Members Only.
From the Hill today, an awesome encounter with North Carolina Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, in the elevator reserved for electeds:
Foxx said to the staffer, “This is a ‘members-only’ elevator; can you read?” She then demanded the staffer’s name before the elevator stopped after going just one more floor up. “Get out here,” Foxx supposedly commanded.
Before our insider and the berated staffer exited, the politician exclaimed, “What does this sign say? It says, ‘Members of Congress only.’ ”
But that wasn’t it. The innocent staffer attempted to point out that the sign next to it stated, “during votes,” which is when, our tipster says, Foxx started yelling, “Members only!” as she pointed to signs.
Foxx's office says the account is exaggerated.

Foxx's office says the account is exaggerated means it was probably pretty accurate. And the Republican's have an issue with "entitlements"? pfffft
Love the jacket! Memories...
If the Stepford legislators don't keep the pressure on other women, their male owners, the good ol' boys, won't let them play lawmaker any more, and people will start to notice the emperor has no clothes on.
Hmmm… something inherent in the psyche of Rs? I refuse to look at the way I treat "others" who I deem unworthy.
Deflect. Defend. Deconstruct. Destroy.
Maybe someone can remember isn't this the same woman that opposed Pell Grants because when she went to college she could just work during the summer to pay for her schooling - back in the 1950's? So basically she still feels entitled and shes offended that "one of the little people" dared share "her elevator", the nerve?!? SMH!
She's Southern, and senile, which explains everything.
"... the same woman that opposed Pell Grants because when she went to college she could just work during the summer to pay for her schooling - back in the 1950's?"
Good idea. Let's make tuition a couple of hundred dollars a year, as it was then, and nobody will need a grant or a student loan.
Oh ho ho, eeh hee hee, ah hah hah. That's funny. What a twat.
No surprise that a GOP would use incomplete information to form an opinion.
No, no surprise. She is the feminine L Gohmert.
NMMT,
I would change your statement slightly, to read:
No surprise that Foxx would use incomplete information to form an opinion.
Foxx shares the same un-American values as her party's 'news' network, Fox News.
Speaking of Representative Gohmert, yesterday he was the only vote in the House to keep the word "lunatic" in Federal law. Perhaps he feels their pain?

Louis Gohmert and "lunatic" -- It takes one to know one and if anybody has had personal experience in being a lunatic, it is Gohmert.
.
So the whole sign or message is : ‘Members of Congress only during votes"?
Foxx needs to learn you only parse in print and not in real time, and when busted parsing you don't carry on because , at Foxxs age, it gives people the impression of suffering from dementia or other age related infirmity.
.
There's a lot of that going around the republican ranks.
smb1970 . . . You're right. The current Republican Party is pretty rank. Foxx is an excellent example. This is exactly the way I would expect that someone who is as classless and arrogant as Foxx would respond in this situation.
Napoleonic.
From the cited article:
The elevator went up a single floor before the doors opened and Foxx walked in with an aide.
Maybe I am missing some subtle point, but I'm going to guess that the aide that Foxx brought into the "members only" elevator was also not a member.
I'm starting to wonder if they call her "Ginny" because of her drinking habits.
The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along.

;-)
If only there were a video. I wonder what color her face became as she was doing this? Isn't she just in the House of Commons, and not the House of Lords?
Oh come on, go easy on the poor woman. I mean, it's bad enough that she has to rely on 'the people' for their votes, should she really be forced to ride in an elevator with them too. I think some of you just don't understand the pressures they are under...they actually have to work 126 days next year. Imagine that grueling schedule....all they ask for is special elevators. Is that really so much?
(now...where is that sarcasm font....)
you are so right
What is it with Republicans and their elevators? As governor, Romney commandeered a Statehouse elevator for his private use, barring the public, lawmakers and reporters. And then there's his proposed car elevator...
Love the jacket, Laura -- nice touch.
"Members" only? I thought Foxx had "Lady Parts".
Historically, that is still as yet undetermined, potentially even by Foxx itself..
The Napoleon Complex is a term generally applied only to men. I've watched Cong. Foxx give remarks in the House. About the only thing she hasn't done is pound one of her heels on the lectern. I think the title "Madame Bonaparte" would suit her perfectly.
A true woman of the common folk. At least this serves as a little counter to the "liberal elite" charge.
Virginia Foxx always reminds me of the mean grandmother who screams "mind your manners" or "no dessert for bad boys and girls." Looks like everyone around her is just another petulant grandchild.
Your post reminds me of Southpark episode on Bullying [LINK] (Not family safe language)
Grandma makes her appearance early.
.
Obviously she wasn't wearing her "constituents" persona.
And the newsies caught it. How droll . . .
She sounds extremely, bossy! But, I would listen to her. She's very upset over something, what could that be? Duh, her boyfriend didn't make it to the good times.
It's all so wonderfully Bunningesque
Foxx was not giving an opinion and there is no evidence she cannot read. What she did was a power play. If the staffer worked for another member of the House, that member should bring the staffer to a private meeting with Foxx for an apology. If she refuses, then the member should take it up with the appropriate person or committee. The House member should make it clear that unless the matter is resolved in 24 hours, the staffer will give a statement to the media confirming the incident.
I like that. That is more than fair.
WRONG SIDERS - This is a new term
I think there is a need to label mean spirited people and anyone who does not support the 98% of Americans. If you are not on the side of 98% of the people, then you're a "WRONG SIDER". If you're a hate mongerer, you're a "WRONG SIDER".
Examples are: McConnell, Boehner, Trump, Romney, Pat Robertson,Canter, Ryan, the Koch brothers, Kudlow, Kernan, Santelli, Murdock, all of Fox, Rush, Santorum, Adelson, Beck, Army ..... There are just too many mean spirited people.
You have the idea?
How about apple sider? Like, I am an apple sider, or I need an apple sider, or An apple sider a day keeps the Pugs away. I'll stand B sider her apple sider. We can work out the gliches later.
Back in 1965, one of my brothers accidentally got into a congressional "members only" elevator with Vice-President Hubert Humphrey. He says that he and Humphrey had a pleasant conversation as they rode the elevator. Times change, I guess. The 60's were a younger, more innocent time.
I wouldn't say that 1965 was a more innocent time. Vice President Humphrey was then known as the Happy Warrior in his fight for civil rights, and his stance against the continuation of the war in Vietnam. Remember Alabama Governor George Wallace? He was a prominent, repugnant, figure in the 1960s political scene as well. I don't think that an elevator ride with him would have been very pleasant.
That's entirely to do with Humphrey, a man who didn't have to use rules to demonstrate his personal inner qualities. When you have no personal quality, like any typical Republican, you have to depend on the rules to make people treat you like you have inner qualities.
Nothing innocent 'bout the 60s. However, Humphry was a true gentleman.
Some people run for office so they can change the world, some so they can try to help their constituents, and some so they can use the "Members only" elevator.
Attack Congressional perks!
I wouldn't mind the perks if they would spend more time governing nd less time raising money.
I just found these interesting tidbits on Rep. Virginia Foxx:
"In September 2005, Foxx was one of 11 members of Congress to vote against the $51 billion aid package to victims of Hurricane Katrina. She was also one of only 33 Republicans to vote against the extension of the Voting Rights Act in July 2006."
"In April 2009, Foxx expressed opposition to the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, claiming that the murder of Matthew Shepard was not a hate crime."
She not only voted against the Affordable Care Act, but said it would "put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government." Also: "[W]e have more to fear from the potential of [the Affordable Health Care for America Act] passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Foxx
The woman is ignorant, obtuse or a liar . . . And yet she's still in office. Maybe we need to get ACORN to work in North Carolina.
It should be further noted that she didn't just say that Shepard's death was not a hate crime. She said it was a robbery that led to his death (by then, the police had debunked the robbery angle). She claimed the whole thing was a hoax.
And she did all this on the day Matthew Shepard's mom was in the gallery to add her support for the bill.
ACORN no longer exists (except in the minds of 49% of Republicans polled who think it stole the 2012 election for Obama).
Oh, Virginia Foxx, you really stepped in it now.
She seems to really have a problem with certain "types" of people having equal access/rights.
I suppose her next bill will be separate drinking fountains for Members Only.
Ugliness exposed.
This daughter of the Confederacy needs to have an elevator all to herself. In a missile silo somewhere.
She's lucky we let her traitor ancestors off easy 150 years ago.
Oh, where'd she get her Elevator Info from, Fox News?
At all other times, they need to take the stairs and get some exercise.
Ha! Around here councilmen think they are gods. Of course when their snootiness gets noticed they always try to walk it back.
Make room you dolt! I was voted least hated of the most hated and that makes me better than you!
