he will say he earned those riches by past work. Well,I earned my SS and my small private pension by past work too and so did those workers at the companies that Romney and his buddies pillaged and stole their pension funds.
So privatizing Medicaid is supposed to lower costs?
Bunk! The Rs are still trying to privatize government and PRETEND things will be cheaper in the private sector.
I remember watching Rummy trying to privatize military. Why? Drive up debt, war of choice. Are we going to buy that ever again?
Well, then private prison for profit would like to keep that money flowing in and keep people in prison longer to increase their profit from us?
There are some things that should not be for profit and without regulation. But that is what they do. Belittle government, make claims that they have to cut and privatize everything Medicare and Medicaid.
This stuff is costly, but Obamacare is designed to cut costs. But then the RW argue about doctors leaving. No, there is a method to this, we have to drive the costs down for Medicare and Medicaid, cut waste and fraud, which Obamacare is designed to do. They made it slowly implemented, it still isn't fully implemented.
Medicare is a big part of the budget, Obamacare has been made law, see how the cost cutting helps.
They had cuts already given to Rs. It's time to admit the cuts will also affect the economy.
The people want rates raised on over $250K and the Rs still trying to override what the people want.
Is that going to solve it? Not completely. But I want the Rs to stop trying to do away with Medicare and Medicaid, etc.
Economic recovery will do so much to bring in revenues.
But both of these things have been denied by Republicans.
THAT disgusts me.
simon legreed here thinks poverty isn't high enough? who are these people? how much macaroni and cheese can they eat? why do they think they need all this money? if they'd just spend it and give it a chance to trickle down to the rest of us but they don't its just sitting there collecting more money like a black hole. and then they have the nerve to whine about taxes? money isn't a game piece, it isn't a souvenir and it doesn't have your name on it and if you don't put it to use we have every right to take it back and put it to use ourselves. I think its time we lower wealth the same amount as we've raised poverty.
