Republican pundits did not fare well during the 2012 election season, and few did as much lasting damage to their reputations as Karl Rove and Dick Morris. The former had a strange, on-air tantrum on election night and running a wildly-unsuccessful campaign operation; the latter guaranteed a Romney landslide, then later admitted he lied as part of a larger partisan agenda.
Now, both men will be seen less often on their network of choice. Gabriel Sherman has the scoop.
The post-election soul searching going on inside the Republican Party is taking place inside Fox News as well. Fox News chief Roger Ailes, a canny marketer and protector of his network's brand, has been taking steps since November to reposition Fox in the post-election media environment, freshening story lines -- and in some cases, changing the characters.
According to multiple Fox sources, Ailes has issued a new directive to his staff: He wants the faces associated with the election off the air -- for now. For Karl Rove and Dick Morris -- a pair of pundits perhaps most closely aligned with Fox's anti-Obama campaign -- Ailes's orders mean new rules. Ailes's deputy, Fox News programming chief Bill Shine, has sent out orders mandating that producers must get permission before booking Rove or Morris.
Sherman added that "inside" the network, "Morris's Romney boosterism and reality-denying predictions became a punch line."
Don't feel too bad for the Republican strategists -- despite their ignominious failures, Rove will keep his Wall Street Journal column; Morris will keep his column in The Hill; both remain on Fox News' payroll; and come the 2014 midterms, it's likely they'll be out of the doghouse and sharing poor predictions all over again.

I do watch Fox News to see what lies they are spreading, Thank YOU LORD, no more listening to these to LIARS !!!!
Who?
Nobody here watches that OTHER channel....right?
That would b hypocritical
two liars...
What exactly are the lies??? You are hilarius!!!! All you can do is throw the word "liar" around and hope it sticks somewhere......
I sometimes watch it/read it online when I need a chuckle.
There is nothing better than Jon Stewart's imitation of Dick Morris
You are right... Jon Stewart's imitation of Dick Morris is fantastic. Not to mention when he was doing his segment...
CHAOS ON — — — — — — — — MOUNTAIN... aka Fox News. That was priceless.
Never in history of network news has one network lied so much to their audience, both in US and in England, as fauXnews and their so called reporters do. From Bengazi to war on Christmas to elections no matter what election we hear the same old dribble of Murdoch and his hackers back a bunch of white old men as they attempt to buy one election with old white men money. Go back to England Murdoch and take Hannity, Orally, Beck, Morris, Ailes, and that dumb witch out of Alaska with you. And while you're at it take Boehner and McConnell as they will be your future "analysts" as no other credible news network will hire them. MSNBC may be partisan but at least they call it whether they are wrong or right. Those bastards at fauX haven't a damn clue as to what is reality.
FOX News Channel achieved a rare television milestone in clinching ten years as the number one news network in cable television. Having surpassed CNN in January 2002, FNC has now reigned over the cable news universe for an entire decade while continuing to outpace both CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewership, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Ahhhhh...the jealousy!!!! ROFL!!!! It is really coming out now!!!! Love the comments!!!! WAhoo!!! Keep em coming!!!!!
And so another conservative loser proves that there are more idiots then there are intelligent people.
How did you like Fox Propaganda's predictions that they would "sweep" the elections?
About the same as I like this loon. Scarier because she is actually and elected representative.
U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said on that despite predictions by so-called experts to the contrary, she’s confident her party will win back the chamber in the Nov. 6 election.
“The momentum is with us,” Pelosi said. “Our motto is don’t agonize, organize.”
A number of political analysts predict that Democrats may gain up to a half dozen or so House seats, but not the 25 needed to take control.
Pelosi rejects such talk and said she and fellow Democrats, based on what they see in a variety of polls and what they see and hear in the field, believe they can win.
Maybe she was still coming down from the drugs from the last plastic surgery.
More predictions. You've got a great track record.
And the discussion's about Fox Propaganda, not individuals.
Oh the jealousy. They have more people listening to them than to your drivel....
That's why you keep losing elections. And by the way, you're the one that keeps coming to MSNBC.
Jealous?
I think the correct term for MSNBC viewers would be sad. That Fox viewers would listen to a network that should be on the cartoon channel for it's resemblance to the real world.
But I guess they know their audience.
You know it's bad for Rove when you see this segment from the Colbert Report
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/421159/november-12-2012/colbert-super-pac-shh----karl-rove---jon-stewart
Then the next night with Newt Gingrich
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/421236/november-13-2012/newt-gingrich-pt--2
Find it hard to ever watch Fox, but glad to see that these 2 will be gone, at least for awhile. Have never trusted Rove.
Did you know that Clear Channel who owns a dominate share of all the billboards and radio stations in America is owned by Romney's Bain Capital and they syndicate Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, Michael Savgage and Glenn Beck etc.
http://endoftheamericandream.com/archives/bain-capital-owns-clear-channel-rush-limbaugh-sean-hannity-glenn-beck-michael-savage-etc
Just one big slimy circle doing what's best for
Americathemselves.Fox News: We distort, you decide.
and did you know that no one cares. your brain may explode on this one.
I still find it interesting that, although they're not actually her syndicator, Stephanie Miller's show is carried on a lot of Clear Channel stations.
The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along.

@Pretzelogic: The quote you've cited is a perfect description of the Vanilla Gorilla From Wasilla. Also, great screen name!
I always thought of her as the Alaskan Screech Owl.
Since the 2012 elections, Clear Channel has already killed off the popular progressive talk format on station KPOJ in Portland, Oregon. It's now another sports talk station (there were already four or five such stations on the dial there).
I wonder what FUX Noise's GULag is like?
Will they be punished with hard and upleasant labor -like making them read Liberal books and blogs?
Will they prop their eyes open, and force them to watch Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" on an endless loop?
Or, worse yet, will they leave those two in a room alone, with no other stimuli, and force them to look and talk to each other?
A Republican "No Exit." Maybe that's even too cruel for these two. NAH!!!
Waiiit a minute. That doesn't sound like news, so much as... scripted... fiction... oh, right.
:-D

Concur. But it's fiction that poisons minds. Corroborate Fox "News" with other independent outlets and the disparity in presentation becomes horrifically obvious.
I think they lied about getting rid of those two liars because I doubt they'll find another two high profile liars fast enough.
I kid you not.
Apparently Roger Ailes views himself as a kingmaker. His machinations amaze me. I can't see Dick Morris without the image of his "toe sucking" incident, and with Rove it's the whole "ham rove" clips on the Colbert Report. There's something about this Republican election cycle that provided tons of material for the Comedy Channel, along with the late night stand up comedy routines. They may not have any dignity, but apparently money is what really counts.
Oh, don't worry.
If this restriction lasts a month, I'd be shocked.
Bottom line - producers need to ask permission to book Rove or Morris? They'll ALWAYS get permission. We're dealing with people who live in an alternate reality - hell, according to a recent PPP poll, nearly half of Republicans blame ACORN for stealing the '12 election for Obama. You may as well blame River Phoenix. Rove & Morris tell them the truths Fox viewers want to hear regardless of whether or not they're not "truths" in the "true" sense. They'll be back, and right quick.
Karl Rove raised and spent more money on Republican candidates than anyone. Now he's being taken off the air because he failed.
If FOX had taken him off the air because they thought there was something inherently wrong with a "major news network" employing a Republican fundraiser to provide analysis, then I'd be surprised. (or, more likely, fall into a coma)
They'll dig Morris out of mothballs if it looks like Hillary is running in 2016 so he can spew all his venom - I find it disturbing that there was a time in Arkansas when Bill really relied on this jerk
All joking aside, it doesn't take much thinking to realize that people who go to all the trouble of learning about election issues and candidate choices want a REAL PERSON to represent them, not someone's puppet. I think that was a bigger factor in this election than was reported.
Karl Rove and Big Money, via Grover Norquist, have their GOP elected officials on a very short leash.
the turd blossom and the toe sucker, a punditry dream team of bunk!
LMAO
you know you have to really either suck or just plane be idiots, to lose a gig on a totally partisan channel of right/wrong wing propaganda station.
Fox (Fake) news should be off the air. Their platform is racist, bias and far from REALITY. PEOPLE that watch Fox must be distant from hearing and believing the truth. FOX releases "bad" karma by watching it has a subliminal negative impact on the viewer? I can't stomach Fox and Rove, Morris I don't care or miss them. Two Phat greedy lying Pigs!
No, we don't want to stifle freedom of speech.
Most Fox shows simply need a news ticker crawling across the bottom with the following disclaimer:
"This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents either are the skewed product of conservative imaginations or are used furtively for conservative political advantage. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. Injest this project at your own intellectual risk."
Isn't lying to thousands of people to get them to give you money illegal? Or does that only apply to democrats, non lawyers and the 99%. These guys are criminals and should pay for their deceit.
Unfortunately, it's only unethical - politicians should be held to higher standards as well.
"Media Matters" effectively skewers Fox without the pain of having to watch for any extended period to see who will be the next one to rise to the level of village idiot.
LOL
i agree with you about Media Matters, they have been doing that for a while along with nailing rushbo as well.
LOL at the part where many teabaggers will cry and whine that you mention MM.
they just dont like people who expose them for being as dumb as they are.
Sour grapes make a great whine.
??? So, that just means the rest of the Fox News parade of idiots will be working extra hard at their trash news? Just saying...
They will never change.
The only people who watch FOX FAKE, and I use this term loosely, NEWS are those who are to damn lazy to research on their own, we call them REPUBLICANS, and find out the truth for themselves...I believe it is because they are afraid they will have then think for themselves...
They aren't on the bench they are just back under the fridge.
and just as a point of observation has anyone ever noticed that lots of these guys look like drowning victims or zombies? Bloated, pasty, and looking like they were just fished out of a river...
Now you know why so many of our rivers are polluted!
Now if we could just get McCain off the Sunday morning news shows...
You said it Virginia... Not to mention the bigger snake in the grass... Lindsey Graham.
While they're at it, could they get rid of David "Meet the Republicans" Gregory. Talk about someone who is really bad at his job... It's become completely unwatchable.
This is kind of upsetting. They both did so much to help the Democrats, reinforce the ever expanding belief that the Democratic party is the only one that is reality based, and perhaps moving forward, the only one that will have political relevence.
Whose using who? They can never get away with being pretentious. I think it's because only the 1% watch their variety show. If you're looking for real news without the side bar comments, then you just watch Channel 12 or NBC. CNN can be tilted a little.
So, Fox continues to pay them though they don't have to appear.... Sounds like they just got a very long paid vacation.
I would like to see Rove questioned about ORCA and his efforts to steal the election again, and how Anonymous foiled him. That's an interview I'd like to see. Of course Rove would lie his way through those questions as he usually does, but it would be fun to watch the little pustule squirm a bit. Visualize Karl Rove's arteries...clogged. Truly a disgusting human being.
Pustule! God, why didn't I think of that? I just looked it up in the dictionary and, you guessed it-there was a picture of Karl Rove!
All the "news" regardless of where it comes from must be parsed for bias and accuracy. Gleaning what is actually going on is very challenging for consumers. Yes, FOX News is pretty much a joke, but anyone who does not seek multiple sources risks missing the whole picture. It takes time and work, but it's worth it.
Thank Reagan for getting rid of the "fairness doctrine" at the FCC! Americans cannot expect any "truth" from the media. I don't understand why some non-partisan organization doesn't create a news program dedicated to the truth in news. I think they would soon run the other faux news people out of business! Really? Oh, yeah, that would take "big" money which is...
For those in those who don't know: Rove spent $175 million (when undisclosed spending is taken into account, the actual total may be as high as $390 million?). Obviously you spend what you pay for? lol
Now a word or two on Dick Morris: (Fill in the blank but you must use the word, loon in your sentence.)
Sadly the problem is Fox News. I look forwards for Fox News to go and censor itself. The Republican Party has learned nothing from the last election and Fox News is the direct cause of the GOP not learning anything. The good thing for Democrats is, as long as there is a Fox News, the Republican Party will keep imploding at every election cycle. But it is only a matter of time when the GOP becomes a black hole and start sucking up everything in sight, including the fresh air in the room.
