Several of you have asked where our esteemed friend and colleague Steve Benen has gone. The answer is simple: Vacation. He'll be in and out some with posts over the next couple of days (guy's hard to stop), and then back for reals next week. I've never missed him more than I do just now, with the next post straight ahead.

Steve certainly deserves a vacation, but in the past he's usually let us know he was going rather than abruptly stopping posting in the middle of a day. Glad to know he's OK.
It was spontaneous combustion.
Proud a yah! You're doing a great job holding the fort down, I didn't know Steve drove a caddy. Good thing it's not pink, or he would have some explaining to do.
Thanks for letting us know.
Steve's on vacation. Dr. Maddow had at least one day off yesterday (will she be back tonight? Chris is an excellent guest-host, but there ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!).
But the news just doesn't stop - this just in:
DeMint will leave Senate to head Heritage Foundation
The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along.

Another Orwellian Institution I'm guessing, they really have nothing to do with anybody except their own heritage. Another exclusive boring and negative Club. We have our own clubs mind you, where we can dance all night if we want to.
Looks like Steve needs to get some transportation with better gas mileage.
Are you sure this isn't Steve? http://campercaravanrepairs.blogspot.com/2012/08/by-early-1900s-richwere-taking-to-this.html

HERE'S Steve! http://odaroloc.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/arch3.jpg
Maybe he is more avant-guard than we suspect, caught in this picture.
Ah, good.
*wipes sweat from brow*
T'was a mite worrying.
Was getting him out on vacation tougher than getting him to take weekends off, or easier?
I went easy on the kid this time, next time not so much.(just kidding).snarl.
About the same, @ShadeTail.
Thanks for the update. I always that that it would be more likely for the earth to suddenly stop rotating than for Steve to suddenly stop blogging. He is one hard-working dude, and his break is very well-deserved.
Anyway, thanks for letting us know. Glad he's okay.
Steve,
Take all the time that you need. You've earned it. I would've taken at least the next year off after chronicling Mitt's Mendacity for 41 straight weeks (and 917 lies). Thanks for sharing your special gift and all that you do for us.
Awesome!
The tent-atop-the-car in the photo intrigues me. Did these folks sleep balanced on the roof of their car?
Or is the tent for their dog, Seamusaurus?
LOL I loved that you posted an irrelevant picture - at least as far as Benen is concerned.
It sounds like he's another Anderson Cooper, who cannot take a vacation.
Steve spends his time covering the nation,
Chronicling every new news sensation,
But, I just wonder, then,
Is it coincidence, when
Both Rachel and Steve take vacation?...
A slow news day
Sent them both away!
I used to work with Steve here in D.C. My guess is that his wife had to shoot him with a tranquilizer dart and then hire men to drag him out of the house. He woke up at the vacation spot and is probably looking for his laptop right now.
I feel guilty that maybe it was my incessant page refreshing that prevents Steve from taking a break. Glad to know he's ok.
I miss Steve, but glad to know he's okay. He's a great guy. I look for his first post around 8 every morning. When it's not there...
I'm glad Steve is taking some time off though I miss the Mini-Reports.
